  • Seen as it was a dry sunny morning I thought I'd give the Outlaw a last chance saloon on the lane and see if it'll do 50! That's my curiosity satisfied anyway 🙂
    From buying this model I immediately set about wanting to find out what it was capable of on-road. I'd already ran it off-road and it was evident it's a very capable rc. With a few changes here n there it always brings a smile to my face. And in all honesty, for the price of it - it hasn't disappointed me at all.. I was originally going to buy the Axial Yeti XL, absolutely fantastic rc. Until I stumbled across these and thought they're a bargain! Changing the electrics and adding a few FTX Ali upgrade parts and shock oil has totally transformed it. I know I'm having as much fun with this as I would with the Yeti XL - but for a snip of the price..

      Thanks Tony! It performs well. That's deffo the ceiling of the stock tyres, I think they'd tear into many pieces any higher speeds than that. But then again, they're not meant to be going 50mph on tarmac lol they perform extremely well offroad with 2S (around 40mph tops).

    With the addition of some toe in on the front wheels and some stiffer rear shocks that might help if you can add a bit of expo on the steering as well that might help with the twitchyness ?

    • @cramalnig
      @cramalnig  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi thanks for taking a look! Yeah it needs some toe in slightly, I'll be doing that soon when I get chance. I work away at sea so RC fun time is somewhat limited. It turned out it was the Turnigy servo which was playing up. Fitted a TowerPro and it stopped straight away, tried the Turnigy in a different rc and it behaved exactly the same way, twitching. So that was binned.. I saw a video on how to adjust the expo' so will have a meddle with that too.

      Sorry Dylan, I didn't get a notification for your message.. just use eBay to source the bits. Search for: 3660 3800kv brushless motor (it comes with a 5mm shaft), a 23tooth mod1 pinion gear 5mm shaft, Hobbywing WP-SC8 electronic speed controller, TowerPro MG958 servo (I've had to mount this on a slight angle on the chassis due to limited space, so drill another tiny hole), the FTX aluminium 23tooth motor mount (part number FTX8372), a 3S lipo of your choice (make sure the connections for the battery and ESC match, or you'll have to snip and solder a new one!). Hope that helps!

      nathan ormshaw Using a Lipo will be fine in the Outlaw, it’ll certainly perk it up a bit anyway and the battery will last longer than a NIMH would. Mine was the original brushed version, easy to change the electrics though and aim for higher speeds. Thanks for taking a look!

    • @cramalnig
      @cramalnig  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Is it brushed or brushless in it at the moment? I bought the brushed version, ran fit once or twice then changed to a brushless set up. You can pick these motor and ESC up online fairly cheaply, but best to use a Lipo battery then too, which also needs a certain type of balance charger. It's a minefield really of what's available to buy. I have 3 Outlaws, this one in the video (which looks a tad different now), and one set up as a Baja Bug, and the other a Trophy Truck sort of style. The formula I like in them is using a 3660 (size of motor) 3800kv (revs per volt) brushless motor, the 23 tooth pinion and Ali motor mount (outlaw has two choices, 23 or 17), a 120Amp brushless esc, and a more powerful steering servo. So, if you've got the blue brushless Outlaw and wanting more speed, just up the Lipo to a 3S battery (3 cells), or if using a brushed motor (the red Outlaw) then look at changing the electrics inside. Hope that helps!

    • @cramalnig

      Tracy Panavia you’ll need a 5mm pinion, I can’t remember what pitch the gears are now off the top of my head?? I bought a 23t 5mm bore pinion (0.6modular or 48dp??)... yes my Outlaw has gone through many changes over the years, spare wheel went straight away.

      @tracypanavia4634 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cramalnig thanks for the reply! Yeah, done some research and I ordered a 5mm pinion today. Was gonna return the motor for swap with the shop but decided to keep it and ordered a 3650 combo anyway - they are so cheap🤑👍🏼 Yes 0.6 pitch, which if you wanna stay at 17t, are only stocked by a few peeps at 5mm. Still, got one coming. Thanks again.

    How did you find controlling that outlaw at that speed? I put a 3s battery in my stock brushless outlaw and it hit 40mph (was the best i could do in the space in my road )but it was almost uncontrollable because of the rediculess but fun tyres, looks like u done well to keep in on the straight n narrow 👌

    • @cramalnig
      @cramalnig  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi thanks for watching! Yeah it becomes a bit lairy at higher speeds as the soft tyres struggle to cope with the torque from the motor - but offroad it's serious fun! I like the stock tyres anyway and have stuck with them since I've changed the Outlaw's appearance lately - offroad they're a brilliant tyre. The addition of the rear anti role bar seems to have definitely made a positive difference, all 4 wheels on the ground helps prevent it veering off to one side like it did before.

    • @cramalnig
      @cramalnig  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sorry the reply is a tad late! The ali motor mount is a must, ali hubs too, and use the larger pinion (if yours doesn't already have it). I also changed to the ali mounts for the trailing arms (which I've left as stock), otherwise it's pretty much stock. Fair play it's been a brill offroad RC!

    • @cramalnig
      @cramalnig  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Merry Xmas! It's entirely your choice, I bought the brushed version with the intention of installing my own electrics replacing the stock brushed set up. There's a noticeable difference in motor types, and when using a Lipo battery as to the stock NIMH which the brushed version comes with. Though the quicker you go, the more mods it'll need to help stability and control. Mine runs on a 3800kv motor using a 3S Lipo, so that means the motor revs a tad over 42000rpm. Coupled with the larger pinion gear, it transforms the model completely. I'm pretty certain it'll notch over 50mph, but using the stock tyres (which balloon) it becomes too unstable.

    • @dylannorris5322

    • @cramalnig
      @cramalnig  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can run a 2S lipo with the stock motor no problems, quite a few folk have tried 3S and brunt their motors out though, having said that mine didn't burn out on 3S lipo, I soon went brushless ya see changing all electrics in the car. If you go brushless then you'll need a brushless ESC to suit aswell. You can buy combo's (ESC and motor) from shops through eBay.
      My 3S batteries all vary, all hardcase with EC5 or Dean's connectors.

    • @cramalnig
      @cramalnig  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not sure if FTX have changed the ESC that comes with the model, so it might not handle a Lipo battery as appose to a NIMH.

    • @cramalnig
      @cramalnig  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is worth buying if I'm honest, one thing I will say which relates to any RC car, and that's take care when landing after a jump. Ideally you need to match wheel speed to the speed the car is travelling at so as to not inflict a shock on the drivetrain, or the gearing and diffs will suffer.
      Stick with using a 2S lipo aswell when using the stock motor. The stock motor has internal brushes which you can't see (or maintain really). You can still get yourself a brushless combo, say around a 3800kv motor and use the same 2S Lipo battery. It only goes as fast as what you tell it. Good luck and enjoy!

      Hi Tony, thanks for taking a look! I use a multitude of makes, at the time of the video I think the model was running a Floureon 3S 5200mah. They're soft packs though, just after this I replaced them all with hardcase Zippy batteries. The motor is a GoolRC 3660 3800kv motor, I'm running a few of these in various cars and they're great.

      Craggle RC ...Thanks mate I'll get some Zippos will it be ok for a 60amp esc?

    • @cramalnig
      @cramalnig  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As a personal preference I don't like putting a 3S lipo through a 60A esc, it's fine in the likes of a rock crawler, but in the larger heavier and faster RC's which need more demand - like the Outlaw - it would thermal overload and cut out for a while. I used to race a Hooligan in a rally class at my club which had at the time a 60a esc, I tried a 3S lipo in one race and even though it is a light n fast car, it didn't last long. So from that moment on I chose to up the amps and buy 120A esc's. That way I can still run 2S, and safely run 3S with no worries, perhaps go to 4S if so desired.

      Mine was originally brushed, only a few weeks later the 3800kv went into it and a 120a esc - totally changed the car. That's when I had to eliminate the torque twist it developed straight away, so made a rear anti role bar.

      Yeah the torque twist is an issue, even on the standard battery. Definitely need to treat it with respect with the 3s fitted . Going to look at making/fitting some kind of anti-roll bar later .
