Nope. They are all similar. Speaker cab and mic placement matter so much more than the amp when it comes to significant differences in sound. And he used the same amp and cab every time. And mic and mic placement. Every single one of these would sound great in the hands of a good guitarist and recorded by a decent audio engineer.

    "Budget Low Watt Amp"
......[Mesa Engineering has left the chat]

  • @skydump
    @skydump 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

If your budget is a bit higher, for bedroom use I suggest just getting an attenuator, full size cab (I use a Marshall 4x12) and the amp of your choice, regardless of power. The attenuator will make it quiet. Far quieter than even a 1 watt amp. For example I use a Marshall studio classic (mini jcm 800) and Mesa Boogie Mark V 25, and with the attenuator I can make them both quieter than my laptop speakers, even with the JCM 800 dimed. The attenuator is the single best thing to come to guitarists in my lifetime. There’s nothing wrong with low wattage amps. Mine are. But some of the really low watt amps aren’t the best quality. So in practice the ones just a step above, in the 15-25 watt range tend to offer the best tone.

I used a Orange Micro Terror for rehearsal in the past. With a 4x12 it's loud enough to play over a drummer.
What's cool about the Orange Micro Terror is that you can go from the headphones out directly into a line in of your audio interface, add an IR and it sounds killer as the headphones out has no cab sim. You don't even need to connect a cab as a class D poweramp doesn't need a connected load.
Also a nice way to use the Orange (in a cleanish setting) is with an Earthquaker Devices Acapulco Gold and you get a Sunn Model T like doom machine!

The Monoprice 1w/5w Stage Right, and its big brother the 15w/1w 1x12 are spot on white label Fender Champ and Fender Deluxe Reverb with only perhaps a tube swap and a speaker upgrade keeping them from being ethereal. I got them on sake, and have less than $300 in some quality repros that Weber and Mojotone etc are selling for big bills. They use more modern electronics, you may find it desirable to swap tubes and re-bias the amp. I recommend pulling out the high power Super 8 and Seventy Eighty and replacing them with a Celestion Eight Fifteen and either an Alnico Blue or an Eminence Cannabis Rex. Better tubes are always good, but a speaker upgrade gives you the most noticeable move towards boutique Grade A amps while being significantly money ahead of buying or building a Champ or Deluxe Reverb clone. 10/10 would buy as many as I had room for if my wife wouldn't hide my body underneath them. If you can find these amps cheap, don't hesitate. They now sell a 30 watt all tube half stack that I believe is modeled on the Vox AC30 but haven't had the pleasure of checking out up close.
TL;DR: Buy the Monoprice/Stage Right amps. They are faithful vintage Fender circuits.

You should check out the Vox MV50 Clean/AC/Rock/Boutique/High Gain. These are hybrid-amps, so you have a 50 W class-D power-amp. The special thing about them ist the tube in the preamp-section. It is the so-called NuTube which is a for audio modified fluorescent tube like they were used in carradios. I own myself one and it is really awesome.
I myself really like that comparison and especially the Mooer and Joyo amps. These are just great amps. Being honest I never needed a big 100 W full tube-amp or even a 50 W one. If you're on a gig with a PA most of the time at some point the sound engineer wants you to lower your volume because your amp is getting picked up by the other mics on the stage.
So again thanks for the comparison Dan

Two flavours, the standard model and the MOD model, which adds a very useful bass contour control.Input socket, volume control, 4,8&16 Ohm speaker taps ( and bass contour on the MOD ) and that's it. A 12AX7 feeding an EL84 for great tones. Loud as Hades for a 5 Watt, well built with beefy transformers. The Micro Terror has a well known problem with it, though - the power supply for it is 2-prong, and it isn't grounded, which means that you can plug it into a grounded outlet and get a ton of noise and 60hz hum, and there's nothing you can do about it short of running a wire from the ground at the outlet to the case of the amp. I love the sound of the microterror, and it worked fine at our home in Arizona, but our new place has "noisy" outlets, and we don't have a single outlet where the Micro Terror doesn't wind up with some bad 60hz hum at the speaker. If you get the Micro Terror make sure that you order from someplace that has good return policies.

It's a real good amplifier especially for the rock tones and it can get really loud with a 2x12" cab, but it needs an overdrive pedal to boost the gain up a little bit for metal tones. It handles that really well. I have finally repaired my Bugera 6262 with my bare hands after such a long time and comparing both of them against each other, i must say this amp is really loud and good enough for clean + rock tones but it needs a real equalizer. The ISF thing on it is basically not good enough for me...

Have to agree with the BantAmp series of amps, my wife played a Blues fest using the BlueJay in front of 10,000 people and it was killer through a 1 x 12 Jensen box.
One other range to look at in this list is the Vox MV range, although not a traditional valve amp, the Nu-Tube uses newer technology to do the same thing, these are not modeling amps.
And if you want to spend a little more, look at the Joyo Beale Street, a Fender Tweed Deluxe 5E3 clone, it's great, and if you're in Australia, look at the Artist Guitars TweedTone 20R, it's AU$50 more then the Blackstar HT1 and it's got great Blues Jnr. type tones

Any chance on shooting out these for use as a bass amp? There is a total lack of valve amps in the lower wattage/lower price area of the bass amp market. Since (for that reason) most bassists use solid state combos for practice and recording something you could use as a pre-amp would be ideal.

I got the backstair ht 5 r I like it I just wished that the 3 band EQ would work on the clean. But you can get some clean on the gain channel by messing with the gain and volume.

Great demo! I’m looking for one with a warm clean tone and full tube if possible. Which would you recommend?
