  • We are back again with another blind reaction video. This time, we picked out 7 popular niche fragrances that our guests can react to. What we do is spray a testing strip with each fragrance without them seeing any sign of the bottle/branding to get an honest initial reaction of each fragrance in this lineup. After they smell every fragrance, they then will go back and smell them all again to decide what is their favorite and least favorite.

    Hey Everyone, we hope you enjoy this one. For those not familiar with the process of how these are constructed, we spray a testing strip with each fragrance without the guest seeing any sign of the bottle/branding to get an honest, initial reaction of each fragrance off the top. After they smell every fragrance, they then will go back and smell them all again following them drying down for some time to decide what is their favorite and least favorite.

    Fragrance enthusiasts on suicide watch after some of those reactions. LOL. I thought some of the notes, like "garbage" and "mint" were interesting for scents that have none of those notes. Also for me, as I'm exposed to more fragrances, I feel like when I go back to one I didn't like, it smells different the next time around. Like my reaction to frederic malle musc ravageur, I thought it smelled like powdery chocolate dust sitting in an ash tray, but I went back to it weeks later, and it seems to have evolved. Great video!

      Well when you're not a fragrance enthusiasts, you think something is just gross, specifically niche, I've actually done a full 360, after getting and wearing niche scents, I've circled back to wearing the most generic clean scents again; people at my job didn't like the "strange" scent, so I use the clean, shower gel scent to never offend anyone. It's probably for the best, as the "challenging scent" probably aren't intended for the common nose.

    • @Dangler83
      @Dangler83 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      @@gilbertoflores7397 I agree with the first sentence of your comment. As for scents to not offend. I use to be cautious with what fragrance I was wearing, but I stopped caring and started to wear whatever I want. I'm not one to designate a scent for a particular environment. I wear what I like based on my mood, and spray enough so i can smell it myself. I'm not one to waste something so others can smell me. lol. I wear them for my pleasure and not others. I could care less about "pulling compliments", or projection or sillage.

    • @bArda26
      @bArda26 2 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      @@kufresh1988 I am nowhere near an expert but it’s a journey and as you smell more fragrances, you realize that designers are usually very flat and don’t have much depth. Whereas some of fragrances capture you with top notes and take you to other places as they dry down. I think the natural oils etc. are more expensive and complex scents may be pricier. Since the majority of people do not wear fragrances or don’t care much, they have to sell it for higher prices to compensate which makes them somehow niche in the market. Probably the best way is to go to fragrance stores and smell them. Getting small samples are great since you can experiment better.

    Hahaha this was interesting… there is a reason that everyone is not a fraghead … many people don’t have sensitive noses and can’t detect the same notes that others can. Just like not everyone appreciates art in the same way- or food, or wine. We are all very different and we are into different things, so it is interesting to see how just a regular person who’s not into fragrance finds these fragrances initially. I guess there is a reason we have mass appealing/ crowd pleasing fragrances that are so popular… These must be the fragrances that most everyone’s noses can pick up and detect as pleasant. And people who are into fragrances are usually more adventurous and open to something different from the crowd. This video was cool to watch.

      They did have a chance to smell them all again after they dried down before ranking. We didn't show them smelling them all again because it would add another 5-10 min to the video. The only thing I can think to do is to have a strip that was sprayed long before also available to them but smelling off skin with this format would not be possible. Either you get a larger sample size this way or it is more focused around one fragrance off skin which probably is not as fun to watch.

    I believe that the more you get interested in fragrances and try different scents, not only designer scents from Sephora etc., you get more and more open to different, new and sometimes almost weird combinations of notes. I enjoy much different fragrances now since I did some research and testing and can't stand some fragrances I liked few years ago because they seem too boring or generic to me.

    It's amazing to see that random people pretty much dislike most of the niche and high quality frags. Niche is just not for the normal nose. And then it also makes perfect sence when they say they like Aventus the most, cuz it is blue and very likable...unlike most of these!

    • @NothingButAPeanut
      @NothingButAPeanut 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I think it's more about their previous experiences with fragrances informing their opinions here. If you did a similar experiment in many other hobbies and asked random people about their opinions they'd give you a weird 3 word description that makes no sense. The more you dive into something the more you're able to appreciate it and it translate into many different areas of life. So basically I don't believe in ''special noses''. It boils down to exposure to quality stuff. Give those guys these bottles for a week and they'll change their mind on some of these.

    Interesting perspective from individuals with enhanced sense of smell. They are giving us perspective without marketed bias. A lot of houses out there today copy eachother in base with slight overtones. And many others use clever marketing via commercials to sell you on the experience via celebs, but really you could get the same scent from whole foods, or burlington coat factory, air freshener, or certain bath soaps. This is what happens when you have the same houses dominating the markets looking for profits, rather than artists wanting to share their works with people.

Hands down! I am 6'2 225lbs and covered in tattoos. I find that BR540 makes me very approachable! Fico di Amalfi is amazing! Light and great for the summer time. Longevity is abysmal at best. 4 hours tops. But very fresh and inviting. These fragrances need to be sprayed on skin. Lots of naturals will play with your own chemistry. I can tell when the test strip was just sprayed and it wasn't left to dry down. These fragrances are not ment to be shoved in your nose and smell off paper. These were designed for sillage, how they are, when smelled in public. When someone walks by and you are at about an arms length all these smell very different than when you put your nose on paper. Scent is very subjective, this was amusing though. 😆

    Mancera fragrances are definitely an...acquired taste. Even the vaunted Cedrat Boise is polarizing. There's a reason why designer fragrances are good: designers got a lot of money riding on them, and they don't want to shit the bed. The unfortunate thing with Red Tobacco is it's challenging for a lot of folks who aren't accustomed to oud or other oriental fragrance notes so it can be off-putting when it's in front of their nose, but Red Tobacco specifically shines in it's sillage after the first hour onward. It's a gorgeous fragrance and a powerhouse performer. Hopefully they give it another chance down the road, but everyone has their own preferences so much respect to their honest opinions

      When I bought insurrection pure 2 I did not know it was a creed aventus clone. I just wanted something for the truck that was cheap so we if somebody stole it, I wouldn't be crying tears. Come to find out it is my most complimented fragrance in mind you I didn't really care about compliments I just wanted to smell half as decent but when I tell you I went to the patio bar by the canal on the Riverwalk and I was having a few pina coladas and I was getting feedback from women unsolicited like several in one spot. I definitely felt like "the man" 😂 and sure enough it came up missing out of my truck I think the neighbor's son stole it but I don't know for sure cuz I didn't have cameras in my parking spot but I will buy another bottle.
      Another note is I don't spread directly on my skin I spray it above me maybe 10 sprays and let it just kind of fall on me.
      I don't want to smell like I sprayed cologne directly on me I want the breeze to catch the smell and kind of carry it to you and have you thinking "wow that smells really good who is that!"

    Love the variety of reactions. That's real life for ya. 🤭 Red Tobacco on paper = ouch. 😄

    So this was an interesting video, and overall pretty well edited and produced. The one rather major problem I have with the way this was done is that because we (the viewers) cannot verify in any way that the #’s and scents actually match, it would be incredibly easy for the companies making these scents to make a “charitable contribution” under the table to the people making these videos in order to insure the video is edited so that their particular scent appears to be the “favorite”, thus acting as a very powerful marketing tool to drive customers to their scent.
    If these video reviews are to be taken seriously, they absolutely must be produced differently so that the viewer is able to easily see there is no bait and switch type activity going on.

    Hysterically funny. When I wear BR540 it just turns heads constant compliments and “what is that that’s amazing.” Same thing when I wear anything from PDM. When the guy said he’d spray BR540 from head to toe, I was like OMG that’s 3 spray at most.

    This channel is sweet. I feel if they had an opening and a 10 minute dry down would help alot. Curious about more Killian and amouage

    I love Herod, but I'm glad someone compared it to a candle. Whenever I smell it, I picture a candle being blown out due to the smoke note it leaves behind.

    Man Red Tobacco was put through the ringer. So many say it’s their most complimented fragrance.

      Red Tobacco is challenging as hell. Whoever says it gets compliments is lying.

      @@upthevilla4281 I get compliment with it on but it is a smell that has a delay. I am used to it. I spray while getting dress lol. Never spray before making grand antrance. But one the smell settles, you end up with a different smell. Btw all depends on your ph balance. Some big brands smell different on me than others. When I wear Aventus, I smell like the classic Azzaro.

    Red Tobacco should be smelled close to dry down, the initial smell is a mess, but wait 1 hour, it turns to something very special.

    I appreciate how they had people with untrained nose reacting to these fragrances, since I get an idea of how the general public would think of the fragrances.

    Very cool. I’m a huge fragrance fan, it was really cool to see just a “laymen” perspective.
