I like your assessment. I just have one thing to pitch in. It's time to stop thinking about keeping cars for only 5 years. That is an artificial length of time created by the auto industry to sell more vehicles. Tesla vehicles, provided they don't have all those problems from day one like yours had, should last 7-10 years easily. This means you can expect to drive it for quite a while after it is paid for. Also, since it is paid for at that point, any small repair costs are still cheaper than trading it in for another one.

Yes! Future planning from past experience is important. And atop daily/weekly mileage for battery size, increasing years of ownership will also reduce overall costs. We owned our past car for 14 years (and still budget to own and maintain to this day) when we decided to buy; and we plan to own our EV for at least 10 years, if not the lifetime of the vehicle.

He spot on about buying an EV with the longest range, for the life of me, I've watch some performance Tesla videos and I saw a guy charge 3-4 times on 1 trip and I think the length of driving the vehicle was 5-6 hours. One other thing I never hear about but learnt from experience is to check which version of the MCU is installed. It’s a $3000 upgrade to get the latest if you buy a Model S from before late 2018 and without it you miss out on video entertainment and upgraded visualizations.

It is nice to monitor the state of the art wit FSD software updates, but it just a science experiment at this time.

I think the year, vs features matters more now for instance model 3's pre 2021 are lacking the heat pump, which helps increase battery performance. Also newer designed motors and battery technology make a difference in models near the 2019 and 2020 years.

I can second your experience and knowledge (coming from 3yr old Model 3 owner). All solid points esp “cruise control+”… well explained. I think for new EV owners that range loss/degradation/calibration should be the big think to familiarize (since it gives real range!! given range is no 1 factor for me as well). Ballpark, you do lose about 30-40 (more like 35%) in practical use given the 10% low end of charge and 80/85% high end of typical charge and some degradation/range calibration issues.
Would you recommend any sites (aside from Tesla which seems actually quite nice but it’s mostly new pre owned vs genuine pre owned by price)? Carvana seems very very high for some reason

    Hi Ben!
I live in Sweden and our used Tesla prices on the Tesla web-page are ridiculous. We have 60.000kr (7100 dollars) tax credit on new cars after 6 months of ownership which makes a new Tesla model 3 worth 640.000kr (76000 dollars) after incentives. A used one, 1-2 years old with same specs is PLUS FSD is 700.000. FSD alone is worth 77.000 when ordering. So for 17.000kr (2000 dollars) I get the latest mode with all the new goodies. I’ll never buy a used model 3 in Sweden. Just thought I’d tell u how it goes here! :)

Can I add a couple of used Tesla benefits?
    1. AP1 has lane change control with your turn signals.. the base version of new AP does not.. unless you pay for FSD
    2. a lot of the newer/used Teslas have FSD already... so for less than $50k you get an amazing car, with FSD with free connectivity etc.
    3. Sunroof... I love my sunroof
    4. some may not like this but, real leather
also, tires are a real problem on the bigger wheels, stick with the 19s on a model S.. for range and for life of tires
One more, when you buy used, the previous owner already worked out all of those new car kinks.. like the Y is having.. spending time at the service center for door handles or other issues.
I love my used Tesla, it feels like new with the new MCU2

I’ve driven Tesla Model 3 for 5 years and finally thinking of upgrading to Tesla Model Y as I feel it is getting harder and harder to get in and out of my Tesla because of my back issues. Other than that I don’t have much requirement but the recent drop in process got me thinking again if I should get a new or used. After Tax credit new and old are quite close. It’s a no brainier for some but I’m thinking I’ll get FSD for cheap in older cars. I’m also not happy that dropped prices depreciated my cars value to less than half. I’ve used Enhanced pilot for my office commute and find FSD quite promising. And watched this video to validate my decision. I agree with the author advise to stick with basic autopilot and don’t pay for enhanced Autopilot for newer buyers. Enhanced autopilot is Not worth the 6k. But when it comes to FSD I’m curious. I like to know what problems I’ll face if I try to buy a 20k miles mileage 2020 Model Y as against 2021 or 2022. Is there any difference ?

Bought my 2018 M3 standard range+ at a Florida mega dealership - I would not recommend doing this for the unanticipated..
Essentially, the salesman knew almost next to nothing (as much as me) about the car.
In fact they desperately tried to sell me a “key replacement “ add on?.. $699 💩
Did I love the mega dealership experience-Absolutely not!
Do I love the Tesla - A resounding Hell Yes 🤙🏼
    * My recommendation*
New or used - Buy through Tesla 👍🏼

      Oh c'mon now..
Thats why you Google stuff to get information and become educated. You watch TH-cam videos or go to Tesla blogs or to Tesla's website.. Its not hard to learn if you are truly into buying a Tesla. There are different battery sizes, different motors, single motor or dual motor, rear wheel drive or all wheel drive, standard power or performance power..
No different than buying a Toyota Camry with the various engines, trim levels and different suspensions..

    • @caraddict8942
      @caraddict8942 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@@mamadouaziza2536 That’s somewhat true, but the Internet doesn’t diminish the fact that the used market is confusing! Does the Camry have different autopilot hardware? Does it have different gas tank sizes? This isn’t about a Camry. Just because something can be found on the Internet doesn’t mean it isn’t confusing?!! Do you know that the 40D is actually a range limited 60D? Did you know that the 60D Model X is actually a range limited 75D?

Are you trying to buy a Tesla or become a Tesla engineer?
Do what everyone does, buy according to your budget and lifestyle. The older Teslas do not have FSD and obviously they have the older version of AutoPilot.
You can't make an old car new no matter how hard you try.

I wonder how much of the AC issue on the MX was because it was driven so little by the first owner? Several years ago I had a car that didn't get driven much for about a year. When I started driving it again regularly, the AC was my biggest issue. Could be the same thing on the MX, not specific to the car, just that the AC needs regular use or it starts to degrade and dies prematurely.

  • @fullyelectric

Great 👍 tips .. for me the model S is the best Tesla after owning both model X and 3 ..
other family member owning the S had overall less issues and the model S looks better imo.
As for range I would advise don’t go by any EPA numbers for Tesla, look at tested real world range at speeds you more than likely normally drive at, one thing you don’t want to end up doing is buying a more expensive car, going EV just to end up driving slower than you normally do ..

Buying used directly from Tesla is tough. You don’t get to see the car before delivery. It’s a $500 deposit and any transportation fees from $500 up to over $2,000 will be forfeited if there is something about the car you don’t like. No warranty will fix that issue. Be very sure you’re all in on the car if you go direct. I went with Carvana on my third Tesla. 7 day return policy. Will get to see and rest it for u to 400 miles or 7 days. Can return with no fee.

I really want a Tesla- but also kind of hard to justify the high cost with so many issues across all models. I feel like with any other car brand it would be unacceptable to have such poor fit and finish and unreliability.
Not to mention any cost savings on gas are out the window if I have to replace the tires every 20,000 miles.

Buying used through Tesla basically forces you into full self driving. They don't sell used cars without it for some time now. It's a cheaper way to get FSD than new if you want it, but if you don’t you can definitely find cheaper options.
