Thanks man! ... Now I have the cleanest 1999 dodge Dakota coolant tank in town. My neighbors keep coming over to check it out and sometimes they take pictures..
I wanted to thank you. After several different levels of attempts, soaps, bleach, and had minimal success with acetone and bolts, I went to a home store and got some of your recommended sulfamic acid crystals ( in the flooring grout section). I mixed it to medium concentration in the tank, then again the next day at high concentration rate for the last little dirty patches inside of the tank. I did agitate it a few times to get the deep carbon builds and rust stains out, but just sitting overnight full did most of the work. Much improved! Greatly appreciate it.
For those who are asking, sulfamic acid can be bought at a hardware big box store in crystal form. It's normally used to clean rust and grout and mortar haze. A 1lb. tub of sulfamic crystals is less than $8. All you do is follow the instructions and dissolve it in water. Plastic itself is non-reactive to acids; that's why containers for acid products are made of plastic (and it's cheaper than glass and won't shatter). Plastic is engineered to be fairly resistant to many solvents, so you're not going to run into trouble with it being chemically damaged unless you start using things like acetone or paint stripper.
@@joaspereira5258 Or you could do what the video poster actually did, and just buy a new tank. The extra nipple fittings magically turned from brass to plastic. It is a fake video in an attempt to get views. It is ridiculous.
This is a good video missing some VERY crucial details. 1) what is the H3NSO3 Activator? Nowhere on here or the inter web can I find any details on what that is. 2) what is the concentration of the H3NSO3??? I just wasted $14 on some H3NSO3 for a translucent fuel tank cleaning with Zero results after 24 hours. I imagine a lot of other people are going to have the same results without this crucial detail. Is it 3/4 cup per gallon? Stronger or weaker. It would be easy to add what you used to the description. Thanks.

Excellent Info ! Since the Sulfamic Acid won't react to plastic, would this be an excellent way to clean a gas tank (a removed gas tank off a small vehicle), my 97 Altima has been sitting up so long with some gas in it, when I replaced the fuel pump (because it stopped working) the fuel pump stopped working because of varnish goo in the gas, so I have to remove the tank and clean it, scrub it actually, that is how thick the varnish film is, must be scrubbed. SiMa Mo. You are kidding right? I am not telling anyone to replace a part just because it is dirty. If you were so worried that the earth is going down hill why didn’t you mention something about the he chemicals that were being used to restore this plastic to its condition? And the fact that the appearance doesn’t hinder its ability to work properly? Hypocrite!
For replacement parts perhaps not worth it but I restore 50 year old cars and the overflow container has always been a tough one. Even NOS ones (if available) can be discoloured so I’m going to give this a try. While toxic in high concentration, Sulfamic Acid breaks down to benign compounds in the environment so it’s much less harmful than you would think, unlike the junk being flushed out.
@ the big picture. If your goal is form over function by all means soak 50 year old plastic parts in a mixture of acid/water. If quality parts cannot be found I think the next action should be making a quality component out of a different material. Nothing will irritate a customer worse than a split plastic cooling system component.
I can't believe you guys think it's a real result. The tank is obviously new at 2:22 you can see the difference. You can tell he added coffee or something to the water to make it look like the dirt was coming off. Please don't waste your time buying chemicals and potentially destroying a good part because it's dirty. If it lasted 15 years another new one will last another 15. Buy a new one online if you are cheap like me 😆
I enjoyed watching this and appreciate the work showing us all the steps. In my opinion it would be better to buy a new coolant expansion tank. It being clean and looking like new does not make the plastic new or stronger. This tank is still prone to cracking/leaking due to the heat cycles it has had throughout its lifespan. Buying a new tank will reduce the risk of your car leaving you stranded because it leaked out all its coolant.
On the other hand, buying a replacement for a perfectly serviceable part that will end up in landfill is bad for the environment. It's also not an option for older cars to just buy another when none are available.
@@j.cesarbraga Only around 9% of plastics are recycled. Most go in landfill. And what do you do when replacements are not available? Instead of being part of the throw-away culture, think about preserving and restoring.
Why haven't you responded to anyone's questions as to the mixture you used. So that others can get the same result. Thanks. And to the naysayers.....There are alot of vintage vehicles that you can not go out and buy a cheap chinese replacement ! Thumbs Up !
FWIW you can buy in powdered form at box stores and the instructions for mixture will be on back. Might be brand specific. Here is a link to the product there but you can also find the same stuff on amazon. .
I'm confiused about the ACID its use..is it ACID that we use to clean our floor?
Sulfamic acid, the stuff that cleans deposits from toilets
I can't believe you guys think it's a real result. The tank is obviously new at 2:22 you can see the difference. You can tell he added coffee or something to the water to make it look like the dirt was coming off. Please don't waste your time buying chemicals and potentially destroying a good part because it's dirty. If it lasted 15 years another new one will last another 15. Buy a new one online if you are cheap like me 😆
Es acido sulfámico, H3NSO3 se usa entre otras cosas para remover oxido.
Donde se consigue y si es tóxico

No adelgaza el depósito?

First video I’ve taken the time to comment and like in a long time. 👌🏽
It would've been helpful if there was some narration on what you used to clean it. No idea on what solutions were used.
So you just bought a new one. Cool vid dude.
Exactly! This guy is a fucking idiot if he thinks we believe that’s the same one
@@pistolpanda4582 he fool us
This felt like a cartel style cleaning
man that looks more new than brand new.. great work
Uses same acid as used in Lime-A-Way. Can this be used as a substitute if you have it on hand?
Google says it's same thing. Good call!
What brand of acid? And how did you dilute it? I need to do my reservoir this weekend.
Sulfamik asit H3nso3 yani zayıf sulfürik asittir
Sulfamic acid, also known as amidosulfonic acid, amidosulfuric acid, aminosulfonic acid, sulphamic acid and sulfamidic acid
The result is awesome!! Been trying ways to do that. I thought you've bought a new tank in this video~🤣
Just what I need. A new coolant reservoir with the dirty engine.
Vinegar wash the coolant passages
The dishwasher part was a great touch 👍👍
Thanks for this great video, have a question why did you tape the in and outlets first?
@E Double thanks a lot.
Putting the lid into acid would most definitely deform and knacker the rubber o ring seal. (Unless removed before hand)
Just saying like
No it doesn't. Brake fluid and solvents do that. I've soaked a lot of things in acid. Never had a rubber issue.
So where did you pour out the sulfamic acid remains ;p?
mother nature takes care of everything

I enjoyed watching this and appreciate the work showing us all the steps. In my opinion it would be better to buy a new coolant expansion tank. It being clean and looking like new does not make the plastic new or stronger. This tank is still prone to cracking/leaking due to the heat cycles it has had throughout its lifespan. Buying a new tank will reduce the risk of your car leaving you stranded because it leaked out all its coolant.
I agree. Waste of time and money. It's not an antique..
On the other hand, buying a replacement for a perfectly serviceable part that will end up in landfill is bad for the environment.
It's also not an option for older cars to just buy another when none are available.
@@mrdainase it's plastic, recycleable. You just need to throw it away correctly. Most car shops already do that.
@@j.cesarbraga Only around 9% of plastics are recycled. Most go in landfill.
And what do you do when replacements are not available?
Instead of being part of the throw-away culture, think about preserving and restoring.
I can’t find my 2013 coolant reservoir tank anywhere on earth
Why haven't you responded to anyone's questions as to the mixture you used. So that others can get the same result. Thanks. And to the naysayers.....There are alot of vintage vehicles that you can not go out and buy a cheap chinese replacement ! Thumbs Up !
Video is fake.
You can tell from a mile that the "restored" tank is actually a brand new one.
@@dan_6915 You're a blithering idiot if you think it's fake.
Vander's Garage and you have shit for brains if you think its real. Its obvious its a new tank.

FWIW you can buy in powdered form at box stores and the instructions for mixture will be on back. Might be brand specific. Home depot has it in 1 lb drums so you can probably read the label and figure out what you would need to make a gallon or 2. Here is a link to the product there but you can also find the same stuff on amazon. . The product is billed as a tile grout cleaner so I can understand why it would be useful to take off the scale deposit inside the bottle. I have a coolant tank of a motorcycle I will probably try it out over the weekend as well. Hope this helps you get the answer you needed. I know sometimes people post a video and never reply. it gets annoying. www.homedepot.com/p/Custom-Building-Products-Aqua-Mix-1-lb-Sulfamic-Acid-Crystals-050231/300176044
my wife would kill me if see me using HER dish washer for cleaning auto parts.
😂
Hahahahaha
Do that when she going in shopping.
You can make killer money restoring plastics ,but it's also a solid move by telling people what you did to get it clear
Great vid, which acid did you use when you put it in the tank though?Or what was that you used?
i have the same question
How many H₃NSO₃ - Sulphamic Acid Mixture you used to make mixture ?
All of it.
Gracias por el vídeo, podría decirme en qué proporción está mezclado? Muchas gracias.
que quimicos son esos ?
Well there’s six minutes I won’t get back.
I now know what it looks like, inside a dishwasher, during a cycle! Lmao 😅 That's awesome 👍 great video
My exact thoughts
That’s the first thing I did with my GoPro
It turned out so well the I suspected a new part was purchased and swapped for the “after”.
So thats how my plates feel when I wash them.
Waterboarding..
Bleach
Lol I always wanted to see what goes on in the a dishwasher
Specify the proportions in which you used these agents and how much time you soaked this tank is like new congratulations
Exactly I dont know what solution was used like you said how long to soak it i watched another video and he said soak it over night but this one had no words
Bel risultato complimenti, hai usato la candeggina?
Impressive result and something I will use restoring cars.
Thanks !
Now that you've made a clean spot, you now would have to clean the rest of the vehicle with the same process.
Sir how much quantity powder needed in 1 basket water?
Been cheaper to buy a new expansion tank
even cheaper without one.
an new expansion tank for my car is $120. The acid is $8 on Amazon
