Infamous got me hooked when you finally become a recognized hero. When people start recognizing Cole when you grind overhead, cheer or cower if you're a dirty villain, etc. You really feel the effects of your choices and actions, and honestly it makes me feel so bad to be the bad guy. The world is so harsh, so being powerful enough to be able to improve things for everyone just a little feels great to me. Then again, I've always been that guy who prefers to play the Paladin in D&D games, a real goodie two-shoes.
I always want to play an evil character at the start of games. But my charactera always turns good by the end. Not always so fun to play a one sided totally evil character. For example in Fallout New Vegas i wanted to do a bad guy character siding with the legion. But as I played i realised that from a certain point of view Ceasars Legion are the good guys, so I played the character more as guy who truly thinks he is doing the right thing, the ends justify the means type of deal.
I still think this was the best implementation of a moral system. You felt the moral progression through your powers as well as thru how the civilians/citizens react to u. I also liked being able to permanently clear zones, like you're a superhero that's actually cleaning up a city instead of just continually beating down respawning enemies
Gman you forgot to mention that in the first two infamous game people would throw rocks at you if your evil and stay idle on the streets and if your good people would throw rocks at the enemies for you and if you explore old areas of the game your character would have special dialog
One thing I really liked about Second Son is how Delsin Rowe realises just how cool it is to have superpowers and is clearly having a lot of fun with it
If they ever do a sequel, just going by the endings of all the games. Good seems to be canon for Cole and bad canon for Delsin. His powers are something he enjoys and Cole felt them to be a burden. Delsin also has a great villain power since he is kind of OP if we are honest. Almost like delsin is All for One.
@@merkaronisalad9501 I'm still fascinated by the concept that Infamous 2's evil ending was supposed to be canon for Infamous 3. Then they just kind of soft-rebooted the series with SS which was kind of disappointing.
It’s so rewarding to chose the hero’s path. The city gets cleaner, the weather is more sunny and the people are more cheerful and they really show their appreciation for you.
@@voodoo2006 yeah and at the end you get the awesome red and black lightning. I always had to do my first playthrough going the hero route, but then go the evil route second
The mission towards the end of infamous 2 that takes place during a hurricane, and lets you recharge your power by calling down lightning on yourself, is still one of the coolest fucking things I’ve ever seen. I want so badly for them to go back to the series with a REAL third entry
@@mechamania “Put it on the front page, ‘Cash money for picture of Cole Macgrath. He doesn’t want to be famous? I’ll make him INFAMOUS!” -random reporter
Can we talk about how stylish the cutscenes for the first game are? They truly managed to capture the comic book vibe and it would be so fucking cool if more superhero games did something like this
I hated the cleaner style they used for the comic book cutscenes of inFAMOUS 2. The style they used for the first game was also used for the inFAMOUS Post-Blast comic that detailed the events after the Blast. You can find and read the comic over at the inFAMOUS wiki.
"a photo from his wedding day, when he married Trish with Zeke as his best man." that twist was frankly shocking. Infamous was how youre supposed to write an edgy superhero story
Fun fact: The follow up to infamous 2 had already started being written after 2 went gold and had it based on the evil ending. They remarked later that they went through achievements data and saw most people picked the good ending and noted that they were actually disappointed and had to rewrite the story. Kinda explains why second son also makes literally no sense as a follow up to the good version of infamous 2
I mean i'm surprised they were surprised that people chose the good route. I think most players dont want to be the super evil dick if they have the choice of saving everyone and making life better. Hell i'm sure most data for the game evil playthrough was trophy related because thats the only reason I did an evil playthrough in those games.
That's why you should just commit to your artistic vision instead of checking data metrics and shit. If you have a great idea and a great story people are going to get on board no matter what.
@@saloz9483 Yeah unless I'm going for achievements I basically never do an evil playthrough in any game really. I think I played New Vegas for like 1000 hours before I ever bothered to go Legion and it was just that one time. Usually I beat a game as the good guy and then finish it with a "Yeah, that was good enough" feeling. Like in Vampyr I got the best ending first time so...why would I want to play it again and be evil just for the sake of being bad? Just to see a few conversations play out differently and have more power? But I already beat the game so...I don't need those other powers. If games want you to be evil they should really make you WANT to be evil.
@@Durrutitv They probably should have. All they needed to do to market it is to show a trailer that strongly hints at Infamous 2's Evil Ending being canon, and players will go back to play Infamous 2 to see it lol
It's just not satisfying to be evil for the sake of being evil. Even evil people see themselves as morally just. If you want people to take the "evil" action, you must compel to think that it is the right choice.
It is pretty similar to the scene from the first spiderman film where the green goblin makes him choose between saving the children or Mary Jane (except you don't get to save both)
What I really disliked about that mission was the illusion of choice. I really didn’t like how no matter what you chose, Trish died anyways. It should’ve been presented in another way
There is a very touching moment in InFamous 2 when Cole question himself why Bertrand is doing what it was doing, if it wasn't just misunderstood, it's not much, but is the first if not the only time that I saw a videogame protagonist trying to see the events from the antagonist perception.
@@FMK03 Worst? Nah, creating monsters is perfect for his ends. The whole thing about turning into a monster is a tad generic and the "I hate them because I secretly am one" is on the nose and a little cliché, sure, but it's a cool power overall.

He could've also transformed into a 7 foot tall humanoid with the ability to transform his arms into offensive weaponry and the ability to control a large creature like the Behemoth instead of turning into one himself.
You really missed out by not playing the bad guy. When you use the orb to get more powerful at the end of the game you feel almost godlike by how powerful you become.
@@-Samus-Aran-Agree to Disagree. The first infamous pissed me off half of time, whereas with Infamous 2; I was having a blast and wasn’t scratching my head at a vanilla safe by the numbers plot unlike the first game. Though to be fair, I’d easily have a generic plot over the insufferable garbage masquerading as second son’s story.
@@lilwyvern4 You...can't be serious? A great deal of people have absolutely no power in reality so escapism is without a doubt choosing the evil options every time. Or semi evil options at least....they are generally things that enable you to feel like you're worth anything no matter how meaningless (absolutely meaningless in the context of video games) it is.
I’m the same way, I hate being a dick to innocent NPC’s lol. I really only played the evil side so I could get the platinum trophy (and well, the black and red lightning in the first game is pretty sweet too)
I'm so glad somebody else recognizes the intuitive controls. Every single power is always available and easy to use. In every other game including the sequels you have to sacrifice some powers for new ones or you have to navigate menus or use some really clunky controller magic to be able to use them but not here. In the first InFamous game you just use ALL the powers at any time you want. People don't talk about the button layout enough. Quick and easy, just like your mom.
I love that you covered this. I played the first Infamous around the the time NBC's Heroes was starting to turn into a disaster of a show and I remember thinking "Infamous does the superhero concept a 100 times better." Keep up the good work man!
Right! In infamous second son, you were actually insentivised to play through at least two times so you could see all the powers. Your morals actually affected what powers you got.
Second Son hands down has the best evil ending cutscene. I never laughed so fucking hard in my life when it quick cut away from him nuking his Grandma 😂
It's a shame you didn't try to play the evil side. Evil powers are more crowd control and good was direct damage. If I'm remembering correctly you get essentially sith lightning that can chain and explode at one point. Good stuff
Evil side is awesome because it gives you abilities that basically say: "Just blow up everything, including the innocents, because you obviously don't care about them either way". And that's awesome. Shit, and I think that when you're evil the game becomes more grim, the colors become darker, for instance, IIRC.
Listening to your review of Infamous immediately let me know that you were a diehard fan of the first game. I see other people that reviewed this game dislike certain aspects that you can't get enough of, and I'm like: "This guy's like me". The only difference is Infamous is my favorite game of all time. I also found it impossible to become the villain while playing. I tried, and by a certain point the bad taste in my mouth became a knot in my stomach. I cannot wait for Suckerpunch to finally respond to the fans with a remaster or a *fingers crossed* FAITHFUL remake.
InFamous 2 improved the graphics and gameplay, but the first InFamous game had such an epic origin story. The PS3 was home to many exclusives that I had no idea about what they actually were when they released - InFamous among them - but they all are part of my most nostalgic gaming memories.
Infamous has always been a part of my childhood and it was the first Playstation game i played, I also used to play it with my siblings and sometimes we'd even stay awake all night playing this game, I wish to experience those memories again
I loved infamous 1 but man Infamous 2 hit me different. It was the first time in years I played a game nearly nonstop . I wanted to platinum that game so bad I hated playing the bad ending, broke my damn heart.
@@gus552electricboogaloo4 they wanted to use the evil ending of infamous 2 as cannon but when they saw that more people had the good ending trophy they chose that as canon, but still how are conduits still alive then. Still hoping for infamous 3 continuing the evil ending as that would have made the most sense.
I think the real genius to Cole McGrath was that almost everybody knows somebody like him, and he had such a familiar outlook on life that he felt more like a real person than most heroes. Zeke and Cole will always be the best friendship ever seen in video games.
i remember making a lot of these back then too, i just played one for the trophy but ended on playing custom missions for hours lol. Some of these were really fun.
I managed to make a mini karmic choice mission where you can choose to save a burning hospital or chase down the bomber. It maxed out the allowed mission memory size but it works! I've also seen tower defense missions and other quirky stuff. Definitely something you wouldn't expect with the base third person shooter gameplay. Sadly Sony chose the evil path by restricting player made content as evident by not implementing Skyrim mods.
@@vincentthendean7713 I remember playing one where you see the Ice conduits or militia and two orbs corespondent to their elements (aurora) which you can side either of them with different areas of the map being covered in the opposing faction you allied with which leads to different combat situations

I like the idea i heard someone say once. They said that Cole in the first game had his vocals fries from the blast and they were fully healed by the time infamous 2 came around. I mean, it doesnt make a ton of sense but i like the idea of it. Infamous 2 va is really good tho.

I remember being a kid and being extremely hyped by prototype, then buying infamous to "scratch the itch" while waiting for it... and i got so sucked into the latter that i completely forgot about prototype for months. I eventually played and liked it, but infamous had become my favourite game of all time (still in my top 5 after all this time)
Festival of Blood was one of the best DLCs ever. I was hoping you'd talk about it ! Now I've seen you might make an entire video about it ? HELL YEAH !
I'd like him to at least mention the UGC missions/tools. They were in Infamous 2 but Festival of Blood had all the tools too even as a cheaper standalone title. So maybe he'll mention it there. Even if his only experience is to say it was there and he didn't touch it!
Great vid. Infamous 2 was definitely the best one. Each ability did serve a purpose. Pincer bolt was better at landing headshots than the regular one, magnum bolt was just slower but stronger and didn't rely on headshots. I can go on about how each ability was different and offered new ways to play.
Really? I honestly always found myself using magnum bolt for headshots because on certain difficulties (forget if it applies to Hard) you could instakill militia easy. Regardless, I agree, Infamous 2's my favorite though I haven't played Second Son yet.
Fun fact about the Prototype games: The entire engine and most of the gameplay elements are taken from a Incredible Hulk game that the devs made prior to. The hulk game didn't have the ability to change transformations or turn into other people of course, but the main combat mechanics, airdashing, movement, ability to pick up and throw objects, elbow drop tanks, the upgrade system, the critical mass bar that let you perform super attacks that worked as screen nukes, etc, all came from that hulk game. The games title is Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction.
really I always thought they played a little too similarly, man I miss that hulk game still the best super hero game I've played wish it got a remaster.
YESS!!! And that Hulk game is just amazing!!! I think the skills there are even better than on Prototype! Hulk could bowl, use poles/tress as baseball bats, rip cars in half and turn them into boxing gloves, ride buses as skateboards and throw them as boomerangs and the best thing ever that was flying around holding that giant gorila baloon LOL
I really enjoyed how after you completed infamous 2 on both karma levels you can play using all the powers, it made it so fun to do the leftover side missions and generally traversing the map was much easier
I remember playing the 1st Infamoua as a kid and being blown away. Had one of my favorite powers: electricity! And that story man, at the time I was genuinely surprised by the twists. Both Infamous and Prototype were awesome to me and saw them as two sides of the same coin both in gameplay and story.
i really like the reapers’ designs in infamous 1 because you assume that you can’t see their faces because of the shadow from their hoods, but then they start vomiting black goo and you realize that’s not the reason.
Infamous 1 was freaking cool. But then Infamous 2 came out and it was just absolutely fun. Very cinematic, just blown away by the visuals. Story wasnt bad either. Years later Infamous 2nd Son resparked my love for the game, but it just wasnt the same without Cole.
@@yogiderp905 Second son is okay, I beat it and did enjoy it but I've played it maybe twice and I probably won't again, the characters are far weaker than those we've seen before. Delsin himself isn't the most interesting protagonist and the villain, is lackluster and a pain in the ass final boss. They prioritized gameplay over everything else, which can only carry a game so far. Gotta make me care about WHY I'm destroying the bases and military equipment etc. I forced myself through it a 2nd time tbh, thought I'd enjoy it more but 🤷 Cole and his story was just far better.
I agree with your opinions on Infamous 1. But I HEAVILY disagree on Infamous 2 and Infamous second and even prototype. Infamous 2 was incredible! The music the visuals and the story were really good. Don't get me wrong it had it's issues, like you said the rockets and grenades were very annoying. But besides that it was awesome. Infamous 2 is by far my favorite Infamous game. Btw You not going down the evil path is just sad. Infamous second son is extremely fun and the visuals are amazing. The evil endings for Infamous 2 and Infamous second son gave me chills. they were Badass. The music as well was sick. The powers were a step up from the previous Infamous games. But it had issues as well. The only thing i'm pissed off about is the lack of DLC. Ghost of Tsushima got an entire Expansion. Infamous did not :(. Last thing is PROTOTYPE. Prototype was absolutely incredible l LOVED prototype 1 so much i still play it to this day. Honestly I REALLY HOPE we get a New Infamous game with delsin. Or someone else. and a New Prototype game with alex mercer of cause. But a man can dream.
Oh my god, If you haven’t gone the full evil route in infamous 1, do it. As soon as you activate the second ray sphere you’ll know what I mean. The black lightning, and the blood red sky is bone-chilling. Cole literally looks like a demon too it’s great. You get a nice power buff aswell which is neat. Also can’t forget that ending monologue, he’s completely self-aware that he’s hell on earth.
The only issue I've ever had with inFamous' morality system is just how black and white the choices are. It's always either good or evil with these choices, and they try to add a bit of morally grey choices in there, but more often then not your choices boil down to "Help the old lady across the street" or "Kick a baby in the head" you're either a paragon goody two shoes or a mustache twirling villain, with little in between. Though, that's kind of a nitpick, because otherwise I freaking love this game
A bit late, but I felt like that was a problem with every game but the first. In the second and second son you have evil choices just for the sake of being evil, but in the first you have choice that actually have logic behind it. Like during the valve mission where you can force the civilian to turn it. it adds the gray area because if Cole isn't in tip-top shape, he might not be able to save everyone, but would it be worth it to willingly hurt an innocent man
I've completed the main story of inFAMOUS Second Son like 6 or 7 times I think. And I had one main save where I liberated the whole city. It was amazing. The wide variety of powers, the ass kicking enemies, the soundtrack, the side quests, Delsin as a character, the super fun arena designs etc... everything was just so fun. It was one of the only times I felt like a true badass other than the Doom series. Yeah man, I gotta disagree with your take on the game. I enjoyed tf out of it.
Honestly, I agree with your take besides the powers & Delsin. I feel like they tried to stretch the powers so much with the 3/4 sets that each of them don’t really feel very fleshed out as a result. Not one of those powers feels as good as the lightning does by the end of Infamous 1/2, not even smoke; I feel like if you’re expanding the power sets that much for a sequel to those games, they should have felt just as fleshed out as that singular lightning power set did. Delsin also was just a flatline for me, I only really cared about his connection with his brother. His personality by itself was so annoying & didn’t really make sense throughout the story, constantly flip-flopping his core ideals, especially when you go down the evil path. He never has the dramatic umph that Cole did, even when he was barely trying. But the world itself, the side missions, the enemy faction, the combat arenas & all the extra stuff really did pop, so I do hope the developers try out a sequel one day; there’s so much more to explore with this world that it’d be a shame if Second Son was the final chapter.
@@TheSoCalledZoner1 No it wasn't. There was a pre-order bonus for Second Son that has a group of missions with Zeke in it where he confirms Cole is dead. That being said, Second Son is the weakest of the three games.
As soon as I saw the dust enemies I was like “Oh ya… The Trashmen.” Gotta say this video made me nostalgic for this this game. It’s kind of a shame that it hasn’t gotten a remaster, or better yet a remake. They could go bigger with the choices and even add better missions so that everything doesn’t feel repetitive.
Yep, it's a shame that they are remaking TLoU instead when it already has a remaster that runs at a smooth 60 FPS. They should have Bluepoint remaking inFamous 1 (and 2 if possible) like they did with Demon's Souls now that i would buy.
Fuck yeah I loved the infamous series. I just wish this and resistance would get ported forward at some point. No way in hell am I gonna try to play these through ps5 streaming.
What made this so satisfying is all the electricity sparks and chain lightning when shooting people instead of the usual blood/gore with guns. It felt far more empowering, stylish and destructive without being overly violent for a change.
I really want a new infamous game with Delsin but now with conduit crime lords. Like Del decided to fight crime his way (evil vigilante or law abiding hero) and on the way finds out about these conduit crime lords
Honestly, I have NO problem with "black and white" decisions in games like this. Honestly, I find games where you have 5 choices and they all could change the future unknowingly really exhausting. Playing games like Fallout or more recently, Outer Worlds, I find myself sitting there pondering every single decision, hoping I didn't unintentionally mess up one of my favorite characters and get them killed or hate me. With this "black and white" style, I have an excuse to play the game again, get completely different powers, and get told a different story, and choosing between them is easy and quick. People complaining about this I feel are the same ones who complain about "hyper linear" stories, like I'd rather have a really well written linear story than a barren open world where I can do what I want.
IMO, it made Infamous stand out as a game. It's black and white because it's based off of superhero comic books and those tend to be very black and white, so I think that it's limited morality works in it's favor and makes the game easier to understand.
@@BigeuleLP I think that's fine, evil should be evil, not morally grey. You are playing an evil character that is murdering innocents, and it's pretty fun playing the destructive evil path.
inFamous is absolutely one of my favorite games of all time. It helped get me through some of the hardest times of my life back when it came out and I've played through it many times since. Truly excellent game. Both of the sequels are also great, but the first one definitely remains the best.
The traversal of Second Son is so fun and getting the Neon power felt like becoming The Flash. Also I think it’s just a matter of taste and generational difference. I played Second Son when I was like 13 and it really was awesome and relatable to me. I liked everything about the game the story, combat, graphics and just all of it.
I disagree, i played both of them roughly around the same time, as well as Infamous 2. And I have to say the traversal gets really old a few hours in - there's barely any mechanics to it, and there's very little in the way of conscious decision making. I think it's a bit sad but i understand its more accessible, i just wish there was more than "Press R2 to sprint on walls"
@@victormeas7898 I mean the previous games did not have better movement. Much more freedom and choices in Second Son. You can climb and use whatever power you have as they each have different traversal options. That is much more than press R2 or whatever.
@@DrayLoco absolutely not, smoke for me was the only one that requires moment to moment coordination - finding duct vents, pacing your dashes, using jump vents. Video, neon and concrete are very boring in comparison. 1 & 2 required you to pace between fire/ice, power cables, electrical poles to boost up, glide etc. Parkour is almost non existent in second son, theres no incentive for it
@@victormeas7898 You're not very mobile in the previous games and you literally just have more choices in second son, but to each their own. Infamous and Prototype are one of my favourite games. When I was playing newest Spider-Man games I was constantly thinking: "Wow it's amazing, if only Prototype/Infamous could get this level of tech and budget"
I think one of the coolest aspects of the game is depending on whether you become good or evil you can only get certain abilities from that track which each have their advantages
Fully agreed, I wish this game was talked about more. I always thought electricity was the perfect power to explore that in-depth for a video game and they nailed it with how it complements the world design. And Zeke is still one of my favorite sidekicks ever in a game. Blast shard collecting was one of my favorite things, only thing that has come close to that in recent memory was Gravity Rush's collectables, really makes exploring the world addictive. And this was one of the first games I remember to implement and nail dynamic soundtrack to match going in and out of situations
I love how nimble and agile the character was in second son when he is climbing without using his powers. Like some sort of modern day assassin's creed
For once i disagree with Gman : 2nd Son got me hooked from start to finish, replay as a bad guy, finish the White rabbit extra study case (one of the first case of multi media platform connectivity ) and even finish the DLC. A very good early on PS4 exclusivity in my book
@@LordAKiraAndou I, much like Gman find it extremeley difficult to be the bad guy lol. I do find it boring how a lot of games "choices' don't really matter however
Infamous was the series that made me want to get a PS3. I was a Xbox kid growing up. I didn't get my first PlayStation until I got my first PSP. I spent a lot of time downloading trailers and watching them repeatedly. The gameplay reveal trailer of Infamous 2 got me exited the most. I didn't get to play the game until I played a demo at a PS3 kiosk in a Best Buy. I played that for a solid 15 minutes just traversing the city and shooting any enemy. That made me want to get a PS3. Sadly, I didn't get to play the full game until 2014 when I finally got my PS3. Infamous 1 and 2 were among the first few games I bought. I love them then, and I still love them now. I still have a PS3 and replay them every now and then. I hope we get a new game soon or a remake/remaster of the first 2 games.
I got a ps4 with infamous second son in 2014, only reason I got a ps4 at the time. I also played infamous at a kiosk in Best Buy and immediately bought a ps3 just to play the game at home.

I still remember this one UGC mission where the guy who made it blocked you into an alleyway and spawned like twenty mutants. I miss finding stupid stuff like that, mid to late era PS3 user generated stuff was absolutely sublime as a whole. Especially with Little Big Planet.
both infamous and infamous 2 were childhood defining games for me. So much so I even 100%'d 2nd son just because of my love for the previous games. Not only was this game the best superhero/villian game ever, but it somehow did over-the-shoulder shooting better than any other game ever has. edit: Bruh you never felt the big power up from the 2nd game because you didnt play evil, which i felt was a part of the game. You would sacrifice raw power for more control of fights as good, but as evil youd just kill shit. Big show of this is when you detonate the 2nd ray sphere (evil choice) and it blocks out every part of the karma bar other than infamous, and you get black lightining.
I never realized how much Cole reminds me of Bruce Willis mixed with Jason Stathom. Kinda makes me think the devs got the idea after seeing that movie with Stathom called AMPED where he had to keep absorbing electricity to keep his heart going
There’s actually a weird glitch in Infamous 2 by which you can make a person somewhat invulnerable to anything, or can’t die. I can’t exactly remember each step for the process since it’s been years from when I last played the game, but it involves using your repulsion ability to push someone into the air (it can be over water), then use your lightning ultimate to shock them
I used to to do something similar in Prototype 2. For some reason if you slammed someone against a wall and then immediately picked them up they'd still be alive until you let them go.
I remember when I used to watch my dad play infamous as a kid and instantly falling in love with the games concept. Now I’m 19 and have played through all three games myself and I can’t stop hoping the first 2 games get remastered in some way
My first game was second son and after that played the first game. I could see why people didn’t like second son but honestly i don’t think they were trying to out due Cole and his story. Second son felt like a world post-Cole i mean after the shit with the beast it was obvious that conduits would end up becoming feared and the people would want then to be controlled by some higher power. Sure Cole left an impact but people like Augustine are the types that want to play the “hero” telling her fellow conduits that its for your own good and manipulating the public by lying to them even if it means taking away their freedom and confusing a home for the super elite with a torture hole of a prison i could see the whole punk vibe fitting with the games rebel theme.
I always thought it had cooler powers and was easier on the eyes, the first one looks like such a hostile enviroment witch probably helps a lot with the tone
I would love a prequel where you play as Kessler (aka future Cole), experiencing his rise to power, and still having some of the same electric powers but now with the telekinetic ones he has at the end fight of the first game, and maybe some of the time-manipulation powers that he apparently has.
Bro second son was an absolute masterpiece. The powers were so satisfying and the story was actually pretty interesting and pulled on your heartstrings at times. Not only that but Delson was a pretty cool character and his style matched the powers really well. That game is so underrated it hurts.
Right? It’s so amazing but I might be a little biased because that was the first infamous game I played and I just love the atmosphere of it, the ambient feel of going through moody Seattle. It definitely has, the best graphics out of all three, which id obvious because it’s a new game, but still. Overall a really great game and super nostalgic for me because it just takes me back to the good old days where I would just spend hours with a couple of my friends playing this and filling up on a ton of Oreos lol. Good times
I'm glad to see that Infamous content is still being made. It's one of my most beloved franchises of all time, second only to Ratchet and Clank. Overall I'm just happy to see theres still an active community here!
I love seeing this game get a new wave of love in the last few months. This game was so fun and got me through a rough patch. Often revisiting these games that I personally value leads to disappointment, but thankfully inFamous still slaps. And it's not just the nostalgia.
God this game was so freaking good. I forgot just how great it was. Underrated too, nobody ever brings it up. It's a shame we won't see remasters since it's PS3 Cell-based game.
I agree with this title completely. InFamous is the reason I got a PS4. I just wish we got more of it. I even loved the Festival of Blood DLC they gave us for InFamous 2. InFamous and Prototype were two of the best games we got with the one letting you be either hero or villain while the other one you were more or less just the villain regardless of the story. We need more games like them.
I can honestly say I love inFamous 1 and enjoyed inFamous 2. I actually really like inFamous: Second Son. I think the DLC for that was Second Light? It was okay. If Sucker Punch ever makes another inFamous game I would purchase it day one. I really hope they do.
The guy who voices Cole in Infamous 2 is the same guy who voices Ellis in Left 4 Dead 2 I’ve never been able to un-hear Ellis’ voice ever since I found out about it
Man, i loved Prototype. I didnt have a ps3 to play infamous to compare to it, but i had so much fun in protottpes sandbox, unlocking all these new powers that are all visually distinct from each other, and the game was actually pretty hard, which kept me motivated to get better at my combos and dodges.
Not only is it the best superhero game ever.. its also an original character and story that blows everything else out of the water. Cole and Kesslers origin story is incredible.
Infamous 1 and 2 I've played countless times. The citizens eventually recognize you as a hero or Villain and that was always interesting. Having more conduits was cool especially since the use of powers have always been on the creative side. Napalm and Cryokinesis in 2 was really cool. I think they messed this up in Second son because all the powers are just powers and now you got people turning into particles. Imagine if Cole did that. The power scaling over the series is wack as well. Cole needed a device built from shards of the blastcore to transfer the powers but Delsen just has to hold hands for a little bit. Cole is also still the strongest person in the series on par with the beast. Infamous till this day remains one of my favorite games. The lore was well thought out in the first 2. the powers were fun. i enjoyed 2's rocket spam because hitting rockets back just always felt cathartic. I'd like a remaster and fix of 1 and 2 as boring and often stuff like that gets said often. I'm glad they dropped it after 2nd son though. the unverses lore is great but Delsen seemed boring and geared to a different crowd compared to Cole, who had an interesting personality that fit both good and bad. Infamous always rivaled the spiderman games. I may also just have a thing for darker superheroes than the standard hero tale.
Infamous 1 is the beginning launch for conduits, and Cole was patient zero alongside the beast. He didn't have much place to become more advanced with his powers since there was like, several pandemics at the time and multiple problematic gangs, so all he had were spur of the moment improvements. Second son takes place 7 years after infamous 2. At a time of peace and prosperity where the higher authorities have more time to study conduits and for current day conduits to develop their powers. it only makes sense that the powers would evolve to became more powerful later on. Also, Delsin was more designed for balanced combat instead of pure shooter gameplay. With abilities that allowed you to get up close to enemies (Especially video). And it shows in the opening cutscene, Delsin's first ability was a gap closer dash unlike Cole which was the shockwave.
I stated that above how I don't like it since Cole whose one of the strongest known beings had to use a device and Delsin just has that ability. Second son was pretty bad lore wise since it ret-conned or added new mysteries such as Delsin and the ones he got his abilities from formed their abilities through stress and not RFI or both. we don't know so its a mystery now. In 1&2 it was just RFE. (and DARPA experiment but we know nothing of that so it could be a form of either or both). Or that when the RFI activate in 2 that every conduit died. This kinda ruins the big choice of 2 which was a world of a few conduits or a world of many humans. Even weighing Zeke who was your best friend through the series. We can't say we know that he can make them stronger. First light follows Abigail about 2 years prior to Second son and she clearly has better power of neon than Delsin. So either its a time of developing skill or following the old rule of gaining another prime conduits ability only gives you a fraction like in 2.
@@AceFalken maybe the ending of 2 wasn't that all the conduits died. Maybe it was just the ones in proximity of Cole. Since the ray sphere needed a courier, it's possible that there may have been more than one and the people who made it have created multiple. Or at least duplicated the one cole had. There is still a lot left in the air about delsin. Maybe infamous second son 2 is gonna make light on some of them if they make one. Maybe a post game homage or something like that.
I'm firmly on the Prototype side of Prototype vs Infamous. A large part of it was because the weapons in Infamous were mostly just uninspired gun replacements. Pistol lightning, sniper lightning, grenade lightning, etc. Prototype powers were just way more fun to fight with and run around with! I also didn't like the very binary moral choices in Infamous either. Maybe this was unintentional, but in Prototype, you became so powerful that it was impossible not to kill civilians accidentally, which really tracked with how Mercer was becoming a monster. A rare example of ludo-narrative harmony.
Fair enough. I found Prototype too easy. Easy to the point that the game was only fun in short bursts of play (most things in the game die in one hit). Cole was alot more balanced for me and gave the game more challenge. That, and Prototype could honestly feel like a Hulk Ultimate Destruction reskin...
I liked the smoke powers in Second Son a lot actually, I thought they were the second coolest super power to get outside of Danny Phantom style ghost powers. That being said, I think the whole "activist punk looking to make a difference" thing is very played out, and when I see it IRL these days I see a lot more harm than good done and very little rational thought behind the people who flock to those sorts of causes. It was admirable back in the day because it took some thought and willpower, now it's just "well social media says its the right thing, might as well jump on the bandwagon!" The series on the whole left a good taste to me, and I hope that when game companies and writing rooms on the whole stop simping for brownie points with twitter with the pet cause of the given year the series can make a triumphant return. Hell, when VR makes its next evolution, the dream game for me would be some kind of MMO fusion between DC Universe Online and Infamous, even with a fully fleshed out karma system that can see you fall to the dark side, be redeemed as a hero, be an anti-hero, and every option in between whenever you can commit the time to changing over your karma.
Yeah, I get what you're saying. I can usually be "forgiving" or allowing or whatever for that type of character and story if there IS actually a broken or oppressive system in place, like what we got with the DUP in Second Son. Though, I guess I don't have much ground to stand on, since cyberpunk is my favorite genre, and that's literally what the entire genre is about.
I do agree with your take on the first InFamous game but I’m seriously loved the second game. I feel like it was a true sequel. To me felt like they kept all the right things but upgraded everything else. Getting new powers with lightning and a second power depending on your karma was awesome. Can’t forget the new focus they gave melee attacks and finishers either. Truly a great game IMO
I think my favorite implementation of the morality system was in second son Not in the specific story part but the gameplay and visual aspects. If you have neon, good gives you a sword melee I believe, and evil gives you a claw. Video gives you angel and demon wings You play differently too, having to aim your ranged attacks in different spots for different moralities, the head for lethal kills, and the leg for incapacitations. Giving you good and evil respectively. Your skills and what skills you can unlock will change depending on your morality as well It makes you really want to try and see what things will change gameplay wise when you play. I remember seeing the neon evil claw in the skill menu when I was being good on my first play through and being like “damn, should I have actually went good?” I love when a game does that naturally rather than telling you that you should second guess yourself
Something that I always find interesting is how these devs transition over from one IP to another. For example the comic book styled cutscenes are pretty reminiscent of the ones from Sly Cooper. Also the way the backstory of Alden is told reminds me of how they would tell the backstory of each member of the Fiendish Five in Sly.
I didn’t mind the new redesign and voice change for cole in the sequel. I liked the fan theory that his voice, and when they first revealed the game, his hair had come back after the bomb detonated, like he had healed back up completely. Second son rocks, but I can see why people don’t like it. All in all, cool video gman.
I think the reason why Second Son is looked down upon is because of it being compared to the previous 2 mainline games. By itself, it’s a fun game but it doesn’t hold up to 1 and 2 due to its short length and safer story
If Sucker punch announces a remastered version of infamous 1 & 2 using the same engine used in ghost of Tsushima with new game plus, it’s gonna look awesome. I just hope they don’t pull a rockstar games move with gta & red dead 1.
This game will always make me love these types of choices you're choices really effect everything around you and it shows one of my favorite affect is if you chose to be a bad guy in the first game Coles skin becomes more paler and it seems like black liquid is oozing out of him and if you chose to use the device (can't remember the name) you're lightning becomes this cool black red lightning and not only that in the game world everyone is suffering if u chose the evil road but if you chose the good road he'll get more cleaned up and his lightning is this white blue color I just love this game man so fun to choose
Having recently watched GVMER's video on Infamous, and you doing this now, i'm very very tempted to dust off the ol' ps3/ps4 and replay the whole series(again)
Not gonna lie, the first time I've heard about Infamous was when I was downloading a mod for Street FIghter x Tekken that unlocks the (slightly visually-bugged) PS3 exclusive characters and looked up who and where the characters from (aside from MegaMan and Pac-Man). Cole stood out because he looked like a regular buffed guy (he was buffed for some reason in that game) among the colorful Japanese-designed characters. Also, he was the only PS3 exclusive character to not have a rival/pairing as Toro had Kuro (by pairing) and MegaMan had Pac-Man, while Cole had none.
I just played this and the second one a couple months ago again. Still so much fun. Even the sidemissions can be very entertaining after the main story, which is very rare to me
This video reminded me how much I liked Infamous 1. Played through it both good and evil and preferred the good route. Spent a couple hours digging through old stuff to dig out the game to give it another run. Glad I was against selling off games so much back the.
I remember in infamous 2 if you had good karma civilians would assist you in combat by throwing rocks and punching enemies
Vahlok142 sounds like a guy I’d vote for
I still think this was the best implementation of a moral system. You felt the moral progression through your powers as well as thru how the civilians/citizens react to u. I also liked being able to permanently clear zones, like you're a superhero that's actually cleaning up a city instead of just continually beating down respawning enemies
only a trash gamer would even think of comparing infamous or crackdown to prototype. its not even close. prototype beats them both by a mile.
Gman you forgot to mention that in the first two infamous game people would throw rocks at you if your evil and stay idle on the streets and if your good people would throw rocks at the enemies for you and if you explore old areas of the game your character would have special dialog
I never knew about the special dialoge from Cole, since he is very mute during gameplay.
You're and you're*
The dude is too much of a pussy to play the evil path. Can't hurt the feefees of the digital characters that don't exist.
The tiniest details like that is what got InFamous a warm place in my heart.
Gman forgot to mention that Prototype had way more potential than Infamous and deserves a third installment.
One thing I really liked about Second Son is how Delsin Rowe realises just how cool it is to have superpowers and is clearly having a lot of fun with it
Yeah, Troy does his job pretty well, even if they could have toned down the snark and one liners
@@merkaronisalad9501 MHA Reference, very nice. I can also agree to that comparison.
@@merkaronisalad9501 I'm still fascinated by the concept that Infamous 2's evil ending was supposed to be canon for Infamous 3. Then they just kind of soft-rebooted the series with SS which was kind of disappointing.

The speech that Kessler gives to Cole while he's going to rescue Trish is a fantastic piece of writing and it's too bad it gets overlooked by people
It is pretty similar to the scene from the first spiderman film where the green goblin makes him choose between saving the children or Mary Jane (except you don't get to save both)
What I really disliked about that mission was the illusion of choice.

No way, I even played this Hulk game!!!
its so funny going from the hulk game to prototype, gameplay wise it's basically a direct sequel lmao
And then the Prototype engine was used for the cancelled Spider-Man 4 game, which meant you had funny prototype stuff mixed in with Spider-Man.
I always felt they didn't dwell on that enough, that all these innocent people were kidnapped and turned into crazies.

Infamous second son SUUUCKS compared to the original two games especially 2 Sure it's pretty as hell but that doesn't make a memorable story.
@@DraculaTepes420 it's still a solid game though 🤷♂️
Second son had potential with the beast ending from 2 but the dev chickened out of their original plan and even admitted to that after the fact.
@@personman1148 👉 Now that would've been a better sequel.
100% agree how great Infamous 2 was, my favorite as well. But also I could never bring myself to be evil in those games 😩
@@Hydr0p dude same its like the hardest thing to do
The ending for Infamous 2 was sad af, still scarred from killing Zeke like 10 years ago.
Infamous wasn't better than Batman or Spiderman, so there's that.
@@Xannyphantom905 no one asked.
Same, traversing the map with different powers and the way only certain upgrade paths were possible made that game hella fun.
evil ending was the true canon ending in the infamous 2
Second Son sucks....
As Zeke calls them, Trash Baggers.
Unrelated note I see your a man of Kamen rider culture
With Bungie being bought by Sony I can't help but wonder if we'll get a reboot of Resistance
As someone who replayed both infamous games on psnow, it really isn't bad at all
What made this so satisfying is all the electricity sparks and chain lightning when shooting people instead of the usual blood/gore with guns.
His problem is probably just that the bad choices are just to evil and not more like anti villainous
@@BigeuleLP I think that's fine, evil should be evil, not morally grey. You are playing an evil character that is murdering innocents, and it's pretty fun playing the destructive evil path.
Yep, and most of the time when they ditch this to make something more subtle they fuck it up like Mass Effect Andromeda.
@Dan Duncan yeah but the open world metro we do have is absolutely fucking amazing.
inFamous is absolutely one of my favorite games of all time.

Infamous and sly truly were the games of my childhood. Sucker punch gave me so many memories
they are very cool games, I was kinda obsessed with the series for a while, loved watching videos about it.

Fun fact about infamous 2 i found with charging the generators you dont actually need to even shoot a single bolt just sit there charging yourself off the charging station healing from the damage but not affecting the progress bar

edit: Bruh you never felt the big power up from the 2nd game because you didnt play evil, which i felt was a part of the game. You would sacrifice raw power for more control of fights as good, but as evil youd just kill shit. Big show of this is when you detonate the 2nd ray sphere (evil choice) and it blocks out every part of the karma bar other than infamous, and you get black lightining.
Some of us dont want to be evil kid.
The twist of the first Infamous game was amazing and I didn't see it coming at all. It was such a good premise and setup for the sequel.
I like Second Son a lot, it was one of my first ps4 experiences, and I was blown away by it
I personally think the 2nd game was the best, improving on every aspect from the 1st one
I always thought it had cooler powers and was easier on the eyes, the first one looks like such a hostile enviroment witch probably helps a lot with the tone
Not to mention the Mission Maker from the Second Game. I made a ton of slaughter missions.
Fun times.
@@JamesHolmez I got the guide for Infamous 2 just for a more in depth reference for the mission maker. I wish you could've edited powers.
The timing of this is crazy because I’ve been replaying the franchise for the past week, currently on 2
I can honestly say I love inFamous 1 and enjoyed inFamous 2. I actually really like inFamous: Second Son. I think the DLC for that was Second Light? It was okay. If Sucker Punch ever makes another inFamous game I would purchase it day one. I really hope they do.
I know it wasn’t a major feature but I loved the mission creator that was in infamous
The guy who voices Cole in Infamous 2 is the same guy who voices Ellis in Left 4 Dead 2
I’ve never been able to un-hear Ellis’ voice ever since I found out about it
Oh so two of my childhood games ? Great now you broke my brain
Pretty sure delsins actual power is just leech. He’s like rogue from X-men. Except he doesn’t have a time limit and can make the powers stronger.
@@Delby5 he's like rogue from X-Men, but basically better.
Definitely agree, infamous doesn’t hold up nearly as well as prototype does
I just freaking hate the boss at the end of the first game. I could only beat him once and never again haha 😄
Prototype was fun but Infamous does a lot better overall, apples to oranges tho really.
@@dirpyturtle69 that's an opinion and I disagree
I liked the smoke powers in Second Son a lot actually, I thought they were the second coolest super power to get outside of Danny Phantom style ghost powers. That being said, I think the whole "activist punk looking to make a difference" thing is very played out, and when I see it IRL these days I see a lot more harm than good done and very little rational thought behind the people who flock to those sorts of causes. It was admirable back in the day because it took some thought and willpower, now it's just "well social media says its the right thing, might as well jump on the bandwagon!"
The series on the whole left a good taste to me, and I hope that when game companies and writing rooms on the whole stop simping for brownie points with twitter with the pet cause of the given year the series can make a triumphant return.
I think my favorite implementation of the morality system was in second son
Not in the specific story part but the gameplay and visual aspects.
If you have neon, good gives you a sword melee I believe, and evil gives you a claw. Video gives you angel and demon wings
You play differently too, having to aim your ranged attacks in different spots for different moralities, the head for lethal kills, and the leg for incapacitations. Giving you good and evil respectively. Your skills and what skills you can unlock will change depending on your morality as well
It makes you really want to try and see what things will change gameplay wise when you play. I remember seeing the neon evil claw in the skill menu when I was being good on my first play through and being like “damn, should I have actually went good?”
I love when a game does that naturally rather than telling you that you should second guess yourself
I remember when they gave this game out when PSN got hacked, was a great move on their end
I kind of liked second son, I can see a lot of improvement visually and it’s overall a very fun sandbox open world !
All the games are on psnow
@@fatmanrolls2470 a paid service, lame
Infamous 2 was my favorite. I replayed that game multiple times. Even the DLC spinoff with the vampire content was awesome
I got infamous as a free game during the big PSnetwork outage and loved it.
Second son and first light are my favourites though, love those games
Even the sidemissions can be very entertaining after the main story, which is very rare to me
I personally loved Second Son a lot but I know it's not everyones cup of tea. Makes me wanna play it all over again in which I will
This makes me want to sit down and play through the entire series haha Another Bad Ass video! Legend!
There should be more original superhero games like infamous. Like not marvel or dc but actual original super hero games
All the Infamous video games is a masterpiece and great video man :]
This video reminded me how much I liked Infamous 1. Played through it both good and evil and preferred the good route. Spent a couple hours digging through old stuff to dig out the game to give it another run. Glad I was against selling off games so much back the.
