  • Do own a Panasonic S5iix? A Canon C70? A Sony FX30? A Fujifilm XH2S? Are you an influencer? A content creator? What's your channel about, anyway? Why do you even have a channel? What's your goal with the channel? What do you think you are contributing? I own a Panasonic S5 and a GH5. I shoot with vintage lenses and anamorphic lenses. I am a solo theater artist. A performing artist. I make movies. Narrative films. I am an activist. I have been called a disruptive artist. I try to make meaningful art. Is TH-cam the right place for me? I wonder... How about you???

I was thinking + journaling about this exact thing recently. It's the classic dilemma of Art for art's sake vs Art for sale. Once you get into the realm of monetization/commercialization and want it to be consistently lucrative beyond just a few bucks here and there, you have to treat it as a business - and Business has its own culture, rules, norms, lingo, etc. You genuinely want to "add value" to people's lives, but YT (along with every other social media platform) defines that in a less wholesome way because it too is a business with profit as its bottom line. You want to serve the Art, do your best work, and offer something you feel is important to the world, because that's what's in your heart & soul, but unfortunately it may not be possible to "make it big" without fracturing/sacrificing that heart & soul at least a little bit. True to your name, you stand solid in your truth and refuse to break - and I applaud you for that, my friend.

You know me, business is the "B" word. I'll never let anything corrupt my creative work. Clearly, I have sacrificed so much in my life to stay true to my art, to keep that integrity, to do what I want to do, and at this point, I also think it's pretty clear that I'm all the way in. ;) and I think you know that I'm cool with that. And I look forward to doing the best work of my career this coming year. Hold me accountable to that please. ;)

I do love me some bridges. :-) I think there's a metaphor in there. Thanks so much!
