Crazy how some of the best damage modelling in video game history was put into a movie tie-in for a pretty unremarkable movie. That's passion from the devs right there.
OG Gears games, like say, GOW3 had crazy damage modeling also. Ribs and bone, Organs, guts, skulls and brains. It had it all.
Vanilla Ninja Gaiden 2 on 360 has one of best gore system ever to this day.
Not just passion but talent! Something severely lacking from AAA games of today!
@@CasepbX Exactly this. So many unoptimized and buggy games these days from devs with no passion for their product
I actually enjoyed the movie 😁
Man I wish I lived in a universe where this game became absurdly successful, with sequels
It sequel baited better than quite a few Marvel movies back then and now I loved this game to the moon even like the T Rated version for Nintendo Wii but my favorite was my 360 copy it was one of the few times I went out of my way to get the achievements on a game
What If there are giant telephatic spiders in that reality?
Are the spiders friendly ?
@@gabrielarkangelothere is in Australia
We are getting an insomniac sequel. Prob be better
The only time Hugh Jackman ever got to give Wolverine fans the violent, unhinged, animalistic version of Wolverine that they all wanted.
R Rated story that Wolverine needs for the animalistic grizzled war veteran story that it is
The movie Logan had some good parts of that.
Logan happened after this
@@williammoore1030 Yeah but those scenes were too short plus they featured an old and dying Logan instead of the grizzled pissed-off prime breeding age Logan that we usually get in the comics. Hopefully the upcoming Deadpool 3 movie will give us the unhinged Wolverine we got in the X-Men Origins game.
Ah man come on, Logan got all of that right, but yea this game is amazing, one of my favourite games to this day, and it's the first game I ever played on the 360, I completed it all in one day, and that was on Xmas day too, this game is so good.
Raven used everything they learned about slashes leaving marks on the environment and enemy dismemberment from making the Jedi Knight games on Wolverine and it's great.
jedi knight and soldier of fortune are still some of my fave games of my childhood. loved those devs back then.
@@jonaskrabb774 Fallen Order only had dismemberment for droids and alien monsters and animals.
Survivor actually has human arms and legs flying all over the place, just no torsos or heads.
@@jonaskrabb774Bruh you’re missing out
Its amazing how this game not only had a much better plot than the movie but did a proper job representing Wolverine's violent nature before Logan did.
This game's secret strength is length.
The game is short. But there's enough content for a good 6/7 hours playthrough that ends - AT THE RIGHT TIME.
Some games nowadays do not end when they should. By the Deadpool fight, the player has gotten pretty much every upgrade they care about & only just getting tired of the combat.
Go to any review of a game less than 20 hours long these days and see the mouth-breathing smooth brains complain about the length. As if we don't have too much to play already, every game being a 20 hour game is stupid on SO MANY levels
Game is short but still feels repetitive as hell in some parts tbf
Fun fact, which might explain why a lot of this game is so different from the movie. If I recall correctly. The team behind this were already making their own Wolverine game. Like it was in development for a while, and by the time the movie was coming out, they just slapped the rights of the movie on the game, in the hopes it would sell better. Course I'm positive it made the devs have to switch and change a couple things to better tie into the movie. But if I'm correct, then it kinda explains why this tie in game is pretty high quality for what it is. Comments correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that's right.
Correct.
I think Gambit's inclusion in the movie might have been because Gambit was already created in the game and the directors decided to put him in the film. Allthough that's just a rumor.
They were also given a pretty early version of the script, which explains some of the scenes being the same but just slightly different. The team even commented they originally set all the Africa sections of the game on Savage Land, which is basically a massive jungle full of dinosaurs, but once they had to rewrite stuff to fit the movie, they ditched the dinosaurs and just set it in normal Africa.
@@KekoBass Who would win?
A Tyrannosaurus Rex, one of the largest known land predators with the strongest bite force of all terrestrial animals and one of the most legendary apex predators?
Or
One smol, hairy, angry Canadian?
@@CyanRooper The Canadian had BIG MEATY CLAWS while the dinosaur can't even scratch his own head
It’s an underrated gem. Legitimately better than the movie itself.
Most indeed.
Yes, although that’s not a high bar to clear😂
The Deadpool game is like the goofy younger brother of this game. A lot more cartoony, but still a ton of fun and violence.
The ammount of oneliners spammed in Deadpool and the very basic shooting made Deadpool a bit of a drag for me.
@@khululyp I thought it was just way too fun to care about that. I loved the pure chaos that would in ensue when things really got going. It’s all subjective of course but I didn’t mind his jokes much and I even found some of them funny here and there.
4:32 Hugh Jackman being good at projecting his voice outward makes extra sense when you remember he started in theater.
Best intro of 2024
Watching wolverine’s healing factor work in real time after nearly dying never got old
Well, yes It Is. It was supposed to be a proper Wolverine game but then, that movie came out which is why the story feels all over the place. Did anyone found the cake?
This era of gaming was so good, I was busy with other games and originally overlooked this gem. Very glad to see it get some attention now, as it still holds up well!
I still remember so well when this game was released the cutscenes were unbelievable, specially the one where wolverine is hiding and he attacked the soldiers
i loved how the gore looked in this game it was crazy for its time
It’s always such a great feeling when a movie game not only captures the epic nature of the film, but even goes beyond that
This game still holds up. Found a copy online last year and it’s still as fun as I remember it being. The upcoming Wolverine game better have a damage and regeneration system similar to this one.
Always Nerdy made a good video on the background of this game one of the reasons it’s so good is because Raven was initially already developing a Wolverine game that would’ve been closer to the comics it didn’t become a movie tie in until later like instead of Africa the jungle portion of the game was going to be the Savageland
These licensed games could be rough but I enjoyed them: Green Lantern (the movie) the video game, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Captain America: The First Avenger. I loved all the costumes they let you pick in this game. Getting all that battle damage in the blue and yellow costume was awesome.
The Cap game wasn't nearly as bad as everyone made it out to be imo.
i always liked the combat in captain america game more than those arkham games.
@@krono5el felt pretty similar to me outside of the options but sometimes streamlined is better!
@@traceyrinaldi4759 I think at the time people were so used to B games and licensed mess that they were overly critical of the ones that actually stood out as competent. I like all three of these games so much I bought them on PS3 and 360 so I could get all the trophies/achievements.
@@traceyrinaldi4759 It was the first game I platinum'd on PS3. A fun and very competent superhero brawler, deffo the best of the Sega Marvel games (though hot take, Iron Man is not that bad once you get a grip on the flight controls, also nabbed 100% completion on it). I feel like it was largely forgotten because it was 2011. The same year we got Arkham City.
One of my all-time favorite aspects from this game is how a lot of the bodies and blood stains don't disappear instantaneously after a fight. Adds a touch of grit that I wish were there in other similar games like the original God of War entries, especially III, and Dante's Inferno. And it's funny how the two modern God of War games severely lack in that department... to me, it's such a waste of what should have been a go-to improvement across the years.
That wouldn't really fit in the games you're talking about because it would clash heavily with the tone of the games in question. Kratos is spending a journey that spans 2 games trying to be a better person. The "grit" is only present when he deliberatly falls into old habits.
If you had that everywhere it would undermine the themes it's going for. Having a father-son bonding moment in one moment only to rip out a Cyclops' eye the next minute would be some heavy whip-lash.
@@leithaziz2716 , not once did I say that Kratos has to be as brutal as he once was. I'm talking about gameplay aftermath. A lot of games with violent themes would benefit a whole lot with that in mind. And it doesn't have to be exaggerated and/or glorified. Heck! I'd argue it would fit the tone even better as a way to show what Kratos and Atreus have to endure across their journey through the various realms. And let's not pretend Kratos isn't cutting his enemies into bits in the later games. My point is even applicable with DOOM (2016) and Eternal. With the right mods for those games, the aftermath really sells the point of combat across a lot more. And it wouldn't hurt having a setting in the menu if people really want the bodies and blood to still disappear quickly for optimization reasons depending on what rig they're using. There's a lot of ways to pull this off without taking away the intent of the newer games.
Finally someone is saying what we're all thinking
Played through this recently
I don't think I've ever smiled as wide as I did before playing this
The reason why this game was so good for a move tie-in game was because it was in development for a year already before getting the call to base it off of the Origins movie and another 6 month delay to the film on top of that delayed this game for 6 months also. That six months gave them the time to add in those cool qte parts like with the chopper. The jungle part came from that first year of development and it was just luck that the movie had a part set in Africa they could retrofit it into.
I was in high-school when this game came out, played it and it absolutely blew my mind. Two years ago I accidently remembered it, played it twice back to back, and it still blew my mind. Game is not a masterpiece but it has a very special place in my heart. Action and gore effects are extremely satisfying.
Edit: Dude, I f*cking love your outro animation. So well done.
This is the best video game adaptation of a movie ever made in my opinion. I played this game since the release days and it was and is a hell lot of fun. I upgraded Wolverine so much that nobody in entire game can kill him. I upgraded all of his abilities, gave him the best perks and at the end you basically now running on a god mode. I uploaded my save file for PC version of the game on few websites, in case if anyone wanna check it out. I also made some mods for this game, changing the textures and making new costumes for Wolverine's classic outfits. Other words: I LOVE THIS GAME! As for the mods, I uploaded them to moddb and gamebanana, so give them a try. Anyway, I wish for another great Wolverine game like this one.
Which is what I can't say about PS2, GameCube and PSP versions. Cause unlike PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 version, those other 3 versions suck.
It's always heartwarming to see passion for games :)
@@ComissarYarrick It's because people love video games. Especially when it's a good video games. Sad reality is tho that these days there is less good video games and more piece of crap. But yeah, nothing change my love towards old video games of the past. And X-Men Origins: Wolverine Uncaged Edition is one of them. I love this game, man. It is one of my favorite video games out there.
Man your channel has made me go back and check out so many games I either never got around to or haven’t played it years. Keep the hits coming my dude
Thrillingly one of the best movie games ever made, hands down, thats not exactly a high bar but this one pole vaulted right over it with claw out haha
Wolverine has had that corkscrew attack since X-Men vs Street fighter.
Honestly I think it’s more impressive that they had a bunch of crummy story beats from the movie and somehow managed to make them all more interesting
I Hope that the New Wolverine Game by Insomiac is exactly like the X-Men Origins Game because this is how you make a Wolverine Game.
Some amazing highlights I remember: Xforce costume on Hugh Jackman, BRUTAL Wolverine gameplay, flying Sentinel fight, badass CG intro!
"Same guys who made such absolute classics like Hexen..." No. Not the same guys. Same company, different guys. It is not the same.
2009: The year of COD that also gave us brutal power fantasy games like Prototype, X-men: Origins Wolverine and Infamous. My friend form secundary school was obsessed with this game, years later on when I played by myself, I could actually why, it's just a brutal and downright fun joyride of blood splatered adamantium claws.
Ninja gaiden 2 was also the most brutal of all, but yeah porotype is def a good time.
This is one of the best X-Men games of all time - Raven Software rules.
Wolverine became my favorite superhero b/c of this game. The creative ways of dismembering someone was fantastic. insomniac's Wolverine better take notes from this gem.
I’m not even a gamer anymore and I still find myself watching your videos on and off.
I’ve probably seen every Big TH-camr fall off over the years while your channel just consistently grew, and it’s just funny seeing all these TH-camrs with millions of more subscribers than you get no views because of how irrelevant they become.
While you’ve maintained and developed a healthy fan base.
And your aussie too that’s the cherry on top 🍒
The game that insomniac should definitely take notes from when making there wolverine title .
I love this damn game. Played it a bunch on the 360 back in the day. It was so great having an actual M rated Wolverine game for once.
he missed a point we not just collect the figurines to unlock suits but we actually have to defeat the wolverine himself meaning you have to defeat yourself to unlock the suits which the figurines only unlocks the fight
I will never forget, my dad said i can either go see the movie in theaters.
OR
he would buy me the game and i could play it on his PS3. I am happy i chose the game because i played it religiously. I still have the disk 😂
Omg-That intro had me rolling!! Good review to one of my favorites from back in the day.
I always love how you have a given game's audio playing during the "Blog Post" meme bit. It makes it 10x funnier to me.
GMAN!!! its been awhile. time to binge 3 months of your vids. thanks homie
This and the Deadpool 2013 game deserve much more recognition, they were fun af.Maybe one day they will return on Steam.
That "falcon punch the enemy on the spike after a throw" at 13:34 was fricking beautiful...
I love this game to bits, I have played it so many times. The only downside for me was the framerate, especially on PS3, but dayumn...what a great fun
I kill counted this I while back, certainly held up with all the carnage and excellent dismemberment! Cutscenes were superb too! 👌 glad you gave this gem of a game some limelight. 💪
This and The Suffering are 2 franchises I want remasters of.
I remember playing this as a kid on the PS3. I loved how it didn't shy away from the gore and blood.
I never played the full game, but the demo lived on my 360 hard drive. The gore/regeneration on Logan's character model were pretty awesome!
You absolutely should try Deadpool. The game had a similar mechanic for health where you can see the damage on him, and it slowly healing back.
It also had great humor and pretty fun gameplay, even if some checkpointing was stupid.
You make my day in that intro Gman *french kiss*
Man I’ve only recently heard and seen (thanks to great content creators like yourself) about this game. I can’t believe I missed it back in the day as hack n slash games are my jam. Going to buy it like now.
Just finished this game yesterday. Great game!
I'm playing it right now and It still holds up quite well !
It was wild seeing Wolverine in that circus musical thing
I doubt that Sony's upcoming new Wolverine game will be as bloody as this
Na no way the leaked gameplay confirmed that already it looks terrible compared to origins.
Great review! I have been meaning to play this game since it came out and never got around to it. Definitely gonna try to check it out now
When the game is about 34 times cooler than the movie it's tied into
Dude, you are so good at your job! Every video is so well researched and still really entertaining, good on ya!!
Mate so glad you've done a video on this. I absolutely love this game. Beaten it a bunch of times and enjoyed it a hell of a lot more than the actual movie. Haven't played it in a few years due to needing to replace my xbox 360. I really wished it was backwards compatible on xbox one/Series X/S.
I never was able to beat Deadpool
I can only hope the Insomniac Wolverine game is just as if not more violent than the X-Men Origins Uncaged version is.
7:07 this is just fucking perfect editing right here
Ready or not just dropped a huge update here recently if you want to do an update video on it in the future. It basically overhauled everything and gives you a much better and involved version of single player than the original did with a new teammate management mechanic where you monitor everyone's well being, fire the ones that give you trouble, and hiring new members
I got this game used for like $5.00 years ago because my friend wouldn't stop telling me how fun it was. Glad I listened to my friend because this game blows the film out of the water.
Never got around to buying this, but I do have a fond memory of when I first got my Xbox 360 and Xbox live. They had free demos you could download and this was one of the first I downloaded since I didn’t have much games and I played it over and over again. Hell of a good time
the demo is still available on 360 :D
Too bad it’s banned for us Germans I would’ve loved that as a kid
I loved this game when I played it years ago. Forgot it existed so that’s for doing a video on it and reminding me about it. Wolverine was always one of my favorite characters, not to mention this game was so much better than the movie.
Insomiac should take ALOT of notes from this game : blood stains , limps cutting , finishers , screams , environment kills etc ....
And it's story was so better than the movie
Ngl I appreciate the videos you put out . Gives me something to watch on my downtimes between work and sleep .... keep doing your thing
I sailed across the seas for 1 minute and found thy uncaged version afloat, for PC. Will play it and watch your video later. Yaaaarrrrrr.
played this on my cousin's PS3 back then. I'd really love to re-play this again. I hope they release it on steam some day
This game and spiderman ultimate in ps2 are my fav marvel games man. I am bothered how underrated they are yet how fun and memorable both are.
We need games like this, I never got to play this one. I did however play the Deadpool game from this generation and was not disappointed. I might have to give this a try. Thanks for the sauce G
Really been enjoying these reviews last few months. Have you ever reviewed GodHand on PS2? I'm going to check the backlog of vids but if you haven't id love to see a review on that.
Played the wii one so fun that flicking the mote and chucks unsheethed the claws was the best
I'm amazed he didn't mention the AMAZING Weapon X Arena DLC
Good video. Thanks for showing some of the PS2 game too.
It's like the devs didn't watch X-Men Origins: Wolverine and the game was better for it. This game deserved a better movie to be based on.
One thing I remember about this game is how it was featured on one of the last issues of the original EGM magazine right before it went under.
GGMan should review OG Ninja Gaiden 2. I loved the gore effects in that game, especially the cool moves with the Kusari gami
Absolutely mind-blowing that you just uploaded this New Year's Eve I got a new PS3 and I've been going back and forth between this and 50 cent blood on the sand 💯💯💯
For being an older game it was really fluid and fun to play with just the right amount of challenge.
The graphics might have not aged like wine but it plays better than half of the games that have come out. Like come on this is amazing
Playing this on PC at 60fps is fantastic
2:34
The fact that i recognize the intro of The Million Dollar Man makes me feel old...
The red vs blue cameo was appreciated 🤙
Ayyyyy! You changed it! I wonder if you watched the blob fight on ps2 though.
Uncaged edition was also released on pc and it ran pretty well
Holy moly man, those frame dips
Did you record the game on PS 3?
I remember playing this game a lot on PC, but I do not recall such frametime issues
I know you've had it for a while now and I know I've said this before. Your outro is AWESOME!!!
When a game adaptation is better than its original film.
I loved this game when it came out, my pc couldn’t run it well and it was choppy, but I did play it regardless
With that new wolverine game from insomniac in the works and hugh Jackman reprising his role in Deadpool 3 this is video was perfect timing
Finished this game for the first time recently, played the pc version and is definitely the best way to play it. I have the 360 and ps3 versions, but the pc version plays at a buttery 60fps and pretty much any modern gaming pc can run it without trouble. There's also a quite a few mods to make it look even better, but even without it, it looks great. There's only a few costumes, but they're really well detailed and just makes the overall experience that much more fun.
Brutal and beautiful.
Conan on the 360 and PS3 was equally as visceral as.
I remember it took me more than 1 hour the QTE for the Giant Sentinel while falling, guess I didn't smash the button enough😂.One of the best game i played as a kid
So happy you reviewed this one 🤗
Played this so much when I was younger, I couldn't get past the sentinel quick time event where you pull off his chest piece, I swear it was bugged lmfao.
My cousin had this game back in the day …
The amount of hours we put into it was insane & worth every minute ..
I remember getting my PC copy from JB for only a couple of dollars (still have it too). I had a blast although there were definitely areas of frustration. I remember the final boss in particular being a pain because of how easy it was to get knocked off the top for an instant death and restart. That's the problem with some of these older hidden gem games, they're generally awesome but have one or two extreme pain points that just make you never want to touch it again. Same happened with Deadpool which I recently started to replay but had to drop after severely unbalanced difficulty and a horrible checkpoint placement right before an unskippable cutscene.
THIS...GAME...WAS...PEAK!!!
This game was ahead of its time!!!
We need you to playthrough X2 Wolverines Revenge next. Even has Mark Hamill as the VA for Logan in the game.
