I went diving with cowboy and he rescued 5 pregnant women, mapped a new cave on a single breath hold, and went to 10k meters with no decompression stops. Everyone was chanting his name and the mayor gave him the key to the city. And he even made it home in time for dinner and gave his wife a big kiss.
You missed the part where his first and second stage burst into flames. It sounds unbelievable, but he was under attack from an Isis scuba unit, armed with RPGs. He is such a great guy, man.
He told me I couldn't dive with him anymore after we found Atlantis, but it was being used by Russia to train dolphins to Kamikaze bomb the Pentagon. As you can imagine, I freaked out and silted the whole place out. He gave me his tanks and dragged me out on a single breath.
Woody, don't be someone you're not because of some negative comments. You two have a great channel because of who you are. You have the obligation to tell the truth, pros and cons of cave diving, potential dangers, rules to follow, share experiences, give honest opinions. You held back because of some negative feedback from people who do not understand cave diving, nor have comprehension of stupid things he's saying, him including. He is the reason why you have to be honest. Ne ego in cave diving and this guy is trying to look cool and heroic but we who do this or did this know he's talking nonsense. I would love to see your honest reaction to this, Woody. Stay safe and do what you do.
Woody was talking from a different standpoint and it is sad that some people do not take the half a second of thinking to realize they are talking civilly, not arguing but giving thoughts, while one plays devils advocate and one wants to unmask the truth, its like good cop bad cop, it is refreshing to see different standpoints from 2 pros on the matter, thats why I watch.
Speak your mind guys... I didn't enjoy seeing Woody holding back in fear of Donald Cerrone fan boys getting upset... tell it how it is... thanks for your honest opinions Gus 👍👍
I am Super diver and super crawler (certified) myself. Number one rule in Super Diving is TRAINING. There are many open cave divers and open crawlers who attempt Super caves only to perish due to their inflated egos. Many such cases. Another reason we generally don't mix with open cave divers is the strength of our mental fortitude. Open cave divers simply lack the training required for intense high risk and panic situation. For example, in Super cave diving we are taught to abandon our partner to their certain death if they show any signs of distress or have a problem. Abandoning your long time diving buddy to die in a cave requires more mental fortitude than most can imagine. I'm on my 5th buddy so far. Perhaps my buddies DO get confused when I float up and crawl around cave ceilings and cause constant silt outs, but I am certain their untimely deaths are because they normal cave divers and nor Super cave divers, always trying to help me when I'm crawling cave ceilings. They should have known the rules. Please get proper training, folks.
@AddiesNBaddies is this the same guy who was making goofy claims about working out on the Joe Rogan show? I can't remember the specifics but it was some funny line about how he's built different, maybe involved taking creatine or caffeine or something haha.
Woody….. cmon man, you’re holding back. Just be honest and be yourself. That’s why we all love your videos so much !! Gus….. keep being you, you’re great! You have the best laugh!!! Love it!
I was myself. He stated he was wrong and stupid. That’s where I stop criticizing. Once he spreads a message that he was wrong then he deserves to be released from further criticism. Woody
Guys, please be yourselves. People like you because you're honest and you say it like it is. Your experienced you know what you're talking about and people respect that. Everyone has haters. Do not cater to these people that just want to s*** on you. Just be yourselves and be honest and trust the process. We love you guys!!
Im with you Gus. This guy panicked when he had an HOUR of air left, yet he remained calm when his suit filled will freezing water and he had ZERO air? No. Lol. I think Woody just didnt want to hear the potential criticism.
Gus, I'm a fan of Cerrone as a fighter, but you're 100% on point. Woody isnt really hearing the story correctly. Cerrone is claiming he ran out of air while he was grabbing the treasure box (mid-emergency, no less), still 30 feet underwater, before he even STARTED his nonsensical crawl up the shore. Also, that water would have to be VERY salty to not freeze at 30 degrees. Finally, under no circumstances should you dive with Donald Cerrone. I like Dive Talk. I want you guys to be alive for a while.
ehh i actually like the fact that woody played devils advocate here, i think thats what makes dive talk so good some times.. they both can make valid arguments even if they dont agree with the original statement. it also brightens the content and comes off as not so critical and bullish, which is good when its not a situation that anyone else can take bad information from.
It's not so much that Woody isn't hearing the story correctly. Hes playing a bit (as he often does), taking the story at face value, and commenting on the things that he agrees with. Kind of playing an extreme devil's advocate as a response to all the flak they got over the last video about this guy.
Youre probably right and CTE and brain damage isn't funny.... Guarantee if you had brain damage he wouldn't be mocking you. Seems like this comment section is just a bunch of dorks finally getting to make fun of a guy that reminds them of who they were bullied by. But what do I know
Woody just give it to us how it is, we love when you pause and interject because that’s how we gain knowledge on such interesting nuances of diving in all of the vids. Don’t worry about the people saying to stop interrupting so much, THEY CAN FIND ANOTHER CHANNEL! this is dive TALK, not dive WATCH. Love the tandem of you and Gus, keep up the great content.
I 100 percent agree with this comment! If people don't like what you are saying then just don't watch. I love when y'all are honest on the videos, it's teaching us so much great diving information? I don't want y'all to change how you react just because some people are too damn sensitive. Y'all keep being awesome!
I'm new to all this... However, this guy is talking shit. Sounds like he jumped into cold water by himself, had a small leak in his dry suit and took too long searching and ran low on air. The problem with that is that's not a cool story bro...
I dont even think hes spicing it up the way he used the same exact letter line for each of his two cave and wreck diving NDEs i think hes just straight up bsing 😂 and the way hes got the solver in a supplement bottle like he was just happening to bring it with him😂 no he planned ou this dumb lie with some silver he bought
Woody..you need to learn what Humble-Bragging is. He’s saying that he’s fearless and brave and that safety doesn’t factor into his decisions because of these qualities. This is stupidity, arrogance, and lying all mixed together, but really, it’s just a story carefully crafted to make him look like a manly man to the average person that doesn’t know enough o actually question the details.
People saying you guys are elitist are nuts, you're both consistently really humble and really honest, and always put the focus on training, safety, and honesty, not acting like you're somehow 'special' or 'the elite' for just following good safety protocol! I agree with everyone saying don't get gun-shy or hide your truth! You're both great educators and advocators for safety, and that's much more valuable than protecting anyone's feelings!
I appreciate Woody playing Devil's Advocate and giving him the benefit of the doubt, but I'm seeing the way he's talking about how dangerous it is as bragging. I don't see this as him warning people and owning up to his mistakes; this sounds like him just saying how dangerous it is because he wants to seem more badass. Also, I'm afraid if you dive with him, he'll get you both killed. That, or he'll end up on the cave ceiling crawling his way out. Daddy's comin' home.
Yeah, even though he said “I did everything wrong, I made all these mistakes” the way he says it makes it seem like he actually means “look how tough I am, I did all this stupid stuff and I still made it out.” He just wants everyone to react like “wow, you’re so amazing to have made it through that.” I’ve met people who tell stories like that and even though it seems like they’re acknowledging their wrongdoing, they haven’t actually learned anything and are just saying it to get a better reaction from their audience.
Woody When a drysuit floods, yes - you lose the bouyancy from the loss of the air in the dry suit, but the water flooding the dry suit is the same density as the surrounding water, so the WATER does NOT add any weight to the submerged diver. However, it it definitely a factor when exiting the water. So drop your weights and the water is not going to contribute to any added negativity John
He’s not being humble, he’s humble bragging. It’s so obviously veiled that he likes talking about all the stupid things he does to make him seem “extreme” or “badass”. He legitimately thinks being stupid makes him look good.
Diving is extreme. A lot can go wrong as we see in many videos on this channel. Some people just have that ability to exaggerate for the sake of story, and yes, the guy seems to enjoy having that 'bad boy', 'rebel' label when he's one foot close to being 6 feet under.
I’m an absolutely HUGE cowboy fan when it comes to his fighting. I love the guy, with that said I would never want to dive with him lol. This is more unbelievable than the cave diving experience.
Ugh can’t believe the ego of you guys… having actual expertise and sharing it with people… god forbid. You are two of the most respectful people I’ve heard, especially on TH-cam. Keep it up and don’t let the haters get you down they’re just ignorant fanboys
I came across you guys and haven’t been able to stop watching your videos. I dived once in Cozumel it was my first dive. I have to admit I was terrified. Once I was in water a peace came over me I can’t really explain it. It turned out to be an amazing dive. I can admit I may not be attempting it again. Lol. I respect the ocean a lot more now then when I was 25. Love your stories and your chemistry together and love the pink Woody👍🏻. I have learned so much from your knowledge over the stories you react too. I can spend hours watching you guys. Keep up the great work.
Just to preface, I haven’t actually gotten too far into this video yet, but I thought I’d share this. When Cowboy retired last weekend I wanted to see his cave story again, when I stumbled across your channel for the first time. And I’m not going to lie, I too thought you guys were being too critical at FIRST. I didn’t know y’all’s background and experience in cave diving nor do I have experience of my own. But after watching the entire video I started to become fascinated with the idea of cave diving, it was then that I realized what your “ego” that I was perceiving actually was. I didn’t know about the “tough love” mentality that is involved and very necessary for cave diving. You guys didn’t actually have any ego in that video, you called someone out for not being accurate in their story. And even if everything he said in his story was true, COWBOY was the one who was actually making the situation worse, despite how he was pushing the opposite to be true. You guys got a lot of eyes from people, including me, from outside the world of cave diving on that video, hence the criticism. But after binge watching you guys everyday for a little over a week, y’all are amazing and I have the upmost respect for you guys. Love the content!
@AddiesNBaddies what? I wasn’t necessarily critiquing them, just explaining why they most likely got flack from Donald Cerrone fans in the first video, using my own experience. It was nothing to be taken personally, just honest feedback, which you can tell they really do appreciate and listen to. Even though I don’t personally dive, stumbling onto these guys gave me a whole new appreciation & respect for those who choose to.
Woody, when it comes to diving, the problem with Cerrone is that he knows that he is doing the wrong thing but goes on and does it anyway. When there are other people involved that type of person is the last one you want to have your life in their hands.
Your rep matters in these types of communities. I wouldn't take Cerrone backcountry skiing with me, I already know he would put us at risk. Reckless mentality, or dumb posturing.
Totally agree. Also when Cerrone was on Joe Rogan show ,he pretty much said he goes by the unwritten rule that every man is for himself while diving. He only worries about making sure he gets home.
@@iamallegedly3110 that’s not that crazy you’re not supposed to try to save someone that’s drowning because they’ll kill you in a panic theres no point in 2 ppl dying
I agree.. He acts like a willful toddler… “Me do it.” Immature adults insist that they can do whatever they want to do, and get away with it, because they are so entertaining…Stay away from this guy…His stupidity coukd get you killed.
You watch one video of Dive Talk and you become obsessed 🤣 love this show and appreciate you guys, I can hardly swim and have a fear of open water but one day I will scuba dive , thanks for inspiring me and for all the knowledge it's invaluable. Kudos Gus & Woody 🤿
I'm with gus on this 30 degree water, with a full dry suit flood, your first stage exploded, you still went to coordinates, you are now out of air and then you crawled out holding your breath 🤣
I doubt most people could crawl 30 ft across the room on just one breath, let alone up a silty/sandy/lose ground, uphill, after already crawling to these coordinates. Your vo2 demand would be too high. In my opinion.
Woody is too good of a guy. I love his personality he is a very pure guy you can just tell. He looks like a man who is content and deep down satisfied with his life. It shows on his smile at the start of every show
I saw the first video... and was so glad that you all reacted to it and pointed out SAFETY and RESPONSIBILITY in the dive community even in the face of his very deliberate rule breaking. It made me actually become a supporting member after lurking on your page. LOL Seriously, your message is awesome because people can see the important truth lessons that need to contradict ego and misinformation that his videos throw out into cyberspace.
Woody you did a great job giving him the benefit of the doubt….BUT I was not getting the vibe that he was being honest. Gus I agree that his approach to diving may seem too appealing and exciting for inexperienced divers and to be like him and have “extreme “ experiences like him that they might be tempted to take dangerous risks that could be fatal.
Ego is something that can be hard to overcome. Gus, continue to be honest with these reactions and critiques. Some of us that find these stories to be a bit odd need the insight that you and Woody offer. YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST!!
Oh, I know someone like that. He can just suddenly make up, for example, that he has started his own business and that he's in contact with the bank regarding buying a large appartment complex, and that his partner is rich, and that they have invented some new technology they are going to install in all appartments etc. It makes you sad because in the end it's your friend, and your friend is sick and you don't know how to help him. You think about how difficult it must be for him to build steady relationships etc.
My brother………. I can’t stand even talking to him anymore……. Example he’s borrowing our dads 2023 f350 and he’s had it for months and won’t give it back to my dad. Then he tells my dad he bought a brand new f450 Diesel but he didn’t pay his taxes so the government took it. Which he is in trouble for tax evasion. I hope he goes to jail that’s how much I hate him.
"Come dive with cowboy and I'll put you in fear of your life in zero viz." He stole this off Edd Sorrenson. But Edd said it in an attempt to drive a point home that some of his rescues are completely zero visibility. Also Cerrone is about to allegedly die of no air but his concern is in the treasure cache instead of escaping a near death situation.
I'm with Gus. He was clear that he ran out of air as soon as he grabbed the treasure (at 30ft.), THEN he started crawling out. To crawl that far of a distance to the shore, with no air, carrying something, and with such a heavy suit as he claims, just isn't possible. He's definitely exaggerating/embellishing.
Succession of events as Cerrone described it: 1) His second stage (I think he said second stage) exploded and he started rapidly losing air. 2) Before or after this, his drysuit ripped. 3) He started crawling to the surface. 4) Still (probably) at a depth of 30 feet, he stopped crawling and started to dig for the "treasure" (which was probably NOT the $1,000 worth of silver coins he talked about earlier). 5) He discovered he was completely out of air. 6) Holding his breath, he crawled for the surface -- 30 feet up and an unknown distance horizontally. No. Not believable. Just no. I agree with the others who said he was humble-bragging when he talked about how he was stupid and did everything wrong. Woody, I admire you for giving him credit for admitting he had been wrong and stupid, but I don't think he has any intention of doing better in the future. Cerrone's message seems to me to be something like, "I did everything wrong and broke all the rules, and I survived and got out of there with "the thing". Yay me!"
Yeah, but you're not including the fact that he's the biggest baddass in the Universe! I mean listen to him talk. "Bro, I'm like totally a professional diver bro. Like totally." Just the way he articulates his experiences can tell you have professional he is.
He has the heart of a fighter? As a kid I used to try my hardest to stay under water the longest and I was good at it. I just kept telling myself another 8 seconds and I would count… then tell myself you can do another 12, then count and when I start feeling like I’m gonna panic? I tell my self the human can handle atleast 2 minutes haha so I just kept going every 4 seconds or 5 seconds telling myself I can push more and more and the longest I went was 2 minutes which i was surprised hahaha it was hard tho. Lol but I kept telling myself I would be okay and I didn’t panic from lack of oxygen I understood what I was doing..
🌟 I love how at the end he's looking at Woody like, "Who are you?" Woody just has a big heart and I think he feels bad for possibly hurting Donald's feelings on his stories. Just shows Woody is a good guy. Still though.... the dynamic between you two at the end is priceless. 🤣🤣🤣🍻
Is Woody joking? I’m an instructor, albeit way less experienced than he is, but the guy they’re watching is clearly full of crap. I kept expecting Woody to announce he was intentionally playing devils advocate.
The way he is saying “I broke all the rules and I shouldn’t go” but it’s the look and the “but” that comes after makes me believe he doesn’t give a shit about the rules. He thinks he is above them 100%!
Reminds me of this analogy I’m all for free speech, but him saying he hates jews is wrong. Compared to Him saying he hates Jews is wrong, but I’m all for free speech. The but negates and completely removes the beginning statement. When someone does this with the BUT word. I completely ignore the first part and focus on the last part.
@@xxtoptankxx6873 I get your point, but that's not the best example, to be honest. Many things can be seen as morally "wrong" by an individual yet still be protected by free speech. Hating someone isn't illegal. The one doesn't negate the other.
That reminds me of this crazy experience I had, when I got solo diving in a cave, then my first stages both blew up, my inflator hose got disconnected from my wing, and my harness teared up. At the same time my canister got leaked and my masks (both) broke. Thankfuflly I had my pickaxe I use during ice diving, and I started digging a new tunnel following my compass, though my compass was missaligned pointing towards some high voltage cables. I got electrocuted but thankfully by gloves actually protected me. Long story short in a single breath I discovered a very friendly mermaid civilization that were kind enough to lend me a WW2 german Uboat to return back home. Excluding the fight with a giant squid that i had to neutrilize by opening a porthhole and stabing it with my 5'' diving knife, it was a smooth ride. I was extremely stupid to solo dive in a cave and not carefully check my equipment. Do not do it guys. Always dive with your buddies and with the city plans to avoid hitting power cables.
This is precisely how I perceive his stories. Well said! I love Woody, but I genuinely don’t understand how he could perceive this as not having an ego. He’s trying to make himself sound impressive to inflate his ego while simultaneously trying to keep those lesser divers safe by saying it was stupid. All it serves to do is separate himself from other divers bc he’s so reckless and crazy (and in his mind therefore “cool”) so other divers shouldn’t even attempt to be as “cool” as him. Just another thinly veiled attempt to stroke his ego. Some “Legend” he is 🙄
There isn’t a video of watch of you two that I am just not absolutely enthralled in. I listen to you guys on my drive in to work and before bed each night. I have always had a great interest in cave diving, but as of now I’m just an open water diver, you guys have lit a fire in me to pursue cave diving further.
This guys facial expressions when he tells a story just scream pathological liar to me. He probably experienced some minor problems and blew it up to make himself more interesting. I work as a mechanic in oil/gas industry, and I stumble across people like that from time to time. It sounds realistic to begin with, but as the rotation is nearing it's end, their stories tend to become more and more amazing.
Y’all are doing what you should be doing. Educating people. I like Cowboy and am a HUGE MMA fan but he needed to be called out on his BS. It’s dangerous to have his young 14 year old fans who get mad look up to this behavior. The like an dislike ratio proves that 98% of us are on your side.
Wait until you hear about his motorcycle accident. Cowboy was setting the world depth/speed record on his V8 “Boss Hoss” bike at the bottom of the Marianas Trench. His life was saved by the aliens from “The Abyss.” Yes, they are real. They psychically connected him to his wife’s intuition and she reminded him of ‘his boy’s’ cowboy boots. That was all he needed to make it out. I’d like to hear your smart comments after he tells that story! 🏍️
Sorry Woody but Gus was the voice of reason on this one. It sounded to me like Donald was exaggerating everything (and cannot tell a story without exaggerating or lying). Maybe in this story he did actually crawl out but he's lying about when he ran out of air... maybe he was just low on air when he decided to crawl out.
I love woody. You can tell he is truly trying to give everyone a good reaction even tho we all know woody is being to nice hahaha. Gus your awesome i can tell there is zero bs with you. You are stright to the point haha awesome
Hi guys, ran into your channel recently by accident and I’m completely loving it. Haven’t made a single dive ever but you guys got me interested into learning about it and take open water diving training/certification at some point.
Look guys, I do the ice water dipping for the fourth season now and the first season in 1 C water (34 F) I can tell you the pain is pretty substantial after about 15s. After 1 minute you don't feel your feet or hands and it's VERY painful. Longer? Moving numb hands and legs crawling under water your body and mind panicking because that is the default in freezing water (unless you get used to it by regularly ice water hardening) I find pretty unbelievable. I've been there and even 4 C water, 6C water is painful AF. I know nothing about diving. But just the freezing water and him staying calm and crawl.... Oh well, I have my own opinion about that.
This, 100%. I fell into a meltwater pond as a teenager and barely was able to swim back to shore. We were being morons and blocking the water in a massive underpass tunnel, then a buddy would unblock it and we would ride the wave through the tunnel on a saucer sled. At the end of the 1/4 mile ride, there was a rope dangling. I was hauling ass and missed the rope. I skipped like a rock right into the center of the meltwater pond before the sled dumped me off. After 45 seconds of swimming to the shore, I couldn't keep my arms up enough to propel myself through the water. Luckily I had swam close enough in 30 seconds that my feet JUST touched the bottom and my Darwin award was revoked. Or maybe delayed. Time will tell. The near hypothermic hike back to the car wasn't awesome either. That cold water just leeches your life away. And you do it ON PURPOSE!
@@Lesardah :D Yes, we do it on purpose and I would recommend it to anyone :) Just the satisfaction alone that you can overcome the fear and the cold, overcome the great stress your body will get into, the panic you feel. To use your mind to stay in the water and not to run out immediately, to be able to calm yourself down. It's truly addicting and you suddenly feel like a badass especially when there are people walking by watching in awe 😂 What is amazing that the pain will actually go away, I can get into freezing water and it takes some time until my hands are even numb and it doesn't hurt too much. Then I will regain the feeling in my hands and feet pretty quickly. Comparing to the first year the difference is staggering. I mean the water is still cold and you still don't want to get in at first but it's much easier. And the summer comes so early I can go and chill at the lake in my swim suit in 20°C feeling nice and warm and I can swim in the lake when the water hits 18°C quite comfortably. It's amazing, trust me. It's unreal what the body can do
Like Woody I tend to try and give the benefit of the doubt, but “I broke the rules” and “I did the wrong thing” are just hollow words if you don’t take action, and this is very clearly a pattern of behaviour. Unless and until he proves that he actually believes those words he is absolutely untrustworthy and shouldn’t be a spokesperson for diving. Also his timeline of events either mean he’s lying or he is a colossal idiot. I’m no diver but it seems like common sense that if something as serious as a flooded dry suit and a tank malfunction occurs and you are running out of air YOU IMMEDIATELY ABORT THE DIVE. You don’t continue so you can get your ‘treasure’ (leading to having no air to get back to the surface!)
No, it’s a reaction video, people just want people to act a way they think episode should react. These people have experience with this area. They might not be 100% right or correct ALL the time but these are still people
In any discussion worth having you must dare to be wrong and to offend someone. In a reaction video I want to see someone's honest reaction, whether or not they are correct about that which they are reacting to. In my opinion it's perfectly fine to say "He's clearly lying", or similar. That doesn't mean that you're sitting on some evidence that would hold up in court, it's just your reaction. Woody seems like a super nice and super honest guy. I think he had simply decided to try a different approach this time, and be more diplomatic, and see if they perhaps could get the guy on the show.
I revisit your cerrone reacts for the lulz every now and then. Woody's "I wanna give this guy benefit of the doubt" face versus Gus' "are you serious!?" face is just pure gold. 🤣
I don't know about Scuba, but when I was at University in my science class, we had the safety vavle/seal blow on a Hydrogen tank in our room! It was one of the scariest situations in my life and I will never forget the sound - like an extremely loud, whoopie (joke fart) cushion (except terrifying - knowing the tanks' contents)! Our lecturer lept into action, opened a window, turn on the gas suction fans and evacuated every room and lab in the building! A 4ft high/long tank emptied itself in about 20 seconds and I could have been blown sky high that day, but I'm here instead!
I discovered your channel less than a week ago and I'm totally binging on your videos. I have no experience in diving whatsoever, beyond just swimming underwater for as long as I can hold my breath, I didn't even know that cave diving was a different beast than scuba or that there are all these kinds of different diving styles, but I can tell quality content when I see it. Between your honest reactions and the way you've so effortlessly been explaining the various technical aspects of every different style - I call them styles for lack of a better term btw - between offering us tremendous insight and allowing us a glimpse on the methodology and science of diving you haven not only been inspirational but also you've been correcting my - I dare say "our", as a wider audience - distorted image of diving and you've also have been shedding some light on why and how things can go wrong, constantly reminding us of all the safety protocols that are in effect thus enabling divers to functions properly and, within reason, safely. You've been building trust to the diving community with your knowledge and honesty. I remember the watching a BBC documentary - which, I suggest you watch sometime if you happen to come across it and have the time, it's part of the BBC Two series "Natural World" and it's called "Secrets of the Maya Underworld" - about the discovery and exploration of the underwater cave system of Yucatan, in Mexico, when I saw for the first time people diving in underwater caverns and caves and my mind was blown not only by the wonderful scenery but also by the sheer feeling of terror and anxiety about all the things that could go wrong and lead to a horrible death. Now, after having watched a couple dozen of your videos I can still admire the effort and skill of cave divers - maybe even more than before - but fear is slowly turning to respect. This is something very different than what people are used to nowadays - at least what they are constantly bombarded with. Idols and personas with mostly style and little if any substance. Don't be discouraged by trolls or people that can't stand criticism against their idols. They are taking that criticism personally just by association - and that's quite pathetic, if you ask me. Anyway, keep up the good work spreading knowledge, honesty and trust and sorry for the long-@$$ comment. :)
Also, I love it that Gus is struggling to keep a straight face and Woody sometimes goes for a, let's say, less judgemental demeanor. Not in this video specifically, for sometimes people deserve to be roasted, but it generally comes across like that.
Makes me sad that some people who are interested in diving probably got pushed away because they're worried that like donald cerrone, everytime they go diving they have a near death experience
@@fatbroccoli8 sure, or he just overexaggerates the danger in everything that he does to feed into his own daring ego. I personally feel that's much more likely.
@@fatbroccoli8 sure, and they are good stories just cut all the parts when he talks about 'coming home' and they're great. But I'm not sure its worth it when he has a lot of fans and so many people will get put off from something like diving
Hey guys, just wanted to thank you for the awesome videos. Ive done like 15 dives so far and its been an awesome learning experience. Watching and listening to you guys discuss and educate about all things scuba has done nothing but inspire me and make me want to progress farther. Massive thanks👍
As a Super Cave Diver myself, I once again feel compelled to provide explication for the non-divers, and normal cave divers such as yourselves. I know what some of you will be thinking. His claim to have dove alone was for the purpose of precluding contradiction from another party. But nothing could be further from the case. While much is the same between the two endeavors, there's a significant amount of difference between super diving and the more pedestrian diving practiced by the non-elite. First, let me begin by saying that as someone who knows Donald personally, he's the fastest crawler I've sever seen. He loves to crawl, whether in or out of the water, and does it constantly. Floors, ceilings, from the windows to the walls. You name it he's crawled on it. He goes up trees like a bear. On more than one occasion when visiting his home, he would answer the door on all fours, and spend most of my visit rapidly scurrying about quadripedally. So if anyone could crawl from the bottom of a lake to the shore with limited air, it's SCD Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone. It was also fortunate he dove without his wife in this instance. Because had she been present, it would have been her duty to put him down (perform a tactical drowning) once his air supply was compromised, and the world would now be without one of it's most skilled SCDs. Donald also failed to bring an extra cylinder on this dive. Something he does religiously, even keeping one by his tub for baths. But none of that natters now. because Daddy made it home. Donald also likes what most would consider an exceptionally warm climate. The man is human furnace. He drives everywhere with the heater on, takes scalding showers, drinks nigh boiling water, and eats smoking hot meals. It's not uncommon for him to be wearing a parka when visiting in the summer. Hence why he found the water colder than most. An idiosyncracy few if any share. What many would deem a comfortable temperature, Donald would find uncomfortably cold. Honestly, I didn't think you guys (being normie divers) would ever understand. But Gus's comments in your recent video about dry caving has caused me to reconsider. When Gus said, "Shoot you in the head and walk out is the only humane thing (to do)," in response to another caver being injured, he conveyed that he perhaps has the potential to become a SCD after all. The expression on Woody's face, however, did not. Anyway, let us know when you're ready to join the elite, Gus.
I personally am Super diver and super crawler (certified) myself. Number one rule in Super Diving is TRAINING. There are many open cave divers and open crawlers who attempt Super caves only to perish due to their inflated egos. Many such cases.
@@death2theworld Sorry but you're wrong. The number one rule of any activity that involves diving is "only look out for yourself and eff everybody else,
My reaction….the story stinks of ego driven exaggeration and fabrication. Saying it was a stupid mistake is just a reverse psychology technique to make a lie sound more believable. Surely, no one would tell a story that makes them look foolish, right?! But liars don’t care about looking foolish, they care about being the center of attention.
Exactly what I was thinking mate very good observation though I'm a bit to ignorant to have thought it was reverse psychology I wouldn't have thought to articulate that
I feel like Woody is the teacher marking exams who is straining himself to give marks to students at every opportunity, no matter how tiny - like you write your name, that get's a point, etc. Then Gus reminds me more of a teacher that would deduct for every single thing you left out - like hmm, no date on this, minus a point for that (I mean no offence, just find you guys funny XD)
I'm so excited my Dive Talk shirt arrived today! I was on vacation and I got an email saying it was delivered while I was gone but when I got home it was missing. I thought somebody stole it (which wouldn't be the worst thing, I just bought it to support you guys, the shirt is just a bonus); anyways it showed up today, looks great! I have a ritual where I watch these so I will have to catch up from last week on Monday but I was just excited to get the shirt. Thanks guys!
no air and 30 degree water and yet this guy continued and crawled out? that's totally unbelievable. some of these things could have happened but not the way he described
Just let Gus handle these Cowboy reactions if Woody is too afraid to hurt the Cerrone fangirls feelings. Being high on weed doesn't make you a complete bs artist.
I googled how quickly you get hypothermia in thirty degrees water and this is what I found, “A person who is immersed in near-freezing water at temperatures of 32.5°F/0.3°C will have symptoms of mild hypothermia in under 2 minutes and will be unconscious in less than 15 minutes, with an expected survival time of 15 to 45 minutes.” If his suite flooded with below freezing water how did he not pass out after fifteen minutes? He also definitely would have had hypothermia even if he managed to get to the shore in under fifteen minutes, so he would have needed to go to the hospital.
So you know when he’s talking about finding clues and going to coordinates he’s talking about geo cacheing . People hide things in specific hard to get places and put up the coordinates online and then others go and try and find them . He kind of makes it sound like he’s truly treasure hunting and randomly finding this stuff but he’s not. It’s a thing people do and hide stuff on purpose for people to go find lol
I love Woody's optimism... "It's gonna happen."... Meanwhile Gus: "It's never going to happen, but if it happens I'll go so you'll stop talking about it right now." lol
Gus and Woody, I've been sick with the flu this week and discovered your channel, and I can't stop watching! If I hadn't developed serious health issues a few years ago, I would love so much to learn to dive. I finished swimming lessons up to lifeguard level by age 7, and I finally was allowed to take those classes at 14. I also did competitive swimming and spent summer vacation at the beach snorkeling and sailing. For my 25th birthday, I went with my mom, sister, and a friend on the excursion of a lifetime to swim amongst beluga whales. I'm so sad that I can probably never dive, but I'm really enjoying your channel and living vicariously through your stories and videos. Best, Brandi 🐳
Love watching you two discuss ANYTHING haha. Doesnt even matter what you're commenting on since you both are simply funny, knowledgable and sincere. Recognize things from Gus' reactions in my own reactions and wish sometimes to be more considerate like Woody 👽
As far as people criticizing Gus and Woody for their opinions and critique of Cerrone or ANYONE else...I feel I am uniquely qualified to address this. You have no basis in saying the guys feel like they are "elite" or better than anyone else. We met Gus and Woody (and Josh) in a non-formal setting. They were just setting up their gear and were EXTREMELY humble and asking questions of each other. The proof of their humility was in the answers they would give. There is not an ounce of arrogance in either of them as divers. Being someone who has been "Reacted To" and felt the wrath as well as the grace of this community, I would argue to the death with anyone who says these guys feel like they are better than anyone. If you feel that way, you obviously are not listening to their videos.
Thank you for speaking up. That's exactly as I would have thought that they would have been. You can generally tell when someone is full of b.s. and Gus and Woody don't seem like those kinda people.
@@chriscoker7794 thank you Chris. The really are the most genuine of people. They are always pointing out the things they don’t know or the things they feel they need to practice. And I have to add that I don’t know many divers who would have gone out of their way to answer OUR questions and even stop preparing for their dive to let my son try on Gus’ rebreather. It was a very surreal moment for my son. They actually spent time with us. And to me, everyone’s time is valuable. It’s THE MOST valuable thing you can give someone. I can’t thank Gus and Woody enough!
This is just my opinion, but I don't think the weight of water in your dry suit would add much negative buoyancy overall because the extra water also increases your volume which displaces water and hence adds an equal amount of positive buoyancy. A drysuit is essentially a fancy plastic bag, and plastic bags filed with sea water don't plummet to the sea floor. You sink because you lost the air the suit was holding, not because the water is weighing you down. However the increased mass, inertia and drag of a flooded suit makes you very slow.
Woody, come on.... Omg. Im shaking my head, telling myself woody is just doing a bit, playing a role... Gus, keep up the great content, stellar reaction, as always. Woody, you are a great diving instructor, I always enjoy your tips on diving safely.
I'm a UK diver so dry suits are pretty much mandatory for me, I don't believe a word that is coming out of cowboys mouth, but I would like to challenge woody a bit on what he said on the suit flood. firstly I agree with Gus that he's not diving in -1 C water but lets assume its 5 degrees. I've had a full suit flood in 5 degree water in December in North Wales with deco obligation (I'm trimix qualified to 60m this was a planned deco dive to 40m and my wrist seal went at the bottom) , it was very cold but my underlayers kept me warm enough as I always wear thermal underlayers and my under suit will keep some warmth when wet. Not as good as neoprene but enough to keep hypothermia away. My wing provided more than enough lift for my flooded suit, now I'm certainly no expert but looking at the physics I would assume that a flooded drysuit would be neutrally buoyant as water is neutrally buoyant. You wouldn't feel the weight until you got out of the water and if you use your BC or wing as your primary lift you wouldn't sink at all. You can test this by the way, In fresh water 1 litre of water weighs 1kg so get yourself a 2 litre bottle of water and a 2kg lead weight put them on the ground or a platform whatever whilst on a dive and be neutrally buoyant. pick up the lead weight and do not add any air to your bc and you will sink, now do the same with the water bottle and you will remain stationary.
This is TH-cam no matter what you do someone's going to have an issue with it. This guy is obviously full of crap! I am kind of disappointed that Woody held back on what was really going on because he was afraid of hurting somebody else's feelings on TH-cam. Just be yourself and tell it as it is and who cares what anybody else thinks.
Oh boy... I'm going to have to eat crow. I was one of those people, but I didn't go that far. I'm a Gus and Woody fan now for sure. Suck it up cowboy, you rode that horse.
"Out of air" doesn't always mean tank completely empty. If you looked at your gauge and saw 5% of your air left, you'd maybe tell the story as "I was out of air", but not mean *literally* none left.
@ 11:42 - Sea water is roughly 8.5-lb/gal, +/- 0.2-lbs at 70°f depending on who you ask. Weight increases slightly as temperature drops, weight decreases slightly as temperature rises.
He forgot to mention his goggles leaking, lost a fin then the other fin and to top it all off his pants fell down. No worries I just threw a couple extra air tanks in the truck, that shut her up haha. Defo BS! great vid as always guys.
To be fair, Cerrone wasn't clear about whether the extra air tank in the truck was for this dive or the cave-diving one, or maybe another dive altogether.
I don’t want to give any hate to either of you because I love this channel! In fact, your original video about cowboys story from Rogan is what made me fall in love with this channel. I just hope the public’s opinions never sways how you guys react to any videos because authenticity is what drew your subscribers in in the first place 😊
Oh, the egos! Lol The elite team haha I'm so glad I found you guys. I've been listening for about a week now and I am so hooked! I notice on a lot, if not all, vids you address being called out as elite and perfect and oh the ego, etc. I don't get that impression at all. I love what you have to say and I feel your feedback and commentary are genuine and educational and not egotistical. I'm not a diver at all but have always been fascinated with diving, having grown up with ocean documentaries etc. At a young age I thought I would love to grow up and scuba dive. I have an intense fear of drowning (having almost drowned at a very young age) and now that I'm older and have lost my sense of immortality, I'm content to simply watch videos. I don't know what it is about you two, but I'm so comfortable and entertained and even educated, I am never bored listening to you! I don't think I could watch/listen to, say, Bob Ballard and Jacque Cousteau for hours on end, even though I liked them. I thoroughly enjoy your commentary and presence. I've learned a lot and have laughed and laughed at your moments of comedy. Thank you so much for doing what you do! Lobe you guys :)
Woody has to be a great teacher! He has the ability to pair any critique with an affirmation. It's the sandwich technique - affirm, critique, affirm. That can come off as soft-pedaling, but it's a great way to get around defensiveness so people can be open to what they need to hear.
I'm sorry Woody, but I really don't get it. He's not being humble - he's trying to show off. You can see how happy he is with himself. This is what he does; he has an obsession with trying to seem like a super duper cool guy who does dangerous shit and survives thanks to his superhuman abilities. The guy might be all heart in the cage which is why I've been a fan, but he's also absolutely full of shit. It sucks to say but as a diver I really dislike the guy. I've had two drysuit failures during ice diving (one catastrophic) in Nordic winter conditions, and the cold shock alone will make you forget about anything else. The catastrophic one literally nearly killed me, and even the minor one was a miserable experience, and probably the second worst dive I've had.
He should be disliked as a diver and as anything else. At the end of the day a histrionic narcissist is just that, a histrionic narcissist. Aka: a very shitty, self-centered, selfish person. He doesn't suddenly change into a different individual just because he's in a different situation. It doesn't mater if he's diving or at the cash register line in the super market, although the former makes him a goddamn hazard to everyone around him. These people are a bane to society wherever they are, they're literally the opposite of a decent considerate human being.
I think that the internet at large would benefit from understanding the concept of "dead dove: do not eat" the idea being that if you don't like content, choose not to consume it rather than making a storm about what you don't agree with
I think that this guy thinks it's cool that he puts himself into these situations (or at least pretends to get himself in them). I don't for a second believe that with no air, he crawled up a soft, silty embankment (hard work) over 30 ft to the surface. Sounds like barroom bragging to me. Even just listening to him, he sets off my BS meter big time.
It sounds like he takes every small problem and multiplies it 10x when he tells a story. I hope so, because if he is telling the truth he won’t live much longer.
I absolutely agree. His dumb bragging aside, the story is full of holes. The dive might have happened (in which case he's a moron for doing stupid risky stuff AGAIN, making me wonder if he's actually as certified as he says - the way he talks is what I'd expect from someone with a very superficial and limited understanding of some pretty basic scuba knowledge) but I strongly think what really happened was perhaps a leak that forced him to surface, or just poor gas management. Maybe there was a slightly leaky drysuit too - or the water temp was WAY warmer than what is being claimed. If you were in his claimed situation, would your first thought be to ditch the weights and inflate your BCD - or sit at the bottom staring at your gas pressure gauge, while your suit is filled with ice cold water, and then immediately fucking start crawling at a direction you hope is the shore? Oh and pick up your little treasure too. It's not like you'd be cold, right? And your claimed situation isn't life-threatening at all, so it's ok to waste the rest of your gas picking up your little treasure! It has to be a pretty long way to shore considering that the slope has to be very gentle if he's able to CRAWL his way to shore being weighted down so heavily. What kind of a superhero is he if he's able to not just do that, but do it with no gas and immersed in god damn icewater? It's giving me a massive headache this. Ps. Wouldn't a $1k worth of silver be like 1,5kg...?
Right? Normally people tell too many details in stories like this, not struggle to come up with enough to sound believable. "I reached into the silt and grabbed the thing." "Honey I got the thing!" What thing? Zero description of it. Almost like it didn't exist.
🤣
Your are all liars he came back on a moby dick with no safety stop. Why lie about doing a safety stop.
I’m dying 😂😂😂😂
I agree, don’t “cave” in and talk agreeable with someone like this Woody!
We love that you two speak the truth.
I'm not so sure, Woody was just really trying to give him the benefit of the doubt, even though the story is unbelievable
Yes exactly how I felt. It came across as inauthentic because he’s never held back so much for any other video before.
Speak your mind guys... I didn't enjoy seeing Woody holding back in fear of Donald Cerrone fan boys getting upset... tell it how it is... thanks for your honest opinions Gus 👍👍
Yeah, it seems Woody is almost too nice as a person, and in this episode he seemed hellbent on being diplomatic.
Yeah this was cringe as fuck
Exactly, the guys is obviously a moron and completely full of shit. He's good at fighting, so are gorillas.
I Agree!! Stop Woody!
just because you disagree with woody doesnt mean he wasnt honest

@@DIVETALK I think that's very big of you, just one more reason why you guys make the internet a better place
@jarrahntommy Nah, Woody seems like the guy that can have such a perspective. Maybe he was... diving... into his instructor's role.
Cowboy must’ve threatened Woody
Agreed.
You guys are so damn funny. Woody: I've never seen somebody have so many problems. Gus: You would think they're exaggerating.
Good point. Don't go cave diving with someone you can't trust.
ehh i actually like the fact that woody played devils advocate here, i think thats what makes dive talk so good some times.. they both can make valid arguments even if they dont agree with the original statement. it also brightens the content and comes off as not so critical and bullish, which is good when its not a situation that anyone else can take bad information from.
Yes I agree with you. We want you guys to stay alive
Seawater actually freezes at an average around 28-29F. Otherwise, agreed.
It's not so much that Woody isn't hearing the story correctly. Hes playing a bit (as he often does), taking the story at face value, and commenting on the things that he agrees with. Kind of playing an extreme devil's advocate as a response to all the flak they got over the last video about this guy.
Cowboy’s taken too many hits to the head if he thinks he’s convincing anyone with his “totally true” stories. Humility is a foreign word to this guy.
@Paul T Smallwood don't be embarrassed mate people can be good at sprinkling bullshit into stories in a very subtle way
Youre probably right and CTE and brain damage isn't funny.... Guarantee if you had brain damage he wouldn't be mocking you. Seems like this comment section is just a bunch of dorks finally getting to make fun of a guy that reminds them of who they were bullied by. But what do I know
Yeah, it's more than just a big ego, he's a legend in his own mind. Seems like maybe he's a tiny bit narcissistic. Huh?
Woody just give it to us how it is, we love when you pause and interject because that’s how we gain knowledge on such interesting nuances of diving in all of the vids. Don’t worry about the people saying to stop interrupting so much, THEY CAN FIND ANOTHER CHANNEL! this is dive TALK, not dive WATCH. Love the tandem of you and Gus, keep up the great content.
👏
I 100 percent agree with this comment! If people don't like what you are saying then just don't watch. I love when y'all are honest on the videos, it's teaching us so much great diving information?
I don't want y'all to change how you react just because some people are too damn sensitive. Y'all keep being awesome!
I know right! It's a reaction channel! Lmao
Agree completely, woody pussed out on this video.
My thoughts exactly. I'm watching to hear their reaction lol. It's a reaction video... I don't understand some people
I'm not a diver ... but I'm fairly good at reading people and evaluate "stories", and I'm with you Gus on this. The guy is spicing up the story.
Also known as lying.
I think he's making most of it up.😂
Woody..you need to learn what Humble-Bragging is.
I agree, but the story wasn’t all that “carefully crafted” if I, a 78yo non diver could see right through it. I avoid such people..
@@sandygrogg1203 Hard to avoid them, they're everywhere!
Totally agree.
This^ He may really test the safety of the team if he goes with you but then, with cameras on and witnesses, he might behave.
Bruh. Underrated comment lol
Precisely
Exactly.
Woody
When a drysuit floods, yes - you lose the bouyancy from the loss of the air in the dry suit, but the water flooding the dry suit is the same density as the surrounding water, so the WATER does NOT add any weight to the submerged diver. However, it it definitely a factor when exiting the water. So drop your weights and the water is not going to contribute to any added negativity
John
He’s not being humble, he’s humble bragging. It’s so obviously veiled that he likes talking about all the stupid things he does to make him seem “extreme” or “badass”. He legitimately thinks being stupid makes him look good.
You nailed it! Couldn’t have said it better!
@@slonekettering25 I’ll also add, the wife’s “intuition” is that she knows he’s stupid. 😂

That's precisely right. Well said.

Lol, true statement!!
You totally had me with first sentence lmao 🤣

Woody he can’t get hypothermia because after waging war with the megalodon he raised the temperature of his wet suit.
Reality is that he didn't get hypothermia because he pissed himself and warmed right up.
Now I want to see him tell a story, with conviction, about the time he fought a monster while diving.
😂

I love that Gus and Woody aren't afraid to disagree.
Well I would agree with him but then we would both be wrong.
@@DIVETALK 🤣🤣
He reminds of one or two people I've known well over the years that eventually revealed themselves to be compulsive liars.
Succession of events as Cerrone described it:
1) His second stage (I think he said second stage) exploded and he started rapidly losing air.

The way he is saying “I broke all the rules and I shouldn’t go” but it’s the look and the “but” that comes after makes me believe he doesn’t give a shit about the rules. He thinks he is above them 100%!
Reminds me of this analogy

😂😂 Love it, this sounds like it should be a Rick and Morty episode.
Some “Legend” he is 🙄
idk why but opening the porthole is the only part that got me

There isn’t a video of watch of you two that I am just not absolutely enthralled in. I listen to you guys on my drive in to work and before bed each night. I have always had a great interest in cave diving, but as of now I’m just an open water diver, you guys have lit a fire in me to pursue cave diving further.
Awesome to hear Brenna! Get after it!

You guys are far from being egotistical, you’re just very very knowledgable on the topic you react to!
You two are the most humble people I’ve seen on TH-cam
Woody dont want the smoke from this reaction like the last one but Gus is keeping it 💯 like always
I’m in agreement with Gus. This guy is not being humble, he’s humble bragging about his stupidity and making rationalization for his errors.
I personally don't understand the ego comments. You guys don't seem egotistical.
I appreciate the long comment. Thank you for dropping it and I’m glad you are enjoying our videos.
Also, I love it that Gus is struggling to keep a straight face and Woody sometimes goes for a, let's say, less judgemental demeanor. Not in this video specifically, for sometimes people deserve to be roasted, but it generally comes across like that.

Hahahahaha
I personally am Super diver and super crawler (certified) myself. Number one rule in Super Diving is TRAINING. There are many open cave divers and open crawlers who attempt Super caves only to perish due to their inflated egos. Many such cases.

Agreed, this was so cringe woody looked like a real idiot in this video.
I googled how quickly you get hypothermia in thirty degrees water and this is what I found, “A person who is immersed in near-freezing water at temperatures of 32.5°F/0.3°C will have symptoms of mild hypothermia in under 2 minutes and will be unconscious in less than 15 minutes, with an expected survival time of 15 to 45 minutes.”
If his suite flooded with below freezing water how did he not pass out after fifteen minutes? He also definitely would have had hypothermia even if he managed to get to the shore in under fifteen minutes, so he would have needed to go to the hospital.
It was an obvious exaggeration use your head
So you know when he’s talking about finding clues and going to coordinates he’s talking about geo cacheing . People hide things in specific hard to get places and put up the coordinates online and then others go and try and find them . He kind of makes it sound like he’s truly treasure hunting and randomly finding this stuff but he’s not. It’s a thing people do and hide stuff on purpose for people to go find lol

Gus and Woody, I've been sick with the flu this week and discovered your channel, and I can't stop watching! If I hadn't developed serious health issues a few years ago, I would love so much to learn to dive.

Your channel will explode one day. I know nothing about diving at all. These videos are just entertaining. Great commentary

Just be yourself and tell it as it is and who cares what anybody else thinks.
you guys are the best small youtube channel on this site keep up the great work!
13:37 and what does "like dead, completely and totally out of air" mean?
@@ABCDiver can't remember what this video is and can't be bothered to watch it, so I'm gonna guess... flat tyre...?
Hahaha, I want that "Cowboy let's go Cave Diving" t-shirt. I hope he actually takes you up on it.
I'd buy
"Come diving with me and I'll put you in a place where you can't see anything and you're in fear for your life" - Cerronne
Me: "Exactly...."
Holy shit I've never clicked a notification any faster in my life
Woody has to be a great teacher!
Couldn’t have said it better myself 👍🏾
Trust me,, you're not the only one
Right? Normally people tell too many details in stories like this, not struggle to come up with enough to sound believable. "I reached into the silt and grabbed the thing." "Honey I got the thing!" What thing? Zero description of it. Almost like it didn't exist.
