- Factorio is a super duper awesome game where we use conveyor belts to shoot aliens. The world hates us so we're going to stink up the place with tons of pollution, kill everything we see, and automate all the things. Find out more at Factorio.com.

Great idea! I wasn't expecting something so interesting, but this will be fascinating, suggestion for you, never use laser turrets :-)
I think, that won't be possible, because he is limited on recources and ammunition burns iron like crazy
seregruin laser turrets don't use ammo, they only use electricity
Jason Crafts Seregruin was talking about the normal Gun Turrets which need Ammo.
***** I thought so but Xisuma was talking about laser turrets...
Jason Crafts seregruin was saying that it wont be possible to not use Laser Turrets since the world is small and making ammo for them would burn Iron like crazy :) I hope you understand now
Vertically, this is a challenging map. Horizontally, the possibilities are infinite. Combine that with Zisteau's skill and brainpower, and I think we're in for a most excellent Linear Factorio series! :D
No trains though, *cries*
I think this is a brilliant idea, can't wait to see what he does with it!
why is it different vertically?
boyangfu I honestly don't think it is.
boyangfu For one you would have less view because most computer screens are more wide than they are high.
With this map you could say it's impossible for the biters to break the forth wall, because there will only be two at any time
Nice! Your first playthrough was one of the few series that got me excited everytime it poped up in my subscription feed Now I'm even more excited for this one! The main bus system was a neat concept, but I want to see how crazy you can get with pure efficiency, and with that extreme vertical restriction you sure have to. Love your videos Z, specially Factorio!
You keep calling them 'Aliens' But what if i told you that you... are the alien
MIND... firmly intact, actually
What if a body of water spawns that spans the whole 20 block width?
Made it so water could only spawn in the spawn area so it couldn't stop his expansion and stop the series.
Obviously u just started the video.
This game needs some naval transportation...
Bier Bart
first read that as navel... oh my
Bier Bart A whole water themed expansion would be cool. Water resources, mobs, buildings, ect...
I have high expectations after watching the previous series, but I'm sure it will be awesome
I think a cool endpoint for this series would be if you got to the point where you could expand solely by killing trees and placing a regular pattern of blueprints that have the height of the entire map. So given high enough raw resources being able to expand arbitrarily far without doing anything yourself.
It's been nine years, but this is still my favorite Factorio playthrough. Crazy to remember how different the game was back then.
Most crazy thing for me was: this is nine years ago?! I was shocked when I saw this. It felt more like a few years.
I'm only 2 minutes into the video and already love it, season 2! Weeee :)
I after 40 sec
a roaming base would probably be a fun way of handling this. trains + robots make moving the base reasonably easy. the only nuisance would be a bug with the smart inserters (they don't work properly if placed with a blueprint)
Sure just pump the fucking *V O I D W A T E R*
I love this idea. Keep at it, Zisteau. I look forward to watching you struggle!
Zisteau you are the best walk-through guy. King of factorio and minecraft..
I'm super excited for season 2, and really looking forward to more of Z's Factorio series!
That looks like a really fun series. The first video ever I watched from you was the previous season EP1 til the end..a few videos in and you got my sub.
I love early game for some reason. The hope, the expectations..and then I derail into something and forget to do whatever I'm supposed to in order to finish the game.
Oh well..good luck! :)
Trains will be a challenge this map, I think a single track along the top or something will be your best bet (or just move your production with your ores)
yes so excited you are starting a new play through so quick!!!!!!! i look forward to watvhing this everyday!!!!
I'm liking the format for this playthrough - very interesting
Zisteau, thoroughly enjoyed your gameplay on Factorio in the previous series. Looking forward to seeing how you fare in the Linear version. One thing I have to chuckle about is that you refer to the native lifeforms as "aliens", when in fact, you are the alien invading their planet! LOL keep up the series.
Been waiting for this!
Your last series was great, looking forward to see your plans this time
GAH! I was literally going to start one of these next week!
Now i'll have to come up with a better idea...
Like...
A VERTICAL strip!
Anyway, good luck getting a good oil supply, you're gonna need it.
watching this in 2017, man I remember those old turret graphics. when they updated them it really made for some funny turret walls, at least in my base.
Could you do *Factorio :: Rules that matter* next?
So we've got a Captive Factorio! So cool idea, I like it a lot.
East bound and down, loaded up and truckin'
We gonna do what they say can't be done
We've got a long way to go and a short time to get there
I'm east bound, just watch ol' Bandit run
Zisteau I have been playing a ribbon map myself, the best advice I can offer is to make sure you have an extra patch of each resource before you get anywhere near running out. Also pushing to find resource patches may take a while, I spent 4 hours one day looking for copper. (I am playing a 100 tall map like fish). Good luck
Wow I had completely forgotten the pickaxe xD excited for the nee season!!
I just noticed moving fish-like shadows in the water!
COOL!
Yep, you click collect them and get fish. There's no real purpose yet, just something cool the devs are working on for later.
ZakTheFallen
You can eat them to get your health back up if you are hurt.
Kustan Hardelus Makes it possible to do some early alien base murdering if you collect a lot of them, since there's no cooldown on how often you can use them & you can eat them while still shooting!
Looking forward to the rest. Seems like it's going to be an interesting season.
I've been waiting for you, Z.
Interesting!! What happens if you come across a 20-wide water bit?
He answered: Water is only in spawn.
I've been waiting for this for a "long" time!
kind of funny how the renewable resource is the one that is scarce.
So if Fish's map was Ribbon does that make this map Floss?
when i watched the first season i instantly new that i would get this incredible game
Really looking forward to this series. One slight criticism if i may. I think using the edge of the map as a water source is kinda cheating, it becomes too easy that way to gather water, \personally i think you should use the body of water at spawn as you source. But, hey that's just my opinion, Keep up the good work.
I think he should've gone with atleast 50 blocks, he's torturing himself otherwise
I was looking forward to this. I like the idea of making everything efficient. I am a little bit disappointed about the slim map, though.
I think Zisteau got tired of all the turrets last time. He only needs 80 to completely defend himself in this mode xD
Indeed, which drastically reduces the amount of power required. Which will reduce the amount of pollution created and I guess this is why he set the options to allow them to spawn so close.
Love this idea! You may need to actually use highways of belts this season - I imagine your base will get very long :P
I love the idea of Halo Factorio, keep it up!
YES, RIBBON WORLDS ARE AWESOME
been looking forward to this starting! :D
This game has consumed my life
Still less linear than Final Fantasy 13!
It's funny because it's true...
In the early game I like to set a filter to put coal into one of my belt slots. Huge timesaver
The aliens in this game are terrifying.
I could definitely do with longer videos, if you are able! :D
Can you give the map exchange string for this playthrough?
Hey Zisteau have you considered doing a Factorio multiplayer series? Maybe with one of the Mindcrack guys or someone that you haven't worked with before, like Arumba?
This game desperately needs bridges.
>Somebody shares my need to actually see what you're doing in a game especially when you're recording it for others to view
As though I needed a reason to subscribe anyhow, but here it is.
Is there a world download for the first season??
Nice idea :) Looking forward to it!
ROUND TWO. HERE. WE. GO.
Bing bing!
I was just about to ask about the potential issue of getting stuck between two lakes when you just mentioned it - Glorious.
I guess it wouldn't hurt if the game would let one build a bridge or a Ponton.
Thank goodness it's back!
it is the fact that you have ore frequency set to highest that you have small patches (so that there can be lots of them) if you were to set the frequency to lowest you would have huge patches (just not a frequent :P)
Yes more Factorio!
I think a good Idea on this one would be t run 2 or 3 conveyers along all the way with you resources unless you want to have a one line train but it would take up about the same space and i'm guessing you cant turn around train in that tight of a space but mabey you can
Zisteau, in preparation for this series you should check out an older play through by a guy named malkasphia. He was the first guy to win a "deathworld" difficulty play through on TH-cam. The resulting factory was so compact and pollution light that once he put down the rocket defense he didn't get a single biter come after him. You could stand to learn a lot :)
I watched that, too, and if I recall correctly he said that no biters coming after him in the ten minutes while the rocket defense was going, was some kind of overflow bug in the game. Basically, it was trying to make so many biters come after his base all at once that they all lagged and none of them actually reached his walls before the time was up.
That would be a very interesting bug. I'm not too familiar with how the endgame works because I've never actually bothered to build the rocket defense. But didn't he also say that he didn't get attacked for hours at a time? Which like, I don't know if the biters would come at that point or not
Matthew Muirhead
Hm, not sure. I remember that LP and he was getting attacked almost constantly until the point where he cleared out all the nearby nests. But the activation of the Rocket Defense causes biters from much further away to attack than they usually would because of pollution. His factory was still running mostly on steam engines so it would have put out a lot of pollution anyway.
Yay, new season! :D
Dear Zisteau,
Take as long as you like with this series,
Sincerely,
Everyone.
Looking forward to this new series.
To the east you have a choke-point where there is only room to bus 5 lines through. Have to looked west to see if you have any similar choke-points?
Question is, does the edge of the map disallow aliens from running around your walls? :D It might be some tricky edge case there (no pun intended). Also, the shift-clicking can also be done on stacks, so that you move half the stack into a container. Very convenient for loading chests and turrets. It's so damn convenient that I think Factorio's item handling is the best of any game I've played so far, and all other games, including Minecraft, should emulate it. :D
Does the map loop around so that west eventually becomes east? Then you could rename this series 'RingWorld'.
I really like this linear idea, and am curious to see how you handle it! :D
Wish you had a thread with all the settings posted so I dont have to keep watching the video everytime i forget :P
I immediately recognized your map being similar to FishSandwich. i follow both of you lol. I thought it was cool that you mentioned his name.
Robots will be awesome on this map to transfer goods.
I know I'm late but he won't even able to create much power to power the robo ports
Yo Z!
Can you share the map code so we can play along too?
Trains are going to be near impossible with this map, getting around water and such.
water is set to be only at spawn
Zisteau can you tell us your world seed please!
Looks like we won't see any trains in this... season. I mean, can they even turn around in that many tiles? And I like trains :(
that idea is awesome o: i love it
Wow, Zisteau, this is going to be really tough since there is hardly any trees, hardly any oil(although its has a crazy high yield). I Dont think you are going to get behind those other bases that are already there :P Ofc i hope you will manage it!
Hey Zisteau, perhaps you could consider a Factorio Multiplayer series some time? I thought it would be really interesting and hilarious to watch.
that was fast. i figured you were gonna wait a bit lol. Not complaining.
this is going to be awesome!
Having played in 0.16, the old graphics and mechanics are almost painful to watch.
First comment =)
not even seen the video and im totally excited! yay factorio!
wow it looks so much fun. maybe i will try out something similiar. Thank you Z for such cool ideas. but maybe i will make it harder with islands. =)
Man they really went and made this a game feature
Yes another season
Will you be able to turn a train around with it being that small?
***** true true
+Zisteau will we see a Factorio is EZ at any point. The multiplayer for this game looks like fun.
AW YES! Can't wait.
ITS BACK YES!
Really should have added the treefarm mod. DyTech and/or Bobs Mods would be useful as well.
How about a no walls rule, it seems that it would be super easy to defend yourself while just using a tiny amount of walls
But a wall of turrets, even normal gun turrets, would be used in a bottleneck. Kabam- dead aliens.
You don't really need walls. Fully upgraded gun turrets will kill the biters before they even close enough to think about damaging your turrets.
***** Except I believe spitters outrange gun turrets...
Riccardo Orlando Not in the newest versions
Riccardo Orlando use express belts to move them away
I had this same idea, for a ribbin world, I even recorded a video today though the quality was really low and I died
can you play with mods
this is crazy cool
You should do a speedrun of this.
Looking Forward to the New Series Z!
my worry is that he is going to get a lake that fully covers an edge so he cant go anywhere
Does the map turn red to some degree once you have enough pollution? If that red is over a biter nest, isn't it then you get attacked?
I have a feeling that for you to expand to any degree, you'll have to cleanse an endless stream of biters to make very little progress. Once the attacks start coming...
Good luck, Zisteau.
Agreed, that might be tricky. But maybe if he rushes lasers, he can bottleneck them and wipe them out. Also, automatic landmine factory combined with construction robots = splash damage? So yeah, that could help.
The red layer in the map is indeed pollution; it appears when you press Alt.
Biters can attack you without pollution, and sometimes they don't even if you have pollution over their bases (ex: they're far away). However, pollution angers them and make attacks far, far, far more frequent.
Sure, he'll need to clean the "stream" of biters... but once you have enough tech, it's just about putting some power lines, then walls, then laser turrets, then kaboom!
LuZamya with a little grain of salt, as walls will get expensive in the long run.
I'm starting a 20 heigth map now, too. it appears, there can be long areas of dead waste land, with no recources in them. you might have to fight your way through carefully at some point, to get to the next stone recource patch :)
Good point there, seregruin . Unless, of course, there is enough stone to make walls to make it to the next stone patch with walls.
How is he moving so fast, I can only go at like a third of that speed in my game?
Cool vid, i just bought the game myself and i love it, but i suck at set ups lol
