Calling it “flipping” paint just would not do. So the colloquialism “flip-flop” entered our lexicon, no longer just foot wear, but now, obviously derived from that ubiquitous term for an ultra informal shoe, but a follow-through to round out the a term for paint which “flips” color. If the industry used the term “flop” for perceived changes of hue depending upon the angle of observation PRIOR, to the custom paint world coining this term, I will stand corrected and beg forgiveness for steering anyone wrong. But in the automotive finishing world, flop is indeed the alteration of the perceived color by way of viewpoint, and is generally a derisive term, and is an attribute of inferior paint or paint application. Not generally desired. The question of whether paint flop is desired or not, can quickly be derived by the uniformity of its effect. A finish showing this “flop” only in certain areas is evidence of poor mixing, whether color mix or reducer or even hardener, poor distribution of pigmented solids in the basecoat itself, or improper application, often via irregular air pressure, or simply, being drunk on the job. I own both vehicles. The issue with the stalks is really a non-issue after 5 minutes you get used to it and wont miss it at all. 2024 its superior in every aspect and the old has the same battery and motors . Both are great cars
Agree. In roundabouts I can see what they are speaking of but being honest, I don't use them in roundabouts anyway, as traffic is all going in the same direction anyway so the guy behind me doesn't need to see an indicator if I'm in the right only lane.
I have been driving my new model 3 for 3 months and these guys haven’t touched upon soooo many positives and negatives I live with everyday in this car. They clearly don’t own one. You have to drive it for a while to really understand if it is true value. Overall, I am glad I bought it and it is my first ever Tesla. I have driven previous models and immediately can tell the difference - the new 3 is a luxury car. This car goes fast - Porsche fast. It cleans so easily - wet microfiber and dry microfiber to wipe dry. Gets dirty easily - cleans easily. The turn stalk gone sucks at first but now i don’t notice it. I drive 4-7 hours for business and this is a comfortable ride. Sound system is not so good - it’s ok but it’s no Harmon Kardon. Carpeting is cheap. Settle touches like how the door opens - wrap around lights, seat warmer and cooler are great. Cruise control is dangerous - when a large semi passes, especially on an arching corner - the car brakes and scares the shit out of you! I’m not kidding. I called Tesla and they listened I think - after my last computer update the issue improved but not 100%. I fear the unpredictability of the car at times but I also feared the 1968 Chevy Malibu from my past - especially in wet weather. Some times the wipers go on for no reason. I love how it locks when I walk away and my phone is notified when it’s almost charges. I wish more apps on the screen pertained to me but I love of fast you can take a corner - nice wide wheels. I don’t like how condensation still manages to get in even when you put the car in car wash mode but I really like how the navigation system is so detailed and user friendly. No car seems to be perfect - I have found the same disappointments in cars 3 times the price but you live with them. This is unlike like any car I have ever known - is it a sports car or a luxury sports sedan? Yes and yes, but it’s electric and is computer controlled, so no. Either way I am enjoying the experience and look forward to what the EV market will offer in a couple years from now.
I have a 2020 Model 3 and yes that cruise control is insane at times. It has led me to scream to the car multiple times. I’m a programmer I never scream to devices usually. Overall I love the car though. It’s so fast and smooth. It almost feels like you’re driving a motorbike while everyone else is using loud mopeds.
Just bought a 2018 Model 3 performance for $29k with FSD. I’m absolutely loving it for the price. Something to be said about such a value. Mine luckily was private owner and in great shape for 50k miles
@@jissanhuq3792 if the battery does happen to fail post-warranty then I would buy a new battery? Battery cost has reduced drastically in the last few years. Where previously (early twenty-teens) they were $20kish. Now they seem to be $10-15k from Tesla. Not bad considering that I’m not in this car for more than $30k. It would still be a total investment of less than a new model 3 performance. Warranty is 8 years 120k miles

A few weeks ago I test drove the 2024 LR. It was nice. I loved the quiet cabin and the quality of the stereo was better but there is something wrong with the spatial imaging of the speakers IMO. I don't feel surrounded by the sound as much somehow. I don't get a wide sound even messing with all the settings. If I'm comparing the stock suspensions between both the 2024 is MUCH better. However, I upgraded to adjustable comfort coilovers in my 2018 and the ride is very close with the 2024 a little bit more comfortable. In the end, my 2018 is just about paid off and it's still a great car so I've decided to keep rolling with it. At the price for the new Tesla 3 as they say like 54K ? that would make one wait a bit longer for Rivian R2 that just launched and is ready for orders will be available on Europe as well or if that is too much off-roady for citizens, the Hyundai ioniq 5N that is a much proper hatch with some cool tricks up in it's sleeves..
@@poplaurentiu4148 Yeah those look awesome. Only thing I would question in the range and overall efficiency compared to Tesla. I want Rivian to succeed and I hope the R2/3 gets them there.
Model 3 LR weighs less than a Kia Stinger, Acura TLX Type S, Dodge Charger….etc. Tesla vehicles are actually quite light for the amount of power they offer.
I have a 2023 model 3 and I was given a 2017 model S P100D as a loaner while they serviced my car. I would not trade the 2 in a million years. The vertical screen sucks, layout is awful, quality is terrible, steering wheel is awkward. Now if you compare a 2023 and up model S they’ve fixed all those problems but an older version is pretty bad.
50k is for the performance, extra motor, and bigger battery. The 38k Tesla is literally the same amount of goodies minus 100 miles of extra range, the extra motor, and performance.

I have a 2018 rwd long range sinilar to the one in the video. It was shipped across the Pacific to hawaii and back and was weighed for the ship. The total weight ready to drive with the included charger was 3549 lbs. After replacing the very bad made in mexico stock shocks with a set of koni fsd dampers the car has a hilarious ability to carry speed on a bumpy back road. The rwd model 3 being rather light up front has a suprisingly nice rear weight bias feel. I have no issues keeping up with my freind in an e46 m3. I myself also own an e46 vert and I also feel like I cant drive as fast in that car as the model 3 with proper shocks. No longer nerfed by trash dampers the car gains this complaince finally able to breathe and flow with the road. The whole set is not expensice and highly recommended for all older model 3s. Really changes the way the chassis feels.
Had many BMW's and now stuck with the 2018 Dual Motor. I actually prefer the Model 3 but do find the rear seems the area that needs addressing. The front has instant turn in, good grip, and then the rear seems like a firetruck where it's waiting to see what the front is doing. My gut says rear springs are too soft as it's unsettled at high speed. Is that what you have found?

I just bought a 2022 Model 3, Standard Range RWD for $18,900 after the $4000.00 federal rebate. It has 77,000 miles on it, and it is immaculate. It looks almost brand new. It had one owner and hasn't had any accidents. Even the wheels are in good shape and are not scratched. The battery is in great shape, and it has only lost 3%-5% range. @@TwinsAndAPitBull interior wise, maybe. But be real. A Model 3 Dual Motor long range is faster than any 3 series. Performance wise, compare it to a 3 series and not a Kia. My comparison still holds true 😂
I think a more fair comparison is a new 2023 Model 3 and a 2024 model 3. I bought the 2023 model 3 for about 28k (After tax credits). I like its look much more. If you show the design of the two cars to someone who has never seen a model 3 before, they would probably pick the 2023 model. People are just used to seeing the old one around and think the new one is cooler. The lights on the new one are really good on their own, doesn't really go well with the car though. Kinda reminds me of ionic 6. The old one is more reminiscent of the Porsche aesthetic. The back lights look like the older lobster lights of Honda civic. The accent lights are a gimmick. Maybe teenagers will like them. The wood interior is far superior than what is on there now. And loosing the stalks was the last straw. The only pro I see is the quieter ride. To me thats not worth an additional 25k. I am in love with my 2023 model.
The new one has: a (much) quieter ride, more comfortable frequency adaptive suspension, crisper hardware 4 cameras, an extremely improved sound system, far better Wifi and Bluetooth connectivity (phone unlock is much more reliably than in older models), much sexier looking rear end, adaptive matrix LED headlights activated now in Europe, overall very much noticeable build quality improvements in the interieur (thank god got rid of that wood trim!), ventilated perforated seats (very very nice in hot summer days), new version of upper control arms so they don't start to queak after 40k miles
I don’t know what you are talking about. My car is quiet enough, don’t need it to be any quieter. My phone unlock is super reliable, never had it not work for me. My sound system is AMAZING, better than any of the fancy cars I have driven as well. Maybe the new one is slightly better, but who cares. I disagree the rear end is sexier. It’s flat out boring and ugly. Maybe some people like the tesla being spelled out. I hate it. I have not had any build quality issues so far. Maybe that will change in the future. I’ll give you ventilated seats. But if given the choice id still probably choose the leather seats because they look better. California weather is not so bad that I would need ventilated seats. But yeah it’s helpful to have it. But once again, no way are the upgrades even close to justifying paying an additional 25k. I am very very happy with my purchase. But hey maybe they make sense for you, so you do you. :-)
Did you say the old one only had 50k miles?! I've got a blue 2018 with 50k miles and the interior is practically mint. One squish on the passenger seat bolster and that's really it. On the outside I've got some paint wear on the side skirts right behind the front tires and that's really the extent of the damage out there too.
I upgraded from my 2020 Model 3, which had about 79,000 miles, to a 2023 Model 3. It was white with a white interior, just like when I first got it. The interior and exterior didn't wear out. It all depends on how you use and maintain them-they're excellent cars.

Props to the videographer - really nice, cinematic shots and overall look.
5:04 Harrison you and I and karston all agree this was the best part of the video and the ending with it as well. James delivers it perfectly and what a powerful kick. Chuck Norris would be so proud I want to see Thomas do this next. Then Harrison don’t make James upset. I need to process the greatness of this scene
THANKS
I have had my 2024 model 3 for about 3 weeks now and I can confirm all of this to be true
Great write-up!
Awesome write up here. Why don't you make videos? Very good take.
Just bought a 2018 Model 3 performance for $29k with FSD. I’m absolutely loving it for the price. Something to be said about such a value. Mine luckily was private owner and in great shape for 50k miles
And what’s the plan in 3 years when you have to consider a new battery? I’m actually pro EV but used seems like a difficult proposition
This warranty also covers if the battery degrades below 70% of original capacity. We are seeing I believe degradation of around 1-2% every year though
@@TheAventadorSV it’s certainly not a rip off for me. Considering I wanted this specific trim. I was cross shopping with a Miata at the same price point and this made more sense for my long commute. But to each their own

“The frog has become the snake” was a great way to summarize the design change. As not a car guy, I actually thought the frog was cool too. In the US I haven’t been in a position where not having indicator stalks would be a significant issue, but I understand that some people and places would have a lot of difficulty.
They'll probably activate auto turn signals for drives when you use the nav system.
I've got a Tesla 3, 2024 edition without stalks.
I was worried about it when getting it, but now I'm used to it, it's fine. Hope it helps.

Agreed! The removal of the indicator stalk is downright catastrophic!
It is the single reason why I rejected Tesla for my next car. I need my driving to be familiar. I can't be goofing around looking for indicators when driving at 70 mph on a busy highway.

I have an identical 2018 M3LR (even in blue!) Owned for 5.5 years and 40K miles on it and it is still pretty much new. I don't know how that one is so beat up! Maybe the federal tax credit will come back someday and I'll consider it again but for now I'm keeping my 2018.

My biggest argument for the old one is for 40-50k you can have one ‘24 model 3, or for the same price get TWO older/used model 3’s.
Crazy that this 2018 is falling apart. I bought my 18’ with 50K and nothing is falling apart. The trunk liner is falling off, but that’s because it’s held on with adhesive tape instead of plastic pins like every other manufacturer. Drives great, the sound quality is amazing and the low cost of driving is awesome

As the owner of a 2020 M3, I haven't found the build quality to be an issue at all. I actually find it to be well above average.
“They haven’t improved their quality so you might as well buy the one that already fell apart.” Wow.
Recurrent states it has retained 253 miles of its original 272 mile range
In real money (actual cost), it's $26,000 cheaper than the 2024 Model 3 Standard Range. To me, buying the 2022 was a no brainer - its not even close.
My car also has the same wheels as your 2024 Model 3.
Was that one owner Hertz who rented it to Uber or Lyft? LOL
@@sunnysider6350 Stupid people (like you) ask stupid questions. I might have been patient with your question if you were not such a smartass. And no, Einstein, it was privately owned, it was not a Hertz rental car. Regardless, AS I SAID, the car is in immaculate condition and the battery retains 95% of its capacity. I recently charged it to a 100% and it showed a 258 mile range. Brand new 2022 only got in the high 260s because the battery percentage on new Teslas drops at least 3% within the first few months (on all Tesla models).
BTW I wasn't bragging. I was providing additional information for readers interested in used Teslas.
You guys said more in five minutes about buying a used Tesla than most other channels have said in 3x that time. A great succinct way to make me really consider if purchasing one used (not considering new) is the way to go, or just continue to buy petrol until the quality improves.
Something extreme to keep in mind is that even a used tesla is still going to come with new tesla maintenance costs being required to take it to the stealership for any repairs
50 thousand? I thought the purpose of the Model 3 was to be affordable.

I think the base starts at 38k, that's the all wheel drive version
