I know your question "why does she feel she has to talk about being a "woman" in cave diving?" was genuine and it's tough to explain to men how ostracizing it feels in industries that are predominately male lead (STEM for one). Fighting for fair treatment is just part of the reality when you are the only woman around, and that sometimes means you can't make mistakes and have to be hyper aware of how your attitudes are being interpreted, or else you may get pushed aside. This is why the gender discussion is so important and by Jil saying how she feels in a male dominated industry in a very public interview, she is able to contribute to better equality.
I remember mentioning Jill in one of your livestream events as one of the pioneers and Gus picking up on it. I never imagined you would have her on but am really happy you did. She is such an inspiring person, kudos to you for putting it together.

Amazing video and interview! I had no idea who Jill was but over the course of this video she’s become one of my heroes. As always, great work gentlemen! Thank you so much 😊
I went to college for music composition. In the composition program, it was all guys except for me and one other student. One day our composition professor started talking about women in composing and it threw me off when I realized what he was talking about and was confused at first because why would he talk about female composers? That's kinda weird. and then it clicked. I never realized I was a "female composer" until that moment. And that was him proving that despite us always hearing about the male composers which dominate the composing landscape, there are still plenty of well-known and great female composers... even though I never even thought of it that way. In my mind I was just a composer. Anyway, carry on.
This woman is the real definition of a boss! She’s incredibly impressive yet humble. I’m in awe because I don’t have the ability to control my emotions especially with my severe claustrophobia. What a great interview!

The technology is so fascinating. I think it's crazy that there are divers who would resist it! I have to imagine it's much safer to map caves for the first time using a rover. I mean, I can't imagine that everyone has access to this technology but I would expect everyone to be chomping at the bit for an opportunity to play with such cool toys!
You know as an instructor I can honestly say over the years, divers really do have the most fun and are the "happiest". Every single dive, when done properly, is an experience and privilege most people are completely oblivious to and that makes it both rewarding but also humbling and seeing how this lady acts with all her accolades you can tell just by looking in her eyes she doesn't take the stance of im better than you. That's truly what this world needs is being humble to those less skilled but not limiting them to be below you but pushing them to be past you. Need more people like you and for the female demographics, I hope you find the platform to do so. I love teaching everyone dont get me wrong but I take more pride when teaching women and daughters as I know and have seen other schools steering away just because the gender. Gender means nothing.. skills, drive, determination and being humble is everything, want a example.. here is the perfect one. Loved the interview and I was just as much in awe haha gus you got me too with the reveal =) great jobs guys all the best !
My mom lived of the east coast of Newfoundland as a child and she had stories about going caving in icebergs. Hats off to those that do these incredible things and, keep safe out there. Cheers from Canada.

Thank you for bringing Jill on your Channel! Very inspirational!
I remember mentioning Jill in one of your livestream events as one of the pioneers and Gus picking up on it. I never imagined you would have her on but am really happy you did. She is such an inspiring person, kudos to you for putting it together.
Thank you!
What an amazing woman… Her word were so inspiring..Her humility, and her wonder a what she is so privileged to do is so perfect…
I love that you guys have chosen to feature another female cave diver! This is great representation and I look forward to seeing more features in the future
Amazing guest speaker. Thanks for setting up this interview!
This was great journalism, truly an inspirational interview. I love the meaningful thoughtful questions. Well done Gus and Woody! I can’t wait to see more like this.
Listening to Jill talk so passionately about diving and about what it meant to her... Wow that was powerful. I felt moved listening to her, that was beautiful.
What an excellent video, fellas! Thank you, Jill, for all that you do to advance humanity’s knowledge of this astonishing planet, and for inspiring a new generation of intrepid young explorers and scientists. I’m just in awe that your work has implications ranging from terrestrial geology to abiogenesis to astrobiology on exoplanets! What an absolute LEGEND!
Glad you enjoyed it!

You guys have inspired me to want to dive over the past 6 months or so and I never expected that I'd ever get a chance or even decide to take the step to go get certified but watching you three get so excited talking about this has inspired me to find a place to get my certification and I've found a place that seems rather affordable I want to thank you woody and Gus for showing me something I've never thought of doing and cause such passion within myself it's a beautiful hobby and I can't wait to join all of you wonderful people in the water
WOW! What an amazing person! So articulate and well spoken and driven. Great video 👍 interview
Glad you enjoyed it!
I am not a diver but I love your videos and learning about it! :) Thank you for featuring this amazing woman!
Also, Woody- Love the beanie-I just looked at the merch store for the first time because of it and I had NO idea you guys had so many choices for dive talk stuff and they are all awesome I can hardly choose what to get!
Your PASSION is so lovely to watch!
Excellent episode guys!! By the way, the book is amazing. A really honest chronicle of Jill's experiences, both ups and downs.
Gus and Eddie's skills as interviews cannot be over stated. I mean just their active listening elevates the content. But the questions they ask and the way they ask them is always so wonderful. I think interviewers in all fields can look at this and appreciate it as a great example of pure journalism.
Amazing video and interview! I had no idea who Jill was but over the course of this video she’s become one of my heroes. As always, great work gentlemen! Thank you so much 😊
What a great interview! Thanks Jill and God bless!
She is a legend love her positive attitude and joy!
She is a legend of cave diving and I hope in the future you do a reaction of Ben's vortex. It was a very good documentary.
Jill! OMG. You guys are so encompassing, encouraging, frequently perfectly sarcastic & funny, always informative. Thank you!
Dive talk with breakfast as usual, you guys should sell dive talk coffee cups!
They're coming Oct.14th!
This woman is the real definition of a boss! She’s incredibly impressive yet humble. I’m in awe because I don’t have the ability to control my emotions especially with my severe claustrophobia. What a great interview!
I had a dream about swimming through a super narrow ice berg cave as a kid, thought it was nuts when I woke up, and now here is this lovely lady doing it 🤯
Where some see danger, others see opportunity. Makes the world that we live in a much better place. This lady has unbelievable courage and strength.
As a person who has never been a diver, I learned so much from listening, and have been highly entertained. Great work guys! Awesome Awesome and interesting content.
I’m so so glad I found this channel! Not only are you both fantastic hosts and provide wonderful insight into a niche world, but you also introduce us to such fantastic divers such as Jill. She’s my new hero and I cannot wait for her documentary and will be ordering her book ASAP!
Gus and Woody this was an epic interview!! I just want to pour her coffee to be able to see her in action and hear her stories!! Gus I will never play poker with you because you surprised Woody again lol. I literally jumped in my seat when I saw Jill appear! That’s 🍌 Gus 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Glad you enjoyed it!
I also was caught totally off guard. I smiled through the whole interview. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽😲😀
Just amazing again guys, actually getting Jill on was an amazing thing to watch and listen to to her point of view thanks again guys
Jill’s interview makes me think she’s kind of like the Amelia Earhart of cave diving. A real trailblazer for women.
Just as long as she doesn't end up as crab food the way Earhart did.
I love her. She is really amazing. Not even 'just' as a diver but what a bright positive person she is. Wow.🙏❤️
This was one of my favorite videos of yours (btw I love all of your videos and have learned so much from them that I can apply to my own diving scenarios). I love the way Jill talks about the water and the industry. I am also writing a paper on gender and video games, and I think what she says is PERFECT for me to use, and current! Thank you for sharing!!!! What a gem!
I just want to say that I love when Gus surprises Woody. It's like, I know what's coming and I just wait to see the joy on his face, it's adorable. You guys are great!
This is such an amazing interview, your channel is so fantastic and you all have the best chemistry!!
Oh my, this woman is so amazing - so inspirational! Please bring/talk about more women like her
I'm claustrophobic and also afraid of deep water but this woman makes me want to learn diving
Love Jill. Excellent, personally autographed, writer and great life.
I’ve been waiting for you guys to talk about Jill Heinerth! Her memoir is what sparked my interest in cave diving
Jill is an AMAZING woman and she really inspired me after listening to her !
So I completed my first open water dive while I was on vacation and I have to say it was an amazing, beautiful and liberating experience now I want to get PADI Certified. Thanks again Woody and Gus for the inspiration.
Woohoo! Love it!!!
Together we are stronger, separation creates fear,
Amazing an positive human Jill is...she has a beautiful message so very inspiring.... Thanks for sharing your life with us Jill...I an being a person who isn't afraid to try new an innovative ideas... Gus & Woody I am grateful to have found your channel... ✌🏼💗😊❣️
I didn't believe her but, some guy's I worked with from the area did the same, but, they wouldn't go in far, mom called them pussies. Hats off to those that do these incredible things and, keep safe out there. Cheers from Canada.
They did it again, amazing that they could interview Jill!!!
Very cool apex professional in the industry. So interesting and engaging. What a joy to hear the guest more than the host. Great questions too Love you guys and the channel.
I've watched this interview so many times. Jill is so inspirational & so humble despite all her achievements. Definitely one of my heroes 💪🏽
