Sustainable viticulture-Why Arton got involved in sustainable viticulture certification in Gascogne?
    Sustainable viticulture-biodiversity concerns us all.
The concept of sustainable development (SD) was born from the very beginning of the 1970s. Let Nature act without forcing it. Reduce human intervention.
Arton 's commitment is to pay attention to our land to make it give the best of itself. The domain favors sustainable practices on our vineyard because a healthy soil gives a good grape. The work unit is located in the center of the estate, less than 2 minutes by tractor from each plot. The grapes arrive at the winery (the place on the ground floor where alcohol is stored, wines in barrels) freshly picked.
    Sustainable viticulture in Gascogne
The soil of Arton is naturally irrigated by underground sources towards which the roots of the vines tend. There is no artificial watering on the domain which pushes the vine to take root more deeply and allows to obtain a pure expression of the terroir.
Arton practices reasoned viticulture to maintain microbial life and preserve our eco-systems. The use of herbicide is excluded. We only deal preventively with the explosion of the disease in the region.
    Sustainable viticulture and biodiversity
The vine is inhabited. We favor the grassing of the soil between the vines to promote biodiversity. This well-maintained carpet helps to slow the growth of plants competing with the vine in the absorption of water and nutrients. We make sure that the air circulates between the vines to avoid their degradation. Finally, Arton minimizes the use of the tractor.
    Music and vine
Arton is the 1st estate in Armagnac to have experienced "music in the vineyards". It is an experimental technology developed by French researchers, the diffusion of proteodies, a series of musical waves emitted to encourage the development of proteins in the plant and thus allow the vine to fight against certain fungal diseases of degeneration of woods (eutypiosis). This is why, from spring to autumn, our vineyard resonates with melodies reminiscent of those of Gregorian chants. The vine thus naturally strengthens.
We are moving towards organic viticulture with the recent acquisition of new plots.
Arton, an enchanted vineyard nestled in the Gers countryside. Owner harvesting the estate, Patrick de Montal cultivates with great care his vines, raises his wines, distills them to elaborate in his cellars a range of Armagnacs with original roundness and velvety. Creator of the Blanche d'Armagnac in 1985 with Fine Blanche®, Patrick de Montal received in 2017 the Prize of Excellence at the Concours Général Agricole in the Eau-de-vie category: this is the first time that the Prize of Excellence is awarded to an Armagnac. Château Arton revives the Haut Armagnac appellation, and delicately exalts the secrets of a land that has been long forgotten. Its singularity imposes Haut Armagnac as a land of innovation.
