I knew nothing about diving before stumbling on this channel really, but learning about these people's amazing accomplishments and unfortunate tragedies is fascinating. You guys have done a great job in educating your audience to the nuances, guidelines and rules involved. Also you do a good job of breaking down what's happening and how/why it might have potentially happened from an experienced divers perspective in both the success's and failures that you've covered.

This episode hits close for me. Being a woman in construction I can relate SO much to some of the experiences Jill has had. The number of times the men around me assume I'm an Admin and ask for reports but then are surprised to find out I'm actually a Detailer (Drafter) gets kind of old. I'm the only female detailer at my branch and the only girl on most projects and in meetings too. Thank you both for showcasing such a badass inspirational woman! And thank you Jill for this interview! ❤ This one meant a lot.

I know your question "why does she feel she has to talk about being a "woman" in cave diving?" was genuine and it's tough to explain to men how ostracizing it feels in industries that are predominately male lead (STEM for one). Fighting for fair treatment is just part of the reality when you are the only woman around, and that sometimes means you can't make mistakes and have to be hyper aware of how your attitudes are being interpreted, or else you may get pushed aside. This is why the gender discussion is so important and by Jil saying how she feels in a male dominated industry in a very public interview, she is able to contribute to better equality.

What an excellent video, fellas! Thank you, Jill, for all that you do to advance humanity’s knowledge of this astonishing planet, and for inspiring a new generation of intrepid young explorers and scientists. I’m just in awe that your work has implications ranging from terrestrial geology to abiogenesis to astrobiology on exoplanets! What an absolute LEGEND!

God the description of cave diving at the beginning makes me want to do it so badly cause I completely understand it, I absolutely love being in caves and underground cause you're literally inside the planet and I've never found the words to fully describe it but there's definitely something spiritual about being in a place created by water over thousands or millions of years

The technology is so fascinating. I think it's crazy that there are divers who would resist it! I have to imagine it's much safer to map caves for the first time using a rover. I mean, I can't imagine that everyone has access to this technology but I would expect everyone to be chomping at the bit for an opportunity to play with such cool toys!

I went to college for music composition. In the composition program, it was all guys except for me and one other student. One day our composition professor started talking about women in composing and it threw me off when I realized what he was talking about and was confused at first because why would he talk about female composers? That's kinda weird. and then it clicked. I never realized I was a "female composer" until that moment. And that was him proving that despite us always hearing about the male composers which dominate the composing landscape, there are still plenty of well-known and great female composers... even though I never even thought of it that way. In my mind I was just a composer. Anyway, carry on.

This was one of my favorite videos of yours (btw I love all of your videos and have learned so much from them that I can apply to my own diving scenarios). I love the way Jill talks about the water and the industry. I am also writing a paper on gender and video games, and I think what she says is PERFECT for me to use, and current! Thank you for sharing!!!! What a gem!
