I know he's depreciated in vocal quality in his later years with age, but James LaBrie of Dream Theater should at least have a mention because his in the 90s to mid 2000s was unmatched!
Great to see Michael Kiske here, giving Power Metal exposure. Also great Eric Adams is included. Of course Bruce Dickinson, Rob Halford and Ronnie James Dio are here at the top. What more I can include those not in the honorable mentions: Timo Kotipelto, Yannis Papadopoulos, Daniel Heiman, Kai Hansen, Fabio Lione, Matthew Barlow, Stu Block, Joacim Cans, Thomas Winkler, Tobias Sammet, Joakim Broden, Tarja Turunen, Floor Jansen, Attila Dorn, Udo Dirkschneider, George "Corpsegrinder" Fisher, Burton C Bell.
Very impressive list with 2 surprises !! Moanowar and Helloween. I would of picked singer of Racer X. It is a great clip of Take Hold... I never get tired of that song and the live clip is a bonus ! Cheers mate ! Thank you.
I'm surprised Tate wasn't a top 3. He is currently still in peak vocal condition unlike others that drop off as age takes place. Also, no Warrel Dane fans? He definitely needed to get on this list. Glad Chuck made it.
@Troy Lad yes he can not sing like he did in 1984, he did take a dip for a few years and as they have all aged. But I have seen some videos of him over the last year and had improved a lot and even still can sing better now than half the singers above him on the list on their best days.
I don´t debate the list, just like to mention the following: Klaus Meine, Mike Howe, Floor Jansen, Tatiana Shmailyuk, Ghaal, Corpsegrinder, Mikael Akerfeldt, Maynard James Keenan. Dammit, I wouldn´t want to pick a top 10. Good that I don´t have to choose 🙂 Edit cause I just saw the honorable mentions. Shame on me I forgot about Peter Steele and Hansi Kürsch.
The urge to skip up to the end of the video was very hard to resist. 😆 If you've got to come in second and third place to someone it might as well be a fellow legend like DIo. I'm very glad I got to see them all back in the day. 🤘 Thanks for doing this!
Glad to see Kiske on this list. He is my favorite. To hear some of his best stuff, just check out A Tale That Wasn't Right and Your Turn, especially the bit after the solo. Out of this world. This is a great list, also considering that some of them are not that famous compared to others. Dio is the Freddie Mercury of heavy metal so he definitely deserves the no 1 spot.
1. Ronnie James Dio 2. Russ Anderson 3. Rob Halford 4. Tony Martin 5. Bruce Dickinson 6. Geoff Tate 7. John Bush 8. Eric AK 9. Maynard James Keenan 10. Milo (Deathrow)
Dio sang with every ounce of his soul, to the last breath. The father of power metal vocals. I’d also give a shout-out to the great Jeff Scott Soto. His work with Yngwie, Journey, the rockstar film, and Sons of Apollo- amazing vocalist…
A good list a couple of suprises. My personal 1) Dio 2) Blackie Lawless 3) Bruce Dickinson 4) Rob Halford 5) Geoff Tate 6) Phil Anselmo 7) Chuck Billy 8) Ozzy 9) Joey Belladonna 10) Bon Scott
Good compilation, but there's a little bit fan voting in, I think. Dio, Halford, they're awsome, for sure 🤘 In my opinion they should be followed by (in alphabetical order) King Diamond, Bruce Dickinson, Michael Kiske. I would like to see Geoff Tate next. But that's my list, not more not less.
John Bush got my vote...His voice is recognisable powerful dynamic and criminally underrated even almost 40 years in the business he is still going strong. Check out Sound of White Noise or Symbol of Salvation
Is this a popularity contest...I guess it is, otherwise Klaus Meine would have to be here (in his prime he'd have to be considered near the top). It's Greatest metal vocalists, right? Peter Steele has to be included too. Geoff Tate should probably be #1, but he didn't have the longevity as compared to some of the others. Others that weren't included could probably take over some of the top spots...Ian Gillan, Devin Townsend, Maynard James Keenan. Is Mike Patton a metal singer? (probably considered alternative/rock, hard rock?) I suppose you could make another list for the screamer, growler singers too! There are too many styles to consider to make a general top ten list. If this is the great singers...then it definitely misses the mark.
The list needs to be 20. Blackie Lawless, Bobby Blitz, Paramore McCarty from Warrior, Mark Oseguera, Rob Reinhardt, Eric Knutson, and a few more should in the running. There are so many different voices to choose from.
I hadn’t listened to Queensryche yet and Geoff Tate’s voice reminded me so much of David Wayne’s (early Metal Church) which I love, so beautiful. Also shoutout putting Chuck on this list because anyone that doesn’t listen to any kind of metal would probably not consider him a “great vocalist” 😂 but for his genre, he really was one of the best. Another wicked video Ruthless! 🤘
yeah, Chuck is one of the best voices in extreme metal for sure. Geoff Tate is a legend, maybe even the greatest vocalist of all time at least technically.
Warrel Dane, Geoff Tate, and King Diamond are always tied for #1 in my book. One will have an edge over the other two when I am listening to that particular singer. Dane is the greatest singer in history that nobody really knows, or has heard of, in my opinion.
I think it's a nice list! The top 3 is pretty obvious - to be honest the vote wouldn't have any credibility if not they are on the top 😉. I'm pleasantly surprised by the high rank of Chuck and especially Lemmy, who were damn good and special in what they did 👍. I was also pleasantly surprised by the high rank of Kiske, since I think the German musicians are often underappreciated in the Anglo-Saxon world. As the matter of fact, other German singers, like Udo, Kai, Mille or Ralf are the ones who I think are missing - but this list is a subjective public opinion, so you can't really argue with it. 🙂
Without a doubt, Ronnie James Dio! Dio is not only the best metal singer, but also the best vocalist that I've ever heard, Bar none! Thee only vocalist that can transpose effortlessly from an angelic whisper into a lion's roar all in one phase is the little Giant RJD and none other.....! RIP Little Giant.
@@Stefan- Thanks. I love metal, but I also listen to just about every other form of music out there; from Salsa to Opera. And I've yet to hear another vocalist with Dio's versatility and fluidity! But... That's just my humble opinion.

I already knew the top 3 would get lots of votes, so I wanted to vote for someone a bit less obvious (the same I did with the rest of votes), and one of the things that made me decide for King Diamond is how freaking good his voice is still despite of his age. I can't say the same for Eric Adams or Rob Halford, but Bruce Dickinson's voice also seems to be ageing quite well. #6. Chris Cornell
#7. Layne Staley
#8. Thomas Vikstrom
#9. Jorn Lande
#10. Russell Allen
Cheers!
I know he's depreciated in vocal quality in his later years with age, but James LaBrie of Dream Theater should at least have a mention because his in the 90s to mid 2000s was unmatched!
Images and Words have some of the craziest high notes. His sustain and vibrato were also top-tier. Such a shame that he's not as good as he used to be
Unmatched??? YOU'RE SO WRONG DUDE!!! Don't get me wrong James Labrie is awesome but he's no Geoff Tate or Dio or Bruce Dickinson!!!
@@torybrown7730 James in Learning To Live, Another Day, and Take The Time was unreal! I'll stand by that till the day I die!
cheers!
@@TheBlackQueen Putting James in ANY time period over Bruce, Dio, Halford, and Tate is pure heresy.
I had geoff Tate #4 at least. dudes vocal range is insane. but damm good list.
Cheers!
I voted Rob but you can’t argue with that top5
Cheerios!
Cheers!
King Diamond is the only vocalist whose voice has improved over the years🤘👑🤘
HAIL TO THE KING 🤘👑🤘
yeah true legend! Cheers! 🤘
Right on
Very impressive list with 2 surprises !!
Moanowar and Helloween.
I would of picked singer of Racer X.
It is a great clip of Take Hold...
I never get tired of that song and the live clip is a bonus !
Cheers mate ! Thank you.
Yeah, the take hold of the flame clip might be the best vocal performance ever by a human. Cheers!
Geoff Tate is freaking incredible. I love Queensryche so freaking much!
Cheers!
Hi...have you ranked the UDO albums yet?.....would love to see that!!!
nope, I haven't heard that many of 'em.
@@RuthlessMetalYT ..
.you NEED to check out his solo stuff.....he has a lot of solo material out and it KICKS ASS!!!!!
I'm surprised Tate wasn't a top 3. He is currently still in peak vocal condition unlike others that drop off as age takes place. Also, no Warrel Dane fans? He definitely needed to get on this list. Glad Chuck made it.
People arent as familiar with Queensryche as they are with Maiden and Priest, so that's always the problem with a vote like this. Cheerios!
Warrel Dane is top notch during his Sanctuary days no doubt..maybe a second list needs to be made for all other vocalists not in top dollar bands.😎
Geoff Tate can't sing anymore, come on now.
@Troy Lad yes he can not sing like he did in 1984, he did take a dip for a few years and as they have all aged. But I have seen some videos of him over the last year and had improved a lot and even still can sing better now than half the singers above him on the list on their best days.
@@kellybarthel8060 I had seen him do mindcrime a few years ago and he absolutely nailed it. Seeing him next week do rage and empire too. Can't wait
Finally I see Geoff Tate in the list of greatest vocalists.
Cheerios!
Good that I don´t have to choose 🙂
Edit cause I just saw the honorable mentions. Shame on me I forgot about Peter Steele and Hansi Kürsch.
Cheers! 🤘
I'm a bit surprised that Hansi Kürsch didn't make it into the list, but the top 3 were more or less clear.
Cheers!
Had to scroll a while to see if he was even mentioned in the comments. He's easily top 5.
Another honorable mention, if I may. Lizzy Borden.
Cheers!
One of my personal favourites too! Also old skool Don Dokken, and Ron Keel.
I would’ve included Mike Patton and Chino Moreno, but I guess this was a more classic list, valid list tho
Mike Patton is a beast and so versatile
@@jaytracks the man of the 1000 voices, the guy is a crazy genius
Cheerios!
@@RuthlessMetalYT cheers!!
An extremely underrated hard rock vocalist is Phil Freeman from the band Small Town Titans, his voice is absolutely phenomenal.
Cheerios!
Love Queensryche!
The urge to skip up to the end of the video was very hard to resist. 😆 If you've got to come in second and third place to someone it might as well be a fellow legend like DIo. I'm very glad I got to see them all back in the day. 🤘 Thanks for doing this!
yeah, seeing dio is certainly one of the highlights in my life as a metal fan.
Cheers!
1. Ronnie James Dio
2. Russ Anderson
3. Rob Halford
4. Tony Martin
5. Bruce Dickinson
6. Geoff Tate
7. John Bush
8. Eric AK
9. Maynard James Keenan
10. Milo (Deathrow)
solid list! Cheerios!
Dio sang with every ounce of his soul, to the last breath. The father of power metal vocals. I’d also give a shout-out to the great Jeff Scott Soto. His work with Yngwie, Journey, the rockstar film, and Sons of Apollo- amazing vocalist…
Cheers!
Michael Kiske should be higher on the list, he is fantastic.
great vocalist for sure.
missing was Jon Oliva of Savatage and John Bush of Armored Saint
Yes, lot's of good ones. Biff Byford and David Wayne as well.
yes!
Awesome picks!!! 😃👍
Cheers!
People laugh - or think I’m kidding - when I say Brian Johnson’s my favorite❤
Cheers!
Hahahahaha!😊
👁️ consider him hard rock, but yes, that man can sing his ass off. Axl 🌹 now knows that.
🤘AC⚡️DC🤘
A good list a couple of suprises. My personal
1) Dio
2) Blackie Lawless
3) Bruce Dickinson
4) Rob Halford
5) Geoff Tate
6) Phil Anselmo
7) Chuck Billy
8) Ozzy
9) Joey Belladonna
10) Bon Scott
Cheerios!
#1 just HAD to be either Dio or Rob Halford
yeah it was unevitable or Dickinson. Cheers!
Dickinson as well
Good compilation, but there's a little bit fan voting in, I think. Dio, Halford, they're awsome, for sure 🤘 In my opinion they should be followed by (in alphabetical order) King Diamond, Bruce Dickinson, Michael Kiske. I would like to see Geoff Tate next. But that's my list, not more not less.
Yes he should be higher
Is Graham Bonnet a metal vocalist?
I've allowed some hard rock vocalists. :) Cheers! 🤘
I can't argue with the top 3 Dio Halford @ Dicknson
Cheers!
John Bush got my vote...His voice is recognisable powerful dynamic and criminally underrated even almost 40 years in the business he is still going strong. Check out Sound of White Noise or Symbol of Salvation
Totally agree, for me he improved Anthrax back in the day!
Cheerios!
Yeah definitely. Both of those albums are perfect 10s.
(probably considered alternative/rock, hard rock?)
I suppose you could make another list for the screamer, growler singers too! There are too many styles to consider to make a general top ten list. If this is the great singers...then it definitely misses the mark.
Yes, that's the problem with voting. That's why we have a f*ed up world. haha
Geoff Tate is absolutely amazing!
yes! Cheers!
My Top 3 Metal Vocalists -
1. Bruce Dickinson - Iron Maiden
2. W. Axel Rose - Guns N'Roses
3. Sebastian Bach - Skid Row
only 1 metal vocalist there though. ;) hard rockers the two others. hehe
@@RuthlessMetalYT True All Great Vocalists In Their Own Way
First time seeing eric adams getting the recognition he deserves
Cheers!
The list needs to be 20. Blackie Lawless, Bobby Blitz, Paramore McCarty from Warrior, Mark Oseguera, Rob Reinhardt, Eric Knutson, and a few more should in the running. There are so many different voices to choose from.
Cheers!
Thumbs up for David Wayne mention: one of the most underrated metal vocalists despite his incredible range. R.I.P.
@@llongone2 hard agree!!
Yeah David Wayne was excellent. Maybe even on a top 10 of all time.
a cool fact is David Wayne and Geoff Tate had the same voice teacher
Great list, interesting to see that all the top vocalists are from the 'classic' metal bands and none of the new ones got a mention.
yeah, the most known names always wins.
Warrel Dane, Geoff Tate, and King Diamond are always tied for #1 in my book. One will have an edge over the other two when I am listening to that particular singer. Dane is the greatest singer in history that nobody really knows, or has heard of, in my opinion.
Warrel Dane is quite popular, seen several comments about him but not top 10. :)
\m/ Sanctuary & Nevermore \m/ R.I.P.
yeah, definitely, cheerios!
Cheers! 🤘
@@RuthlessMetalYT 🎸🤘👍
Indeed, i couldnt have said it better myself ! 🤘🤘. Dio was a very expressive and versatile singer.
@@Stefan- Thanks. I love metal, but I also listen to just about every other form of music out there; from Salsa to Opera. And I've yet to hear another vocalist with Dio's versatility and fluidity! But... That's just my humble opinion.
The only one that can reach that level is Dino Jelusick
Not surprised at all by the top 3. Really happy that Michael Kiske made the list.
1. Ian Gillan
2. Ronnie James Dio
3. Jon Arch
4. Warrel Dane
5. Geddy Lee
6. Graham Bonnet
7. Joey Tempest
8. Michael Kiske
9. Eric Adams
10. Goran Edmond
Cool lis. Cheerios! I guess number 10 is Göran Edman. ;)
Great list! I’m surprised Ripper Owens didn’t at least get honorable mention though.
not sure if he got any votes at all, maybe 1-2. Cheerios!
I take back everything ive ever said about you...... Although i feel Eric Adams and the KING should be placed higher.
I didn't make the list though, it's the voters.Cheers!
@@RuthlessMetalYT Just kidding... Ive never really said anything about you lol Ill admit though, Giving the top 3... Im pretty satisfied with the top 5. ManOwaR KILLS!
Mostly predictable results, with King Diamond as a very welcome entry, Ozzy as an absurd one and Phil Anselmo as a wtf. I'd dare say even Randy would be reasonably satisfied
hehe. yeah. the most known names always gets on the list. :)
Tate should at least be #4, vocal range is insane!
Cheers!
Too bad some excellent vocalists such as André Matos or Daniel Heiman didn't even make to the top 30, but overall I think the list is quite solid.
Cheers!
I’m late to the party lol great vid!
I’ll just say my top 3
1 Bruce Dickinson
2 Zak Wylde
3 Tobias Forge (don’t hate me for this one Ruthless) 😅
Cheers!
