    Sooo, you've decided to go electric, but you don't want to spend $60K+ on your first EV in case you don't like it? Yeah, that was me too. I decided to buy a used Tesla Model 3, but I didn't buy it from Tesla - I bought it from a third party, a Ford dealership!
    I knew right away I was going to have to do my homework, to make sure that by the time I left the dealership that my car was registered to me, attached to my phone, and synced up with my account.
    The problem is: the folks at Ford don't really know how to do that for a Tesla. And the company's own website is sort of confusing and cumbersome.
    So how do you take ownership of a used Tesla? What steps are involved? What should you be prepared to do at the dealership BEFORE you leave?
    I break it ALL down for you here - step by step. Just like the 'fuel' and design of these cars, the ownership process and required protocol is unlike any other car brand out there today.
    Hope this video helps you snag a GOOD DEAL and avoid any headaches along the way!

    A big shout out to you bro. I purchased from a non Tesla dealership and haven’t been able to take ownership of my Tesla 3 even though they told me it would take 3 to 5 days. I found your video and followed your advice and in less than 10 minutes it was released to me. Thanks again. If you’re ever in the area you got a steak dinner on me.

    We hadn't thought about this when I noticed a red Tesla Model 3 at one of our local dealers and stopped in for a look. We loved the car, the numbers worked out how we wanted them to and with a handshake and a couple plastic keycards, they sent us on our way. Oh wow, did we have a lot to learn. We went through the website and drove over to a local Tesla dealer and since the prior owner didn't release the car in the app or otherwise, we had a lot more trouble claiming ownership.
    Took a week or so fumbling with those plastic keycards until our ownership transfer completed. Lots of hassle but in the end, we know a lot more about the process now. Great video...

    I’ve been planning on this for quite some time. Even though Teslas seem pretty standard EV. I didn’t want a Chevy Bolt EUV and the Rivian is way out of my league atm.
    I couldn’t help but a couple features of my own. All wheel drive for the snow in the Midwest, long range for if I need to stay in an area at the end of an Uber night, and I just want my phone on me. I love technology more than food most of the times so passing out somewhere is not a problem for me.
    I’m ready to think bigger than Planet Fitness and Loves gas stations. I’m also a Full Sail University major. I will continue to mix music and videos with usb monitors in the back of my Tesla.
    My main concern is the handles and why they weren’t the kind that sticks out rectangularly when the doors are unlocked.
    I don’t plan on using auto pilot but if so I’d still keep my eyes on the road and hands above the steering wheel. The construction can get a bit persistent in any part of the USA from personal experience.
    It’s time for me to make money moves that decided, “hey, I just know what to do with all this gas I’m using when I could save the environment too.”
    It doesn’t matter which year Tesla I get as long as it’s a Long Range, AWD, and prestige between 2018 and current. I preferred Royal Blue and white interior. It’s so formal to do.
    It’s time to have something that blows cold and hot air while I use something electronic and not combustion which the extra range can account for the overnights. I’m a very clean person and I usually clock my breaks and meals well.
    Honestly I want to use this car to take as many breaks and nights off as I need. I swear. Uber is so fun. Being on the road is fun.

    Great video I wish I had seen it before purchasing my 2021 M3 LR. I bought it from a Mazda dealership only to find out a few weeks later several issues with the car.
    Lots of water gets into the frunk when driving in heavy rain.
    The brake reservoir cap was missing.
    The bolts on the hood had been removed and put back on.
    Both fenders had been repainted.
    The bumper had been repainted.
    The drivers side B-Piller had been removed and not put back properly.
    I got mine with 10k miles on it so unfortunately I was overly confident the car was in good shape.
    In two days on May 17th I'm having Tesla check the car over to make sure it still has the warranty since obviously something rather serious happened.
    The dealership showed me the CarFax report with no accidents listed.
    My advice asked the dealership if you can have the car looked over at your local Tesla service center. It's going to cost me $100 for them to go over the car.
    That $100 would have been the best investment i should have done in the first place.

Since I bought a used one from a non-Tesla dealership, I’m not sure if you can buy an extended warranty. I did not do so, either thru Tesla or a 3rd party. • @overdrive_reviews
      @overdrive_reviews  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I really wanted to try out the EV world but not spend a ton of money on a brand new one in case I didn’t like it or found it too cumbersome. For me, I wanted a Tesla that was a few years old (to get any kinks or recalls etc worked out), one that was long range and one that I could keep for a year or two, and then trade/sell when I’m close to 100K miles….I bought it with 72K. My advice if you’re buying a used one from a third party is to obviously test drive it, check what the car says its range is at 100% charge (to evaluate how much battery degradation the car has), and pay attention to the build quality: some Model 3’s do have panel gap issues, and some don’t. Mine doesn’t.

    • @tonymimi9715
      @tonymimi9715 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      My advice would be to schedule a test drive on new ones at a Tesla dealership near you. If that's not an option try renting one from someone on the Turo app for a day or two. I'm hearing that the Model 3 is the best bang for the buck.

    What if I don’t have a license but getting it financed and someone else got there license and is driving it off the lot for me?

      Lol that’s not a situation unique to buying a Tesla. Can’t answer that, that’s a question for your state’s motor vehicle or transportation department.

    Can you speak to the transfer of warranty for 3rd party? Does this happen when you take ownership on the app?

    • @overdrive_reviews
      @overdrive_reviews  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The warranty and battery warranty transfer with you! Batteries are warranted for much longer - usually 8 years, 120K miles!

      @@overdrive_reviews man that’s a remarkable warranty. Test driving a 2022 model 3 with 7,000 miles. Lots of warranty miles left. Just nervous to buy from used car dealership rather than Tesla.
      Thanks!

      @@willywonka2164 - best of luck! I bought my Model 3 with 72K miles on it, and I was prepared to do some 'higher miles' maintenance on it to get it up to operating speed. But I didn't really need to. So you should be just fine! Try to check the underbelly, for any major scraps, dents, etc,. that might indicate a hard blow to the battery (it's in the floor, if you didn't know). Also, try to check how many miles the car predicts at whatever the percentage is on the screen; that will give you a good idea of the degradation health of the battery. Mine, after 5 years and 90K miles, shows 284 miles at 100% state of charge. So do the math, it'll be helpful!

      @@overdrive_reviews very helpful. I canceled my test drive plans because it is raining here. I wanted to be able to look underneath and not get all messy. I'll for sure look at all your suggestions.

    Hey is it possible to pay mouthy for the car to own it??

      You mean like a lease?? Yes you can lease a brand-new Tesla but you have to turn it in at the end of the lease; right now, the company does not allow you to buy it at the end of the 3 years.

    Hi, now that you've had your Tesla for about a year and it looks like you might have bought it at around 72k, have you found any problems so far including the battery? Thank you!

      Hi there - no high voltage battery issues (the one that powers the motors and makes the car go) but my low voltage battery did conk out (that’s the battery that runs auxiliary stuff). $110 plus hour time to fix. I also had the upper control arms replaced on both front wheels, they were squeaking badly one day - easy fix at Tesla dealership. $300 max. I have 90K miles on it now, love it still. No big issues at all!

      You’ll have to do the steps I lay out in this video…when you type in your VIN - it’ll likely tell you that it isn’t ready for transfer yet and Tesla needs to take some action on their end.
