We enjoyed this. Doing cursive writing and Geography mini-lessons this summer with my soon-to-be 5th grader- so this was perfect to fit into our lesson today.
I spent 10 nights in Iceland, driving the ring road. OH. MY. GAWD. It is the best trip I ever took - wide-open spaces, insanely beautiful and dramatic geology, the air and water are so clean that I (a USAer) noticed every time I took a drink. When you go, don't just do 3 nights in the golden triangle, see as much of it as you can!
The northerners (or just Norse if you don’t have much time) are exploring. They go north, from the north, to the northern north and they find some land, two types of land, and they name them accordingly ( PRANKED)
One more difference: Iceland have a national football team they are going to their first ever World Cup. Greenland aren’t even a FIFA member, though I venture to guess that their citizens are technically eligible to play for Denmark if they’re so inclined
Football is kinda the nationalsports of Greenland.. Every town and settlement has a team playing. But yeah. no grassfields at all. most are gravelfiels and a few towns have artificial turfs.. They do also play a lotta Indoor football, Fusball :) Badminton are also a very common sport in Greenland
That's awesome. I'm from Denmark, and it's always interessting to hear about our "colony" - which definitely not all Danes know is actually under it's kingdom. It's still a big dilemma regarding keeping it under danish "rule", but in the end it is *mostly* symbiotic. There is a lot of potential resources, strategic locations and geological power to be had from the danish perspective (which is hopefully treated correctly - which it isn't always) and Greenland is still hugely dependant on economic and basic resource aid from Denmark, due to it's geographical disadvantages (I mean, the only vegetables that can properly grow on the southern tip are cucumbers, kale and tomatoes...!!!!). It could have been nice if you moreso adressed these concrete geological differences, and how they affected the two countries development and happiness, since it can sometimes seem weird for Iceland, with it's volcanoes, ice and arid land, to still have such a thriving populus. Otherwise good stuff!
I started learning it a few days ago. I've made a few phrases but they might be wrong cause all that I tried doing to fill some words I didn't know is saying some Norwegian words (since I speak a tiny bit of Norwegian) but I'm not sure if they're correct. I still can't make any proper phrases but I can read and pronounce the language which is good. Your language is hard but I love it. I particularly love the letters "þ" and "ð".
I’m from Sweden, but have an icelandic born mother. Must say that I liked this video and think that it is pretty much spot on! Btw, your presidential election playlist is just brilliant! It has teached me a lot about American politics through the history. Also liked your comparision between Oregon and Washington, two States that I had the pleasure to visit a few years ago. Good work, mr Beat!
Hm Oregon and Washington. Less traffic in Oregon and cheaper to live than Washington. Western Washington is nice. Eastern Washington is kind of ugly. Eastern Oregon is very nice. That is about it.
That was a good video. I have visited Iceland and it's interesting and beautiful. I haven't been to Greenland, but I've seen it a few times flying over the Atlantic.
I really liked this video anyway and did find it very interesting, but a quick tip here in case you wanna get even more and very accurate information about Iceland specifically and even learn a bit of the the language, you can always contact @Hrafna who's an icelandic TH-camr with really personal and charming content! I think you could get a lot of knowledge - either for another future video or just out of curiousity - from her, plus she seems like a very nice and genuine person to chat with! Hope that can be of any help to you! :) And lastly; great video!
Norway vs Denmark. We were in union for hundreds of years. Norwegian (bokmål) is basically just Norwegianized Danish, and we (Norway) have a saying that "it's good to be Norwegian in Denmark".
yeah Inuits were the first to colonize Greenland. But Greenland is huge as you mentioned. So they had been mostly in the northern part. The Norse were actually the first humans in the southern part of Greenland.
It is noted however that Norsemen abandoned Greenland in the 15th century. Their health was ailing, since there was not much sun. Inuits could resist this inadequate sunlight, probably due to their diet of fat fish. Danish explorers (along with others) came again in 17th century and Greenland became Danish in 1814. My son travelled to Iceland as a tourist some 10 years ago. The nature is wild and majestic, the country is impressive, I would like to visit it. By the way, the video was very pleasant and informatory, thank you. One pleasant thing about Iceland (that I recently read in the web): people call the others by their Nicknames, when they greet them.
i am from Denmark, and lets just say that greenlandic people is a bit different in general than us danes, or scandinaviavians for that matter. They have a lot more social problems than danish people do. I live in Aalborg, and if you walk around in our city you will find greenladic people drinking everywhere. Not only do they have a big problem with alcoholism, but also domestic violence and abuse. I dont know what more we can do to help them. This is just they way it has been for as long as I remember. Other than that, I really like greenlandic people. They are very friendly. Faeroese people is also very nice. They are just more like us, and dont have the same problems as greenlanders. I heard from greenlandic people that it is a cultural thing.
Ammry 33, why would people not live there? Iceland is a beautiful country. I’ve been to Iceland once and I want to go back for another visit. I live in Greenland. Best place in the world. Sorry, rest of the world. The northeastern part of Iceland shares similarities with my area, Nuuk, in Greenland, but other areas of Iceland are very different to what we’ve got. We don’t have any volcanoes for one.
I've visited both Iceland & Greenland on a transatlantic cruise in 2013 & liked both! The Inuit children were given the day off when our ship was in harbor (Qaqortog) treated us like visiting 'movie stars', i.e. asked for our autographs! We also sailed up Prince Christian Sound to the "Most Northern Post Office in the World", where we all mailed post cards home! The people of Iceland (Reykjavik) were friendly & we also visited the bridge where the two tectonic plates (North America & Europe) come together plus saw numerous geothermal steam holes! Both very interesting!
Good luck visiting both countries. Hotels are way-expensive in Iceland, and a plane ticket from Iceland to Greenland costs about 200.000 ISK, which is bout 2000 USD P.S. I'm Icelandic
@@elvarfossdal7821 That's one convention I'll never understand why it was done that way. Decimals and commas meaning the opposite in Euro-style numbers as they do in US-style. The US style makes more sense to me, because commas are used the same way in numbers as they are in sentences. The decimal point ends the "sentence", meaning "I'm done saying the digits bigger than 1".

Two fascinating places that we don't hear enough about. Unlike Canadians, Americans are often unaware that the Norse were the first Europeans to reach the Western Hemisphere, although they never reached today's United States; there is a Leif Eriksson Park in Brooklyn, New York City, with a cool sign on 10th Avenue, in the shape of a Viking ship. I'm Icelandic! This is one of the only videos I've seen made on Iceland where it's portrayed very accurately with all the facts and stats. Great video my friend.
Loved it!! Fantastic job! You have some serious talent comparing places, very fun videos!! :)
Please do Portugal vs Spain!!!

spain took portugal over many times, portugal didnt. the end
@@accountuser8663 napoleon took Spain but couldn’t take Portugal,
Napoleon agreed to fight portugal with spain and after their victory the convenience of the french troops being inside spain made the spanish take over easy. Meaning napoleon very much took portugal
Your "comparison" videos are my favorite video! Thank you for publishing this?
Heck yeah. Thanks for watching :D
Visiting both for the very first time in late September this year. Absolutely can't wait!
Hope you enjoy it!
I spent 2 years in Iceland from 1984 to 1986. I was stationed there with the US navy.
Thank you for your service
Macau vs. Hong Kong
Venezuela vs. Colombia
Colombia wins easily and I dont even know what Macau is so Hong Kong wins
We enjoyed this. Doing cursive writing and Geography mini-lessons this summer with my soon-to-be 5th grader- so this was perfect to fit into our lesson today.
Hi Mr Beat
Thank you for your comparison. It is very good to know and it’s very helpful.
Your videos are really great : ) Thanks!!!
Thanks! It was so cool to meet you!
Great to meet you too : )
Both countries are cool (no pun intended). I would love to live in either country for a few years (especially in the winter time).
More people watched “ kitty cat funny faces “ than the population of the USA .
So what’s your point ?
I spent 10 nights in Iceland, driving the ring road. OH. MY. GAWD. It is the best trip I ever took - wide-open spaces, insanely beautiful and dramatic geology, the air and water are so clean that I (a USAer) noticed every time I took a drink. When you go, don't just do 3 nights in the golden triangle, see as much of it as you can!
I love this series of yours! Could you do a comparaison between my country Switzerland an another small country? Luxembourg, maybe?
Sure thing :D
greenland - cold af
iceland - cold af
thanks for coming to my ted talk
@Yee Haw
I mean, considering how north it is it’s not as cold as i thought it would be
Iceland isnt even that cold most often in the winter i only wear a shirt
The northerners (or just Norse if you don’t have much time) are exploring. They go north, from the north, to the northern north and they find some land, two types of land, and they name them accordingly ( PRANKED)
Houston we have a problem I actually heard his voice in my head while reading this 😂
I know this video :D
I'm Icelandic :D My wife is from Arizona though, we met on Facebook :P

One more difference: Iceland have a national football team they are going to their first ever World Cup. Greenland aren’t even a FIFA member, though I venture to guess that their citizens are technically eligible to play for Denmark if they’re so inclined
Yes, glad you brought that up. I couldn't verify it, but I'm pretty sure Greenlanders can play for the Denmark team for the World Cup.
I heard Greenland doesn't have a football team because they can't plant artificial grass for the pitch (or something like that, can't remember)
Some of the towns have artificial turf football fields en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Association_football_in_Greenland
Also fun fact, we're actually the first ever country to be qualified with under a million people in World Cup
Well, that was such a nice and relaxing video! Thanks, man. 😃

What about Denmark and Norway ??
"They find some land. Two types of land. And they name them accordingly. *P R A N K ' D !* "
Hey. Thank you for your comparsion. I enjoy it. You're rock.

You are too kind :D
The way you said all the icelandic words 😂 i almost chocked on some m&m’s

Well thank you. That means a lot :D
Hm Oregon and Washington. Less traffic in Oregon and cheaper to live than Washington. Western Washington is nice. Eastern Washington is kind of ugly. Eastern Oregon is very nice. That is about it.

Hello tina
I really liked this video anyway and did find it very interesting, but a quick tip here in case you wanna get even more and very accurate information about Iceland specifically and even learn a bit of the the language, you can always contact @Hrafna who's an icelandic TH-camr with really personal and charming content! I think you could get a lot of knowledge - either for another future video or just out of curiousity - from her, plus she seems like a very nice and genuine person to chat with! Hope that can be of any help to you! :) And lastly; great video!
I've watched Hrafnas videos too, they're great!
We are going to Iceland (2nd time there) in June , and may go to Greenland ? Thanks for this very informative video !
A flight to Greenland from Iceland costs about $300 per person.
Maybe consider Haiti & Dominican Republic?
P.s. I like the idea of more external videos!

Norway vs Denmark. We were in union for hundreds of years. Norwegian (bokmål) is basically just Norwegianized Danish, and we (Norway) have a saying that "it's good to be Norwegian in Denmark".
Yeah but spoken Norwegian is closer to Swedish. Why not just do Norway vs Sweden vs Denmark?
Sad that you lost your old language and took up Danish instead (yet the Norwegian pronounciation is much easier to understand ;) ).
old norwegian is similar to icelandic and faroese
That's actually a really good idea. I don't know who wins that one
True, I may not be able to understand the spoken word but the written one is not so difficult for me to read.
Yes yes yes please more of these comparisons. Germany and France would be an easy one to start with.
Iceland is very important to me, since Björk is from there and she is my favorite artist. I would love to visit there someday! Nice video
As a swede, when I got told iceland dont have mosquitos in the summer it really made me want to move.
yeah Inuits were the first to colonize Greenland.
Wow I just found this channel and wow well done on the name
I’m from Iceland and I gotta say.
Are we really less happy than a very suicidal country!!?
Denmark as a whole is the 2nd happiest, not Greenland itself
i am from Denmark, and lets just say that greenlandic people is a bit different in general than us danes, or scandinaviavians for that matter.
@@kulturfreund6631 It is correct in Danish atleast.

I am standing on what people call a holograph where the happiest people live
Oh God why would someone live there. Even mosquito didn't like it.
idk
Ammry 33, why would people not live there? Iceland is a beautiful country. I’ve been to Iceland once and I want to go back for another visit. I live in Greenland. Best place in the world. Sorry, rest of the world. The northeastern part of Iceland shares similarities with my area, Nuuk, in Greenland, but other areas of Iceland are very different to what we’ve got. We don’t have any volcanoes for one.
I've visited both Iceland & Greenland on a transatlantic cruise in 2013 & liked both! The Inuit children were
given the day off when our ship was in harbor (Qaqortog) treated us like visiting 'movie stars', i.e. asked for
our autographs! We also sailed up Prince Christian Sound to the "Most Northern Post Office in the World",
where we all mailed post cards home!
The people of Iceland (Reykjavik) were friendly & we also visited the bridge where the two tectonic plates
(North America & Europe) come together plus saw numerous geothermal steam holes! Both very interesting!
Good luck visiting both countries. Hotels are way-expensive in Iceland, and a plane ticket from Iceland to Greenland costs about 200.000 ISK, which is bout 2000 USD
P.S. I'm Icelandic
I found a plane ticket from Boston to Nuuk for $1344 USD. And it goes through Iceland.
@@carultch yeah - I just searched a random saturday in September & got 115.000ISK
@@alexfrance500 Is that period a number separator or a decimal indicator?
@@carultch seperator
@@elvarfossdal7821 That's one convention I'll never understand why it was done that way. Decimals and commas meaning the opposite in Euro-style numbers as they do in US-style.
The US style makes more sense to me, because commas are used the same way in numbers as they are in sentences. The decimal point ends the "sentence", meaning "I'm done saying the digits bigger than 1".
May I add that Iceland is also In the top 3 places of biggest user of anti depressants... And yeah I've been there, currently am there.. cuz I live here😂

How about a video about the Viking site in Newfoundland, L'Anse aux Meadows? Or about the Norse in North America in general?
