Group Guesses The Price of Fragrances Based Solely On The Smell (Aventus, Voyage & More)

- We are back again with another blind reaction video, but this time we're doing things a little differently. We're asking each guest to tell us if they think the fragrance is affordable or expensive based on the smell. We picked out 9 fragrances for our guests to react to. Each guest was given 2 test strips for each fragrance. The 1st strip is sprayed on 10-30 seconds before, and the 2nd strip was sprayed an hour before each guest sat down to give it a chance to dry down. At the end we'll see how many each guest got right. We hope you enjoy it!

This gonna turn some heads with the Aventus's review 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. Spending thousands of dollars on different batch of the same fragrance to have people tell you it smell cheaper than Nautica Voyage

Creed aventus is definitely not worth the price tag imo, because the longevity of it absolutely sucks. I usually can’t smell it after as short as 30 mins or so.
@@SupermanOG most of Creed’s have garbage longevity. They live of their legacy and not what they’re doing today.

@@SupermanOG That's more anosmia setting in than anything. I can't smell it on myself around 20-30 minutes as well. I don't disagree with the longevity, but I've been told by people that I they can still smell my fragrance about 2 ft away, 2-3 hours after I first sprayed.
Letting them have a final round smelling each one while hearing the price would have been much more fun to see their reactions...
Yeah this channel is really good, but not yet great because they drop the ball in summing up the videos imo... same thing with not tallying up which frags were favorited / disliked most in other videos. Please take this into account Teddy & Courtney!

That's a great idea. Though I'd imagine it's intentional as fragrance preferences are so subjective and there's a risk of leaning toward creating 'tier lists' which are somewhat antithetical to their nature.
The reaction to Nautica Voyage is telling. Most reviews say it punches above it's weight class. Picked it up at a rack store for twenty some dollars. It's a steal. Such a great scent.
How does it perform?
Its good for a non-fraghead w/ a limited selection. For a fraghead with an extensive collection, it's almost a never-reach compared to other blues.

@@RockstarFisheye that’s actually a PERFECT way to describe it. If I had a very limited budget, it’s a go-to. Any situation other than that, it’s collecting dust. It’s not bad, but IMO it’s straight cucumber.

What i love in this videos is:
- that people are being honest in their thoughts and each time people's opinions differ about one frag
- the quality of the video - love the design of presented info about frags, love the lights,the setting, the whole color tone and vibe this video gives
The problem is they don't know what they are talking about

Shes not into old spice... She literally says theres nothing wrong with the fact that it's cheap...
this is great. just comes back to the point that "normal" people, who are not super into fragrances, just don't value those nuances that separate niche and designer. and this just reminds you how often you are just paying for the brand, not necessarily quality ;)
That and it’s subjective. We see the same people every time in these videos. The same scents they hate, another may love and vice versa. Just shows to just wear what you like.
I wish you included their reactions at the end when you tell them how much things cost. You could present it to them in order of cheapest to most expensive with the price on them.

Fragrance really needs the wearer in order to place the smell in context. If a fast food worker sprayed on Aventus it would smell good but would be perceived as axe body spray and if a chic looking guy hopping out of an Aston Martin had on Nautica Voyage it would be perceived as expensive.
Void of a suggestive aid (the wearer) it's just going to be akin to taking a Rorschach test.

@@drewkavi6327 in regards to perceiving if a fragrance is expensive or not, then no, it doesn't matter. At least with the public at large. But I've also seen fragrance TH-camrs drop the ball on if a fragrance is expensive or not while playing blind test games, so.. go figure.
I agree with this 100%. Unless you have an experienced nose you're very unlikely to be able to tell cheap vs expensive.
I am loving this series of reaction videos. The spread of tastes and personalities among the panel makes it all the more engaging. Every nose is unique and content like this does a bang-up job of respecting that diversity while giving folks like me a digestible range of takes. The addition of affordable/expensive in this vid was hilarious. Great job, please keep them coming!
I love that when you take brand and hype out of the equation there isn't really much going for the more expensive fragrances. I imagine the same results would occur in a wine tasting

Aventus bros are gonna be mad lol. I mean, 400 dollars to smell a certain way for a few hours is absurd enough. Bad enough it's only a boxer dropper.

Aventus is the equivalent of a high bench press number, a 10k car stereo, and a customized car. Only other dudes care.

That was one of my favourite videos in a long while. I just love how it turned out random, almost like a toss of a coin, whether your reviewers could tell whether a fragrance was expensive or affordable.

Ian has an amazing nose. he doesn't know how good it is, but you can tell he really gets it. Tressa's gotta vibe, but sometimes her sense of smell is so off. Jared is so opinionated, but his reactions make no sense at times. he's still one of my favorite reviewers. it's wild how sometimes their descriptions don't match the fragrance at all. Erica's on point most of the time. Naxos is an all-time great, but I didn't like it on the tester strips either. tobacco fragrances don't do well on tester strips in general. if you think it smells cheap tho, you're operating in a different version of reality. it's so flawlessly-blended; the raw materials are all the best of the best. I used to wear Blue Jeans in high school--one of my favorite cheap fragrances of all-time.

Evidence that attaching a hefty price tag to a fragrance doesn't necessarily mean that the average person will be able to distinguish what was paid. I enjoy fragrances and have some Amouage, Creeds and Frederic Malles etc.but I enjoy my lesser priced ones to be honest. Thank you very much for your insights and content!

Nautica Voyage is a 'fall of frame' fragrance based on the reactions i get when i wear it, the general public loves it, its amazing how well it does in the compliment department.

I had a friend ask me to smell some fragrances at a Macy's and now I'm hooked. Wish I could get samples of all the notable/mentioned fragrances to compare. Trying to smell them all at once just kills my nose and I can never remember what's what. All I know is that I like YSL Y EDP and Armani Acqua Di Gio EDP is also very nice.
I just got into fragrances and Versace Blue Jeans has become an early favorite. Really love it myself, especially for the price point. Just wish it lasted longer. (If you know something similar but longer lasting let me know!)
Also would be cool to have 3 categories, like cheap, somewhere-in-the-middle, and expensive. Great vid!

This video just proves that brands and prices are all in our heads. The fact that people enjoyed Nautica voyage more than fragrances that are 10× as expensive, and still considered Nautica to be the more expensive fragrance speaks volumes

Everytime I watch these videos, I come away with the same conclusion. Wear what you want regardless of what reviews or the internet or fragcomm have to say. Like what you like.
Context matters what are their $ amounts each of them considered affordable? I’m sure our definition would be vastly different. I think queuing them up with affordable being less than $80 (based on market prices for designer fragrances) and expensive would be anything higher.

*Smell bomb for you because there will always be people who will not like your fragrance. Also there are people who buy fragrances for the confidence boost. Like even though they enjoy a cheaper fragrance they are still more confident wearing a 300$ Creed Aventus. I don't think is wrong or not. Honestly i don't care, i let people buy whatever they like since not all people use fragrances for the same reason as me.

I agree! Not everyone perceives the prices of things the same as others. What could be expensive to one person might be considered affordable to someone else.

Versace Blue Jeans is SO GOOD. I smelled it in a shop and it's so great for it's price. It definitely smells more expensive than it actually is.

@@kdc6884 What does cheapie have to do w anything? You said endurance separates the quality. There are tons of natural high quality fragrances that don't last at all. Even theost expensive fragrances use synthetic chemicals to make up a lot of their ingredients. It's about how they blend it. You almost have to use synthetic ingredients to make a fragrance project, and last.

I smelled a female conditioning shampoo that smelled 1:1 to Nautica but the shampoo had mint. But if I ignore the mint, it actually smells like Nautica
