Weirdly enough if DKoldies offers third party warranty they can do that. I am not saying I trust they would hold up their 90 day guarantee but they do offer it so technically they can put a sticker to have some kind of check to see if someone opened the system and messed with something. It would be nice if they actually opened up the system and cleaned it but I guess that is asking too much.(also what they offer is technically not a warranty it is more of a money back guarantee but they avertise it as a warranty)
@@phenry5083 He lays out what the warrantee covers and the conditions of said warrantee on the website. Technically he is in the clear on that. What I was saying is the Sticker acts as a check for tampering, which is perfectly legal. A company can refuse to uphold a warrantee if they feel the device is tampered with in any way. (which is outlined in section 2304 subsection C which a tamper proof sticker is the way that section can be inforced) That is the whole point of why companies add those tamper-proof stickers on devices. He might not sell what I would consider refurbished devices but he does at least have a rebust third-party warrantee even if it is for store credit and not for a replacement device. The only thing that would get DKoldies on this was the fact the device was already in a poor state when the consumer purchased the device and since Jacob R. has video proof of opening the package and then opening the console it is reasonable to assume he was not the one that neglected the device. So if DKoldie tried to refuse their warrentee because of lack of maintenance (which is outlined in 2304 subsection B) Jacob R has proof he received the item in subpar condition.(which is outlined in 2304 subsection A) and all of those references are with the amendments to the warrentees act that were added with the Magnuson moss warrentees act.

A lil company (Small compared to much larger companies) like dk oldies would actually be easy to sue. Be funny if he brings them to small claims court if they won't let him return it lmao
One thing I have not seen you guys do is to do the dust/fan clean with holding the eject button and connecting the power . I just got a used ps3 for less than dk oldies pricing say 35 dollars at the local thrift shop . The ps3 blew a cloud of dust .definitely recommend doing it every so often to lessen dust inside .
I don't see how DK oldies stays in business. They overprice everything and the 3rd party controllers being unspecified has to be annoying. They also don't completely "refurbish" everything in my opinion. Refurbished should be from "very good" to "like new" condition and have the inside cleaned out, otherwise it's just used but cleaned. Just my opinion, of course.
They don't refurbish anything they're lying to justify pricing above market value. External cleaning doesn't count as a refurbishment as any reputable seller would do that regardless.

All the local places near me sell consoles like this for maybe $150ish for a PS3, and it comes with all the original cables and OEM controller. It’s crazy that DKoldies does this, and maddening that they trick so many people
This is crazy. I got a fat PS3 for half of the cost of what you paid on DKOldies on eBay, and it’s a night and day difference. The seller mentioned he thoroughly got the dust out, and that the only issue was the disc drive not being able to eject immediately after rebooting. The price and condition for this is shocking. My local retro game store, legit cleans everything inside and out. Even cleans up cases for games and wraps them all in protective wrap when on the floor to sell. Plus if there is ever an issue they will fix it. Service this expensive and poor is embarrassing.

Here's the thing: If I ever WERE to part with any of my consoles, I would try my best to open it up and clean it, whether it be recapping, cleaning out the dust, or replacing any parts, ESPECIALLY if I were to sell something for close to this kind of price. DKOldies pricing is absolutely RIDICULOUS. I want to apologize to the pricing at my local retro shop, because while some prices are...questionable, they're a LOT more fair than DKOldies. (I bought a Wii U at the shop for $130, while DKO's price was over $200 for the same exact model. jesus christ)
I like how it's discounted from its full launch MSRP of $600, which was so high it caused the system to struggle against the much cheaper Xbox 360 until the slim launched 3 years later.
It’s these sort of shady business practices that mess up the retro gaming economy in the long run for enthusiasts. If they think this is acceptable for $400 then imagine what sellers on eBay are gonna start pricing their fat ps3s that aren’t this dirty… they’ve single handedly destroyed the market they try to market their products to
I wonder if it's possible to file a class action lawsuit against them for false advertising. They claim to refurbish the consoles but they clearly don't.
Yes! however people need to give them a chance to correct the problem (In no way am I defending DKscams) if they fail in correcting the problem and refuse a refund then you can enforce a lawsuit.. The false advertising is a nail in the coffing..
man thanks for informing us! i am so glad i didn't spend my extra cash on this place.. my best experiences purchasing used games and consoles is ebay and mercari, everything for the most part is priced decently!
In terms of Ps3 Controller, I had this almost exact same thing happened to me, where I brought ps3 from reseller website and I got not an OEM controller (only noticed it when I got home, i paid ~45$ for whole thing). The reason you can't play some ps2 and ps3 games is due to the fact that non-OEM controller lack certain Dualshock 2 and 3 features (like sixaxis and most importantly, sensitive pressure buttons). This will break a lot, if not most of PS3 library, For example,it might break certain features of the game like it breaks yakuza 5 driving minigame or it might break whole game like MGS HD collection or GTA 5 just wont respond at all. Nowadays , it's extremely difficult (atleast here in europe) to find a working ps3 controller. I bought 3 used controllers and 2 of them developed random button pressing issues due to foam connecting the controller board getting old and needing replacement (I tried fixing one of them myself but the freaking controllers built in such a way that putting them back together is a nightmare) I managed to get 1 that works but the best part is 1 OEM controller can run anywhere from 40 to 60$ and again, good luck getting one without that fault. That's why in my opinion, the biggest scam here is not an OEM controller (and obviously the price) TBH it pisses me off when people try to sell it without OEM because it might as well be nothing. Throw it straight into the trash
Received my twentieth OEM controller couple days ago. Paid less than 5€ each. Some of them have had the issue you described but it was easy to "repair" them. Guess I was very lucky. 😁
That is absolutely disgraceful, I've seen a few videos like this now about dkoldies but this is by far the worst condition, someone needs to throw the book at them for false advertisement
that's clearly just scrubbed off with a magic eraser (melamine pad) which would cause the cloudiness, since magic erasers are basically a very light sand paper. for $400 I would expect them to actually polish the plastic so it looks brand new
This has GameStop beat as I watched a couple of GameStop refurbished videos and this is beyond insanity. eBay is where I would always go to purchases my products as I had been doing so for a decade now, ha ha.
These kind of businesses need to be held accountable for this kind of stuff on a legal level. Obviously they can price it however they want, but marking up the price to a ridiculous amount and then having it on a permanent "sale" at a lower still ludicrous price is illegal. Not to mention the straight up lies about the condition/pictures showing a dualshock controller you obviously wont receive. I will always support small/local businesses before the big tycoons, but companies like DKoldies ruin the credibility for retro gaming stores. So many people will avoid all of these types of stores and just buy on ebay due to the scummy practices of DKoldies. But, until people wise up and stop supporting this thievery they will continue getting away with this.
The least they could have done was spray it with a can of air. The fact that they didn't do that yet still call it cleaned and refurbished is shocking. All they did was buy a console for less than $200 then sell it for double that
600 BUCKS for FULL PRICE if it wasn’t on sale for being cosmetically flawed how do they get away with this?? you’re paying more than the cost of a brand new ps5

I like the videos DKOldies makes because it’s nostalgic, but their price point is ridiculous. This is the second video I’ve seen by you where they give you a 3rd party controller after paying a higher price than when the consoles were originally released, let alone years after their release and multiple newer generation consoles being released. You can buy an Xbox series S or the digital PS5 at that price and they would be brand new with backwards compatibility. I wish refurbished had a legal definition because this would be criminal. They clearly didn’t even wipe the outside down, let alone do anything inside. I feel like someone would legitimately have to go out of their way to ship it that dirty. If my hand accidentally grazed against it it would be cleaner. I’ve bought games from them in the past, but I am ashamed to see what they’ve sent you.
I feel really bad for someone who buys a PS3 for the first time from DKoldies and is really excited but can’t play anything because of the third party controller
Tip for anyone who has a BC PS3 with 3rd party controllers. To use 3rd party controllers in PS2 mode, you need to rapidly press the PS button on the controller as you're plugging it in. It may not work first try, so you need to keep doing it until it works.

I love how they put their own warranty sticker on everything even though they have ZERO legal ground to stand on to enforce it.
@@mat99rich even then the sticker doesn’t mean anything. The magnuson moss warranty act protects the buyer
That’s not true they can enforce their own warranty considering they refurbished it….

There are like 3 diferent builds of controller, I had to see 3 videos to find my controller build.

This has GameStop beat as I watched a couple of GameStop refurbished videos and this is beyond insanity. eBay is where I would always go to purchases my products as I had been doing so for a decade now, ha ha.
This is just outrageous! Please do a follow up video to show what they do about this!
I would be embarrassed if I sold a console on ebay and shipped it to a customer in that condition without notice of a non OEM controller.
