    How to Film Horse Sports
And Sports Generally. I used to film showjumping regularly and in this video I have complied my 6 top tips for filming interesting engaging footage.
    1. Use a Camcorder - The Action in any sport is fast and furious and you only get one chance to film it. Camcorders have the fastest and most reliable autofocus systems
    2. Choose an interesting angle or perspective. I recommend that you film sports from ground level and close to the finish line that way it is easier to judge distance, height and the competitor is heading towards you when they are finishing
    3. Show the action - You should try to frame the shot so that you can see where the action is and where it is heading in showjumping that is the current fence and the next fence. Framing should include the action but be close enough so that it is interesting and engaging.
    4. As the competitor move don't be afraid to zoom in and out as this track the competitors on the camera makes the action more engaging.
    5. Use an external microphone on the camera as this will give you the best sound.
    6. Tell the Story or Tell Your Story - for a video even a sports video to be interesting it needs context. What is the event how did you get there what does it mean if you win, did you have to qualify to get there. I believe this is one of the reason that there are so few sports events that are televised is because the audience needs a context they need someone to root for and that have to

This is all good and well, but it’s especially important to stabilize your camera or camcorder, whether with a gimbal, tripod, or otherwise. And secondly, zooming is good, but you can’t do short, quick, jittery zooms - it has to be smooth and gradual. Pair that with good stabilization and you’re golden. Everything else falls into place thereafter.
