Then you're in the right place! In this episode of Throttle Out, Ryan has a 2019 Jeep Wrangler JL Sport in studio to get the royal treatment. He starts with some well-needed coil spacers from Teraflex along with new mono-tube shocks by Falcon to lift the Jeep up 1.5 inches. Then with the newly gained clearance he adds a set of 33" Mickey Thompson MTZP3 tires mounted on Mammoth Type 88 17x9 wheels. After that comes comes armor in the form of bumpers and rock sliders, a Barricade 9,500 lb. winch to keep from getting stuck, and plenty of off-road lights from Raxiom. You mentioned that the rock sliders are lower and farther out. Did you have to modify the rock slider install to have the Rubi Rails and rock sliders together? I'm trying to decide on which sliders I want, but I'd like to have some pinch weld protection too (and the cleaner look.)
I have 33 firestone destination mt2's on my willys sport - I LOVE the look how these stick out past the fenders - is that called offset? Is there a way to make my tires do the same? or is that simply just the tire width - Thank you!
Great video! Do you have another video describing the theory behind picking smart combinations of wheel/tires? You touched on it a bit in this video and I thought it was very interesting. Is it always a good rule of thumb to pair an 11" wide tire with a 9" wide wheel? I'm interested in soon getting ~33" falcon wildpeak for my commuter jeep, some mild offroading and I am unsure of the best wheel sizes for that
Thanks for watching, Erick! We currently do not have a video on that topic, but it definitely wouldn't be a bad one to make. With tires that have a larger sidewall, matching wheel width to tire width isn't something you have to worry about too much. You can find people that run 12" wide tires on their stock 7.5" wide wheels without any issues because of how tall the sidewalls are. For 33" tires you'll most likely want to stick with 7.5"-9" wide wheels. -Zach
Will the stock springs hold up well enough with the extra added weight from the steel bumpers and winch? Or would the complete Tera Flex kit with springs be a better option?
If you plan on adding a good bit of extra weight (full width front bumper, winch, rear bumper and tire carrier, gear for wheeling/camping, etc) I would highly recommend looking into a complete kit with springs. They'll be able to handle the weight much better compared to stock springs. That being said if you plan on running a stubby bumper with a winch and minimal cargo like this Jeep, a spacer kit will be just fine. -Zach
Hey there, got the spacer lift done with shocks and it feels really bumpy like the tires have to much air and feels like shocks are stiff. very noticeable from stock feel. what does that mean?
Do you think this lift height is similar to the Willys edition JL since it has the rubicon suspension? Looking to put some 33x12.50r17s on my stock Willys on 17x9 wheels.
On a 2" lift your best bet for tire size is going to be something anywhere between 33" and 35" tall. If your Wrangler is a daily driver, I'd recommend sticking to something closer to a 33". 275/70R18 would be a good choice for a daily driver since they're a bit slimmer for a 33" and won't be as heavy. If you want something wider a 295/65R18 would work nicely as well! -Zach
Do you recommend changing out stock shocks when you add spacer kit, or will stock shocks suffice? cost is not an issue just dont want add something is not needed.
I'd recommend it! New elongated shocks will keep your Jeep riding smoother and performing better. Depending on the height of the spacer lift you can also look at adding an adjustble front track bar and adjustable lower front control arms to get your suspension geometry as close to factory spec as possible. -Zach
Not really! We didn't go crazy with the tire-size on this build. As long as your Jeep has an automatic transmission, 33" tires like these won't require re-gearing. WIth a standard transmission though, you may feel some sluggishness after installing a bigger set of tires like these. BUT - I still don't think it'll be that bad. 😁 -Zach
I'm assuming you meant to type 295/70R17 like what we used in this video? A 33" tire of that size should fit fine, but you'll definitely have some rubbing. I would recommend looking into a small leveling or lift kit like what is shown in this video to assure no rubbing. -Zach
That lift really has my attention. I don’t want to go super big with tires and I don’t want to have to re-gear. With that 33” tire size are you really ok with stock sport 3.45 gear ratio?
Hey Adam! Honestly, it comes down to what sort of transmission you're running in your JL. I've seen guys with the 2.0T engine and automatic transmission roll 35s without regearing and they have little issues. With 33s, I highly doubt you'll feel a difference since that 8-speed has so many gears to pick from to keep you in the power band. If you have a manual transmission you will be good as well, but once you go up to 35s you will *really* be able to feel your Jeep getting sluggish. So long story short, 33s will be just fine regardless. 😁 -Zach
I’m in the market as well I went into the dealer and was able to drop one down all the way to 28,000 thousand bucks it included a AC the three piece hard top and it was automatic I walked away obviously because it didn’t have power windows I was wondering if I walked away from a great deal just because of the power windows 😐

Even if you use this as a two year test case, you’re not going to lose much money if you decide it’s not for you in 2-3 years.

It was only an inch or two higher than stock! This build was put together almost 2 years ago so I don't have specifics, but 33s and a 1.5" lift really had this Jeep sitting nicely. Little higher than stock, probably around the height of a stock Rubicon. -Zach

The different color lift kits you're referring to are likely the ones made by Steinjager! As of right now they do not have any sort of full lift kits put together for JL Wranglers. I'm sure they'll put something out for them sooner or later though! -Zach
All that armour and you kept oem coils..... Damn that's rough a high priced shock upgrade with no coil upgrade is like buying your girls bra and panties and never seeing anything. You just don't do it.
Those Falcons are some top notch shocks though, easily some of the highest quality and best performing monotube options that you can buy right now. Teraflex puts together the lift kit we showed here specifically for someone who wants to run a slightly larger tire and maintain a factory or better ride quality. If you plan on keeping your Jeep on the road for most of it's life (like a lot of us Jeep owners do, whether we admit it or not) and don't care too much about getting massive amounts of flex, this is a great choice. -Zach

Like I said it's a huge difference in ride quality in having aftermarket coils steering stabilizers and high end shocks Helps towing body roll and articulation. Wether it goes off-road or not complete the system don't patch it. Otherwise run bigger tires in a 8 ply also.

You can run that size on stock suspension
With a mopar 2” lift on a 2020 wrangler JL Sahara Unlimited and factory rims, what brand / size tire should I purchase for a beefy look?

I am running a 34" tire (285/75/17) on a stock sport and haven't felt a re-gear being necessary.

Riel M you can go as big as 35” without a lift but you have to remove the front splash guards.
