  • In this episode of Pullmanomics, professional boxing trainer John Pullman goes over the step back hook. This is also known as the check hook. Floyd Mayweather Jr. popularized this in 2007 when he used it to knock Ricky Hatton down into the corner. This episode will go over different drills and mechanics of this advanced counter punch.
    This episode of Pullmanonics features special guest, actor and filmmaker, Max Martini. Max is best known for his film work in Captain Phillips, Pacific Rim, The Unit, The Purge (TV Series) and Fifty Shades of Grey, just to name a few.

    The video is cool and well explained. But the example that you show on Floyd is a different punch. Is a front check hook, where you move laterally to the left (or the front hand side) instead of back hook like you explained. Props for the video 👌

    I actually do this a lot. as I am often bigger than my sparring partners. This and uppercuts are probably my favs for punishing opponents for wanting the infight.

    I am not saying this is wrong, I think you do a good job of explaining the mechanics, but I throw the hook when I step back instead of step back and then hook. I think it is quicker, but it might sacrifice a little power. I favor speed here as to me this is a timing shot.

    it should be possible to the same hook going forward, right?

    • @PullmansGym
      @PullmansGym  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for your question! Yes you can do it forward however be careful of your position, make sure to shift your body to position and your head will move so you don’t run into any punches
