For someone who wishes they could play finger style acoustic guitar but doesn’t want the headache of 6 strings and the baritone seems like the perfect sweet spot for me to learn a guitar like instrument

I'm a fingerstyle guitarist. I love my guitar, but I will say there can be some advantages to having 4 strings. The top 4 strings are right in the sweet spot for melodies, so it kind of forces you to focus on that. It gives you more room on the fretboard and you can do a lot of open chords and moveable open chord shapes without having to worry about bottom strings getting in the way. In fact that's sort of true about chord shapes in general. I've been having loads of fun with my soprano uke.

4 strings is the sweet spot. I like playing bass and ukulele more than guitars.

For beginners like me, being able to put a capo on the 5th fret allows you to play with your friends who are playing GCEA-tuned instruments without have to pull out the circle of fifths and tranpose their tuning to baritone tuning. It also means you can carry one instrument, instead of two, when you play with other people.

      I have a collection too.
I don't have a baritone but all of mine have a special place. My mother bought me a John grey banjolele about 40 years ago but she never heard me play it as it is being refurbished. Last year I was told my mother had a week to live so I was given end of life visitations because of covid. To cut a long story short I was allowed to play my ukulele for her in the hospital........ She went on to live another seven months !!!!
Now all of my seven ukes have a special place in my heart and for a while after her death I couldn't play..... I,m actually tearful now thinking about it but I realise that she would want me to carry on playing so I will.

@@arpitkatare9719 you can find a lot of tutorials on TH-cam for all types of ukulele,s but the best way to learn is at a ukulele club but unfortunately the pandemic has shut down a lot of clubs.
The ukulele is a very easy instrument to play and you can down load loads of music on line. Practicing is the most important thing to do but a lot of chords are really easy. Try to find music that is familiar to you as it is easier to learn to play songs that you know and like. You can actually play all sorts of music on the ukulele even classical. Just browse on TH-cam for " ukulele players" and there are some very impressive players out there. Good luck and enjoy

I started learning ukulele when I was 62 years old. I have at least one of each size. My favorite is the baritone uke -- the tone is actually better than most of my other guitars, but the extra space on the fingerboard makes it much easier to play - more fun for me. For this tired old brain, it was great not having to worry about the bottom two strings! Hey, if I need those low notes, I will play my BASS ukulele.

I can accompany myself whilst learning vocal parts when away from home, also sit in on Irish pub sessions, or any opportunity to jam. So much easier than lugging a guitar around, and loads of fun. I've since bought a KAM (copy of the Kala U-bass) solid bodied electric bass uke. I sold my MIJ Fender Jazz bass, as it was not getting any use now I have the U-bass.

So I came across this video 5 days ago, and btw, Marco, you are my favorite Ukulele player here on TH-cam and I am proud to be one of your Patreon members. I am in awe of your skill and love your classical style background and expression. After watching this video I immediately placed an order for the Kala KA-ZCT-B which was just delivered to me today and I am really enjoying it. I have only had Enya Uke's up to this point. A Tenor Nova Go Pro, a Tenor EUT-MAD EQ, and a concert EUC-MAD-XB Bernadette Signature. This is my first Kala and it is just magnificent. I love the deep tone and sound as it is the best of both worlds between a Uke and a guitar. I own a Taylor GS-mini in Mahogany which was my first stringed instrument, but it's 6 strings are just a little too complex for me as a beginner musician and that is why I switched over from guitar to Ukulele. Just like in the children's story of Goldilocks and the three bears, getting my hands on this Baritone Ukulele after playing on a concert and tenor size, makes playing a stringed instrument "just right" for me. Because of it's size and sound, I feel like I am playing a 3/4 sized acoustic guitar without any of the complications. Thank you so much for this video, Marco, it was just what I needed.

tunning a baritone uke as a tenor (with the correct strings) can be a great way to have more finger space and a richer sound. I have a basically a 5 sting baritone uke tuned as a tenor with both a high and low G in reentrant tuning and it sounds so rich and full. If you want that signature uke sound then get a tenor or soprano but if you want a full rich sound with lost of fret board space, a Baritone with gGcea might be some you would love.

I L♥️VE this Baritone! I wanted it so bad. Just too Rich for my purse. However, I am Madly In Love with it's cousin, the Kala KA-B.
The sound is so rich and full. The action is smooth.
    It's a hybrid/crossbreed for sure.
I have a soprano, 2 concerts, and a tenor that I've been playing for a while. My 'first born' concert will always be my favorite. We have a history together.
I'm on Day 4 with my new KALA KA-B. It's taking a little adjustment to the chord difference. I'm starting with simple songs I know well. The transition is easier than expected.
I had to depend upon reviews, videos and experience on making my purchase without touching and feeling!
Thanks Marco for this review! I love the one I have now and truly recommend it.
Things also change every day!....I may have the opportunity to add another to my happy family of Ukuleles!🦋

Have you compared the KA-B to a Luna Vintage Mahogany baritone by any chance? I'm trying to decide between the two. I have a Luna soprano and I love it, so I'm leaning towards the Luna baritone, but I've heard good things about the Kala.

Nice comparison! I just bought a tenor because I wanted a deeper sound and bigger fret board. Wanted a more guitar sound out of my uke. Looks like I may have to buy a baritone next! Love your videos!!!

The ukulele I play almost daily is a baritone. I have it tuned with a high D string that gives it a more traditional ukulele sound, though it is still 2 1/2 steps lower. This allows me to play clawhammer style ukulele. A style borrowed from banjo playing.

i have my baritone tuned with a low D string and i play it with capo on 3rd fret for Bb. this suits my voice for most songs.

Thanks for the info, dude. Been thinking about picking one up for the past few years. Love that the fingers are the same. Gonna' be a little hard transcribing the music I usually play to fit the new chords, though, as I get easily confused with it at times. =)

Hearing this instrument in a recording, I imagine it could easily be confused with a nylon string guitar, with a capo high up on the neck. Although the distinctive ukulele tone character is still present.

Marco! Thanks for your videos. Btw, Aquila makes baritone strings that can be tuned up to gcea tuning. I put these strings on my baritone and tune them a tone lower than standard gcea tuning to F, Bb, D, G, which gives me tuning of a renaissance lute or a guitar in standard tuning with a capo on the third fret. This sounds fantastic on my Kala baritone. Try this tuning, I think you’ll like it.

interesting! as someone who has only played concert uke and no guitar experience, I wonder if that would be a nice transition to enjoying the size and space of a baritone without relearning all of the chords.

hi marco. I went to a baritone because of the width of the neck made it much more easy to play because of my short fingers. I also like more mellow sound over tenor. would be great to get some baritone ideas of such a professional. not much out there for a baritone.
    You are amazingly dedicated.

I love my 3 baris. I used to struggle playing guitar, started playing soprano uke but never liked the sound. I finally found a bari and when it became clear this was just a 4 string guitar and I would no longer have to transpose to play along with others, I was sold. I've upgraded my instrument every few years, going from a vintage Kent from the 60s, to a low end but very nice Caramel EA model, to the 8 string Kala, which is by far my favourite.

I have both soprano and baritone ukulele but I much prefer the deep sound you get from the baritone. I did play guitar though so I think that's where that comes from. Took me a while to get the chord changes but it's definitely for me.

I have a concert and a tenor. I am amazed by the difference in sound quality of the baritone when the strings are only a perfect fourth lower, I guess it also is a lot bigger. I really like the sound of this one.

Interested in trying a baritone now. As for chord shapes I’d probably approach it as a guitarist and use guitar chord shapes due to the tuning being the same as the top 4 strings on a guitar.

Love the baritone as I love all the different sizes. Of course there are a couple of options I think you missed one option between tenor or baritone... 2 of each for high g low G and high d low d. And then one of each other size! I mix around my ukes I have one of each size. Depends on the mood and the music, my tenor and baritone are linear but I still have space for 2 so I can have areentrant of each too I think!
