I have been around Andy for 5 years at the Woodshed Guitar Experience and with him on Patreon for 1.5 years. He is hands down the best teacher, coolest dude, gives so much of himself for others and incredible player! To see him up there w Eric Johnson, Andy Timmons, Joe bonamassa, Brent mason, Steve Morse, mark letteiri, etc and he shines! He is a wealth of knowledge but has a huge desire to keep growing and learning. He is a joy and blessing to world!
I remember perfectly when I heard Steve Morse for the first time, near the beginning of his solo career. I was floored. The fluidity, the combination of artistry, compositional variation, actual song construction, and note selection to evoke emotion. I don't think I had ever heard a guitarist do that on a "guitar album". He wrote songs, that happened to be lead by guitar voices. I smiled widely when Andy played Steve to demonstrate how to play fast (and the difference in the mechanics). It never occurred to me that Steve played fast. I didn't care. I certainly didn't listen to him for that reason and I have no shortage of appreciation for technical skill. Sometimes these artists put all the pieces together in magical ways.
I think one of the most underrated insanely talented guitarists today is Uncle Larry. I mean he's not a spotlight name he's a session man but his presence online since Covid began is making his name for him.
Yes, Tim, Andy, Uncle Larry , Jeffery are all amazing players! They all have one thing in common, that intense fire that burns inside, can't be put out! You hear it when they talk about guitar and you feel it when they play!!!
Brent Mason is as good as it gets and has been for many years. I always appreciate that he is a regular participant in the annual Jerry Reed tribute in Nashville along with Tommy Emmanuel, my old friend Richard Smith and many others.
Love that Woodshed Compressor! Accidentally fed it the wrong voltage and it fried. I immediately bought another. It hasn’t been supplanted by any other comp yet. And I’ve got them all.
Back when I was a local venue audio engineer in Knoxville, TN I used to have the pleasure of working with Andy quite a lot. Watching his career evolve over the years has been awesome. He is genuinely one of the nicest guys I worked with and a hell of a musician. He used to rip up some Van Halen back in the day. He also kills it on mandolin. It's so awesome to see you profiling him. Thanks!
Nick Johnston is the same - incredible ability but focuses on composition and beautiful guitar playing. I used to have the original Andy Wood Suhr - (black and silver one), lovely guitars - always wanted the whisky barrel one - it's so cool!. Andy's chickin' picking is incredible too. Great player
Andy Wood is the man; you don't get your own signature model out of Suhr unleass you are a fret demon. All Suhr artists - Nieri, Thorn, Ivanyi, Asato - could easily be categrized as 'might be the best'. They are all neck wizards.
Tim, i love hearing about any guitarist that you like, no matter if they are fast, slow, complicated, sloppy, a one trick pony or a jack if all trades. So there is absolutely no need for you to also choose this TH-cam path of viewing music as some kind of competition ;)
I cannot "like" this enough. Thanks for introducing me to another great player... but also a great musician. He is one who "gets" that it is the music and has the musicality as well as the chops to shred when the song calls for it. And he knows when that "when" is.
Tim - I'm ashamed to admit that I'd never heard Andy Wood before this video... suffice to say I'm an instant convert! Thanks for showcasing him! I've just ordered Charisma on CD. 😎
Andy's such a diverse player. He makes those six strings sing no matter what he's playing. Up there with the best of the best. Speaking of Tim, you ever have a chance to meet or jam with Michael Lee Firkins? Another stellar player that I always felt didn't get enough recognition. Anyhow, great video and thanks for helping to put players like Andy's light on a hill. Cheers!
Tim it would be absolutely awesome if you would be one of the guest performers at the woodshed guitar experience in 2025! It would be great to see you give a class in the format, you’d love it!
No bursts in the beginning, slowly build up to it, make them wait for what they really want ... soooo, Tantric Guitar? 🤣🤣🤣 Let's all take a moment to acknowledge Tim's virtuosity in just playing alongside each track even the fast licks, like a cakewalk for him to do so. It's like he's walking on the beach licking an ice cream whilst blowing us away. Tim is the man!
Junktown is a great record as well, Andy wears his influences on his sleeve, and then does great things with it. And for consistently, like Zakk Wylde btw, referring to 'King Edward', that's bonus points :-D
My goodness, I wasn't familiar with his work. Just listened to Rooster and dang, that rendition is superb. Thanks so much Tim for sharing this. Found a new artist to enjoy. Well done!!!
Thank you very much for sharing this, his version of Rooster is phenomenal!
Andy is getting the recognition he definitely deserves.
Tim, your humble nature and incredible guitar playing is what makes us keep coming back.
Sounds like Rooster Jam by AIC.
down to the wah I'd add..
It’s a reinterpretation for sure
Thinking exactly the same thing
Andy covers "Rooster" on his "Charisma" LP.
Exactly…
Tim = Class Act!

Much love brotha!
I met Andy at a gig and hung out during soundcheck. He was a gem.
That greasy verse tone Andy gets is fantastic!
Thanks Andy and Tim. Good luck to all entering the pedal contest.
That practicing it and polishing it at speed is about the best tip I've ever heard.
Yeah, me too :)
I loved that he used "Too Many Notes" by the Steve Morse band to illustrate this fact..! And he nailed that the part of it he highlighted.
Thank you for spotlighting Andy Wood. He’s one of my favorite artist. I highly recommend his Patreon. I also own all his guitars. They’re the best

Awesome, Tim! Andy is the man. Stoked to see his star on the rise!
Cool to always see such great players in the comment section, showing respect for others.
Never heard of Andy Wood before…thanks for introducing me, Tim. Wow. 😮
Thank You Tim, I was unaware’s of Andy Wood. Downloading his albums now. Thanks Andy too. Keep it coming!
Andy is a phenominal player and super humble guy. Deserves all the praise in the community.
Couldn't be more excited to see Andy getting the well-deserved recognition! In addition to musicality and chops, his ear is insanely incredible.
Andy is my favorite guitarist. I've got to meet him twice. He's a down to earth guy, humble, and a great teacher too.
I think one of the most underrated insanely talented guitarists today is Uncle Larry. I mean he's not a spotlight name he's a session man but his presence online since Covid began is making his name for him.
He gets my vote.
I love Bukovak.
Yes, Tim, Andy, Uncle Larry , Jeffery are all amazing players! They all have one thing in common, that intense fire that burns inside, can't be put out! You hear it when they talk about guitar and you feel it when they play!!!
Wow, he nailed Steve Morse's Tumeni Notes right there!
Brent Mason is as good as it gets and has been for many years. I always appreciate that he is a regular participant in the annual Jerry Reed tribute in Nashville along with Tommy Emmanuel, my old friend Richard Smith and many others.
Brent is my childhood hero. Tele GOAT for sure
Andy Wood, Andy Timmons and Dann Huff, great time to be a music lover/guitar player.
Tim I knew you were going to say Andy Wood before you even said it. It's so refreshing to hear great guitar virtuoso again! Thanks for doing this.
What a cool guy, I'm embarrassed to say I've never heard of him. Andy talking about Carlos Santana gave me those good chills. Thanks Tim!
Couldn't agree more!
Go to the woodshed guitar experience next year, he gives classes and performs with some of the best guitars in the world!
Tim told me I WAS the bestest guitar player that is currently sitting on my couch.
Ha! That's all of us....:)
I’m still in bed. Looking at one of mine. Wondering? Ah well … need to go pee.
Better yet.
Get out of bed first.
Hell, I'm not even the best guitar player in my house.
You are buddy! I'm the best guitar player sitting in my chair!
Don't let him fool you, that's Quentin James!
I wish TH-cam had a 1/4 Speed 😀 Thanks a million Tim for highlighting these awesome players for us! 🎸🎶
It does.
This has been my workout jam album since it dropped. Andy is so versatile and thats what makes him so awesome imo
I've been following Andy for quite some time (Patreon). He truly is one of the very best!
He's an amazing guitar/mandolin player, and you ain't too shabby yerself!!!
Love that Woodshed Compressor!
Accidentally fed it the wrong voltage and it fried. I immediately bought another. It hasn’t been supplanted by any other comp yet. And I’ve got them all.
That was a really GREAT interview. Two of my favorite guitarists, sharing information and inspiration. Time to go practice! Thanks Tim and Andy!!
Love your channel and your musicianship, Tim! Thanks for introducing me to Andy's music!
Love this guy. Thanks Tim!
I learned about Andy Wood from a Troy Grady video a few years back. His playing just blew me away and hooked me in from the start
Two of the best going today folks......Tim and Andy.
Solid advice from Andy and yourself.
Andy can play just about anything. Monster guitarist
Andy getting the praise he more than deserves. That's really nice of you, Tim
Myself and a whole bunch of other music lovers DON’T disagree with you on this one Tim. Andy inspires the inner melody in all of us.
Andy is also god-like on flat top acoustic and mandolin. He grew up as a prodigy bluegrass player before getting into electric.
Great walkthrough, Tim. Thanks.
Song creation is all about the song. Probably what makes David Gilmore stand out. This guy is killin' it. Thanks Tim. As always, a great time.
definitely one of them...all around magnificent technique and phrasing
That was GREAT! Thank you for sharing ❤
"Free Range Chicken" with a Plymouth Superbird in the background. Nice. Thank you Tim for this video and introducing me to Andy. I got chills.
Loving him playing "Tumeni Notes" by Steve Morse at 7:00.

This is sick. Glad you shared; I'd never heard of him.
Love the Brent cameo! Legend!
Thanks Tim!
Thanks for watching!
@ Repeat offender! Proud to say Andy y Ben are locals.
Awesome video Tim! Thanks man
I totally agree, Andy is truly a really amazing, allround guitar player.
Andy Wood is the man; you don't get your own signature model out of Suhr unleass you are a fret demon. All Suhr artists - Nieri, Thorn, Ivanyi, Asato - could easily be categrized as 'might be the best'. They are all neck wizards.
Such outstanding awareness and intuition. A reflection of character development. Thanks, Tim and Andy!
oki, I know this video is about Andy Wood, but DANG that solo by Brent Mason - I gotta look this guy up, he's on🔥!
Tim, i love hearing about any guitarist that you like, no matter if they are fast, slow, complicated, sloppy, a one trick pony or a jack if all trades.
So there is absolutely no need for you to also choose this TH-cam path of viewing music as some kind of competition ;)
At 3:20, if Andy was wearing glasses, you two could have been twins. lol
Ha, Uncle Ben Eller. "Playin' at step-dad speed"... nah, Ben's cool. Love the over the shoulder look in the garage at Andy's solo.
Awesome! Thanks!
I cannot "like" this enough. Thanks for introducing me to another great player... but also a great musician. He is one who "gets" that it is the music and has the musicality as well as the chops to shred when the song calls for it. And he knows when that "when" is.
Thanks Tim, fantastic interview with Andy
Andy is a great player and a great teacher.
Love seeing the Brent Mason shoutout. Played a few sessions with him. Absolute monster!
Steve Morse lick was awesome 6:55

Andy Wood is hidden gem. I’ve been a fan since he was in Down From Up. Dude can absolutely burn.
I love watching his Woodshed videos.
Awesome video yet again. Thanks Tim!!
Andy's such a diverse player. He makes those six strings sing no matter what he's playing. Up there with the best of the best.

Tim is the man!
Just wow, speechless!
Andy is an absolute monster of a guitarist. Great musical mind.
Andy is a phenomenal player. I'm definitely happy to see him getting some widespread recognition lately as well as the Grammy nomination for Charisma.
Gorgeous guitar! Entered contest. Thank you.
i recently became aware of andy wood. he is a phenomenal talent.
Junktown is a great record as well, Andy wears his influences on his sleeve, and then does great things with it. And for consistently, like Zakk Wylde btw, referring to 'King Edward', that's bonus points :-D
Andy is a real nice dude and scary good musician. Always serves the song.
My goodness, I wasn't familiar with his work. Just listened to Rooster and dang, that rendition is superb. Thanks so much Tim for sharing this. Found a new artist to enjoy. Well done!!!
Great Video, Thankyou 🎸🎶🎸
Wow. Great video Tim.
Thanks for bringing Andy to my attention. I agree completely, it's all about the song; too much shred spoils things.
I don’t even play guitar but really enjoy your smiling voice and amazing playing!
He’s awesome!! Good video Tim 🎸
Andy is a class act
Excellent video! Other videos of the same type with other guitarists would be excellent, too. Thumbs up, of course!
