      Not feeding again until you’re actually hungry?
      Hunger-triggered feeding rather than strict scheduled feeding?

    You should do a video about sodium and salt!! I feel so confused about how it affects the body, how much salt there really is in food (feels like its more than we maybe think) and how much salt we should eat!

    • @evgenia
      @evgenia 3 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      Love, sodium(Na) and calium(K) are two essential salts.Without them your muscles will not move and your brain will not function.We pee out a lot of salt.Salt deprivation is viewed as one of harshest human torture forms by WHO.So; you need salt, you are going to crave salts if you miss out on them.And you will die on salt free diet.Salt low diet is prescribed by your doctor, in very specific diagnostic conditions and it is limited to 3-4 weeks maximum, during which you are supervised.Do not try and adjusts your salts, you cannot micromanage your metabolism better then million years of evolition and your metabolism already does.

    • @xg2513
      @xg2513 3 ปีที่แล้ว +36

      Please learn from me, I made the mistake of under consuming salt and over consuming water. If you’re eating a Whole Food diet and minimizing processed packaged food, you don’t need to avoid sodium! If you ARENT prone to heart disease/high blood pressure and eat a lot of veggies and fruits and grains, you don’t need to worry about restricting salt.
      I gave myself overhydration multiple times (hypoatremia - low blood salt) by following the “8 cups of water a day, eat less than 2,000 mg sodium per day”.
      I would love a video about salt because when I eat the salt guidelines, I feel sick and end up with problems like really low blood pressure.

I have to schedule any lab work as early as possible so that I can sleep through most of the fasting window. I also carry a snack to scarf down as soon as it's over, and then I go out for breakfast. I also make sure that the doctor is aware of this issue so that he'll hopefully show up on time. If he doesn't make it within a reasonable time frame, I will leave and reschedule. It actually dies all those things if you try it - reducing your insulin spikes reduces general hunger and you become satisfied with simple tastes and foods again. Up until recently fasting was considered a cure for a lot of things, because it forces your body to use all some its mineral reserves and 'cleans' it. Eating/digesting is stressful for the body, fasting gives it a break.
      Considering Abbeys health is absolutely tanking I don't think she should look down her nose quite so much

      @@indy2316 she wasn’t reviewing fasting in general she’s reviewing this book which was a whole different thing. those claims she’s reading were not simply about the benefits of fasting. I think you’re conflating two different things. Abbys review was more nuanced than that. What she was talking issue with is not the concept of fasting but the way this book appropriates buzzwords like intuitive eating and mindfulness with a highly restrictive form of intermittent fasting that he made up himself. I know this is a bit late, but my psychologist suggested that I set an alarm during the day to eat lunch since that's the meal I usually forget (which makes me real hangry and bingey by about 5ish when the meds wear off). She said not to force feed myself but even just to make some eggs since they're easy and maybe a piece of fruit (it's still not much, but it's better than nothing). And then at night when the meds wear off and I'm ravenous and can't tell when I'm full, I try to make a point of eating something that's quick and easy with lots of veggies. My go to is chicken or beef stir fry or salmon with frozen veggies so I don't have to chop anything. Then if I want more food afterwards that's fine because at least I know I've had some nutritious food. That's been working OK for me but obviously you have to learn what works for you. It's not the same as intuitive eating, but it's as close as I can get it because I cannot tell the difference between hungry and bored and tired. Just adhd things I guess. I hope some of this was even a little bit useful and not just random crap from a stranger haha But of course we should see what Abbey says too

    I grew up with an Almond mom who always weighed me religiously until late into my adult years when I finally said nooo when I had a beautiful daughter of my own. I've survived anorexia twice and orthorexia several times and to date I still struggle with feeling normal about food. I still do things my mom taught me like the brush your teeth trick you mentioned to avoid or deter myself from eating. It's literally an every day Hell for me. Your show has helped me sooo much with working towards not being triggered by fear foods. I still eat clean I'm a Lacto-Ovo-Vegetarian life long but I'm getting better thanks to watching you regularly I no longer food journal or calorie count witch is huge for me and once a month I have what I would have always considered a fear food this month I had cheese pizza! For me that's great! I'm getting better everyday thank you for your content and education about diet culture. You make a big difference for a lot of people! Thanks Abbey!

    Okay, I do understand the mindfulness part to the extent of preventing emotional eating. A lot of people don’t know the difference between true hunger and emotional hunger or boredom hunger, etc. I mean I had an ED and I often binged because of emotional triggers, so maybe it’s not such a bad idea that when you think you’re hungry, you think about it for a bit and try to pin point whether you’re truly hungry for that thing or if you’re truly hungry at all.

    So, I've been doing something I've called intuitive fasting which is where I eat whatever I want when I want to eat and have a fasting period where I don't need anything but I like to change the length of the fast based on how I feel. So I might fast one day from 9:00 p.m. to noon on day and then from 7:00 p.m. to 11 in the morning, something like that where it's not the same time or the same length of time every day. Basically it's just me being super busy in the morning and not snacking at night after dinner. I eat when I slow down enough to realize I'm hungry. But yeah the idea of calling something intuitive and restricting so much is crazy.

    Thank you Abbey. I heard all those "rules" growing up: ignore your hunger; be disciplined; drink water if you are hungry; (Weight Watchers says this a lot and implies that we don't know the difference between hungry and thirsty); don't eat ANY of the foods on "the list", whatever that specific diet says the list is; my favourite two: brush your teeth, and chew sugarless gum! So hard to lose weight in my teens doing this. And no words about exercise, not even walking. And then came Jane Fonda, and her tights and leg warmers that we all wanted in the '70s. Even Jane admits she smoked and exercised obsessively to stay thin. It was hard to watch this, but also good. So thank you. My current ON dietician recommended by my GP says 1400 cal is ok with 60 grams of carbs per day. So hard to do, so I thanked her and do what I can. If you can look at the Mayo Clinic Diet, that would be great.
