The fucking image of jeb doing Mach 12 by burning the engine straight ahead into the atmosphere in a space plane during an eclipse was the most badass thing I've seen in a while, jesus
I made a mk 2 science jet but with its high thrust to weight and oversized wings, it almost vertically takes off, and it can turn retrograde while going Mach 1 and boost back to turn around extremely fast. And I just wanted a science plane 😭
Drifting on the ground usually means the landing gear isn't strong enough. Setting it up right is a bit of a skill, but the real problem is that Kerbal landing gear is just plain weak. But the accidental cobra was really cool and the black planes look awesome! :D RealPlume works with Waterfall for better plumes.
Landing gear are always a source of problems for me in some way, whether I leave them down through an ascent or set them up completely wrong lol Also now that I’m starting to sort of go interplanetary, I’m thinking I might start color coding the missions as I’ve done before in ksp2. And I’ll have to try out adding it in, some plumes have definitely been a bit lackluster!
@@smooneychad I do find I have to make several tries to get landing gear right, complete with noting figures and sometimes checking to see what the autoconfiguration does multiple times because it'll do it differently 1 time out of 3. If it autoconfigures max spring strength, I fit more. I'm slowly building up a feel for it, but at the same time wondering if I'm trying too hard when it's just a game. :) Incidentally, I just this morning learned that the infernal slipperiness of landing gear is due to a Unity change the KSP devs weren't able to find a workaround for. It's slightly better in JNO where the behaviour of wheels is changed a bit when you turn the brake slider up high. I haven't tested much, but I have this one jet with spindly landing gear which seems to work fine, and a many-wheeled APC was good enough, though on a side-slope you have to start moving quick after you release the brakes. :) Color-coding sounds like fun. I was thinking as I watched your newer video that the red and white looked very smart on that plane, but it would get boring if every plane had the same color scheme :)
So nice the mach 12 during an eclipse ! it remains me my 1st return in kerbin, it was during a full eclipse ( not very beautifull because i used no mods back then )
Mate I can believe there aren’t more people watching your channel! It’s bloody amazing and more engaging than other creators with hundreds of thousands of subscribers!
Been anxiously awaiting videos since episode 1 of spaceplanes. Keep making these because theyre genuinely so awesome to watch. I hope you grow your channel and continue to produce such good videos!
To make your landing less sketchy you should put your landing gear on the *side* and slightly put them lower to make sure tail strikes dont happen so when you land the base is bigger. Or if thats not enough you could add 2-gear like what you did with the Mach-12 Carrying-Craft
Thank you! I love stevia sphere’s music and it’s even more awesome that I can actually use an artist I like for my vids (still a bit of white bat audio here and there when I need something extra epic)
put a Pelican thermal turbojet on a KSPIE Antimatter Beam reactor. Using a 3m reactor and thermal turbojet you can get several tens of thousands Kn running methane and intake atmosphere. Get the thermal control in order by switching to HTP as a fuel in flight as the cryogenic liquid cools the antimatter thermal turbojet making it not blow up after a minute of Methalox.
If you want to do stratolaunchs I recommend fmrs so your kerbals don’t die trying to deploy the payload and trajectories so your landing at the ksc can be faster and easier (there’s a really good guide for trajectories from Mike aben)
I feel like everything I do in KSP always circles back to ace combat (there’s a reference in the new aircraft only video, not to mention the laythe wars series on the channel basically being KSP ace combat! lol)
Are you using a modified tech tree kind of like in RP1 in Realism Overhaul? I think that would make it more realistic in terms of progression especially if you're choosing to go Aircraft only. So you'd actually start with aircraft parts instead of like a crewed capsule on solid booster like you would in the stock game.
been watching this aircraft only series since like p1 or 2 in ksp2 and something that has caught my attention is how much you do adhedral planes which is worse for stability than a dihedral (wings pointing up) does it just not matter in ksp or for cool points. another one is you calling diamond wings "delta wings" no. delta wings are just shaped like a straight angle triangle. there are prolly other nit picks that I could point out but just dont remember rn.
He was saying delta wings because the pieces he used to make the diamond wings are called delta wings in game. He was not talking about the wing design but the parts he was using
@@Concavenator_corcovatus "were going to put some delta wings there and double them up, and kind of box in the engines" you can interpret it as how you interpreted it but idk just a genuinely confusing statement
@@user-pk3eo6pq6m those pieces he used are called delta wings, he used the delta wing pieces, but turned them into diamond wings, they are still the delta wing pieces
I really like the look of anhedral, and I typically only use them on high wing designs since the CoM is below the the CoL (vertically speaking) that makes high wings much more roll stable, sometimes too much. Technically anhedral should make roll easier by decreasing the natural roll stability of high wings, no idea how well that works in ksp physics but that’s the idea. The individual parts are are simply named “Delta wing” you can probably see by looking at closely at them in the video, I then doubled them up (attached the delta wing parts back to back to make the diamond) then boxed the wings in with them. A similar confusing thing happened in the first episode because the parts I was using for ailerons were named “elevon”
Both of those I believe are added in by EVE (Environmental Visual Enhancement) though I do have a paid version of it for the puffy clouds (True Volumetrics from blackracks patereon)the regular version still holds up imo!
Can I reccomend the FMRS (continued) mod? It’ll alow you te recover expended stages like the first stage in your craft going for mach 12. It uses custom save points to recover the craft and then go back to your main mission and continue
Mach 12, literal darkstar would your plan with this series be like literal only ssto/planes? or be able to ahve them carry payloads that can be put together to be a rocket (or just a small rocket)?
You think this is alot of airbrakes, i had a craft that completly ran out of fuel with a kerbin orbit periapsis, of 69.9 km and a apoapsis of like 8.5million, it took like 9 hours of air braking with time warp
The progression is different in this game so he has to go for these contracts, remember how long it took him to get to orbit? Ksp2 has much easier progression
I’m done with the contract grind as of the next episode! Been using the mach contracts to get extra science to fill in the gaps, but now visiting other objects is gonna be the only way to progress! (Things are gonna start going MUCH faster after that!)
I have the exact same series/challenge on my channel but in KSP2 so I like for people to be able to casually pick out which is which at a glance. Pretending like the 2nd game doesn’t exist because it’s dead like many others are doing is just kind of silly, I’d rather just clearly state which one I’m playing for those who aren’t familiar, and avoid any confusion. Ksp2 as much of a dumpster fire as it was/is, happened and there’s no changing that now (unfortunately)
I do have a discord! Though it’s more of a general community for all the various vids I do and random related interests, it’s also where I host the craft files and mod pack for these vids as well it’s in the description there :D It’d be really cool to be a part of something like that though! The union of KSPtubers! lol
