      Yea, Iceland, Denmark, Norway and Finland all rank top in most peaceful and prosperous nations, Sweden used to be there too before they had so many immigrants.

      Sweden still ranks among the highest in peace, happiness, security and infrastructure indexes, even surpassing my very own America. Crime may have risen in Malmö a bit, but correlating that with immigrants is hard to determine since stats related to this situation are at times misleading or even hoaxes.
      Doesn't matter, all Nordic countries are lit.

      I have questions. If for example, there was an American scientist/ tree farmer who got really sick of the politics at home, and decided to move to a relatively drama-free zone, would Icelanders be okay with that? Also, I'm only very distantly related to you folks, being mostly of Norwegian ancestry with some other stuff mixed in. So with dating, nobody would have to worry that I was related too closely. Is Iceland going to be an okay place to move to?

    I loved the point with the last names, but I must say, depending on the name it could bend. So for example ; Bjarki, it would be Bjarkadóttir, because Bjarkidóttir is not correct Icelandic. Same goes for me, my dad’s name is Tjörvi, which would make my last name Tjörvadóttir instead of Tjörvidóttir. Some people can also choose to take their mothers name, this is most of the time when the kid is born and the parents decide that the kid will take the mothers name but some people, including my friend, changed their last name from their fathers to their mothers! For example ; Guðrún, Guðrúnardóttir.
    Hope this helps!
    (If this is incorrect please tell me! Im pretty sure i am correct but if i made any mistakes please educate me on them❤️)

And yes, we're proud of ourselves, of our nations, but it's undeniable that there's something that kinda intrigues and fascinates us, especially latino-iberian people. I guess that the main thing is their sense of community. You know, these countries raised up from poor and not too relevant nations to some of the most advanced and developed very quickly: their democracy, education and safety are enviable. And also the people are mostly nice and cozy. We've got a lot to learn with 'em

    • @M3SPL
      @M3SPL 7 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      Just everywhere where are good living standards. Although it's not bad here but being really satisfied costs huge effort and sometimes it's easier to emigrate. Plus if I considered emigration I would add conservative model of our government which I don't like (our society is like splited in this area). But it's still getting better.

    • @surrealsoul9120
      @surrealsoul9120 7 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Of course, I don't think you guys would mass emigrate to Africa or Asia. But still, around 8k Poles chose to move 3,000km away from their home, learn Icelandic and integrate into society there. That's insane!

    • @M3SPL
      @M3SPL 7 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Surreal Soul 8k is not mass emigration considering that we are 9th biggest populated country in Europe (including Turkey) and when you compare it to more than 2000k Poles in Germany it seems that it's not popular destination. I think it works like domino effect. Iceland is in EEA and English is well known there, unemployment is low plus we know what airplanes are ;)

    • @surrealsoul9120
      @surrealsoul9120 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I guess it's more surprising that Poles would choose Iceland. For me, 2000k in Germany is somewhat not surprising. Well, after visiting Iceland, some people just wanted to stay and work there :)

    þ makes the voiceless th as in “thing” and ð makes the voiced th as in “the” and English used to have these letters until the Germans (who’s language lacks the th sound) invented the printing press.
    As someone who’s studied lots of languages, I have to say Icelandic isn’t that much harder than a scaled-up German. It’s easier than all of the Slavic languages for sure because of less noun cases to memorize. Definitely not one of the hardest in the world.
    Its syntax and many words are also similar to English because they’re both Germanic languages.

    Great vid, Ty. When I went to Iceland in 2019, a government back deal under-wrote the longer one stayed the cheaper one's air flight to and from Keflavik; it was brilliant (I spent way to many Yankee dollars there...)! Iceland also needs (completing your list): a cross-country highway that can be traveled at 100kph, bilingual (with English) road signs (the majority of its annual tourism, and tourist money, is from the English-speaking world), more tourist destination (outside of Reykjavik) hotels and cafes.

    • @Sandxastle
      @Sandxastle 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      1. 90 is the highest allowed speed limit in Iceland 2. Where do you think a cross-country road could go? Through a glacier or a protected area? cause it would have to be either
