Pro Rider Gets Told the Truth About Her Riding! - Getting Critical With MGM

  • We can often get lost in self analysis and over-thinking each process as athletes trying to perfect a craft . Our goal for the “Getting Critical” series is to help each other improve by sharing insights and criticisms of what we notice in one another’s riding that might be hard to self-diagnose. In return, we hope to offer ideas and examples to help other people think about how they ride a bike or interpret a trail.
    In this episode Remi and Jesse follow Miranda down Credit Line and build her a “poop sandwich.” Offer a compliment, followed by what could be improved, sandwiched with another compliment. Miranda has a strong and solid body position on the bike, so while there are only a few small things she could work on there, the majority of the feedback is related to braking points and line choice.

    I love this channel... Though after seeing Jesse's bike yesterday I'm waiting on the video showing him testing those handguard on bushes and trees of varying sizes!
    Also, the humility of a WORLD CHAMPION rider continually looking to improve her game? Amazing!

      So far I think Jesse is 1-1 for handguards and tree.

    Miranda is sooo good! The critique was very helpful for me too. I've been having trouble with corners with brake bumps/root erosion on the outside/apex of the corner, like the second to last corner you helped Miranda with. I think I'm not scrubbing enough speed before the corner so I'm still braking as I go over them so I get bumped around and slow down too much. I'm often temped to go inside on these corners but instead I'll work on braking earlier because of this video. Thanks!

      We are glad to hear this video helped! It's something we always have to work on as we always want to go fast, sometimes going slow leads to going faster.

    • @MGMAlternative

      It's hard to be disciplined with braking points when it's tempting to carry speed into a corner- but it will pay off!

    This is soooo good! Corners are a personal struggle for me as you have to think about so many things at the same time, line choice, braking, body / bike separation and how all that feels in a micro second! So great to see how you guys break it down. Especially like Miranda's comments about forcing your brain not to brake in the bad spots! That's something I suffer from constantly! Awesome! Keep up the great vids! Brrraaap!

    • @MGMAlternative
      @MGMAlternative  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Glad we could help, it definitely takes forming habits for the smaller things so you can focus on the more important things in each specific corner.

    • @MGMAlternative
      @MGMAlternative  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Deliberate braking is maybe the hardest thing to master! So tempting to try and go a little bit later without braking... or maybe just drag the brakes, haha.

    Are you planning a Q&A? If you ever do I'd be interested to know how you keep focused and think about this stuff for a whole lap! I can pay attention for the big moves, or a corner or two, but most of the time I'm just riding on instinct or thinking about what I'm going to eat post ride (usually 🍩 or 🍕). What do the pros do? Meditation? Yoga? Self talk?

    Need to see more of what just you three just started to touch on. Enduro is not DH. Taking the smoother line and energy saved adds up to less mistakes and more energy for when you need it later in the day

    • @MGMAlternative
      @MGMAlternative  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Could do a full video on that!

    • @MGMAlternative
      @MGMAlternative  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I (Miranda) really struggle with this switching from DH to Enduro where I want to FEEL pinned and fast everywhere. This day flicked a switch for me to focus on exactly what you're saying about trying to be smooth and consistent instead of fast burst to slowing down too much.
