Not sure if you want to do this or not, for your transport belt production you can limit the inventory size of the chest to conserve resources :-) (just hit the red X)
Ziesteau, you can shift right click to copy a setting of a machine, and shift left click to paste it. So setting a recipe for 10 assembly machines need only take 10 seconds. Same goes for smart chests/inserters
I went and got this game after your first episode. Put about 10 hours into it before I realized I could pick things up off of the ground. That mechanic changed my life. Great series. Thank you for introducing me to this game.
Really loving the series so far, keep it up Z! And also consider looping the ammo belts back around to the start so you dont have to worry about one side running out of ammo
loving this series, it's not often that a game comes along that I'll trust when still in development, much less one i feel i need to buy the minute i see footage of it, factorio definitely hits the mark, so thanks for sharing it with us.
Great editing job on these! I don't know exactly how much content you cut out, but thanks for keeping it limited to the interresting bits! Loving this series, keep it up!
Hey Z, liking this series and i've also spent alot of time on this game. You're doing a great job at explaining stuff. Feedback: biters can damage turrets placed next to a 1 block thin wall. Can't wait til you get to logistics tech, thats when the crazy starts :D
Love this game, i played it some time ago. Thanks to Z, im getting into it again. And first map i start, i had the most GLORIOUS! Starting location you could ever imagine. I was in the middle of a lake, with 1 land tile surrounded by 8 light blue water tiles, after that was the dark blue water that you cant enter anymore. You have to admit. The aliens, will NEVER get me there!
Thanks a lot for making this :). I love that Factorio game so much as it brings up that ol "transport tycoon" vibe i had so long ago. You certainly make things on a massive scale mate. I did learn a few tricks from your videos that will certainly help me out. So when my shuttle crashed i was in a forested area that had a lot of water, coal, iron and oil, but copper was nowhere to be found. As i like to play the hand that i was given in most games like these, i started scouting out a lot to find a suitable location for my base that had everything i needed. Unfortunately the nearest copper ore was like 10 miles away from my chosen base site so i had to do a lot of remote mining for a long time. I did manage to automate research but all the copper came from boxes because i had to travel a few miles to get it and the terrain makes belting almost impossible. Things got a lot easyer when i got the car and i could fill it's trunk with the precious ore. Aslo, the car is AWESOME! :) I'm a green person and like to keep the impact to the environment as low as possible so i cut very few trees around my base and although it made building large scale automation hard, it did help me out by making a natural defensive barrier. I just used 2-3 turrets on all my forest entrances and it was enough for defense. I will manage to get automated copper after i can destroy the many skitter nests that are always near it :) Anyway, that is my story in Factorio so far. Have fun :)
I didn't know about the game before, but now i really want to play it. It looks amazing, and you're doing a great job at explaining it (at least from a "i don't know anything about this game" point of view, i can understand everything you're doing) while also doing something entertaining. Keep it up Z, you're awesome!
Great start to the series. :) One thing I would like to see more of is the zoomed out view of the whole base so we can see where everything is in relation to everything else.
This is actually a really awesome series, you are explaining things just fine and anything I'm curious about I'm sure you will get into in the future episodes. I want moar!!
You're doing a great job with pacing and explaining things on this series. Seems like a lot of fun, hopefully later on you'll show off how to take the fight to the bugs. Automation first sure, but taking on those nests seems like an exciting endeavor for later in the game. :3
Wow. I've watched 2 old videos from you and I love your stuff. I started browsing through your new videos and I'm now subscribed. Way to go an being super interesting! I'm about to start playing this game and this looks VERY helpful!
I just wanted to thank you, i've learned so match from those 2 videos! I'll keep watching cause there are a lot of things that i want to learn from you, keep doing those videos ;)
This series is great! Automation and designing ever more complex systems is _awesome_, but I don't have time to play games like this myself these days.
One thing z..... you need to either double your walls, or move the walls outward so there is at least 1 space between them and the turrets... the biters can reach PAST the walls and hit the turrets the way you have it built.
guaymaster True, but it is still a good idea to leave a space between the turrets and walls, so they have to get through both layers to hit the turrets, instead of only 1. I really should have made that point in my original post, instead of an either or argument. So i do stand somewhat corrected regardless. XD
darkfalcon59925 Ah, I see what you mean. I don't have the game, so I don't know much about it, so I just thought you missed the moment when Z said that and wanted to point that out :)
3:30, I like the idea. It avoids using red inserters. However, i'm interested to see how you go managing compression on the lines and also this prevents the setup from being easily upgradable. In fact you mention it later that you'll have to upgrade it. Also, dick & balls design. 13:47 using a splitter there instead of drawing straight from the line will prevent that from eating all your iron supply and choking off the downstream assemblers. Also, you didn't limit the production, that's going to make belts for days... 28:10 large biters can attack over the walls. That turret placement could end badly. Also with the addition of spitters, that's gonna be a lot of fun to defend. 29:50 something to think about for long auto loaded gun turrets, you can have a situation where upstream turrets will choke off supply to the downstream ones if you have attacks in multiple places and too much load on the ammo supply. I'd double the compression for starts and either think about using splitters to jump large segements of wall to ensure flow to the turrets further downstream. /end essay, good episode, looking forward to more there are going to be some really fun times coming up :D
"Dick & balls design." Is that a legitimate term that has been coined for a type of inefficient build, or are you just making a joke? Because it really sounds like it could be a thing.
That isn't inefficient at all. In terms of getting two different kinds of resources onto a belt, it is actually a very good way of doing it. It was just a joke because you know, it kinda looks like a penis.
So if you see one thing is low, you'll increase another thing? How does that work? Does the another replace the one, or does it nust get your attention off of it?
Looks like the nearest oil patch is north right near that big biter nest. This could get interesting since oil is essential for the mid to late game :D
Zisteau, it is a fascinating game. You move so fast I have to replay the video many times to get all the details, which are fewer than I would wish. Is there some way you can post some clips which detail how each machine works in relation to what your goal is, e.g. moving from mining to smelting to fabrication to distribution, etc. I am working with my grandson and trying to see if it is something he could do on his own. He already views your Minecraft series(es).
On a game with normal sized biter nests is it worth putting that much effort and resources into turrets and automated loading when they will get superseded by laser turrets? So much precious iron burned up...
***** Hi there Peter. I am playing a random game with default settings. I made my base in a forest so that helped me out a lot with defense because i had a natural tree barrier (they never go through the forest). I think on a mission with default settings you can do with 3-4 turrets max per defense point. Also i found that creating an ammo belt was useless as i could just load them with 100 clips and they never seem to run out. Just make ONE ammo machine that puts it in a box, limit the box size to only a few slots and you will be set for ammo for a long time. I managed to defend my base fairly easily with 2-3 turrets at each choke point/entry point until i got laser turrets. However, when the big skitters start to show you need to focus on defense because they will break 3 turrets like they're paper. Or use defensive walls and place the turrets one space behind the wall. Hope this helps.
Just to make sure, I just got the game and figured out I needed to update it to the latest 0.11.17 to get the MP mode, now will this serie help me out in my adventures or I'm better with someone else that would play with less bitters nests, just want to learn everything peacefully if its even possible.
Your smelting set up confuses me, how are the inserters getting the iron? Because they pick up from the opposite side of the conveyor belt it would be picking up coal... not iron.
Downloaded the game yesterday (totaly my gametype) but why is my character looking different and why do i have 3 techs less ??? Are there some kind of beta-versions?
go to the download tab on the factorio website and click the button "experimental" to download the newest(but not nessesarily most stable) versions of factorio.
New nests can spawn? Is there a limit to how close to you they can spawn? Like, could you wake up one day to find a nest in the middle of your factory complex?
Not sure if you want to do this or not, for your transport belt production you can limit the inventory size of the chest to conserve resources :-) (just hit the red X)
Hey there X. How it feels to watch someone do series you have done in the past but in a different way?
Ziesteau, you can shift right click to copy a setting of a machine, and shift left click to paste it. So setting a recipe for 10 assembly machines need only take 10 seconds. Same goes for smart chests/inserters

Great series. Thank you for introducing me to this game.
14:46 I can't believe he missed that his 3rd ammo wasn't getting iron plates, love the video for that in particular XD
Fantastic description by the way.
Conveyer belts are used to automate the shooting of Aliens. I guess that counts.
I will be waiting for a description along the lines of: I play a game that is so automated, I don't even play the game.
This is quickly becoming my favourite LP series on TH-cam.
Really loving the series so far, keep it up Z! And also consider looping the ammo belts back around to the start so you dont have to worry about one side running out of ammo

Great series! I just bought the game because of these 2 first episodes. I really like these logistic/automation games.
Keep it up, Zed!

Loving the Factorio series! Thank you so much for providing consistent, amazing content and I strive to be like you one day.
What does supported mean, I googled it and nothing showed up.
***** Supported means they donate money to the youtuber.

Nice Z, real nice. Now you have me addicted to another series. Loving this one.
moreeeeee. this is the only series I've actually sat down for a half hour to watch :)
I love this series! Awesome pace, great explanation, you make me want to play this!
Great start to the series. :) One thing I would like to see more of is the zoomed out view of the whole base so we can see where everything is in relation to everything else.
@31:05"Cooking with grease" is just a figure of speech because Zisteau prefers to cook with lava.
Hey Zisteau just wanted to say i really enjoy this series!
This is actually a really awesome series, you are explaining things just fine and anything I'm curious about I'm sure you will get into in the future episodes. I want moar!!

Thanks for showing me this game! I'm loving the series and the game it self. I wanna try it for myself next time :D
Just bought the game after playing the demo thank you for showing me this game Munch Belgian love, can't wait for next episode
Wow. I've watched 2 old videos from you and I love your stuff. I started browsing through your new videos and I'm now subscribed. Way to go an being super interesting! I'm about to start playing this game and this looks VERY helpful!
i love this series. Not planning to play this game myself, but it seems pretty fun
Z, I feel like I'm watching Kiazo Caverns again. This is a lot of fun to watch, keep it up!
This is such an awesome game, Im definitely getting it as soon as. Keep it up Z
Every time Z says, "Quick and dirty," take a shot.
Awesome vid Z, don't worry about going to fast, that leaves something for us to explore if we were to play it ourselves :)
I just wanted to thank you, i've learned so match from those 2 videos!
I'll keep watching cause there are a lot of things that i want to learn from you, keep doing those videos ;)

Seconded.
I would even argue that making double walls one space from the turrets is a good idea.
He said that he would like to double the walls, and started doing that at the very end of the video.
guaymaster True, but it is still a good idea to leave a space between the turrets and walls, so they have to get through both layers to hit the turrets, instead of only 1. Love you and the series, Z!
I love the series man, keep up the good work! If you're able to get episodes up daily, please do! thank you.
I love how much Z gets done in one episode.
Loving the series, in one day you convinced me to buy the game :)
wooooooooo Factorio. More please.
Man, I am loving this let's play so far! I can't wait to atually play this game myself one day.

Did i hear you say "Let's not go crazy"....? Who are you and what have you done with Zisteau!!
Welcome back to Fact-Oreo!
fanta-stick one
Damn you Zisteau. Because of your first Factorio video I'm down 13€ and 10 hours thus far.
"10 hours"... if I only knew back then 😂
MORE!!! What is this awesome game! love it!
I love this series!
I love this game!
you sold me! just bought the game, looks awesome
This game has changed so much
ALL THE FACTORIO
one of the three iron plate into ammo automatic crafting things wasn't on and gave me anxiety rip
Watching you run past that third ammo maker over and over again without connecting the iron plates to it almost killed me...
This game looks fairly amazing.
Zisteau, the biters can reach your turrets if they're directly behind the wall. Either move them one space back or double-wall.
He said he was going to do a double-wall.
he did mention he was planning on doubling that wall
I really like the serie! Please do more :)
15:08 Not fast inserters, Fast *belts*.
best series ever !!!
So if you see one thing is low, you'll increase another thing? How does that work? Does the another replace the one, or does it nust get your attention off of it?

how do you have.3 of a boiler
YES PART 2!!
Do the ore deposits ever run out?
They must of come from....
They must of come from....
They must of come from up there!
CAME
Watched sevadus play this... wasn't aware there were aliens... i should probably pay mote attention.
this seems like a perfect game to stream ;)
I thought about getting this game awhile back. Seeing you play it makes me want to play it again. Do you plan on making a train extension? :P
I have a hard time following along but I think that's just because everything's so new.
Oh wow the game has changed so much.
Just to make sure, I just got the game and figured out I needed to update it to the latest 0.11.17 to get the MP mode, now will this serie help me out in my adventures or I'm better with someone else that would play with less bitters nests, just want to learn everything peacefully if its even possible.
just downloaded the demo, but im almost sertain, im gonna buy this!
never felt the need to automate wall production
can i get the seed for this map plz it looks awesome to play......
sick defense
301th. Yeah. Factorio. Want more. And ksp. Yes. That. More!
Im watching in the 2,000,000,000 century.
i like that in the first episode i understood everything but now im like 0_0 wtf?
Holy shit this video was fun to watch. Almost better than me playing it, not as frustrating lmao
How / where did u learn to do all that?!?!?
try and error.
Dat Description tho.
for some reason automation remind me of simcity :D all those belts are streets and facilities are town buildings
When's ksp coming back?
Your smelting set up confuses me, how are the inserters getting the iron? Because they pick up from the opposite side of the conveyor belt it would be picking up coal... not iron.
That only applies for dropping stuff. Inserters can pick from any side, but they prioritize the closest one.
I started playing today though.
Interesting. Gotta move fast in this one, or die. Seeing as how I was never good at redstone, I'm not sure how good I'd be at Factorio lol.
I love how OCD he is about the whole symmetry thing.
this is one game where that will actually help quite a bit methinks
Your good at factorio
Downloaded the game yesterday (totaly my gametype) but why is my character looking different and why do i have 3 techs less ???
Are there some kind of beta-versions?
go to the download tab on the factorio website and click the button "experimental" to download the newest(but not nessesarily most stable) versions of factorio.
Ah okay, must have missed that.
is the game like if u die u lose ur world ? :C
New nests can spawn? Is there a limit to how close to you they can spawn? Like, could you wake up one day to find a nest in the middle of your factory complex?
yes the code doesn't allow nest to spawn within a certain radius of stuff you placed
They don't really spawn. Sometimes a group of bites go on a journey to found a new nest, kinda like bees do it.
It is 13 Boilers to 10 Steam Engines.
Can this be daily? Please???
*cooking with gas
Love ya Zusteou
Love it!!!! More!!!!!!😉😉
Give me some love Z!
My update of the game doesnt come with gates and as many research as yours! why is that?
Download the experimental release.
i have seen alot of people play this game but nobody got a good base so quickly
Funny story, I had to stop watching this video half way through because my laptop nearley burst into flames.
Zisteau.. You suck... I bought Factorio... and I LOVE IT!
