Palpatine is truly one of the biggest d*cks in the Galaxy. This form of torture and humiliation toward his apprentice was pure savage.

Anakin truly was a slave his entire life
If he didn't let himself seduced by Palpatine, he wouldn't become a slave his entire life. He made a poor choice. Obi Wan tried his best to be his master but failed. If only Qui Gon Jin didn't die and he's the one who trained anakin, he would have a different life and might become a jedi master far beyond Master Yoda.

The fact that sidious brought him back to mustafar just to burn him again is the coldest thing I think Sidious has ever done to Vader.

It’s weird seeing such a terrifying figure like Vadar being manipulated, used and abused by someone else
It's quite common also in the real life. I knew how one of the most menacing man (big, tall, muscular with one of the most feared professions, who killed a lot of people in a certain dark time of my country) was for all his adult life tortured by someone close to him and looking innocent, small and fragile. The person knew where to hurt him and learnt how to manipulate him. It's longer story and ended in a tragic way. From my profession I know several such cases, but I can't share any details there. But sometimes the strong people in dominant role in the society with scary look are victims by someone unexpected like kind old senator from Naboo. At least Anakin didn't experience it from Padmé - in this area we humans have achieved a lot of equality between genders.

I for one don't feel bad for a monster trying to murder his wife... and then going on to destroy everything she valued. What's there to feel bad about? That Vader didn't actually love his wife to begin with?

@@BattleshipAgincourt Vader initially fell to the dark side over his feelings of love for Padme and wanting to save her. But he was eventually tempted by the dark side which twisted his emotions. Even after realising what he had done, it's not like he could just easily step away and betray Palpatine given how tight a grip he had on him. As shown in the video.
I don’t. The guy killed children, attempted to murder his best friend, nearly murdered his wife and unborn child, and has spent decades serving a man whilst committing untold amounts of atrocities that further destroyed all his wife cared about. I laughed long and loud when he got choked like he choked his victims. Big difference between a car crash and an asshole getting hit by a bus.

The fact that palpatine can just force choke vader through his force barrier literally shows just how powerful he is.
Reminds me of Qui-Gon's line in TPM: "There's always a bigger fish."
Palpatine is awesome when he isn't frying himself with his own lightning.
He wasn't focused his suit is probably malfunctioning which meant he probably didn't focus fully on defending himself and passive force barriers are almost nonexistent in canon and he was caught off guard. Vader has gotten weak and was conflicted which was noted by palpatin, Vader force chocked and pinned palpatine to a wall in the 2017 comics. The star wars story group noted that a fight between would be toss up. Palpatine>=Vader. V

I like to think the two Death Troopers Palpatine has with him when he drops Vader on Mustafar, are the very same Clone Troopers he had with him when he first found Anakin in Episode 3.

2:38 That is probably one of the best parts of this comic, as Palpatine forces Vader to feel what all of them felt, from Padmé to Captain Needa. Brilliant.
He wasn't doing it to make him feel sympathy or identify with them. He was doing it because he could, just for the pure sadistic pleasure. Vader on the other hand almost never killed for the sake of it, he usually did so to punish failure (which was literally following Palpatine's teachings) achieving an objective in a mission for the Emperor, or to defend himself when attacked.
This was a classic Palpatine move: using a person's strengths against them.

The thing that most impresses me is the utter respect that Palpatine has for Mas Amedda. Someone not force sensitive, not sith, no knowledge of the dark side or anything but yet Palpatine takes him to his confidence and discusses EVERYTHING with him, even about how much DV has failed and how, and would use him to help "discipline" Vader! Amedda remained approx 40 years under Palpatine... first as Vice Chair, and then Grand Vizier, knew Palpatine was a Sith Lord and never angered or failed his master to the point of Palpatine ever wanting to eliminate him. Amedda knew the evil he was capable of, and yet was extremely loyal, and he was the only one who was said to have grieved when Palpatine died.There was almost a sincere friendship between the two. I don't think I've ever hear Palpatine talk harshly to him, even when giving him orders. Their relationship needs to be explored more, I believe.
I always wondered why Vader was so submissive to the Emperor and conflicted in ROTJ given that he was completely ruthless and was scheming to kill Sidious in the TESB.
This comic certainly answered my question and it’s truly tragic.

Personally, I don’t think we needed such an open showing of Palpatine’s cruelty. The power he and the Dark Side hold over Vader was implied to be much more subtle, although equally terrifying.

This is why the Sith will always fail:
They berate and scold their underlings rather than teach and hone their craft.
They embed wrath and hatred in their underlings instead of focus and silent fury (like a predator hunting prey).
And lastly they give into blind vengeance instead of using it as drive to improve yourself.
Yeah kinda sucks too. This is why I prefer Plageuis over palpatine anyday. Plagueis was a bad person, but he was nice to his apprentices and master. Palpatine on the other hand
@@xinzlo6101 Yeah Plagueis wanted to be something more than his predecessors this is why he taught Palpatine almost everything he knew and also why he didn't get angry when Sidious made Maul his apprentice. He also wanted Dooku for his apprentice instead of Palpatine.
I know some people above are saying that he was 'making Vader suffer what he had inflicted on others' but I seriously think they don't understand here. Palpatine was not choking Vader to make him identify with others, he was just doing it for the heck of it. Vader himself rarely killed for pleasure. It was generally to punish failure or what was seen as 'treason', which was literally following Palpatine's teachings.

Had Vader not lost his limbs on Mustafar, by this point Vader would’ve turned Sidious into mush. And that’s the only reason Sidious feels strong enough to do this to Vader.

Its funny because this is vader when he is extremely conflicted due to luke and the light side creeping up back to him. Vaders prime was rebels - ESB era, after that to ROTJ he was conflicted so much that his power got nerfed. Unless we see more from comics where he somehow stops being so conflicted, besides that Vader truly is the strongest.

Vader has had multiple statements from very recent comics that state he is the strongest sith lord. One of them being the game, Star wars jedi: Fallen order. "Few survive an encounter with the most powerful sith in the galaxy."

Others try to counter this with saying that this is Cals POV but that would be incorrect as it comes from the games tactical guides which are directed to the *player* and the player knows that there a two sith, this is Disney cannon as well, which is very recent.

This comes from Disney itself, not only that but Dave Filloni (who directed both star wars the clone wars, star wars rebels, *and* the mandalorian right now as well.
There are also feats where he was able to effortlessly stop an AT-AT (keep in mind they are well far beyond 100 tons) from stepping on him with one hand and he was also in the process of completely crushing it before he was interrupted.
He also killed a city sized monster named the Ender. (city sized, so much bigger than godzilla).
Also in the game he was able to basically hold the ocean with his power in the force when cal destroyed the window, keep in mind they were hundreds upon hundreds of meters underwater and he was able to hold all that pressure (which at those depths its more than enough to dissolve your bones, I know this because I did a research project on the power of the maraiana trench for my school lmao).
Those feats right there don't even compare to his much stronger ones which are literally insane. There are also more statements from sources and vader himself where he calls himself the strongest sith lord.
Don't get me wrong, palpatine is definitely powerful as well, as banes rule of two ensured that each generation of sith was more powerful than the last. Vader wasn't a henchman, he was an apprentice. The rule of two; he couldn't overthrow palpatine becuase to do so, it is said you must know absolutely everything from your master, and Vader knew this, he knew how palpatine worked too as he was the closest to palpatine. He also needed to find an apprentice of his own to carry on the sith legacy (and this didnt happen until he met Luke and was rejected and he was conflicted, nerfing his power significantly). This is factual as we know vaders knowledge of the sith was pretty pale in comparison compared to palpatines. Hence palpatine was chosen to become eternal. Not to mention, Vader died considerably "young," he never reached that potential he was meant to reach.

It’s crazy that this all happens to the “chosen one” who has a 2x higher midichlorian count than the emperor and much higher potential. I think it’s because the prequels show the man Anakin could have been if he hadn’t turned to the dark side. So much lost potential. By losing his limbs and being stuck in the suit, George Lucas said he was now at only 80% of the emperor’s strength, compared to his potential to be 2x as strong.

My favorite part of this issue was the flashbacks Vader had while he was being force choked by Palpatine. Nothing that a tiny bit of karma on the exact same BS he did to other imperials.
He was only spared by the fact that Sidious was trying to get his point across through teaching his apprentice, rather than utterly breaking his neck and remainings of Vader cybernetics as he could’ve don’t it easily.
I’d honestly would have loved that but sadly this would fuck up the continuity of what is already established.

Because a fight between the two would reveal their presence and location to the Jedi. Plagueis pulverizing a few dozen a assassins in a single Force wave was already enough to alert the Jedi to his location earlier in the novel. What do you think is going to happen if he and Sidious engaged in an all-out battle? Again, this is literally mentioned in the novel. It's like people watch a few TH-cam videos about Star Wars and think they know everything.
