Dude, I don't even own a PS3, but your sheer will to fix dead PS3s is downright inspiring. Makes me want to get back into learning electrical engineering.
Great video as usual Felix! 19:10 I really think it depends on the flux you're using. I reball RSX with NC-559-V2-TF and one layer of flux and all ball sit into place perfect and no need to apply another layer. 32:00 Damn I gotta start showing the stress tests now hahahahaha.
Yeah, I was using this fake stuff that came with a reballing kit. I later switched to kingbo (also came with reballing kit, but is much better. Albeit smelling of cancer). But still, the pads start to dry out and I can see the bottom of the ball merge with the pad, but not center. When that happens I have to add a second layer of flux and reheat. I thought I needed to do it all in one step to keep the heat I use on the chip to a minimum. While that does matter, it's not like I'm going to murder the chip like I was fearing. They can take more than I was thinking. So I had to get out of my head about it and let the chip dictate the heat it needs to be reballed. And not worry about it.

6:30 I believe you mean "less in the past Felix here." 31:36 Lol, I bought a PS2 slim off of CL (no mention of any defects) for 10 bucks thinking I got a steal. Took it home, plugged it in, and nothing, not even a power light. Took it apart and tried to see if I could diagnose any of the components, but I'm a complete amateur, so that was a dead end. Then, as I was doing the reassembly of shame, I noticed the power/eject ribbon cable looked kinda funky. Upon closer inspection, it appeared as though the previous owner had ruined the original and then tried to shave down a wider one and jam it in. One quick month long 40 cent AliExpress shipment later and I was in business. Couldn't do the FMCB process on my own because something in the disc drive is fucked and I don't want to make things worse. But hey, now I have a perfectly good way to play PS2 games.
Really enjoy watching the story of your findings and work and also felt your pain as you sigh in the moments the ps3 was being a jerk but glad you came out the victor.
The detail in your videos is detailed, factual and you are absolutely upfront about the BS surrounding the issue. If we had more people like you in the world we would have better outcomes instead of machines going to landfill. Keep up the videos I'm really enjoying listening to your journey.
Really enjoy your video, watched everyone of it multiple times. Make me feel I am not so stupid after failed over 2 dozen PS3s, over $2500 too😢 not ever get as far doing a successful reball. You are great! Thank you
this video was so motivational and inspiring, its not just an educational tech stuff, the story of fixing a console you tought was unfixable is seriously impressive and i cant wait to someday challenge myself with a repair like that someday, although i think a ps3 would be way out of my league besides its not my favourite console, still your efforts makes me really hope that someday i could fix my fav console despite thinking its imposible
Great stuff and dedication. I remember the board, yea. It makes sense the logic gates blew because with the missing resistor the voltage controller overloaded them. It raised the voltage and current, but the gates can only take 50 mA on the input and 25mA on the output, which is a lot less than any other component in that power line. I think on the Cell side they also shorted at the output. My case deviated later on ... Wish I had your energy to make a similar video since I had to additionally redraw the green mask with the curing ink. That took a while...
i was fortunate enough to see your first upload while searching for random ps3 videos. been watching since and soo far i have to say i love the level of detail and research that goes into those. i hope you do more and keep uploading. and i hope you have great sucess ^_^.

This is a glorious story of perseverance. My CECHA00 is on borrowed time being only repasted in the past, mad props to researchers like you for giving us hope for a better future.
I have one of those. I bought it from ebay for 50 dollars that said it didn't turn on. When I came in I hooked it up and it turned right on and had the original 2007 firmware on it. I put a disc in and it didn't work. This ps3 was clean. I'm assuming someone bought it and the disk drive died and they stored it somewhere dry. It was in perfect condition and never opened. Well I replaced the disk drive in it and it runs perfectly. Doesn't get loud or anything.
I'm happy to say I've fixed two PS3 thanks to your info & PCBs you made. However I'll like to know that both are ones that only got YLOD in games like "The Last of Us" but are PS2 BC models.
Im waiting on my cp2102 atm to see whats the error code. Like everyone I was going to change the tokin without testing anything. I heard of your video and watched it all (1 and 2) and im glad I did it. I have a late ylod so im pretty sure ill have to find a 65nm to revive my old phat model. But fir the price I got it ill try my best and hope its gonna come back to life ! Thanks for all the information you gave out youre a legend

You are doing an incredible job and I am proud of you, work at your own speed and pace:) I would rather wait for more content that is up to your standards then watch something that isn’t:) Amazing work tho:)
@@ripfelix3020 I'm just no technical engineer, but i went on the PS3 Tokin fix-wave, and fixed just 1 out of 4 consoles with the tantalums. I never went so deep to understand the processes or read syscon codes. After watching and reading your findings - I believe it was sheer luck, and I have no idea if the console worked after 2 weeks. Never bought another console when I found your huge-ass post :) Thanks, and again, well done
Great video! And what I can 100% understand is the fact that you had a working Frankenstein console and then fixed another one for fun. At least that's how it is for me: I need a working device, so to speak as a "backup" and then repair other identical devices. Mostly PS4 consoles or Xbox One. But I really wish for a Frankenstein PS3. Not because I need it. I only want one :P Unfortunately the prices are very high and I already have 8 or 9 PS3 Slim consoles...So that would be nonsense. Anyway, please continue! Your video was totally entertaining and fun to watch
This video hits me on an emotional level. I bought my launch model day one, and yes, I got the ylod over a decade ago. I'm just waiting, hopeful that some passionate people with a very high skill set will come up with an actual answer after almost 2 decades of ylod. Ps3 is, imo, the greatest console ever made, and I'm just hopeful to get mine working again one day.
If you could make a video explaining the last cap setup you used to make it work that would be great so we can know their capacitances and their positions. Tks pal
I was given a 60gb that has the ylod. I tried the caps myself and didnt get any results. I have a A01 and a E01 both if which are backwards compatible and well taken care of. So it wasnt a big deal but it would be great to get it repaired non the less. But your persistence to fix this thing is amazing.
Hello, Felix, how are you doing pal? Could make a video on how to diagnose Caps using an Oscilloscope? Like it's shown in the video? And the link to that specific post about the guy diagnosing them? Thanks a lot man. Keep it up 👍
The amount of patience you need to fix one of these is extreme. I myself doesn't have a backwards compatible ps3, I only have a non compatable phat ps3 (Which works without any problem) and 3 slim and a super slim. I was about to try to get one back in the day, but seeing how much of a pain a non franken modded one could be in the future I just chose to keep playing on my ps2 if I want to play ps2 games.
Amazing video! All YLOD videos for PS3 should be all like this rather than the random hot air or capacitor "fix" without any diagnosis swamping the whole internet. "Diagnosis --> Repair --> Diagnosis --> Repair --> ... --> until the repair is successful" is what a legit repair should be like.
Hello Felix. Last year, with your help and Psx-Place's help (Nec tokin fix), I fixed my faulty (Intense rlod) Cechc04 ps3. It still works very well, I even played tlou before the series came out recently. Yesterday I bought another Cechk model ps3 with rlod to try to fix it. It has not been opened before. I will remove the nec tokens and install the tantalum capacitors without using hot air (In order not to heat the rsx). I think I will be successful as the model that is Cechk has a 65nm RSX. I will share the progress. Thanks for your videos.
PLEASE make more videos you are REALLY REALLY good at it

Gonna have to rewatch this at least 100 times. Respect! awesome video. ❤ i hope you are working on videos for ps3#3 and #4 etc lol
I like this series so much I subscribed
can't wait for more stuff
Just discovered your channel. These videos are amazing. Enjoy your success!
ur my new favourite youtuber, i look forward to every video and am excited when i see the notification
The detail in your videos is detailed, factual and you are absolutely upfront about the BS surrounding the issue. If we had more people like you in the world we would have better outcomes instead of machines going to landfill.
Keep up the videos I'm really enjoying listening to your journey.
Absolutely legendary repair
Hell yeah, thanks for the video Felix, and of course thank you for all the time you have donated to helping everyone, including me, 🙂
Really enjoy your video, watched everyone of it multiple times.
18:10 kinda surprised how Bukalapak (kinda like indonesian eBay but hardly used vs tokopedia), pops up here.
i was fortunate enough to see your first upload while searching for random ps3 videos. been watching since and soo far i have to say i love the level of detail and research that goes into those. i hope you do more and keep uploading. and i hope you have great sucess ^_^.
you could record new episode of your obsession every single day and i'd watch evey one of them.
personal development, being stubborn, reallzing that you're actually wrong to the point where you can just sit back and enjoy TLoU.
MOAR
Felix , thank you for all your effort!! I really appreciate it.
Love these videos, keep them coming lad.
Excellent and hard work! I really appreciate it. Experience and wisdom are not bought, they are obtained over time. You got a new sub ☺️
Love this series of videos about the PS3 so much, you are a legend. Keep up the excellent work!
squeept is a legend, i've bought several tested CD drive lasers from him and they all worked like a charm.
I'm happy to say I've fixed two PS3 thanks to your info & PCBs you made.
However I'll like to know that both are ones that only got YLOD in games like "The Last of Us" but are PS2 BC models.
Nice!
I really loved this video, man I love old consoles.
Is PS3 old yet? Still feels on the edge of modern to me. But also I get that nostalgic feeling like I do with "Retro" consoles.
Hey man, it's been a while. I hope you're still at it, you're awesome and I love you.
I've been through a similar journey over the past year.
The triple beeps in this video kept giving me PTSD flashbacks. I am a broken man.
I see comments about posting more and quicker but if you do,it may overwhelm you and plus the content may not be up to par. You are doing an incredible job and I am proud of you, work at your own speed and pace:) I would rather wait for more content that is up to your standards then watch something that isn’t:) Amazing work tho:)
Just started the video, glad to see there's captions. Thank you!
also damn your sense of humour is on point, I hope you stick at this video thing
Perseverance and Patience are truly some of the best skills one can have
I couldnt understand half of it but MAN THAT WAS INTERESTING to watch! Well done
I was hoping there was enough to keep people engauged, even if the tech flew by at supersonic speed.
Never bought another console when I found your huge-ass post :)
Thanks, and again, well done
Mano isso é basicamente um documentário, muito obrigado por esse vídeo e seu trabalho é excelente
This guy avenged all of us that got the yellow light as kids
This video hits me on an emotional level. I bought my launch model day one, and yes, I got the ylod over a decade ago. I'm just waiting, hopeful that some passionate people with a very high skill set will come up with an actual answer after almost 2 decades of ylod. Ps3 is, imo, the greatest console ever made, and I'm just hopeful to get mine working again one day.
Very engaging content of a sometimes very dry topic. make more videos i want to watch them.
Watched this video for the 2nd time a month later, still great.
If you could make a video explaining the last cap setup you used to make it work that would be great so we can know their capacitances and their positions. Tks pal
Holy shit you actually attempted to reball, you’re a mad man 😂
I was given a 60gb that has the ylod.
Keep it up 👍
Insane the rabbit hole you went down, and I love it
And I can't even fix a short on a security camera I recently damaged 💀
Wow! Nice job! Fantastic vid!
Mad stuff my man. Love it 👍
The amount of patience you need to fix one of these is extreme.
This was an awesome adventure, thanks for the documentation
Good stuff. I'd love to see the troubleshooting and soldering live instead of photos sorta like other channels.
I didnt have the means then so when retelling it I hade to use illistrations.
Fascinating watch. You are a legend!
Your content and the journey you have been on. Is inspiring
