Hey everyone, I’m Abbey Sharp, welcome to Abbey’s Kitchen. In todays video we will be reviewing weight loss TH-camr, Beatrice Caruso.
This video was originally filmed several weeks ago. Since then, Beatrice has released content suggesting she has been struggling with binge eating. I do not promote weight loss efforts for folks suffering from active eating disorders. If you are struggling with your eating please see the following resources.

Please use this video (as with all of my review videos) as educational, not as unique recommendations to Beatrice at this time, as any recommendations in the context of weight loss would not likely be appropriate.
    A FEW DISCLAIMERS

    2) Please be kind in the comments.

I think "came for the weightless, stayed for Bea" is a fairly common phrase by now. A lot of people don't watch her for her weightless journey but because she is relatable. She looks like a friend talking about ups and downs, not some girl starting with size zero talking trying out some weightless trend

She has from the start been that way! She has also mentioned that it’s not mainly weight loss but mainly tied to psychology, which many doesn’t seem to be aware of. Too many focus on the food aspect and weight, but doesn’t connect they have to get a hold of WHY they do and what is lacking inside, and that’s 100% tied to psychology. Eating disorders no matter what kind of eating disorders are not about food but emotions and lack of tools deling with them, and set habits as a result. Sadly many are not taught that and develop eating disorders as an outlet to cope emotionally (when they are sad, happy, angry, stressed etc etc). The thing Bea says in her videos is probably what people get attached to and wish to subscribe to her channel, she has a good head on her shoulders, and it shows that she has spoken to a professional before she started her weight loss (as she has mentioned previously in her early videos). Heading in for more sessions with a professional is a mature decision, because after all these things tied to psychology aren’t just re-learned by a few months or one year of a different way of thinking and doing, it takes lots of
time for people to learn new ways after years of doing things a certain way that is rooted 99,9% of the time in childhood.
Whoever is reading this be kind to yourself and to others! 💕

Bea has always been 100% transparent and authentic since the start of her channel about her BED that started (according to Bea) in childhood. Bea has talked about her BED in dozens of her videos too. She recently went to therapy to deal with her depression and anxiety which gave her the time to also talk about her BED with a professional which suggested her new steps in trying to deal with it. I love love love Bea's authenticity but Abby painted her as "coming out" with her BED when she was nothing but transparent about it already. Smh

@@LuNa4Death this youtuber, unlike Bea who seems refreshingly authentic and no bullshit, seems very grating, smug and self important, and whatever she says that is supposed to sound "kind" and "thoughtful" and mitigate her condescension just feels false and contrived. Bea has been really upfront with her binging from the very beginning of her journey (there's no way you'd know, you don't have time to watch every video lol, so I get it) and it's really helped so many of us feel empowered on our own journeys. Her honesty and acknowledgement of it means so much when EDs are shamed so heavily. Watching her most recent videos where she is receiving therapy and confronting her ED is a good reminder that goals have to be attainable, realistic, and healthy. I've been with her from the beginning and started confronting my own ED around the same time. It's been nice to see someone try similar methods of "fixing" and being honest about the complexities around EDs. It's more than just what you eat. It's what you feel.
She is also really clear to her audience to never EVER make ourselves sick or anything. That it's okay to modify, to change, to stop. Because health come before everything. I don't necessarily think another food video on Bea is necessary, but I think a video on positive ED recovery stories and behavior may be a good video and you could include her (with her permission since ED recovery is so personal). There are a few channels on TH-cam that follow ED recovery and post-recovery in an incredibly healthy and supportive way that I think is great, especially for younger viewers.

I am so glad you reviewed Bea's channel. I hope you have watched her recent one, because Bea has changed much of her approach. I have watched her since the beginning and am very glad to see her learning so much. She is a lovely young woman, as you say, honest and funny. I have dm'd her asking her to see a dietician online or in her state, but so far she has not. However, she is getting therapy and that is just great, and also vital, for all of us. Who among us doesn't have more to learn! Oh, and if you watch more of her work, you can come to see that she has always been open about her binge-eating. It's that now she is approaching it in a different manner. I come from the age of restricted calories and food groups, and "bad" foods and "good" foods. It's interesting to learn newer approaches; I don't think, however, that I will ever entirely be able to practice intuitive eating until I deal with my own binge and emotional eating. Thank you for your work, Abbey, and I hope that you revisit Bea's channel in the near future.

In all the videos we happen to watch before filming this, we didn’t see mentions binging so unfortunately we just didn’t catch it, or it came after I shot this (I did film this a while ago). I’ve said many times that we cannot watch an entire youtuber's catalogue of content and for that reason I don’t want people to use these reviews as a comprehensive review of the person. Rather they’re meant to serve as teachable moments for the general population, using public videos as jumping off points for conversation, education and inspiration.

@@Johanna.EG. Bea chooses to put her videos out there for the public to see. In my opinion, it's unwise for someone like her to be posting because she seems so fragile and she's very sensitive to the opinions of others. I can definitely empathize with her, but that's exactly why I would never share my life on a public platform. I think you need to be asking Bea about her choices, as opposed to Abbey, someone who is allowed to make a respectful reaction video, which she absolutely did. When you expose yourself to the world, you have to expect that people will have their opinions, and that's just the way it goes. You can't make a youtube channel about your mental health struggles and binge eating, tell everyone how uncomfortable you are with criticism, and then think no one is going to criticize! Bea should protect herself first and foremost and decide if this life is right for her.

@@malloryg4251 classic victim blaming. gotta love it. when you’re profiting off of someone else’s content, you need to do more research on them. if you’re reviewing a cereal brand, you wouldn’t just try one box of cereal and review the brand based on that. you would try multiple flavors. Abbey’s team says they missed it when doing research but if they would’ve picked some of Bea’s earliest videos, some older ones that are still relatively new, and this video, they would’ve known about her struggles and how open she was with them throughout her journey. the point is that abbey should probably reach out to people with EDs who she reviews before filming and posting a video about them. protect the vulnerable, not the people preying on them.

I love your videos. You are so kind about nutrition! You helped me to be more kind to myself about what I “deserve” to eat (because I deserve anything). Specially because I have a teacher (I’m in high school) that bullies the students about what they eat and their weight and he always makes me feel so bad about eating carbs (he always says carbs are bad and we can’t eat it).

It's great your getting educated about carbs and food. If possible maybe throw facts back in his face? If not possible try changing the topic. Also be proud of your body and say so out loud and to yourself.

@@carochan86 he talks about it during class so it’s really hard. He’s a biology teacher. And he is always shaming the students eating habits 🥺 it’s really triggering.

@@bela5475 You should let the teacher know you do not feel comfortable with that subject and to please go back to the lesson. You may want to let a guidance counselor know. Also let a family member know . Other friends and class mates of yours should do the same. My high school had vice principles per grade and they were very nice and easy to talk to. If your ok with talking with one of your principals I'd consider that as well.
That is valuable school time wasted on things not related ( most likely) of the topic being discussed.

I feel like perhaps it's a good idea to watch more than just "what I eat in a day" videos for this type of review. Bea has been pretty transparent about her binge eating from the very beginning. This was by no means a revelation to her audience. She has been on a journey with this and she has shared it in her videos; the only difference is that now she has sought therapy and has put her mental health first. I agree that nobody really knows what goes on in peoples' lives based on a few videos, but in Bea's case her transparency and vulnerability have been so intentional from the start that the presumption that this had not been clearly communicated is inaccurate.
I also wonder how this type of review might affect Bea. In general, is it a good idea to post these reviews while the subjects are in active recovery from ED? Does Abbey's team reach out for their consent? I'm curious how this type of thing works. From a mental health perspective having an extra light shine on you while you're in the midst of a struggle may not be the best thing. Then again, we can't know until we ask the person we are reviewing.

Agreed. I'm a mental health therapist and this comment is actually the reason why I stopped watching Abbey's videos. I just stopped by for the first time in a while when I saw Bea and wanted to make sure she wasn't getting ripped to shreds.

@@heykelly The thing is, she DID say at the start not to watch it if it might be triggering. (although i can understand how knowing these videos exist at all might not be helpful for the person being talked about)

I pretty sure she didn’t ask for permission, as Bea has stated previously that ppl making videos about her makes her uncomfortable.😬 But also she has put her journey on the internet so some feedback is to be expected.

@@heykelly Agreed. Especially in light of Bea recently saying she had contemplated leaving TH-cam altogether because of the added pressures, and also sharing she wasn’t comfortable with videos being made about her.
