Hoo boy, I'm catching up here. Learning that this remake followed Origami King with dynamic music and new battle themes has me reeling. If anything I still need to finish my origami King album before even looking into this (which I'll have an update video about soon), but I will definitely have to consider it: Y'all know I love a good medley!
I did it! In the same spirit as this one beloved medley, my Complete Battle Medley of Paper Mario: The Thousand -Year Door is on my channel, waiting for you!
The music will always be amazing but listening to the OST will never recreate that feeling the sound engineering instills with the music changes in correlation to what the player is doing. Playing a cut back version while you strategize, and then when you think you finally solved the puzzle you hit that button and the orchestra is back in full swing...immaculate.
yeah when I first heard the TOK boss themes I thought "eh, they're alright", but after playing the game I realized why I didn't like them at first. It was because I didn't understand the context of the bosses and couldn't really imagine the themes playing in the background of a paper mario boss. Of course after playing the game I can really say that now I can't imagine it any other way! I love the more open and cinematic feel of the bosses and their themes. It really allows for a better soundtrack imo.
If you ever played a recent Fire Emblem game (starting with Awakening), they do something similar there. Orchestral during strategy, thunderous as the action unfolds. Intelligent Systems are really good at this.
Miitopia also does the same, whenever the player is thinking what move they do, the music changes and let's the player think before kicking back in once the player is ready to attack, and the music also changes if a status affect happens on a Mii, like hyper, sobbing, angry, you get the idea. Heck, even the actions the enemies do effect the music too!
@@linus6718 In this case, both situations are around the same person. Yoshito Sekigawa/Hirano now has 3 Paper Mario OSTs (TTYD-GCN, TOK, TTYD-NS) under his belt.
Well. Purple Streamer Battle makes me think of my dad--he was a sailor (an ACTUAL sailor, not some poser who just powerboated everywhere without ever lowering the sails), so I'm sure he'd have liked the seafaring sound. Kind of a bittersweet thing, since he passed away a little over 10 years ago.
Love how not only do they change instruments to reflect the area the fights take place but the music grows more intense as you progress with the game and the puzzles get harder.
There should've been more bosses spread throughout the game that used the theme instead of two just shoved into Shangri I'd still probably be happy even if it was just one minor boss guarding the major boss like a goomba stack blocking overlook tower, a mummy that defends the temple of shrooms, an ancient elemental golem in the sea tower the list goes one
@@RylixBlizzai there were lots of other bosses, the sumo bros are there as a vellumental stand-in, and the handaconda is there as part of scissors’ gimmick brigade of fun and creepy enemies
@@matiasnl i'm well aware of the bosses like the Vellumentals, Paper Machos and Legion but i'm just saying that i wish there were more middle bosses spread throughout the game heck even SS and CS had them with things like the big buzzy beetle, big spiny, big lava bubble, Petea and the damn steak too
I imagine that a lot of Paper Mario fans probably hate that the bosses in this game are office supplies, but I love how I can be listening to these epic boss themes, and then I look at the title and they were made for rolls of tape and pairs of scissors
It makes sense on multiple levels though. Firstly, in a world where everything is made of paper, office supplies are basically eldritch entities capable of cutting, fusing, perforating and altering flesh and matter with ease. Secondly, according to true origami tradition, you are supposed to only use paper to make them and only fold and unfold it, never cut it, glue it, or alter it in any other way. It means King Olly, who is an origami, has allied with some forbidden and eldritch forces to enforce his rule.
I've noticed recently the color splash has been getting more love as of late, and that people have come to a positive-ish consensus on origami king, so their effort isnt in vain. Except sticker star of course cause it's just a bad game
