  • Snap On makes a nice handful of interchangeable shafts for their ratcheting screwdrivers. The shafts allow variation of length and complete interchangeability between bit drivers and 1/4 inch sockets. A variety of shafts are must-haves for anyone with compatible ratchet handles.

I’ll be getting myself a snap on ratcheting screwdriver this year for sure!

I like that stubby handle. It looks like a good option for those not wanting to spend the extra $ on the adjustable angle handle. It seems like it offers good ergonomics for wrist comfort.

You can use a normal 1/4 extension upside down as well too extend the 1/4 hex shank

Hey Doc, I really enjoyed this video. I’ve been giving a lot of thought to my best use scenarios for screwdrivers lately. I have landed on a dedicated bit holder with an array of bits being the best way to have it all. I purchased a Wiha 76000 with the CentroFix locking bit chuck. I’m not sure if you’ve tried one yet, but I’d be interested in your point of view if you feel so inclined.
The thing about this bit holder is that it locks, with hardly any play, onto bits- giving you a fixed bladed screwdriver feel. I’ve hard used mine and it’s fantastic
    Enjoying your content!

But what if I wanted to use the 1/4" shanks with a regular 1/4" drive tool, like a ratchet? I remember you showing a 1/4" female square to 1/4" female square adapter. I'm looking for crazy for it right now, but can't find it!

So what is the point of having a square hole for the shaft instead of a hex one like the rest of the industry, other than that you have to use their proprietary accessories?

I love the idea of the interchangeable shank screwdriver. I have the snap on straight handle ratcheting screwdriver with the interchangeable head and it’s lightyears ahead of the hard handle version. Where snap on failed, in my opinion, is not being compatible with 1/4” extensions. Maybe some are, but not my snap on extensions. Wouldn’t that make sense to use your ratchet extensions to make your screwdriver shaft longer? Still a solid screwdriver though!

I haven't tried Snap-on 1/4" extensions but have other brands and they have worked

@@_P0tat07_ that's a bummer I wonder if they changed something as have had mine since like 2003 or 04.... I know Craftsman ones work, but then those aren't new either

Snap On makes all the shafts in the video. I suspect there are others that will fit, but I don''t have any.

I really love my Armstrong one, it's actually gearless but it's hex not square dr, check out cripe distributing website, it's 66-583 and stubby is 66-582, they are really cheap because they are new old stock

@2:40 I’ve never seen “fixed bit” shanks for the Snapon ratcheting screwdriver.
I checked their catalog and couldn’t find it, are they made by another company? Either way would you post a tool number?
    Thanks

      All are Snap On
      Examples:
      #2 Phillips is SGDMRC4-P2
and a slotted one is SGDMRC4-F8

@@lastbesttool I was looking for conversion bit @ 6:59 That there is a great idea! Thank you for the best review. I also did not know that if you screw off the cap on back of screwdriver you will see the shape of hex bit. So the cap itself is a little screwdriver if you put hex adapter in it with a bit it is a mini screwdriver. I Never knew. URL below skip to. 2:20
