Another good brutally honest episode, though I do want to note that this is recorded during the pandemic. Normally, KLM does offer the bread roll and from my experience they have always done the pre-lunch drink. I hope it will come back or it may have already come back by now tbh. KLM has reverted most pandemic measures.
Thank you for this video! I absolutely LOVE flying with KLM, especially on their A330s. I choose them all the time when travelling between eastern Canada and the middle east, and they almost always use their A330-200s which have the upgraded cabins and are more comfortable than their 787s or 777s. Their service is more than fine by my standards, and I agree that their cabin crew is consistently super friendly and motivated and helpful. Easily my favourite European airline.
Ive always wanted to see the Oman Air 787 Dreamliner in economy class! Im very excited, every video that comes out of this channel is high in quality, and I look forward to it every time.
Pillows are in fact available on intercontinental flights, but they are only handed out to passengers by the cabin crew on demand. They carry only a limited amount to reduce turnaround times
I have flown KLM a number of times starting in the 70s. My favorite aircraft was the 747. They have an unusual galley behind first class. The staff were also friendly. Plus you can collect the KLM Dutch miniature houses.
Always love seeing your trip reports and brutally honest reports. Glad to see another one! It has been a while since I saw one! Don't know why I never subscribed before this, but made a point of subscribing now! Keep up the good work!
Nice Episode! Over one third of all my flights I did with KLM, even I'm German. But due to the mentioned fact, that the crews of KLM are super friendly, flexible and carrying about their passengers, I would and will choose KLM before any other mayor airline in Europe.
Flown with KLM on planes such as the Boeing 747-400 and A330s between Toronto and Amsterdam in the early 2010s myself. I always had an amazing time with the Airline. Love the video as well, makes me feel like I am flying between Canada and The Netherlands again. 🥰
Another amazing episode!! When you boarded and I saw you were flying in the old cabin I at first thought like I hope it’ll survive this brutally honest review😅 But I’m glad you liked it! For years I’ve been dreaming to become cabin crew at KLM and every year I see the possibility to apply finally coming closer and closer (you need to be 21 to apply and I’m currently 18). Almost all of KLM’s A330’s are equipped with their new cabin, but I don’t know why this one isn’t. Especially while their business class on this aircraft has been renewed. Again, I’m glad you liked it, and hopefully see you on board in the future☺️
kinda strange how they massively upgraded the 747-400 cabins just a few years before they were retired and still leave the A330-300 with the old cabin.
The situation of clearing immigration and checking in again is common. I’ve flown on Qantas’ MEL-LAX and then on the tag flight to JFK where we had to do the same process. It’s understandably annoying…
i believe it has something to do with Covid rules since historically I have gone through YUL and YYZ from international to domestic without needing to clear security again. had this same issue of having to collect my bag and recheck at YUL last summer when i hadn't been required to in the past for the exact same itinerary. something about the testing requirements and possible quarantine of some passengers.
@@aselwyn1 yes true. My experiences were all pre-covid, where it’s a US customs and immigration arrangement upon your initial arrival into the country.
Great to see! Actually funny to mention that I've replaced those seat covers. Nonetheless KLM is a great company which is in my opinion a worthy dutch company to be proud of
Decades ago KLM offered an AMS-YHZ-YYZ routing. But when Canada Customs changed the rules so that you had to clear customs at the first landing airport they dropped the YHZ stop. It is interesting that they go through the hassle of a YEG stop now.
The YEG stop was just a thing during covid, as there wasn't enough demand for standalone YYC and YEG routes due to travel restrictions. Both airports have since regained their own nonstop routes with KLM.
KLM is one of those airlines that I love. They aren’t necessarily going to do things luxuriously, but they have such an extensive destination list that it makes them one of the most important carriers in the World.
On April 1, 2022 my wife and I flew from Johannesburg to Amsterdam a 10 hours and 15 minutes on a 777-300, in what the call “Europe Economy”, what ever that was, I had booked comfort economy, but at check in we were told it was overbooked, even though we had arrived almost 3 hours before flight time. It was one of the worst flights we have had in years. The leg room was very tight, the seats were thinly padded, with narrow short arm rests. The food was of indifferent quality. The plane was plane was packed, the crew remained friendly and gave service with a smile. My gripe is really about the cramped, uncomfortable seating for a long haul flight. (WHAT IS EUROPE ECONOMY?). The plane was late leaving Johannesburg, and we missed our connection to Boston. We were rebooked on a flight to New York instead, but at least we were seated in comfort economy.
Another awesome BA video, especially since this one featured my hometown Edmonton! One small thing, the t in Edmonton is a hard t, so it's Ed-mon-ten instead of Ed-mon-en :) Loved seeing the KLM experience, since they finally restarted the Edmonton to Amsterdam route, I can't wait to check it out myself!
Watching your reports always, but this one STANDS OUT, because I could see our house and neighbourhood when you flew over Edmonton (Millwoods). In fact I designed that neighbourhood around 1975/76 and choose that lot so I can see the planes from Europe coming in.(no KLM in those days, just CP air or Air Canada) I still film the KLM flights often when they come over.
Thanks for the tip. I changed my seat to 35A as I'm a leftie and I often prefer the left side of the plane. Window view will be useful on arrival from Toronto into Amsterdam.
Oh my. I Flew a KLM Dreamliner and I think Quit Brand new and it was a wow from Amsterdam to Calgary almost around late August. It had windows that go dark by the push of a button. There was tea Service in the Sky too. However it was a Lemon Tart but still very good. They gave me rools and a Vegie pasta and the Second one before landing a Pizza like thing. It was in Economy class but the Leg room and Service was still very good.
I do appreciate all your Brutally Honest episodes. Especially because you manage to always stay as objective as possible. Yet, I do not agree with you on the friendliness of the crews. Yes, they are not Lufthansa, but I dont think (being German myself) it can get worse than Lufthansa. I have been a Platinum Flying Dutchman and afterwards Platinum Flying Blue member for over 25 years consistently and stopped flying KLM altogether, because the crews became more and more "coudn't be bothered less" up to a straight forward"Lufthansanian" attitude. I own 3 full sets of houses from 1-99, just to give you a hint of how good a customer I was. Happily I'd return to KLM, once I hear their service and friendliness increases substantilly overall.
I flew the KLM to Curacao in october. On the departing jurney on an A330-300 with as stop in St.Maarten and on the return flight directly to Amsterdam on a B777. The B777 is way better in my opinion. Espacially if you are on the taller side. These Boxes on the airbus do really get in the way.
Wow you must have flown in the very last A330 with the old seat arrangement. That’s quit something. This brings me back when I used to fly with the 747 quite often
You are exactly right ! Canada's custom rules are extremely confusing and a waste of time and money. Specially in Toronto at Peasons Airport. KLM the Best !!!
I flew on the same aircraft between Boston and AMS recently. The economy class seat was terribly small. Their 777-200 and A330 have small seats, after flying on these planes to Mumbai I took a flight on Indigo. Indigo's A320 has better leg room and seat size, similar to what we get on Emirates A380 economy. KLM's 787-X has a better seating and also Delta's A330 on the same routes.
David this series has become my favorite on this channel. The tripreports are great but sometimes reports from flights almost 3 years ago are posted and as a result of the pandemic the product offered has changed so the report isnt really valid anymore.
I once went on an Air Canada flight from Sydney, (Australia) to Toronto, via Vancouver, all with the same plane. You have to clear immigration and do the whole security thing at Vancouver, and always significant delays occur. This was back in 2013, so it seems nothing has changed. The Canadian government need to work with airlines to try and implement a far smoother transit process. As it currently stands, it is very stressful.
KLM crew is just on point every time. They are not too serious but like to joke around a bit too. But the service is still great; i got wished a pleasant connection flight to Alicante when disembarking in AMS. It was in economy class.... How does that even happen?

However on my return trip, I had to go home from Chicago to Amsterdam in their A330. You can really feel that this plane is outdated and the seating space was defo not comforting for the 9 hour flight. But overall klm is a cool company to fly with. You get what you pay for.
Great report! Would like to mention all of KLM's A330's will be retired in 2025. I flew them long haul in april of 2021. A time the pandamic was at a high and no one entering the netherlands was allowed to enter without quarentine and test. Even during that time i had a pillow and blanket and got a bread roll on my 9 hour flight, weird to not see it on this flight.
Thanks for reviewing this flight as it was good as usual! Appreciate you visiting my home as this city is great! Also it is pronounced edmon ton not edmonon, but still great video!
If you want to get this great view of Greenland, you have to avoid the 787 Dreamliner because the cabin crews of all(?) airlines dim the windows (against your will!) shortly after take off :-(!
The decision to use Edmonton as a stop made sense at the time. It was only during covid, as there wasn't enough travellers to fill separate routes to Calgary and Edmonton. They've both got their own routes back now though, no more stopovers.
Why does this flight stop over in Edmonton with all that fuss? I would rather it just went direct to Calgary. Surely it doesn’t take that long to get from Calgary to Edmonton by bus/train?

The stop was only because covid restrictions meant there wasn't enough people travelling to fill two separate routes. The two cities have since got their direct KLM services back. Edmonton to Calgary is around a 3.5h drive/bus ride, and there are no trains connecting the two.
you can ask for a pillow and the missing bread…. well: we do not have a main meals with bread culture. So that’s you not having a ‘all is the same’ experiance. That is what makes travelling a great thing.
Hello, please review the business class of klm on transatlantic route. Thank you. All in all simply aviation always consistently beyond my expectation.
Weird about the lack of pillow, I had one when I went to Singapore with KLM in November 2021. Same with the bread rolls... I'm guessing there is going to be excuse of covid somewhere here.
Please remind us of your height when commenting on leg-room. It would have cost KLM about 2e to bring the meal up to scratch. As for crews, please do comment on them in every review. My own experiences with KLM, pre-pandemic, have been pretty good. Their long-distance flights seem to be good value-for-money and I'd be tempted to fly with them again once their operational performance gets back to normal.
I don't get KLM's marketing. They want to give you the ultimate Dutch experience with fresh coffee and delft blue patterns, but they refuse to do the safety announcement in Dutch. Their A330 is the best to fly long-haul, their 787 are extremely cramped.
Another good brutally honest episode, though I do want to note that this is recorded during the pandemic.
