And to think after this you get Whacka’s Battle Theme which is much much sillier but it still keeps the opera for some bizarre reason
Blame the pit
1:06 onwards until the loop is just majestic. Love it.
Reached Bonetail today and I was hyped after hearing Gloomtail’s theme. This, however, might be the single best track in the game (and boy is there some stiff competition)
This track alone blows the original's soundtrack out of the water simply by taking one of the least interesting boss themes of the original and making it sound as wildly intimidating as this. And the best part is the team didn't have to do any of this!!!
I'm amazed at how much the game is improved from the original. A fine example of how to do a proper remake.
@@CaptainFalcon333Some nostalgia bias folk would disagree harshly unfortunately. Weird I know
@@chrange9714 Some say the original is superior solely because of the reason it runs at 60 fps instead of 30. I hope we'll get a 60 fps version of the remake for the Switch successor.
@@TicTacToeCraft Those kinds of people need to go outside more
@@chrange9714 Certainly, while I would have preferred the remake to operate at 60 frames per second, even at the cost of visual fidelity, the 30 frames per second did not impact my enjoyment of the game at all. Moreover, the remake undoubtedly surpasses the original in almost every other aspect.
I was playing this late at night, and that combined with the abject darkness before the fight, Bonetail's new howl, and this song cutting in actually gave me that "there's something behind you" paranoia.
I was not prepared to be genuinely unnerved by a game I've spent so much time in (my first GameCube save was stuck at 99:59).
Just made it here last night. One life shroom left. Flurrie was a god send. Lip Lock and Dodging ability on mario kept me in the 5 or lower range to keep my attack power high enough to keep bonetail down. After making it here 15 years ago and losing I finally got my victory
0:27 omg i always thought it would be like that one day
I accomplished the entire Pit of 100 Trials for the first time late at night with the air conditioner on in my room. My god! It took me 3 freaking torture gaming hours to accomplish and reaching to the lowest floor! I almost died! This music, HOLY SHIT! They cooked real damn hard! It gives me chills when I was fighting against Bonetail. It almost felt like death is coming to get me. What was that feeling inside me?! I had one Life Mushroom left while fighting against Bonetail after being resurrected by each 5 of them while fighting against enemies in the lowest floors. I almost give up when I had one Life Mushroom left on my item inventory. Gosh, my body is shaking with fear and I can feel the nerve pain inside of me!
At least I defeated Bonetail at the end and leave the room before saving the game and taking a breather by exploring various locations.
Wow! There’s a separate version of this?? Awesome!!!
There's even a Gloomtail version. I LOVE theme variations!
@@CookedSpringtrap However, if you equip the Nostalgia Tunes badge, it replaces with the old dragon battle theme
@@jkmenttonet1478another reason why it's the worst badge in the game
@@CookedSpringtrap Yeah! I just beat Chapter 8 last night, so I had no idea there were THREE versions of this!
@@PianistTanooki Wait that doesn't make sense. Gloomtail and Bonetail's themes weren't in the OG game at all, therefore, according to the description in the Badge List, Nostalgic Tunes should've kept them...
Is it because they're remixes of an existing theme? I suppose so, but MAN that's lame.
This music was such a jumpscare after doing a Pre-Hooktail Pit challenge for this game. I am NOT complaining though.
A perfect remake for a perfect game. When I was a kid I never beat bonetail, so when I fighted it the other day I was blown awaw, the music, the fight itself, the mood, everything is perfect. What a good fucking remake man
I did this dungeon not planning on actually completing it after chapter 3 while my gf watched. I locked in super hard when I got to bonetail and was super relieved once I won! Definitely a core memory for me even if it’s a dumb paper game.
@Mona-by8qq Yeah good point, but being a 20 something you kind of have to downplay your passions a bit no matter what it is even something like sports or arts.
Yoooo bro i just fought him after chapter 3 too! Not as cool as you though because i brought 10 lifeshrooms to make sure i made it hahahah
How the fffffUCK did you get to him just after chapter 3??💀💀 I just did it after chapter 7 and much grinding
@@polar9984Knowledge of the game. Superguarding is key. Definitely not recommended for first time players since this is actually a serious challenge.
@KirbyTear yeah I had no idea Bonetail was at the end of the trials, and I just finished up Chapter 2, so this was an unpleasant surprise lmao
man, this theme remaster really added to the dread of the fight. Clutched out a win though!
Very impressive how they managed to improve a soundtrack that was already amazing
It is the same composer after all
Got here after chapter 4 and wow it was intense!
I remember as a kid on the GC version never being able to reach there and now finally was able as early as finishing chapter 4.
The constant leveling up really helped
I felt the same way last night when I got to this battle. I was so starstruck. But the thing is I didn't have any trouble fighting her.
Absolutely menacing!
It’s been YEARS since I’ve felt so tense during a fight in any game. Thank you for your clutch fog Flurrie :)
…Now to continue my search for General White!
good luck soldier.
You know what would complete this?
A high budget fight animation
I love how in the remake there are unique boss themes for each of the dragon bosses, like ones for both Hooktail in Hooktail Castle, Gloomtail in the Palace of Shadow, and Bonetail in The Pit of 100 Trials! The theme for Bonetail specifically is easily the creepiest of all and it is also the most frantic, implying to you that Bonetail isn't like the others. She's an ancient, evil force to be reckoned with.
Edit: Additionally, I usually use the badge "Nostalgic Tunes" for every boss I fight in the remake, but since Gloomtail, Bonetail, Prince Mush, and themes are so unique, I'm definitely not going to for each of them!
Dark Shrooms: Prepare to Die Edition.
After 89 straight fights just to get here, you know I was sweating lmao.
this is probably my favourite paper mario song now,
(good job TTYD remake)
bonetail is stronger than the shadow queen in terms of stats, and this theme really wants you to know it.
The composers cooked this so much to perfection, they could hypothetically solve world hunger.
This theme hits differently when you're doing a Pre-Hooktail Pit of 100 Trials run while slowly whittling down Bonetail's HP with Appeal + Sweet Treat + Fire Drive/Piercing Blow...
WHO GAVE THEM THE RIGHT TO ABSOLUTELY FUCKING COOK WITH THIS THEME OH MY GOD ITS SO GOOD
The vocals sound like they came straight out of full metal alchemist brotherhood
My favorite theme in this game used to be shadow queen. Now it’s this by a landslide!
Giving off Vordt of the Boreal Valley theme vibes and I'm all for
0:45 You know when you start hearing a chorus that you’re in for some deep shit lol. 😂
Easily one of the most metal songs in the Mario discography. I’d mosh to this in the pit (of 100 trials) 🔥
I just beat this thing with unreasonable amounts of luck while only having just beaten Chapter 3. Amazing that the game lets you do that, one hell of a crazy good fight!
As soon as you get flurrie and power her up she can tank bonetail pretty good, I never managed to beat the pit before hooktail but its super doable pre puni orb
weren't you grossly overleveled for the rest of the game?
I will always rember getting hear after 3 hours of the 100 pit trial with my older brother on the verge of defeat tell a toad through us an ultra shroom giving us the road to victory! How i miss those days
Getting through the Pit of 100 trials was a pain for me way back.
Back then I didn’t know about badges and items but now I was prepared and figured out the system.
WHY DOES THIS GO SO HARD MAN THIS IS AWESOMEEE
1:09 best part.
Wont lie. I stopped for like 10 minutes to listen to this when i arrived
Jesus Christ I was not expecting this when I finally reached Bonetail. It made me legit smile. One of if not my favourite theme in the game!!!!
Once again, Mario has become Dark Souls
WE MAKIN IT OUT THE PIT WITH THIS ONE 🗣️🗣️🗣️🔥🔥🔥🔥 🎸 🎸 🎸
One of my favourite remixes ...They turned Bonetail's encounter into such an epic Dark Souls boss with this one lol
"Okay, surely this isn't too bad...
I'M SORRY HOW MUCH HP?!"
I finally beat her today. I never made it to this battle in the original game I felt so startstruck and happy.
0:54 this is one of the best parts
This was quite the surprise waiting for me at level 100 lol, and it adds a lot of tension to the already difficult fight. I overstocked on Jelly Ultras just to be safe, and by the end of the fight I only had 1 left
I survived with nothing but luck and my balls tucked in my body
Adaptive ost was the best feature to add to this game.
I actually just beat Bonetail for the first time ever! I never fought her in the original 20 years ago when it came out, as I never really bothered with the Pit of 100 trials after beating the Shadow Queen. I actually decided to do the pit before the end of the game this time and I can’t believe I won! I was nervous as hell the entire time, because I actually leveled up quite a bit on the way, and I didn’t want to lose all that progress! Proud gaming moment for me!
Chase Whacka off Keelhaul Key then get down to Bonetail's floor again... But u better be real capable of Superguarding CONSISTENTLY
I heard…
@@friendlybendy2070 Or abuse Shell Shield
man if i took this song out of context and showed it to some random metal head, they'd never guess it was from a paper mario game.
unironically goes hard
This song really struck fear into my heart since I knew that if I died here, I would have to start over from the top.
I was never able to beat Bonetail as a small child. I'm glad I could finally do it many years later
I love the beginning sounding like a viking song, lol.
Kinda wish they would have given Bonetail a better badge to guard than "Return Postage" or whatever its called 😅
Almost makes me wish I didn't happen to have somehow obtained _five_ Power Up P badges in total.
Power Lift + Yoshi's Ground-Pound = Sweet dreams, Boney~
Theme of Pre Hooktail pit of 100 Trials finale…
i did this fight pre-hooktail... and it took me like, 5 days. god.
Getting to hear this at the end of pre-Hooktail Pit runs will be wild
Oh hey I didn't know Sephiroth was a new secret boss
“AROOOOOOOOOOOOO!”
Sheesh, what a grouch!
"Wow! What a freak!"

Ngl I got a jumpscare when this started playing. I reached Bonetail after Chapter 4 and wasn't aware that they did remixes for Hooktail's siblings. I was blown away, it's such a chilling and magnificent theme!!
We makin it outta the pit with this one! 🗣️🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Entering this fight halfway through the game and seeing 200 hp is the most horrifying experience I've ever had
I just beat Bonetail today and the music really help sell her superboss status. I was around level 33 and didn't follow the Danger Mario Strat. My badge set up was quick change, 2 power plus on each, both feeling fine badges, jumpman, all or nothing, P-Up, D-Down on Mario, pretty lucky, lucky start, 2 flower savers P, 1 flower saver and 1 power rush if things got dicey.
Honestly the feeling fine badges arent needed since regular guarding prevents the statuses when she goes malboro mode
@@EthVortexShieldits helpful if youre not ready for the timings
Probably the best new song they added
The moment Bonetail has you cornered with her status conditions breath but then you equipped the Feeling Fine Badge.
With that, now it’s a fair fight.
Chomp
Good lord that intro
BONETAIL GETS HIS OWN THEME! Who's ready to rip this bony bastard a new one again?
Edit: Okay, Bonetail is a girl, but I am pretty certain she doesn't have a dad.
She's a girl now actually.
already done, Danger Mario so broken lol
Her, actually. She's a girl like in other regions.
Fun fact: Bontail is a female now in the remake
Whatever. She ain't got a dad. @@shylar763
That's Bonetail. She's Hooktail and Gloomtail's eldest sister. So old, she's nothing but bones... Now, THAT'S old!
Max hp is *200,* attack power is 8, defense is 2.
She's got all sorts of gnarly breath attacks, and when her hp gets low, she might just recover! Or reanimate, as the case may be...
Seriously, she's tougher than your regular final boss stock!! Let's give this one everything we've got, Mario!
In the remake, Bonetail is female and Hooky's older sister. Apparently she was in the original Japanese script but localization changed it.
@@chrange9714 Oh, really? Was going off the original tattle, haven't dared try to get here yet. Interesting!
@@corjonbett Yep, apparently the English release was the only one to actually have her as male so it was most likely changed here for consistency. Gloomtail always was and still is male though.
I accidentally had nostalgic tunes on for this fight didn't realize till after i won, I'm still mad about that.
for people wondering why it's cus i visited the xnaut fortress in the postgame and the new xnaut fortress theme is very bad
Cant refight bonetail either :x
@@Ravenbeak2564 At least you can listen to it in the "Special" section of the Sound Gallery lol.
Literally a second after making this I realize it's also something you can do by watching this video and you probably only wanted to hear it in the fight. Sorry for the pointless notification.
Goodluck to the people that are going to beat bonetail early because one thing...
P A I N
I overprepared for this fight. Which is weird to say when this is a superboss but I've seen true terror... and it has pink spots.
At least I got to hear this.
“AAARRRROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!”
I don’t really know why Bonetail can’t talk, but that honestly makes her even freakier than her siblings.
I think she went insane from the isolation and is attacking out of irrational hatred rather than hunger or sadism.
@@almondjoy4938 There’s also the detail that as a skeleton, she doesn’t have any lungs.
