    Its always useful watching you work Matt! The way you've used the background to tie it in with the wolves works so well, really brings the carvings out!

    Just getting into power carving and loving your videos. Have you made a video on the types of wood that have the best finishes? Looked that subject up and came up with nothing much. Tried a basswood loon with my Dremel. The finish was soooo flaky even after hand sanding that I’m not finishing it.

    • @MattCarves
      @MattCarves  ปีที่แล้ว

      Not yet! Its a tough subject, as everyone has different access to woods around the world. I can't get basswood, cottonwood bark or good cedar. So I can't really comment on the basswood you carved, some people wet the wood during sanding so the fibres of the wood stand up and then can be sanded off. Personally my favorite wood is black walnut it is getting on the hard side to carve but has an amazing finish. I would say as a very general rule the harder the wood is the nicer it finishes (flipside is the harder it is to carve) Hope that helps. Thank you for watching

    Hi Matt...
    The carving handset on the flexshaft looks small and easily handled...I have very small hands and damaged wrists and something like that set up may be do-able...is that also a dremel piece ?..the handset ?...
    Thanks for the lesson...I've got a piece of a branch I've been carting around since the ice storm of 2003..lol...I haven't scratched a bit of it...I did a couple of cheap wooden boxes but it was difficult with the set I borrowed..so large and unwieldy...
    Anyway...well done and thanks again...🌿🌿🌿

      Hi Pamela. So what I am using is a dremel 4000 with a dremel flexshaft. Dremel sells kits and mine came with the flexshaft included. Hope that helps

    Great to watch, can I ask how do you stop your flex shaft hand piece from getting hot when using? Mine gets hot aft just about 5 mins of use.

    • @MattCarves
      @MattCarves  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jackie. You may have to much grease in the flex shaft that has run into the hand piece. I never grease the flexshaft my one has been going for 4 years now. I should make a video about that, and how to fix. You could try wiping the cable in the flex shaft down for now see if that changes things

    Where can I get just simple flat pieces of wood? Would basic craft wood be ok for beginners? I bought some basswood for hand carving but I was hoping there would be a cheaper alternative for Dremel carving. Thank you!

    • @MattCarves
      @MattCarves  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I just tend to carve wood I have lying around. That carving was just done on my carving table. Here in new zealand people sometimes put old tables on the street for free . Its really hard to say as every country is different. Try and get free wood first just for practicing on. I guess if you wanted to pay for wood - hardware shops, furniture makers may have spare wood - offcuts.

      @@MattCarvesoh great idea! There are always old shelves or broken furniture around. Even thrift store would be cheaper than the wood I thought I had to order online 😂😂

    Does it matter what type of pine? Anything specific?

    • @MattCarves

      Some pine has a lot of sap in it. I hear White pine is good to carve. I tend to just give woods a go and take it from there. Happy carving 🙂
