I should know, I've played through Origami King and listened to every song again outside of the game at least once. 1:53 is the leitmotif of the TTYD remake (and it has been present in the original game, just not nearly as often). That's why it's so prevalent in the remake's OST. FredtheMontyMole recently uploaded a video where he analyzes the remake's entire OST and counts every occurrence of that 3-note leitmotif. I'd recommend checking that one out.

I cannot get over how hard the minor key Mario Bros 1-1 theme at 0:29 hits. This theme is sooo good, and actually pumps me up for the Pit of 100 Trials, which is quite the accomplishment.
Best theme in the game. I'm so glad this plays in the pit of 100 trials instead of the repetitive original battle theme. It makes 100 entire battles more enjoyable
I love that they added so much emotional depth by adding more music too each of the characters and places. Everything feels more vibrant and alive. The new music does grow on you just put headphones on and you can hear the wide range of instruments. I love this game so much.
YEAH BABYYYYYYY BATTLE THEM VARIANTS FROM TOK ARE BACK WITH FULL FORCE!!!! (Ok technically it started in CS with the parallel and 8-bit battle theme, but TOK went all out with the idea, and so did this remake!) Look man, I love the OG battle theme like most people, but its so cool to have a lot more variety, and all of them using the regular version as a basis to build upon it! And for the theme itself, holy sweet mother of jesus what a great pick to have as the first different battle theme! You first here it in Hookatil's Castle, and it fits incredibly well! It's very medieval in its instrumentation and feel, while sounding very "conclusive", which is fitting, considering this plays at the end of the first chapter of the game lol. The way the strings sound kinda off key is insanely great, the electric guitars in the background adding more to the intensity! Something to note is that battle theme variants in this game (compared to TOK) tend to deviate much more with the OG composition, specifically the mid sections of the songs, like here it sounds completely unique (and I adore having more uniqueness to each song!), the flute doing a great job with those medieval feels I said earlier, especially in the reprise, and god do I love the trumpet solo at 0:49, that stuff is great! Followed up by that beautiful violin and ughhhhhh it's awesome! (The bridge also kinda sounds like the mid section for CS battle theme, but Idk if its intentional tho, TOK's regular battle theme also had similarities to CS's and I honestly think it's just them using similar notes and stuff, still sounds cool, plus those metallic sounding instrument sounds, tho idk what instrument that is tbh) I guess the only complaint is that it doesn't fit that much with other areas it's used in (Poshley Sanctum, Courtyard Tower, and the Pit), like it fits in the sense of sounding intimidating and dangerous, but I feel like that medieval motif kinda clashes with those areas, I get it's like TOK's Unsettling Battle theme, but admittedly, I think that one did a better job at being usable in more than one area. It still is amazing tho!
I will always associate this with the Pit but this also fits very well in Hooktail Castle. Also this is the first different regular battle theme you'll hear
I like this approach to "unsettling area" over TOK. It feels a little more like we're getting serious, with the strings and horns nailing their parts, plus strongly executed organ, flute, and mallet solos.

This battle theme is also used for the Pit and for the boo battles inside the painting in Poshley Heights, but that doesn't make it a "special battle theme," and it's not called that in the in-game soundtrack player.
Let's just say from my expertise in playing from the original... when you get to the 70s - 90s you better make sure you got at least 6 ultra shrooms, 6 jammin jellies and 8 life shrooms because it is absolute hell at those stages. Plus it is wise that you have the super appeal and that for the partner badges on because you WILL ABSOLUTELY NEED STAR POWER AT ALMOST EVERY MOMENT!! The Amazy Dayzees in the 90s levels are your FIRE POWER FOR LEVELING UP BEFORE BONETAIL AND THE WHACKA!! Make certain that you absolutely destroy the amazing dayzees NO MATTER WHAT!! If they run away it will be worthless to continue on! My strategy: Use appeal at all turns to build your star points when it's low and RUN AWAY. come back again then do the same until your star points are full! Then immediately attack those amazing dayzees taking at least more than 5 HP then follow up with a star power attack (Mines: Art Attack or Supernova) and take at least 15 HP out and defeat the amazy dayzees! I made it to Bonetail with only a few Ultra Mushrooms, ONE Jammin' Jelly and ONE Life Mushroom to my name. My strategy was to alternate between Power Lift and Sweet Feast, keep Bobbery on the offensive and appeal (I had Super Appeal P on), and have Mario whack her the only way I know how, with my handy-dandy most trusted badge: Piercing Blow. (To be clear, this was my first time ever playing a few days ago.)
You don’t really need so many of those items for the Pit (unless you haven’t gotten used to Superguards yet). Reduce the clutter by making at least 3 Jelly Ultras, and bring at most 4 Life Shrooms. Use the remaining space for Shooting Stars, Repel Capes, or Boo’s Sheets as those will help you out a lot more than you realize. As for Amazy Dayzee, you can put it to sleep with Sleepy Stomp (equip two for extended effect), then take care of the remaining enemies, and use the rest of the time to deal with the Dayzees in any way you see fit. Run away if you don’t put it to sleep in time or if they flee, and try again until it works.
to those of you saying you’re getting origami king vibes, there’s a reason for that. The same composers who worked on the origami King soundtrack, worked on this one.

In the chapter 1 sound gallery, there isn't this music. Since people say this music is also used in the pit of 100 trials, that would mean it's in the Rogueport sound gallery.
Hearing this track by itself is pretty good, but constantly hearing the intro for _every_ pit of 100 trials battle got grating really fast for me. Thank god for nostalgic tunes

@@Aego384Yeah, I turned on Nostalgic Tunes after a while. Not that I don't like the theme, mind you, it's just that the classic TTYD battle theme helped me play better. It's a subconscious thing. To be honest, though, I wish that they just used this for the lower floors of the pit and used the Chapter 1 theme for the upper floors. If that theme fit Shwonk Fortress, it would've fit the Pit of 100 Trials, too.

I don't like this theme. It played too much. Also this battle theme basically screams 'we're doomed, we're doomed!'. Its just a Goomba. Bitch please. Where is the happy Paper Mario TTYD theme I know? Additions of all variations of battle themes can also be a bad thing, and this one clearly is a bad one.

@@Aego384Yeah, I turned on Nostalgic Tunes after a while. Not that I don't like the theme, mind you, it's just that the classic TTYD battle theme helped me play better. It's a subconscious thing.
To be honest, though, I wish that they just used this for the lower floors of the pit and used the Chapter 1 theme for the upper floors. If that theme fit Shwonk Fortress, it would've fit the Pit of 100 Trials, too.
