@@timjenkins7019 Don't believe Didier Charles-Pierre. I say no, this car did not have winter tires. Obviously, if this car had snow tires, it would move quicker without issue. Just goes to show that Cadillac's twin clutch on the XT4 performed well.

      2 reasons:
      1) Anybody who's worked around cars can tell by the agressive thread that those are winters
      2) Quebec plates. In this canadian province it is required by law to have winters between december and march@@johnls39

  • @kenduxbury7122
    @kenduxbury7122 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

To be fair to the XT4s AWD system, those tires aren't very aggressive for winter tires.
My snow tires on my VW GLI are far more beefy in tread design.
Just because they're labeled as "winter tires" doesn't mean they're good.
And living in Montana and having to deal with snow and ice over half the year, I can attest that momentum is a BIG factor when going onto an incline that is covered in snow and or ice. No matter what you're driving.

  • @bill7481

This test is totally unfair to the Cadillac. The other “better” cars have not been tested with snow and ice on the ground. Under the circumstances, it did very well. Congrats, Cadillac!

You can tell that the Achilles' heel with this twin clutch system, is that the rear wheel can grab abruptly- so much so that it made the car jump sideways several times when it caught.

I bet the low profile tires on it made it that much worse. My car has low profile all seasons and they’re horrid in the snow but it doesn’t snow enough for me to invest in winter tires so I drive one of my other vehicles. Kinda sucks that a lot of AWD cars have the low pro’s kinda defeats the purpose in snow

This vehicle performed better than Honda and is on par with Toyota CRV. What are you guys talking about? Did you guys watch the full video? I have a feeling Cadillac may have quietly snuck it's way back into the automobile market with this vehicle. In particular the crossover. They may have even poured their heart and soul into this project, since things arent looking to good for them. Of the Luxary crossovers, you have Lexus and now this. Which one would I choice? Depending on price and warrenty. Caddy has to regain trust with its consumer when it comes to realibility. And lexus has has it. So be defualt, caddillac is fighting an uphill battle against toyota. However if they keep it clean, honest and dont so read them self out to thin and price this competitive. It should be a hit. I really like. And I hate American cars. I suffered with them and my driveway looks like a toyota/ lexus dealership.

Cadillac I hope you watched this video. A few things need to be sorted out in the awd software. At the end of the video the vehicle was in sport mode with traction control off. This software program set up need to be the default for snow mode because it allows for the vehicle to keep it's momentum. Next, the power was being cycled on and off in a rough manner that could be corrected with a software fix. And I could hear the clutch engage going from fwd to awd. On a luxury vehicle I wonder if the technology is refined enough and robust enough for 150,000 miles or km or more. Are automakers trying to achieve to much through electronics alone and is it time to bring back more mechanical bits for the awd.

Sometimes it only takes a small percentage of underwhelming events to make the whole thing a deal breaker. I live in Michigan, on a gravel/dirt road that's not a priority school bus route. Which means my dirt road is unplowed at 6am when it's time for work. I bought the BMW X3 AWD because I wanted a luxury small SUV that was really fun to drive and yet the X-Drive is extremely smooth in the software program in how it goes about getting power or traction down to the ground in all weather conditions. And it was this TH-cam site that highlighted and focused on all the manufacturers different AWD systems so that the average consumer can see what the awd can do in the hand of the general public in real world testing. To me, this site is a competition between automotive engineers from the respective brands. As engineers see other engineers make tweaks and adjustments to their awd systems based on what they see in this test, a spotlight begins to shine on the stubborn engineers that refuse to acknowledge issues in the awd systems and programs.
I am shopping for another vehicle and I will refer to this site for awd test results also.
So automakers show love to this site.
And can this site test the volume leading 2020 explore and the Jeep pickup Rubicon.
And my X3 is the M40i version

I find it weird how Cadillac advertises this new twin clutch AWD system as one that saves fuel because you can put it into FWD mode yet the XT4 gets worse gas mileage than a faster and larger X3 which uses an automatic AWD system. It seems dumb to have to press a button anytime you may encounter a slick road when it really should just automatically engage AWD whenever slippage is detected when there’s no tangible efficiency benefit.

Meh. It ain’t no Jeep Wrangler, but it did OK for just cutting thru snow. Also, it looks like it has 20 or 21 inch low profile tires on it. Lmao people forget that snow driving and off-roading isn’t just about having AWD, it’s about your tires too. If this thing had some good 17 or 18 inch all-seasons or snow tires on it, it would’ve walked up that incline no sweat even in FWD mode I bet.
