Fyi, I bleached my hair lightly, only 3 minutes of bleaching, every 6 weeks for 20 years, then one time half my hair immediately fell out, permanently, on top of my head. It was gone when I got out of the shower. I didn't have any scalp reaction, so I was puzzled how this could happen. Just last week, though, I found out that bleaching can trigger female pattern baldness. That described exactly what happened to me.

I dye my waist-length hair about 10 years. I had worse and better hair during this time but a hairdresser will never do them better than me so I 100% understand what you are doing. I also come from Eastern Europe and I notice similar things. when I started dyeing nobody in my country talked about toners. it wasn't a thing back then😂 I have always been amazed how it is possible that with 2 tubes of colors I can make a better color than a hairdresser who has a dozen at his disposal. I do the same with developer( one strong and one weak) I don't use a bleach but a cream lightening dye.
    Thanks for your videos 🌞😁

I agree! I naturally have level 2 hair and no hair dresser would attempt to go lighter than a level 7 on me because they were scared or they had no idea which technique which best. I have a lot of hair, so usually, they would have 2 people working on my hair at once so that it doesn’t over-process in certain areas. A lot of hairdressers like to give us a hard time when they hear people like to do their hair themselves, but they are used to working on people with fine hair or people with medium brown or lighter hair, so they have no room to talk. Smh

I love the factual detail that you give Ally. So thorough and well researched and referenced. You’re my absolute favourite you tube Beauty content producer.
It probably helps that I am a Natural Blonde also (Medium Golden Blonde - about Level 8j ) from my Irish Dad. I also have a similar skin tone to you. Like the Deepest Neutral Ivory. Any foundation marked “Cool” makes me look grey, and any “warm” makes me look orange of yellow. It MUST be a Neutral undertone
This helps enormously as I can relate to, and apply on myself so many of your hair & make up tutorials.

Your eye for detail makes you so good at coloring your own hair, I'm the same and why I love your channel so much. Also, your regrowth (roots) are very light! It doesn't look that bad when it's grown out a little, so lucky that you don't have to lift your hair too much. I just covered my grey hair today with an 8nn. I saw on youtube than the nn is good for covering grey. I used a 7nn last time and it came out a little too dark. I had to help my Dad with something and I ended up leaving the hair dye on too long and I think that's why it was a little brassy, it lifted my natural color as I am not fully grey. The things we women do for beauty 😂.

You are so thorough and give some amazing tips. I have noticed for ME that doing a shadow root after my bleach out (level 2) allows me to go about three months without noticeable roots. My hair has been so much healthier doing this since I do not have to bleach every month. The balayage does mess up re-bleaching the roots, though, since the line of demarcation becomes blurred and not so obvious. Just have to be extra careful. Thank you Aly!

Your hair looks absolutely stunning- just gorgeous. I’ve been bleaching/toning my hair myself for a few years now too, because the salons could never get rid of the yellow. I use the same exact Schwartzkopf developer and powder for bleaching, and I get fabulous results. Schwartzkopf’s toner in “Ice” is fantastic, and if I can’t find it, I go with the trusty Wells Color-Charm in T-18.

My skin is pale, but my hair is dark. I used to think there's no way i look great with blond hair. But as i dyed my hair pink, yellow and other bright colours, i had to bleach it totally. One day my dye was washed off completely by the salty water from the sea, and i saw a nice baby blond, surprisingly it suits me fine! I wanted to leave it as it is, but as i planned to make a hidden rainbow, i decided to tone my blond. It's in order to make it more resistant for getting dirty with all the rainbow colours 😅

@Sylvie wrong. I'm naturally brown, and I've been blonding my hair for years. People usually think I'm a natural blonde who maybe lightened a bit, my skin is fair, eyes blue. If I've ever dyed it brown again, most people say it doesnt suit me, and I should stay lighter. So for some people like me, it almost looks like we should have been blonde all along

Yeah it's definitely tricky, and a lot about contrast. My hair and brows are the reason I have dynamic contrast, so to maintain my color palette, I can bleach to a platinum blonde or remain natural, a cool toned (almost black) dark brown. Other colors would look good, too, as long as I kept a rosy or peachy but not golden undertone, but I'd either have to keep my roots dark and keep some depth throughout my hair or change my color palette to suit the hair color. It's easier to just stay natural for me lol

I got this 3 way mirror called self cut system. It was exactly what I needed as a professional hair dresser to do my hair unfortunately the mirror quality is sort of weird so it makes it kind of hard but it still allowed me to do the back of my hair without winging it. I love shwartzkopft I almost always use 7vol with Olaplex The power of bleach is in the powder ALWAYS not the developer as much and Shwartzkopft is the strongest on the market. Make sure you’re using Olaplex or Brazilian bond builder

I like the ion cream bleach more than the blondeme, and ion has a demi level 7 chrome color that works like a violet booster that you can mix with the other demi colors.

I love bleached blonde hair. I have naturally medium brown hair and I dye it darkest brown. However I would love to go platinum. How will I know if blonde will go with my skin tone? I don't want to look washed out.

I have naturally very light ash blonde hair I used to bleached it to make it more white. But I am gonna stop and let the hairsalon make it copper again because that is when I feel most confident it actually suits my skin more. The really light blonde or the bleached blonde makes it overall look very pale there is no contrast nothing pops out. It is very boring. But you have sunkissed skin colour so you can have it. I personally think blonde looks more beautiful on a sunkissed, blushed or tanned skin than freaking pale like me.

Thank you for sharing this with us. I had such a hard time coloring my hair after moving to the United States, because I could not find my Tone Vitality's toner here. So, I ended up purchasing it from Romania and have it send here. But recently I ran out of it and I had to color my hair and used l'oreal toner. It has darkened my hair from 10 to 8. Such a bummer. Today I went to Sally Beauty and bought the Ion hair color remover and it did remove the L'oreal toner and now I'm left to tone my hair once again. I am happy it did not damage my hair ( it's a powder in a purple envelope that you mix it with water). I will take your advice and try this Toner from Ion. I hope it will turn out okay. My hair color is similar to yours. I will mix it with my 6 vol (1.9%) activator from Vitality's. I've always used this activator with my toner.

If your photo has your hair colormine is that color too..a warm golden blonde. When I was in my 20s and wanted platinum blonde like Aly I had to double process my hair because there was so much red in it. It changes the texrure rounghens up the cuticle covering and damages the hair. Then I had to use various products to try to smooth the cuticle down. Styles werre set into the hair back them so I use hot rollers...this further damaged thenhair so that I could not grow my hair any longer than shoulder top.It is very hard to get the red out of hair and if you have alot of red even if light like yours and mine it is quite an ordesl to get it platinum whitr. I am hoping my hair turns white with age as I do find that a striking color.

    • @papriclara

I have black hair and I bleached two front pieces of my hair white. It really depends on how much your hair can take bleach, I had to bleach it 4x to get to white and it worked well but some people might get chemical cuts or fall outs.
I would recommend you go to a hairstylist so they can check the quality of your hair, but if you're thinking of doing it at home like I did, its better you try doing a small segment to see how you hair reacts.
If you don't have any type of chemical procedures like hair relaxing you have greater chances of your hair not having a chemical cut and you won't have to chop your hair later.

I rewatched this bc I forgot what it was about (and I came from your hair color trends video) but I wanted to ask you if you ever tried the cream bleach? Or anything else in your DIY bleaching/toning?
Your hair is so incredibly shiny!! Do you use an oil or serum or is that the ION Demi-Permanent color? Just wow!! I’ve never used ION bc I’ve heard it’s got metals (or something like really bad for the hair) in it, but this is an awesome outcome of shine that I think I might try it l!
I’ve used Redken Shades EQ (usually all 3 types: gloss, creams, and the cover+ for my rootage area!) and I’ve not been able to see such shine from many at home or salon only products!!
Anyways, If you change your routine will you do another diy hair video? 😁I love how you’re so informative and helpful and that you also talk color theory!! Many at home DIYS would go so different if the “OMG! My hair fell out from at home bleaching” or the “I turned my hair purple from at home toner” brave souls that trial and error their hair without these basics. So bravo you! And tyfs!
    ~Alli 😁

    • @tessltaekook8501
      @tessltaekook8501 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Yeah, it's slowly killing the roots permanently (or emediately in some cases) making you go bald or with very thin and fragile hair. Not worth it. Plus with bleached hair it's so fragile that you can barely touch it for it to break, and if you have a boyfriend it's a disaster. They love getting their hands in your hair and can be pretty ruff sometimes. It's no fun finding like half of your hair lost every time you have fun with your guy... Not worth it. I stopped using chemicals on my head altogether when I was 22 and now at 51 it's curly (naturally) and super healthy. I've never had this good hair before and I get compliments every day. That didn't happen before. So to me natural is best...

I’ve been doing a balayage myself up until now but it’s just way too time consuming and it’s easy to get stains so would love to turn it it to 1 color. Suggestions?
