** UPDATE **
I found you can install .DEB files directly from the Files app, you just need to copy it to the 'Linux Files' folder first!

I have pixelbook and I installed openshot video editor . And when I open it it's says update available !

I got an Acer Chromebook for the holidays and I was wanting to know if it is possible to install downloaded program files that have the option to be installed on Linux? Like I try to use the Terminal to search the program or app I want but it doesn't show up, however when I go online the program says it has a Linux version. I download it only to seem to not be able to run/install it.

When i turned on linux, the grey box didn´t appear. I do have an app called terminator tho, so i went to check that out. but there is nowhere i can type anything, there are a few bars. If i click on ´´penguin´´ the box appears, but before i´m able to type anything it says ´´update needed´´, i don´t know how to fix it, and i´m pretty confused.

Great! Easy and clearly. But I've got the problem with a adding a printer. I have connected via WiFi printer, there's no problems with Chrome OS. But how I can add a printer in Linux apps such as Libreoffice?
Just a thought can you just print the file as a pdf file and move it to a folder that chrome accesses??

Installed Debian on Chromebook through Developer mode, updated and upgraded and then installed Tasksel to get Gnome desktop. Went through whole download routine and installed lots of apps in Linux folder but where is the desktop? Can't find it, can't get it.

Eevnos, what if I remove one of my accounts from the chromebook? Y'know when you just got a chromebook and open it, you have to add an account into it. If I delete that account from the chromebook, will I lose the files and that account? If not, then what if the account that I removed was the account I wanted to download Linux on? What then?

When you save things, from a Linux app, you'll be able to access it from the 'Linux Files' section in the files app.

What about appimage files ? Can thsoe be installed?
I don't believe it supports Appimage yet.
However, if you install full Linux with Crouton, you can run whatever you want.

Today, you must use crouton. Tomorrow (or whenever ChromeOS 76 comes out), you will be able to use this method.

I don't know if you can do it by default, but you could try installing the Google Drive sync tools for Linux.

Great Tutorial. There is one thing I am actually still fighting with: Installing Epson Scan!
There is a description at Epson how to do this. But I am really not able to install it.
Maybe your time will allow to show here how ti install it.

Epson scanners should work with generic scanning software. I used simple scan. I know it isn't as full featured, but it works. I have no idea if it would work on a Chromebook or not. I use it on a dedicated Linux box.
