    My cv joint literally exploded today in my polo. Never fixed anything like this before on my car. Have done few other simple things but this seems to be the best video and has given me confidence to the fact I can fit it myself.

    Great video. Best I've seen! Using the hub bolt to pull the joint off is great idea if you have a ratchet gun thing. If not, steady pressure on bolt will just start rotating the shaft. Took shaft off in the end and clamped it in massive vice to pull cv joint off with bolt.

  • @iandrackert7838
    @iandrackert7838 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Good video. One thing. NEVER hammer on the bolt threaded into the end. You can strip the threads. Instead, put a socket large enough to clear the splines and hammer on the socket. Also, always replace the axle bolt, it's a stretch type and requires red thread locker.

    • @dandyer8351
      @dandyer8351 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just use a copper mallet straight on the spline ends, wont do any damage as its much softer than hard steel.

    I hit a pot hole today and part of the metal on the lower arm front bushes sheared off, the link also sheared and the drive shaft separated from the cv joint!
    got recovered by the AA, that was £70 well spent for relay.
    I've taken the lower arm off and was wondering how I was going to reattach the CV joint to the drive shaft
    all the other videos tell you to remove the drive shaft to do this job
    your method will save me a lot of time and effort.

    Great tutorial, thanks!! The main bolt is 200Nm plus 180 degrees as you say. 2 things, first, the GKN kit I used had a bolt head which takes a 17mm Allen key. Make sure to have a suitable 1/2" drive tool available. Secondly the plus 180 degrees took a lot of effort, I used a 3 foot breaker bar with a 3 foot motorcycle fork tube for extra leverage. maybe I'm weak lol....

    • @WhatDavidDoes

    • @chrisdavies860
      @chrisdavies860 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@dsm7 it means tighten it to the 200NM using your torque wrench, then tighten by an additional half a turn. You can mark the nut on one side with a white dot or something, perhaps at 9 o'clock on a clock face, then finish tighten the nut until the white dot is at the 3 o'clock position
