The running order favors Netherlands and Australia. The two jury favorite countries now has a chance to win the whole thing.
Esc Lover Us dutchies are actually really dissapointed with our placement, we think Australia has a really good place that will favor her. Interesting that you think that about us too! We are kind off thinking that we’re doomed 😳😜
Completly agreed, I would also add Greece as favored by producers. All these countries performed so close to the end of their semi finals, and now again they are close to the end of their halves. Producers should be fair and give everyone chance to shine. Czech Republic, Denmark and Belarus deserved much better positions.

@@sanne.x8351 the thing is Duncan took the paper with 1st half, and I think producers have put him in a VERY good spot at the end of the 1st half! Nearly the same happen in 2017 with Portugal in the 1st half of the final and Bulgaria in the 2nd half. Portugal finally won so, don't worry. I'll actually be more worried about Sweden being more "similar" and closer.

Norway is 15 not as "punishment" but to keep us awake between Israel and UK. Has real top ten chance.

Czechia usually doesn't do too well among the public, with the last year being the only exception, which might answer why we're seemingly purposely given unfavourable places. Maybe there's a slight bias against our former-Communist country in the ESC as well.
@Rasmus Andersson Nobody asked him, he is the producer who usually does this. It should be conflict of interest since he is also the producer of Melodifestivalen, but oh well.
Being 1st in the semi doesn't mean anything, there was no way Robin was going to be a NQ.

the eurovision community takes the running order too serious, its just a order, first: people will always vote for their countries second: eurovision fans will vote for their favourites .. so its again just a order

The producers heavily favored Netherlands, Iceland, and Australia. Wouldn't be surprised if they're the ones fighting for the crown! I'd LOVE having Hatari win, but the juries will probably prefer safe Duncan.

When I saw Australia’s position in the draw I thought Yes Yes Yes.We have the best position for a visually and vocally memorable song . Poor Spain and near the end of the acts it will still be in people’s heads when its time to vote. Best spot ever for this song.

I'm so pissed they put Albania in spot #2. They could have put Germany or San Marino in that spot. I think they wanted to smash it and make it easier for the ESC executives favourites songs to slight easily. Same with Russia 5 is such a bad spot. Anyway Albania will surprise them again!! 😀🔝🔥

Malta opening is a great choice, she will set a high bar, I’m sad they put Albania second though. Both of these songs are in my top 5 and I’m afraid people will forget about them. The Netherlands probably won semifinal 2, and I think 17th spot for Iceland suggests they at least won the televote in semi 1. I’m not happy with the fact that they placed France and Italy back to back, they will steal momentum from each other. Australia second to last is scary, I really dislike the song even though the performance is beautiful and impressive, I don’t want to see it win. Spain closing was expected, the best choice they could make! Switzerland coming so close to the end really sets them up for a top 3 finish! They are still in it to win it.

Im so excited for the final. so many good songs nothing stands out to me other than Australia and Netherlands which I loved in both semi's for the special energy and emotion that you could feel in the pavillion like time stood still and we were all swaying with her and playing a piano with him. thats the energy of a song that connects!

Because of this order, it seems like the winner could be Cyprus, The Netherlands, Greece, Switzerland, Australia or Spain.

I don't get the hype about Australia. Besides visuals the song itself isn't that good. The whole performance could easily be seen in a Disney musical or jesc.

I don’t think running order is that important, if people love your song, they love it and they’re gonna vote for you no matter where you place in the running order. Ukraine last year, for example, Melovin was the first to go and he was in the top 10 most voted by the public, so were Fabrizio and Ermal from Italy who were last. I think the people who love you are gonna stick by you no matter what.

Good spot for Iceland(=Lordi / Loreen) and they appeal to kids as well beleive it or not !

I was in semi final 1, around me were families with teens and they all exited the hall when iceland came to the stage. the parents were like: this is not for you, lets do a toilet break.. a flood of people were like: "not watching this freak show, terrible sound, coming back in 3 minutes"

I doubt Australia will do so well. Since 2016, when Europe got scared of a possible Australian victory, Australia didn't go far in the final. My guess is that we don't want a colony to surpass us

Oh Australia will do very well with the Jury's. I totally see Australia winning the Jury vote by far. However i don't think she will do as well with the televote. It reminds me a bit of 2016 where Dami Im won the Jury vote by a landslide and then only came 4th with the televote. I think Australia will do very well..probably come 2nd..But the Netherlands will win it for sure. Without the performance Australia would actually place much lower.

Songs between 10 and 14 and 20 to the end are statstically best positions i think
I disagree...The first half has too many strong songs and The Netherlands will perform in the end of the 1st half. So for me it looks like the producers helped them as much as they could.
late positions in either half are usually the dream spots for entries. The netherlands has got one of the best spots for their half as does Australia

It could actually be a repeat of 2017 where Portugal had 9 and Bulgaria had 25. So it could very well be that they considered Netherlands the winner and Australia the runner up.

Why isn't anyone talking about Russia 5th??? (Sergey reminds me of Sakis Rouvas. They both came 3rd when Ukraine came 1st and the second time they participated they performed early in the show, with the same songwriter and choreographer. So I wouldn't be surprised if he end up 7th! )😂😂

Putting the top favorite Netherlands sandwiched between Cyprus and Greece (2 also very strong presentations) makes me wonder why.. Is it to weaken those 2 or distract from the Netherlands and give a better chance to countries like Spain or Australia..?
I think they also want diversity in songs. Cyprus is upbeat, and then the calm ballad of The Netherlands

Cyprus mostly has good songs and entry but really not this year and Greece is okay at best. Duncan will shine between these two.

absolutely - yes! I watched a video on how they choose for the running order. Props and to make the show flow ie you can't have 12 ballads in a row followed by 12 up beat show stoppers. It's interesting. :)

A blind-lot drawing picked by each entrant is the only fair way. Why do this in picking which semi they enter

This is first and foremost a show, and they have to make it as entertaining as possible.

Netherlands will walk with the win, lets be realistic. And deservedly so. What is interesting is that we cant predict the rest! Sweden might not do well with the public, same goes for Australia and Malta. On the other hand Iceland might not do well with the juries. I believe the spots 2-12 are pretty open, and i see these countries in there: 2-5: Russia, Azerbaijan, Switzerland, Italy, in no specific order. Spots 6-12: Sweden, Australia, Greece, Cyprus, Iceland, Norway, Malta. Bottom3: Denmark, UK, San Marino.

Netherlands isn't in such a good spot, being between Cyprus and Greece will hurt him, same with Australia being between Switzerland and Spain, by the looks of things, Iceland seems to be the winner, being between UK and Estonia, this year is still very open

Why is nobody talking about Switzerland? I think they have a great spot and it favors them very much. It’s better than being on last and a perfect contrast to Australia. I think the running order from place 20 onwards is insane. One fave followed by the other. Russia is screwed with 5th place though. They could have easily given them 10th place and swap slots with Slovenia

Netherlands, Iceland and Australia have the best Running Order
The winner is unpredictable this year. So many potential winners this year.

I like this running order. I think it keeps the show interesting rather than randomizing it and potentially having the ballads surrounding something like Iceland which would be so jarring and it wouldnt look good at all for either.

In addition:
Albania must've finished 9th in their semi, every non-Big 5 song that performed 2nd since 2013 (except Belarus 2014) finished ninth in their semi
Wow, Russia must've done pretty badly to get the 5th slot, I think that Russia's out of contention for the win
Technically speaking, 13th is the best slot for a song, meaning that Greece did very well, probably 2nd, in their semi
@@xmyxymx The producers determine the order. On paper, it's to determine "the best possible show" but in practice, there are certain spots where badly performing songs are dumped, like the 2nd spot. As for the 5th spot, it has the 5th lowest average placing. Cesar performed there last year, but overall, most songs in that spot do lousy. So, it probably means that Russia did badly if they ended up in a bad spot. It's not a guarantee, but there's a strong chance.

I heard that Sergey's voice cracked in the jury final, so he probably didn't get too many jury votes and televotes weren't enough to push him to the top. Considering last week there was a chance that we'd be going to Moscow next year, that's pretty bad.

I notice you’re talking about first half and second half, but it seems they’re putting on more sets of adverts so that gives the songs on either side more of an edge. We don’t know where those ads are right now, though.

Serhat really can't sing - his song is more seen as a funny gimmick in the show. I see people liking this but especially the Jury will kill him. So thats why he is probably Bottom 5.
Germany is also very weak and the performance itself lacks some creativity. However it's about female empowerment and women supporting each other. Thats why i think that some people in the Jury or Televoters might vote for it still.
Estonia for me seems kind of soulless and bland. Thats why i think that he could be in last.
I think the jury will love Estonia and it's basically a pretty good song. I think it will decide between Netherlands, Italy, Russia or Iceland. Australia and Malta are kinda overrated in my opinion.
The running order is also influenced by the gender mix. The first half draw resulted in only 5 males, while the second half has only four females. So that's obviously been kept in mind and they've mixed things up to we won't get a giant sausage fest in the second half. Staging comes into it too. Australia would probably not follow a song with complicated props because the crew would want to avoid wheeling around Malta's walls or Sergey's screens alongside Australia's bendy poles.

Overall this is a very competitive semi-final 😮🤗 i'm surprised with some choices in the running order, biit it's globaly accurate

Are people just forgetting that Israel won their semi last year and Cyprus still got 25th spot? Or that Russia won their semi in 2016 and Armenia closed the final while Russia was 18th in the running order? Being later on doesn't mean you won the semi, being later on only means you scored high

I mean, the running order does seem to have influenced the second semifinal. All six of the last third of the competitors (nos. 13-18) made it to the finals. Half of the second third (nos. 7-12) qualified, while only one from the first third (nos. 1-6) made it. In a group of really good songs and performances, the running order seem to really influence the results.
