- Mercedes is one of Germany's most luxurious and sought-after brands. The same can be said about America's Cadillac. One is more classically elegant while the other applies a modern and contemporary take of luxury. The Cadillac XT4 is a surprisingly good crossover while the Mercedes GLC has been leader of the luxury SUV pack for close to 5 years already. Today we're going to see which is the best luxury SUV - The Mercedes GLC or the Cadillac XT4.

I drove a German (BMW) vehicle for 14 years ..changed to caddy SRX and now purchased a XT4 best move ever , Caddy over a German vehicle any day !!!

jazzbeau507 You get more with a Cadillac and product is superior..unless you upgrade with a German vehicle ( and I mean upgrade $$$$) you’re getting plenty of plastic ! German vehicles can be costly to maintain and good luck if you’re planning to keep the vehicle beyond 4+ years ..Cadillac is a good product , service is by far ahead of all ! Had an 2016 SRX and now bought a 2020 XT4 , wow love it . German vehicles would cost a bomb if it had the same bells and whistles similar to my XT4 ! Good hunting , hope this helps.
@@bg767 Thank you, that is good information; agree that service cost of German vehicles is a big problem; Neighbor has XT5, he thought XT4 was too small. Maybe the rule of thumb is keep German car 4 years, American car 8 years, and Japanese car 12 years.

You can get a panoramic sunroof as an option in the Xt4.

I agree. The Cadillac felt cutting edge, the Mercedes [ and the BMW X3] felt a generation old. I had ridden in an XT5, and didn't have much hope for the XT4, but WOW ! I was blown away. Great job, GM !

I had a Mercedes ML550 a few years ago..MAJOR $$-pit..never again. I got the Caddy XT5..NICE, NO PROBLEMS. Go Caddy!
Which impresses me more? The Cadillac XT4, so much so that I bought one. Sunroof option makes the interior atmosphere

Thanks for the review, I ended up agreeing with you and bought an XT4 yesterday. Coming from an ATS coupe I was worried about losing the feeling of a car and though it doesn't drive quite as good as the coupe, I instantly felt comfortable in it. Now I just have to wait for 2 weeks for it to get shipped in.

You should have mentioned that the Cadillac can be equipped with a sunroof also.
Excellent review. The GLC is nice but it does not quite compete with the XT4. The XT5 is its main competitor to the GLC but it is nice to see that you mix it up with the XT4 with the GLC and was surprised that you picked the XT4 over the GLC. I'll take the XT4 over the GLC also in spite of the XT4 being FWD.

Shawn M test drive a Sport XT4. You can’t judge all FWD biased platforms and consider them the same. GM has one of the best AWD systems on the market and it performs really well in the XT4. You can’t even tell it’s FWD biased.
I thought the XT5 would be closer to the GLC 300 as well, but the XT4 is 181 inches long, the GLC 183 and the XT5 189, so the XT5 is quite a bit bigger than either the XT4 or GLC.
xt4 looks better, a lot better. merc tech is always going to win. the fact that the caddy is in a serious head to head with the benz is a demonstration of how far Cadillac has come. if the caddy had not won it would still be the winner.

I have the 2022 XT4 sport it is everything and more that was explained in the video plus the panoramic sunroof it is extremely worth the money I paid for it am impressed
I bought a 2023 Cadillac XT4 in December and I love it. All the luxury cars are great but I dislike the computer display stuck up on the dash, I feel like I’m at work That’s one reason I chose the Cadillac. The computer screen is integrated into the dash.

I like how you get it. Cadillac sometimes has some GM parts but it's the full picture that needs to be appreciated. I was never a Cadillac owner in the past but I am now and appreciate every minute of it. Ct5-V is a literal masterpiece. I ended up with this car after driving every other car on the market up to an s-class. Good job Cadillac you deserve the credit !
I LOVE my XT4.. I have waited decades for a sporty Cadillac. I have had CLK SLC E.. 335 325.. LandRover.. and this is one of my favorites of all time. Plus, the color combo of blue exterior with gorgeous butterscotch Sedona leather.
I just traded the 2019 Land rover discovery sport for the XT4 the difference is night and day, For someone like me that owned more cars than years alive this XT4 is my most favorite luxury car I owned in a very long time. And some of those previous cars were mercedes Land rover bmw and gmc
Thanks for your comment…like wise, I currently own a 2018 Land Rover Discovery HSE LUXURY T6 Diesel, and considering the XT4 Sport. With the Land Rover being very luxurious, what was your reason for that particular switch, and do you miss the luxury and ride of the Land Rover?
@@JB-ew8nd I switched because I moved farther away from work so the 6 cylinder 4 wheel drive was making me anxious LOL Plus I didnt like the land rover that much My Caddy has 10x more features and drives so much nicer than the land rover I had

yep, i test drove the 2024 mercedes GLC300, bmw x3, porsche macan S, cadillac xt4, and i bought the cadillac for reliability, distinctive DRL, and big 33 wide screen.
my other car is a 2017 corvette with stick (i also test drove two porsche 911 and bboxster)
i bought the kids a new 2019 toyota camry SE and a 2016 VW jetta

Nice review, got a pre-owned 2019 XT4 6 months ago and loving it! I've heard reliability for Mercedes in the long run is pretty bad overall so hopefully the XT4 will last me a good long time 👍🏻 keep up the great work!

I agree, the Cadillac XT4 to me exhibits a greater luxurious appeal and performance than the Mercedes GLC. Yes, the Mercedes is opulent but its design and performance philosophy is too generic for my taste. You can find the same philosophy in BMW and Audi. Frankly, that is my opinion of the German luxury cars as a whole. Yes, they are luxurious and sporty but there is nothing really to distinguish them from each other. They are all the same sheetmetal with a different badge attached to them. There really isn't anything that makes the German luxury cars stand out amongst the crowds. On the other hand, Cadillac does this because it is an inherently American design and based on this video offers performance and luxury that is either at the same level or exceeds the Mercedes. Plus, Cadillac just looks different. Which to me goes a long way in exhibiting that stand-out appeal that I believe is inherent to a luxury car. However, I will agree with critics that Cadillac still lacks something that the German cars do not and that is brand appeal. You can create a great performing luxury car that appeals to car enthusiasts such as myself, but to the average American driver, the name Cadillac is still going to burn that image of an "old man's car" into their minds; it's not cool to drive and does not command presence. Also, Cadillac's quality and reliability is still not quite up to par with the German or Japanese luxury brands. The XT4 is an excellent start but Cadillac is going to have make a decades worth of these good impressions with good reliability if it is going to succeed in gaining the title of "Standard of the World" again.

I had a 2019 XT4 Premium Luxury (same colors as yours) with a huge pano roof and all other options, great car and so nice to drive, I loved it but sadly it got totaled in a parking lot. You hit it spot on...but to be fair If you would have compared a PremLux to MBZ you really would have picked the Cadillac 100% more. Just FYi you missed you got a spare tire with the Cad but not the MBZ. Great video!

I would agree with you on the Caddy over the Merc They did a good job with this one for Caddy I have a 2020 coming this week and I am looking forward to that, it is the Luxury model FWD and they ride and handle great Trading in my ATS which is a great handling vehicle and had a lot of fun and pleasure from it .SUV comfort coming up next for me!

That rumble in the Mercedes was really annoying during your drive session, but then eventually the Caddy seemed to have the same annoying thumping later in the drive..
XT4 is killer!
In the GLC's case, youre paying for the badge. It does not exhibit the typical feel of higher end Benz models. Cadillac did a better job retaining the luxury feel for its entry level CUV!

One of these cars has a spare tire! Mercedes looks cramped inside...but could be cozy maybe.Our XT4 has a real big sunroof.

I think the front fascia design is nicer on the BMW. The Cadillac has an awkward looking front, and would take some getting used to.

Does anyone know if the XT4 is the Sport model, or is it the Luxury?
In this video, it's the sport model. The clear tail lights is the identifier for the sport model. Luxury & premium luxury have red tail lights.
Also the all black grille is for the sport model.
Surprised with the result as this is the only comparison where the Cadillac has done well. For example, the 0-60 difference is 5.4 for the GLC versus 7.8 for the XT4 (Car and Driver for both) which is fairly huge and also reflected in the passing times. Interior and exterior design are subjective but I find the interior quality of the XT4 not in keeping with its competitive set, there is a ton of hard plastics like on the lower doors and center console along with haphazard panel gaps. Other things like the slow-witted 9 speed that doesn’t rev match on downshifts or the jarring ride to be demerits as well.
Own one and we did evaluated with GLC which interior materials wise is nicer, but overall we did not like it. Caddy lower part plastics are Chevy grade, the switches, turn stalks etc,,, but overall got a lot for under 44K including massage seats and probably everything else. 6 years 70K miles power train warranty is also good.

Only a slow witted person would be concerned about a rev matching nine speed automatic transmission in a 240 hp all-wheel-drive SUV. LOL
@@alansh1492 apparently smooth and swift downshifts aren’t a priority for you but thankfully you’re in the minority and all the best automatics from ZF, Mercedes, Aisin and others offer rev matching.
but my test drives showed me that the germans had turbo lag (mercedes GLC300, bnw x3, porsche macan s) and the cadillac had no turbo lag

Lol. Possibly the only journalist who had positive things to say about the XT4 interior. The Benz would easily be the choice here. It is substantially larger inside, much better designed inside, more attractive on the outside, and is just a clear winner. The Cadillac is barely larger inside than the GLA And looks like the upscale Saturn that it is. Even with the price difference, the Benz gets my money.
There are a lot of reviewers who appreciated the XT4's interior. Not sure where you are going with this. XT4s had done very well for Cadillac. Although both vehicles are not in the same segment, it is good to see the XT4 beat out the GLC in this comparison test.

The Cadillac interior matches up with a Toyota or a Nissan and is not even close to that of a Mercedes. For this kind of money consumers want style not their grandmothers Cadillac.
