I think your wingtip lights are backwards. There are some good diagrams as to how they should be placed, but I think that the light needs to be visible from 0-100 degrees (if 0 degrees was straight forward) for the wingtip lights, and you also need a white tail light
12:00 because you attached its non-decoupling node to the node in the service bay. Instead of the node that actually does the decoupling. The arrows on the sides of the decoupler shows which is which. The thicker side of the arrow is the one the decoupler will remain attached to. (And before anyone comments about the arrow having its thin side towards the plane's body, that's just because he moved it into that position, the actual node it's considered to be attached by is still the wrong one.)
Complete brain fart on my end, didn't realize it attached to the back node, good eye! Probably best I brought it back to base though rather than dropping it on some kerbal fisherman's head
@@smooneychad I'd assume you've been asked about this before, as I haven't watched the entire series yet, but have you considered downloading BorisBaboris's excellent mod Atmosphere Autopilot? It's not an "autopilot" exactly, but it is like an upgrade to SAS for aircraft - less wobbly attitude hold, additional features like speed, altitude, and heading hold, and even configurable "stability limits" to limit your angle of attack in different speed regimes to keep your aircraft stable. It's compatible with Ferram Aerospace Research (more realistic lift/drag calculations for planes), so it would be a good pick even if you have installed FAR. I personally use AA instead of SAS for almost all of my planes, and can't recommend it enough. It makes those "less than 10 m/s vertical speed" contracts a breeze!
Man after years of ignoring the game in my steam library you ignited the spark again and i wish i has the time to start designing and doing all these missions again. This is such a fun game!
For those that are curious: Stabilators are a control surface found on some aircraft like the Piper Cherokee which combine the pupose of the elevator and horizontal stabilizer. This means instead of just the control surface moving, the entire wing pivots up and down with an added control tab for the trim. Hope this helps :)
If only I could make one with a trim tab! I suppose custom control surfaces like that would be possible with robotics though I might have to give it a go!
watching this made me want to get back into ksp, and i had a realization. ive been waiting for ksp2 to be in a more playable state, but now with ksp2 pretty much dead, i can forget about it and just go back to ksp1 and enjoy it. ill probably even dive into mods finally.
I just found your channel and I must say I love this concept. Keep up the good work! Also I'd be interested in seeing a full flight later on if that would be possible.
You're better off using the atmospheric engines in a gradual climb until about the altitude that they flame out before you activate the rocket engine, you'll get significantly more efficiency out of the vehicle that way
Everything that launches from kerbin or lands on a body with an atmosphere will be an aircraft of some kind, even more so than the KSP2 aircraft only series, now that I have props and robotics there's a million possibilities!
Hello, I impressed by your pilote skills! And this is an highly moded KSP (no need to add the "1" because there is no 2... or just a discontinued / adandonned) Nice video! Thanks
Thank you! :D The only reason I add the 1 is because I have KSP2 version of the series that's technically still ongoing, just to prevent confusion (sucks I have to specify but oh well lol)
If you want planes to fly much better with stock physics give the wings some base AoA. Fuselage drag is drastically increased when it has any AoA, and contributes most of the drag. Ideally you want to be pointing directly prograde, but with the wings still providing lift. An SSTO with junos and terriers is possible doing that, though I didn't quite manage to get it to the point a mun flyby was possible.
This plane had 1 shift+rotate notch AoA (whatever that translates into degrees) Since my only goal with this was to leave the atmosphere, I just went with the zoom climb. A juno and terrier is something that didn't even cross my mind, that's awesome!
@@smooneychad I don't know what happened to my other reply, but the optimal AoA is probably on Kerbal University too. (That's a series by... either Proxima or Lt_Duckweed, I think.) I think it's 5 degrees (one shift-notch) for supersonic, but my memory isn't worth trusting.
@@eekee6034 I'd be willing to bet I picked that up from one of those vids cause I've been doing the 1 shift-notch on wings for awhile (when I actually remember that is lol)
If you want to do ksp plane only series I would recommend you to download the mouse aim flight mod which allows you to steer your planes with mouse (like in war thunder)
your high takeoff speed isn't completely due to the weight. You need to move your landing gear (the pivot point for a takeoff) closer to the center of mass. Riiiiiight behind the center of mass (almost dead on), it only takes a bit of aerodynamic lift to tip the aircraft up into an attitude where the angle of attack on the wings makes enough lift for takeoff. your 90-100m/s takeoff speeds should be much much much lower! Enjoying the vids :)
FYI the dropping under timewarp problem can be solved by using the autostrut advanced tweakable on a couple parts near the rear (or if they were built back-to-front, near the front). Edit: Oh. I didn't realize they needed to be unlocked. :\ That's rude. Glad to see you knew about them though. :D
just a question, i think your mod selection is fantastic so could you tell me what those mods are or make a video about it (i think a lot of people would appreciate that)!! i loce your vids, keep it up and one you might just blow up!!! (:
There's a link to a .ckan file of the modpack in the description (and some basic instructions on how to use it) and I just added an update modlist there too if you just want to look through what I have! and thanks, more on the way!!! :D
This is not the first time I've heard "stabilator". :) I heard & read it waaay back in the 80s, I'm sure. That first landing was a very good landing for that gear, IMO. I flew the near-ultralight stock electric plane around Kerbin, and even with that featherweight plane, I had trouble with that gear. Definitely no need for drogue chutes at 53m/s; it's under 120mph. Last time I did a 30-minute atmospheric flight, I got half-way around Kerbin in the Ravenspear Mk4 (or maybe 3). It was in a straight line, or at least a great circle, so I imagine it was less fun than this flight. :) It would have made that 1029m/s contract easy though. I learned a lot about flying in Kerbin's upper atmosphere on that flight.
Finally unlocking retractable landing gear... only to immediately switch to a plane with unretractable ones. It's like getting a birthday present as a kid, but holding off on opening it so you can "save it up" for later 😂
I use, EVE Redux (with true volumetrics), Scatterer, TUFX, Planetshine, Waterfall and I believe that's it, there's a list and a ckan file in the description if you need it! :D
Impressive stuff! (especially with that damned cessna landing gear) From what mod could i get that cockpit by the way? My laptop's memory is barely hanging on at this point, but i can strain it a bit more.
What flight stick do you use? I picked up a cheap logitech one at a thrift store for like $8 and now I’m hooked, so I’m looking for some recommendations
Turtle Beach VelocityOne, it's about $100 new and has a ton of buttons and 2 throttles. It's my first flightstick as well and I love it, I heard it was a great start and I'm not disappointed (got a desk clamp mount with it as it can be really unstable just laying on a desk) Like I said though it's my first one as well so that's all I have to go on. Good luck though!! :D
That’s from TURD (great acronym) to get it just get Textures Unlimited on ckan ( or manually) and install the stock+dlc turd configs here: forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/topic/174188-112x-textures-unlimited-recolour-depot/ I’d also highly recommend Lazy Painter as it lets you record the entire craft at once instead of one part at a time
That can happen on installs that may have had mods previously installed before (happened to me on one at least) you could try a completely fresh install folder of ksp and it may work better, just make sure to backup your saves! Let me know if you get it working :)
