Judas is an zombie band, they die and revive a lot of times and it's insane that they really started to be awesome as f with British Steel then got down with point of entry, got back with screaming vengeance, got down with turbo, got back again with painkiller, got down bad with juggulator, then got back yet again with Nostradamus and got really back with Firepower and Invincible Shield now on, it's just absurd they are that long on the metal industry

@@KJtheEverblack in my opinion it's amazing how good some of the more, and then somehow miraculously bad some of them are.
Play some amazingly iconic covers, and then there is some of the incredibly bad ones: point of entry, Ram It Down (and everything after it done by Mark Wilkinson. His covers are so terrible it's bizarre Judas priest seems to like them).

I think something not enough fans realize when it comes to what has helped a band like Judas Priest grow as a band in their latter years is their attention, at least Rob particularly pays, to other bands and subgenres of metal that have sprouted up since Judas Priest began. Not that you’d ever hear a true death, black, or nu metal sound to their music, Rob specifically has cited bands like Behemoth, KoRn, and Emperor as influences on his music taste and in some ways inspirations when it comes to writing and recording material. He understands and respects the landscape of the metal genre and how versatile it truly is, something so many legacy acts absolutely refuse to do and falter creatively because of.

A lot of people dump on Point of Entry, and while it's not quite up to British Steel or Screaming for Vengeance standards, I still think it's a good album. Headed Out to the Highway seems like the song's protagonist has reached the point of utter nihilism, while Desert Plains evokes the image of a long night's ride to reunite with a long lost love. Don't Go, Turning Circles and On the Run are for me fun listens too. I think Metal Trenches guy is a bit hard on the album, but to each their own. We all choose our own favorites.

I really enjoyed invincible shield front to back listening on a drive home today, then immediately went to bionic records in Buena Park and purchased the LP. I loved how they took all the different colors they’ve done over the years with synths, 2&4 driving rock, a bit of early speed sound, and an overall great range of dynamics from track to track. Giants in the sky left me feeling super reverent in a sense considering what the lyrics are about. Ritchie really has brought some fire to this band. All respect to KK, but I’d argue with the past 2.5 records Ritchie Faulkner has really cemented his colossus into this band’s legacy. And most importantly I’m very glad that Glenn was able to throw down his guitar work. Grateful that they are putting out such amazing music

I think the only descending opinion I came away with here was Sad Wings of Destiny, I personally would put it at great tier at least. Other than that, I agree with your ranking for the Priest albums and now am super excited for the entire Invincible Shield album. I saw a 4-song EP of the singles released (probably not legit but at any rate) and listened to it a couple of times so I'm ready for the entire thing!
Interesting you mentioned Sabaton during your thoughts on Nostradamus, since they're having said band open for them this spring. Can't wait for the show in Youngstown!
Also, and I can't stress and emphasis this part of it enough, but at 72 it is truly incredible how great Rob sounds. He puts vocalists in the genre (or therefore adjacent ones) half of his age to SHAME!

As was your remark about recent Maiden. I love the first six Maiden albums, but i feel they've been overrated as fuck since. It baffles me that Maiden is the bigger band worldwide. Priest has been here longer, has more well known 'hits'(or at least classic rock/metal staples), have at least as many albums considered classics.
JP may have a couple more flat out turds, maiden have less F's, but more boring chores. The Blaze and Ripper eras equally sucked.

It's just a matter of where you came in with Priest. (Might have heard Breaking the law first, I'm not even sure if I did at that point. Sin after Sin was my first Priest album). Of course your ranking might be a bit controversial and there are a couple with which I agree and a couple with which I strongly disagree. Haven't heard Invincible Shield yet but the reviews and singles sound very promising. Firepower had a couple instant bangers but with just under an hour it was still a bit long... 2-3 songs less would have bumped it up even higher
Perfection: Sad Wings of Destiny (my favourite album), Stained Class, Screaming for Vengeance,
    Painkiller
Fantastic: Killing Machine, Sin after Sin, Defenders of the Faith (last third brings it down a notch for me)
    Great: Turbo, British steel, Firepower
Good: Redeemer of Souls, Point of Entry (Couple of duds on both but the songs I like I really like)
Okay: Angel of Retribution, Nostradamus, Rocka Rolla
Fun Bad: Ram it down (Don't know where else to put it - half of it I really like and half of it I can't stand)
Boring Bad: Jugulator, Demolition (Although Cathedral Spires is alright. But Demolition... more like DeNOlition)
