      Veganism is a philosophy and a way of life, not just about diet. Plant based is about diet. In veganism there is no cheating or being a flexitarian it’s an important distinction.

    I think the “processed foods” thing with Jazmine specifically might be easier just because of where she lives. Like a lot of her recipes involve fresh ingredients from places like farmer’s markets and also really natural, fresh foods even in restaurants. I lived in a tropical client for a few years and found that way of eating much easier, cheaper and more accessible than back home in the USA.

    I never really realize how much these youtubers impact me but when I see that they eat 1800 (or less) calories I get a momentary feeling of “wow, I eat so much more than that, though” but then you give your recommendation that they may want to be more in the 2000+ range and that makes me feel a lot better and more confident in the amount of calories I feel I need to function optimally. Half way through the video and I have to stop. Funny enough, this is the most triggering video for me so far. My disordered eating has gone from anorexic behavior to binge eating throughout the years, but the biggest problem for me was definitely the obsession with healthy eating. I think my main problem has been, after all, orthorexia. I have recovered very well and learned not to be afraid of any food. I have also learned that I don't have to make a "healthy version" out of every freaking food! Avocado puddings, "brownies" out of dates and nuts, raw chocolate with honey, nice cream from frozen bananas and raw cacao powder, whole grain everything until I have a diarrhea because I have eaten SO much fiber. If that lifestyle is not harmful to her, great! But it definitely was for me. I am so much better eating a mix of everything. Yesterday I ate a huge chocolate chip cookie with a green smoothie. Today I had dairy ice cream after a dinner of salad. Balance is key. ❤

      I understand eating processed food out of convenience or necessity I genuinely
      Find it strange when people prefer it over fresh food. Like if I get to choose between getting a burger from the family owned joint that gets all their food locally for $7, vs McDonald’s meal for $5.75 I’m going with the good quality burger. Or with mac cheese for the ex.,my bf genuinely wants the boxed kind over creamy home made gruyere parm stuff
      and I find in mind boggling. It literally just does not taste or feel as good am only keeps
      Me full for an hr and a half and during that time I feel “sick full”

    My favourite thing is watching a baby eat, trying new things for the very first time, totally fresh without all the BS they’ll be bombarded with later on. The enthusiasm and pure delight and the way they seem to know what they need-over a week rather than obsessing over each meal.

    Hi Abbey! Would you ever consider making a video that revolves around someone who is a Type 1 Diabetic? I'm T1 (going on 30 years!) and I would love to know your opinions on eating a healthy, intuitive, balanced diet while living with a chronic illness that is based around managing blood sugar levels and being ultra aware of everything that goes into your body. I know there are a handful of T1 TH-camrs out there that do "What I Eat in a Day" videos. From my personal journey, I have found that living with a chronic illness such as T1D has made me much more susceptible to developing disordered eating patterns. I have struggled with this for most of my life, in various ways, but am happy to say that I am currently managing my blood sugars as best as I can while eating (what I think) is a pretty healthy diet. I know this might not relate to all your viewers, but I'm curious as to how having a chronic illness (T1D or others) centered heavily around food would influence your opinions. Would love to know your thoughts and see something like this on your channel. Thanks!

    So much love for your content. Every time I make a meal or snack I think about how Abbey would review it - and not in a bad or restrictive way. If I have my blueberry Eggo waffles in the morning (I'm a big kid at heart) I will think to myself - how can I bulk up the nutrition and I will add nut butter, hemp seeds and fruit in addition to the maple syrup of course. If I have an "off day" of eating because I feel lazy or just want to eat things that are emotionally satisfying, I don't let it define me or punish myself. Thank you for changing our relationship with food one video at a time!!

    Giving Jazmin's background with an eating disorder, her current way of eating only "healthy", whole foods has strong orthorexic tendencies. It doesn't look like "food freedom" but rather obsessive clean eating. Living a fully recovered life includes eating processed foods on a reg as well and letting go of food rules. I'm struggling with a restrictive ED myself and I'm nowhere near food freedom so I can speak from my own miserable experience, unfortunately.

    • @leahsmith2078
      @leahsmith2078 3 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      I get that. But I think she’s eating clean because she was raised that way and it makes her feel better. Maybe it’s a combo of both. I love junk but feel so much better mentally and physically when I eat clean.

    • @thepiggiesarehungry2444
      @thepiggiesarehungry2444 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      She does eat refined sugar in some of her videos. I think she makes “healthy” versions of foods because she eats these foods on a daily basis and wants to make them more nutritious. If that’s what balance looks like for her, that’s great. For other people, balance might look like eating nutritious meals but also consuming a dessert that isn’t made with “healthy” ingredients every day. I rlly don’t think she has orthorexic tendencies, I think she actually has a healthy relationship with food.

      Not sure if you still want a recipe, but I have a soup that I like making in batches for freezing/canning. If you freeze anything make sure you don't fill it all the way because water expands when it is frozen. It's a vegan recipe but I'm not vegan.
      So a huge saucepan. 5 yellow potatoes w/skin. 1 leek. 2 cups of red split lentils. One standard container of vegetable broth. Some salt. I cook the lentils first in water and then add everything else. I keep the potatoes cut really small and after its boiling let it simmer for like an hour and a half, but do whatever feels right.

    While still learning what "intuitive eating" actually means, i wonder whether my grandmother (89) has always been eating intuitively throughout her life. She may be one of the many people surrounds me (including mum) who has been a great example of intuitive eaters (in my opinion). They have never count calories (believe me, they 100% dont or even know what "calories" mean), they always stays in shape and looks healthy (and looks much younger than their actual age!). Having said this i m sure they dont just eat whatever looks good and feel good. They look after what they eat and good for their health "intuitively" without worry so much about counting macros and looks. I think the term of "intuitive eating" was born out of diet culture that we live in. In the olden days, people work hard, eat what they can find and be thankful they could eat and live. Just saying.

    1 can of sweetened condenser milk
    3 tablespoons of cocoa powder (preferably a less sweet one but DONT USE 100%)
    1 spoon of butter
    mix everything continuously over medium/low heat, until you can see the bottom of the pot for 2-3 seconds when dragging a spatula through

    Another great video. I was wondering if you could do a video on ageing and how that affects our appetites and that sort of thing. Also could you make a video or share your tips on smart portion sizes. Obviously this is mostly subjective but what do you recommend. I’ve seen half the plate of veggies and a fist of protein or is it knuckles of protein and then carbs. But my question and struggle is…. How big is the plate? I’m struggles with portion sizing right now and it’s really bringing me down and I hope you could offer some help since I’m assuming a lot of your audience struggle with this too whether it’s larger or smaller portions. I’m afraid I’ve overstretched my stomach and I’m used to large/ “abnormally” large portions and now I just feel dissatisfied with smaller portions even though they’re calorically dense. I have had a history of “vegetable loading” and I’m trying to make some positive changes. :)
