I saw this video a little too late, just finished flushing my cooling system after adding the wrong anti-freeze. I'm one of those people who are allergic to reading manuals and so when i bought the concentrated anti-freeze, I did what you said one should not do, that is pour it directly into the reservior. Now my car is shaking, has lost power and the engine warning light has come on. Lesson learnt. Anyway thank you for the video, certainly educative.

Thanks for the helpful video! I've had a slow leak of coolant for a few months. Given that fixing the problem is quite expensive, I just keep a bottle of coolant in my car and top it off when necessary. I noticed my car starting to overheat while waiting in the drive thru today, but luckily I was very close to home. The temperature gauge was at the last white marking before the red marking. When I got home I discovered that my coolant bottle was almost empty, but I also wanted to make sure I added enough volume to get me to a store to buy more. My coolant is the pre-diluted 50/50 variety, but since I didn't have much left I diluted it with equal parts bottled water. I didn't have an distilled water and thought bottled water was probably better than tap, and I waited a few hours until the car cooled down before I added it. I know you can use straight water in emergency situations, so I reasoned that a 25% coolant solution was probably better than just water. Do you think that was ok??? I hope I didn't make things worse.

No, I think you did the best thing in that situation. Everything is better than getting the engine overheated.
In my opinion, there should be no damage but if you want to be 100% sure, change the coolant and call it a day. It isn't that expensive and it will give you peace of mind.
Of course, despite the cost try to solve the leak asap as these tend to get worse over time.
If you decide to leave the coolant that way, then make sure you check it with a coolant tester.

Hi and sorry for the late reply. I would best add diluted coolant (in that case two third coolant, one-third water).
Do the coolant check anyway so you're sure for the future.

@@nb9536 it really doesn't matter choose what's easier for you.
If it's just half a liter you have to remove then you can use the coolant tester and suck the coolant out.
It takes a bit more time but beats taking off the hose, clamps, or vents.
So concentrate is add water one ? And concentrated you can just put in without any water that is right ???

It's best to mix it with water first otherwise you may damage the coolant system.
Concentrated Coolant is 50 to 50 ratio. 1 Gallon of concentrated Coolant equals 1 gallon of Distill water hence 50:50 ratio.
Concentrate is not the added water. 50/50 ready to use is the one with added water

If all the coolant in the system is concentrated, yes, remove it all.
Otherwise, you may damage the coolant system like the water pump for instance or the car may overheat.

Yes, it should be OK if the engine hasn't seriously overheated and for a longer period of time.
If you have the chance, first mix the coolant in a separate container and check it with a coolant tester. Then pour it into the system.
Also, check for leaks afterward, just in case.

Whatever you do….whatever you do…DO NOT just mix the same colours believing this is safe, this is wrong information and you could potentially damage your cars.
Some Antifreezes are an IAT formulation that are yellow and some are yellow and OAT formulation.
YOU SHOULD AVOID MIXING IAT AND OAT FORMULATIONS, unless you like working on your damaged cars.

The first, which is safer, would be to flush the system, mix the concentrate, and refill the system again.
Or you can just start the car, hope for the best, and let the water pump do the mixing.
If you decide for the second, once you start the car rev it up from time to time.

This is ridiculous. Add some antifreeze, then add some water this super critical 50-50 is absolutely not required. Give me a break.
