Mary, please take some time to look at cardano, an open source decentralised blockchain. There is a content provider, Dapp central. He has a brilliant interview with a musician, who has some software in development called Newmn.
No flashing lights, no pyrotechnics, no warbling autotune, no miming, no revealing costumes, no dancers, no special effects - simply a great vocalist and a great guitarist in a natural setting giving a superb performance. Applause! 👏👏👏👏
My wife passed away two years ago and this song made it’s way onto my playlist I would listen to everyday walking. Mary, your version brought tears to my eyes. Thank you.
Beautiful voice and beautiful playing. I love Dire Straits and this is one of my abs favs. Tunnel of Love, Telegraph road, Romeo and Juliet, Brothers in arms is my top of the straits
How lovely ... No pitch correction, no auto-tune, just Mary Spender's natural sensibilities, with the perfect guitar accompaniment, splendidly catching the essence of the song with a deep-gal's warm--dare I say super-sexy--tone that makes this heart melt ... Thanks for that!
Mary's husky voice just works perfectly in this song. She's one of the few women who can pull it off. That was an amazing performance -- both guitar and singer! Loved it!!
Released 44 years ago. And on one of the first dates I went on with then to be wife back in 1980 we saw a short film of Dire Straits before the main feature at the cinema during which they played this and Sultans of Swing. This is one of the best covers I've heard. It amazes me that young people like you are still discovering and enjoying music from well before you were both born.
Mary, i know you are a singer songwriter but I wish you would do an LP or even EP of Dire Straits covers you sing them so well with your own spin on them.
Loving the lower register of your voice Mary. Very smokey and characterful and it makes the climb up and back at the end very special. As said elsewhere... brilliant interpretation and arrangement with no need for frills. 🦘
Mary, Dire Straits always seems so under appreciated. I have always loved this song; it’s so sad but beautiful. And you do it great justice. This is a great version and I think you for unlocking an old memory of younger days.
She's great.... Like the sultans of swing cover as well, frog leap metal version. Heard it for the first time driving back from Alabama after Christmas. Had to listen to it again and was pretty blown away.
Ms. Spender, I love your voice in this lower register. It can be difficult to differentiate notes down low. Your singing is very musical and precise. I enjoyed this as much as I did your collaboration with Rick Beato on Jim Croce's "Operator ..." Mr. Murphy, I congratulate you on your fine instrument and your fine skill. Tart cherry notes of steel strings contrasted with chocolate richness of contralto voice. What a lovely sensibility for a Sunday morning. Thank you.
Listening to this, I forgot the guitar was a steelie... so smooth, Nathaniel and Mary alike. And I finally caught the movie ref... Nino Rota was a legend in his time; I don't know if Mary will be a legend in hers but I hope so... though I hope above all that it's always as much _fun_ for her and her musical partners as it sounded like they were having there at the end...
This takes me straight back to a rainy day in 1978 when I bought this album....still IMHO Dire Straits' best album. But then you two take me back to the present with this enigmaticly beautiful rendition. Just two people playing in perfect harmony, and like you say, you've got it.
I love that you love Mark Knopfler. There's no better artist to follow and adore. I love him too. I can't imagine life without him. What an amazing artist!
Damn this version is good… Nathaniel, brother your playing has so much sensitivity and Mary your voice was a dream. Hope there’s more to come from you two :)
One of my all time favorite Dire Straits songs--this one and Tunnel of Love. Your voice does it *such* justice! Still need to get me a dobro--that and a banjo are two strings I ain't got in my collection. But aye gods, you knocked this one out of the park.
@@hansemannluchter643 Would you believe I'm 107? Naw, but I'm old enough to have been in London not long after "Sultans of Swing" came out. I'm so old (- how old are you?) that I can hardly discern that Swing is syncopated, it just sounds right to me.
Beautiful rendition of a fine song. They say Mark Knopfler tells a story and let's his guitar sing. Your version encaptured that style perfectly, holding your loveley singing voice back just so, soaring up only occasionally. I appreciate that we can actually understand the lyrics. I love what you do.
I am glad I took the time to read your newsletter today because it brought me to your channel to contribute with a third of a cent. I just left work and really needed to relax. What a great way to do it. Thank you both for sharing!
This is sooo good. Best interpretation of Romeo & Juliet ever. A great song, two great musicians, a brilliant performance. Please Please PLEASE make more music together. ❤
Love this DS song...great rendition, MS. Don't know the guitarist but he is excellent...good-looking too...think I'll stop now. Seldom are the lyrics written for a one-off from a classic listenable...this one was...modern-day update. ❤
Great stuff, beautifully done. While we're on the Straits, how about doing Down to the Waterline, or Lady Writer? Two more Knopfler masterpieces! Agree that Mary's husky voice works great on this song.
Mary.....this is what you were made for.....beautiful guitar behind and (at least for me) a story told with the emotion that makes the hair on my arm stand up.....:) This is what I strive for when I play.....
Wow! I've been following both of you for years and to see this collaboration was magical! You and Nathaniel should do lots more together you've both got Insane musicality and chemistry! You nailed it Bravo 👏🏻 🎸🤘🏻🔥🔥🔥
As Billy said, we love you just the way you are! My 2 cents, I think so many people enjoy vids of shows we can’t get to even shot with an iPhone. We all realize that it’s a poor substitute for being there, but without that exposure, or by extension YT or other social media, we’d be missing out on artists we’d otherwise never know about. I definitely would not want my son’s face plastered all over the internets, so I’m in 100% agreement on that (and he’s a drummer that has played on some decent sized stages). But I for one am grateful to see some shows I can’t get to, though I get to go to some live too. Happy Birthday, and again we love you brother! 🍻
Mary - this is the best bit I've ever heard you perform. What an awesome collaboration. So cool that you and Nathan treated this song with the reverence it deserves. A lot of emotion coming through. Ya'll gotta do more music together. Superb.
magic, this is truly one for the ages. transcendently bliss inducing, joy inducing love fest of majestic work of art, this is a masterpiece. thank you for sharing your extraordinarily beautiful performance with us Mary and Nathaniel. I believe that music as beautiful as you have made here, could cause world peace.
To be honest Mary, I’d forego playing the guitar if Nathaniel was in the room too! Amazing version of probably one of the all time British guitarists of our lifetime.
Absolutely brilliant! Mary this is you right back to the top of your form. Just stupendous guitar playing from Nathaniel. The combination of voice and guitar is magical. Keep it up and thanks for sharing!❤
Another lovely cover. The way you employ pitch and dynamics, sometimes boldly, sometimes with more reserve, but always in the service of the song. It’s like you have moved into a beautiful old house. You don’t have to rebuild it to still make it your own.
Au Naturale.. Sensual in nature but respectfully artistic.. As it should be.. Thank you Mary for your beautiful ballad singing, and Nathaniel for accompanying guitar.

Brilliant job ! An acoustic cover of Waster Years (Iron Maiden) would be lovely.

Thanks for having me Mary! Had a great time recording this.
What shall we do next?! 👀😂
You guys rule
Amazing version! Follow up? The song that came to me ( similar style), is 'Landslide' by Fleetwood Mac/Stevie Nicks.
An album? Please....
ANY & EVERY thing.
👍
A Chris Whitley song maybe... since you already have the resonator at hands.. ;)
No flashing lights, no pyrotechnics, no warbling autotune, no miming, no revealing costumes, no dancers, no special effects - simply a great vocalist and a great guitarist in a natural setting giving a superb performance. Applause! 👏👏👏👏
it was something special
...and no Mark Knopfler
My wife passed away two years ago and this song made it’s way onto my playlist I would listen to everyday walking. Mary, your version brought tears to my eyes. Thank you.
They live on in your honor of them, love is like that.
❤
God bless you my man ❤, sorry for your loss
"as long as we Love, our beloved lives on..." Blessings, brother..
This is Awesome,Mary ✌️and ❤
Mary and Nathaniel need to make a record together. Fantastic combination!
Beautiful voice and beautiful playing. I love Dire Straits and this is one of my abs favs. Tunnel of Love, Telegraph road, Romeo and Juliet, Brothers in arms is my top of the straits

Mark knopfler's Melody's aren't really that hard to sing because knopfler.
However, I agree that this is an awesome cover.
Mary's husky voice just works perfectly in this song. She's one of the few women who can pull it off. That was an amazing performance -- both guitar and singer! Loved it!!
I swear she's transposed it down...
@@johnbriggs3916only a whole step higher... which is pretty impressive!
The genius of Mr. Knopfler beautifully covered by Mary and Nathaniel.
Thank you so much.
I've always liked this song, and this is a terrific performance of it.

Mary has that silky smooth voice, love how she phrases the song and takes you on journey with her and Nathaniel. Well done!
Such a rich and sumptuous tone effortlessly punctuated by Nathaniel's whimsical finger picking. Sublime!
Loving the lower register of your voice Mary. Very smokey and characterful and it makes the climb up and back at the end very special.

Finally the most talented people on TH-cam are blessing us with a performance. Thanks guys!
Mary, Dire Straits always seems so under appreciated. I have always loved this song; it’s so sad but beautiful. And you do it great justice. This is a great version and I think you for unlocking an old memory of younger days.
The way he plays “a lot” of that song with no fingers on the fret board, just to make sure it looks that easy, makes me love her voice more!
The best thing Mary's done in awhile. Love it!
Understated elegance. Beautiful work, Mary and Nathaniel!

This was a huge hit when I grew up. Thanks for keeping it alive.
One of the best things I’ve ever seen on TH-cam. Honest talent.
Nathaniel is phenomenal!

What a beautiful cover and so cleanly played! He really makes it look effortless!
More Dire Straits covers! So good! Your voice fits these parts so well.

What a beautiful rendition of a wonderful song from both of you. And that Resonator is stunning.
What a fantastic rendition of this classic. So simple and yet so complex at the same time. Incredibly well done.
I love that you love Mark Knopfler. There's no better artist to follow and adore. I love him too. I can't imagine life without him. What an amazing artist!

I never knew this was such a beautiful song - hearing it with just the resonator guitar sounds very, very fresh!
Pardon me, but...
How old are you?
I'm old enough to remember the original release.

Mary does one of the best Dire Straits covers on this planet period

Oh man! Goosebumps and tears. Thank you so much from a long time Dire Straits fan!

Superbly sung, superbly played and above all else...... CHEMISTRY - One of my favourite songs done right :)
Ooh! What a lovely treat for a wintery Sunday.

Stunning. Just.... stunning.
They're both talented musicians and they're both beautiful humans. I hope they'll spoil us with more gems just like this one.
Gems, literally uncut. All live , just one take!
Covers are only good if they add something. This brings loads, well worth the effort and listen. Thanks for sharing this.
Great cover you two! Flawless guitar work and Mary's beautiful voice. Real music is so lovely!
Mark would be proud of this !!
Went to see him in toronto at the skydome, he hit all of em out of the park violining that guitar.
Great stuff, beautifully done. While we're on the Straits, how about doing Down to the Waterline, or Lady Writer? Two more Knopfler masterpieces! Agree that Mary's husky voice works great on this song.
Female husky voices always work!
Wow…God Bless you two. Thank you!
My, oh my... ❤Thank you! Bellissimo!! Beautiful, intimate, rendition. Chapeau. Applause 👏👏
Wow! @Mary Spender may be the best interpreter of Dire Straits songs
Finally, another Mary Straits cover! Lovley, low vocal register, and the guitar tone and attitude of Nathaniel's playing. Exquistite.
Mary.....this is what you were made for.....beautiful guitar behind and (at least for me) a story told with the emotion that makes the hair on my arm stand up.....:) This is what I strive for when I play.....
Simple, beautiful, a good moment for my ears.
A beautiful version of a beautiful song. And your voice is just so fitting for it.
What a perfect sultry voice for this song. Thank you.
Wow! I've been following both of you for years and to see this collaboration was magical! You and Nathaniel should do lots more together you've both got Insane musicality and chemistry!

Brilliant cover by two very talented people. Thank you both for this song.
Man what a voice.
Being a big DS fan, this version gave me chills! Thank you Mary!
This is fabulous Mary (& Nathaniel) and like others have said, perfectly suits the timbre of your voice. A lovely surprise for Sunday afternoon. ❤
Great song. Never heard it before. And I love Nathaniel's strikingly original and well-played guitar part. Well done.
Oh, my goodness!! That was lovely! Well done, Mary and Nathaniel!!
Mary - this is the best bit I've ever heard you perform. What an awesome collaboration. So cool that you and Nathan treated this song with the reverence it deserves. A lot of emotion coming through. Ya'll gotta do more music together. Superb.
I've been a Dire Straits fan for literally about 40 years, and I never realized quite how good this song was until I heard you sing it just now.
Really lovely, beautiful voice and guitar playing
wonderful playing, singing, and delicious arrangement. Mary, your silky, velvet voice is something so special. Thanks so very much
I think these are some of my favorite videos on your channel. Your voice with the guitar. This is you ‘bread and butter!’ Thanks!
Gotta love Mary. She has pure, raw talent. Just a guitar and a song. She never disappoints.

That was beautiful , Mark would be proud of that
Such a beautifully understated guitar performance at the beginning sets the scene for a fine ending . Taste and style aplenty in this performance.
One of my all-time favorites, especially the live version on Alchemy
Fabulous.
This just blew me away. This is one of my favorite songs of all time… and you just blew it away!
Very nice. Often all that's needed is one guitar, and one voice. I like the subtle swing feel, which is a little less formal than the original.
Great song. Enjoyed your version. I've always enjoyed when the Indigo Girls do it, as well. Cool choice for a video.
So you got the essence!!!
With all its faults, long live YT! Without it I never could have enjoyed this beautiful, beautiful version.
btw: nice guitar
You two should seriously consider creating a duo! Beyond AMAZING!
What a lovely collaboration! Nathanial's videos with CME are fantastic!
A stunning rendition of a rock classic. Awesome.
Brilliant, your smoky voice and equally smoky looks are just perfect for this song Mary
Another lovely cover. The way you employ pitch and dynamics, sometimes boldly, sometimes with more reserve, but always in the service of the song. It’s like you have moved into a beautiful old house. You don’t have to rebuild it to still make it your own.
Wow, that was great! One of my favorite Dire Straits songs, wonderfully covered.
This was a real pleasure to hear that!! Two of my fav Tubers and perfect chemistry. Bless you both. Thank you!!!
One of, if not my absolute favorite, Dire Straits songs. What a lovely rendition - absolutely stunning! Well done, the both of you!
Mary - you tone and pitch control singing at such a low register was sublime. Very good remake by you two. Bravo, bravo!
One of my favourite songs of all time, and you guys did such a wonderful job. Absolutely love this, thank you.
Au Naturale.. Sensual in nature but respectfully artistic..
As it should be..
Thank you Mary for your beautiful ballad singing,
and Nathaniel for accompanying guitar.
Nice song selection and pairing of instrumentalist and vocalist. Well done…you kept it simple.
There is magic in that part of your vocal range, Mary. Could listen to it all day.
Remarkable take on a great song with a whole new dimension added. Not an easy task. Well done.
