A micromotor will be more fitting for this type of work. It gives untroubled, smooth cutting/marking with long life. M'motors are great, heavy duty work horses. Kavo, Faro, Foredom, NSK are but inky few of these. They are used by dental technicians, jewellers engravers on professional basis. Variable speed 0-35000 rpm, with some even higher totque. gd luck.
I always see engravers holding it like a pencil. Do ya know anyone that grasps it in there fist an uses their thumb as a pivot like with a Dental handpiece? It certainly works well for going around corners cause You can steady your hand by putting your thumb down on the work and drawing it in an arch around with your thumb as a pivot. Do you know of any "cons" to this technique?
U need to hang yr dremel up u want the flex shaft as straight as u can get it and it’s easier putting a foot pedal on yr dremel as well much easier to use
I think I heard you say you were using a wood block (3.50) which are you using a wood block or aluminum? And does it make a difference? Doesn't the bit itself grind into the block?
Ive noticed it eating away at the aluminum block more, personally. Id say (my opinion) that it does no more harm than the metal I happen to be engraving. I consider both the block and the tip to be consumables, needing occasional replacement anyhow. Thats just my take.

Where do you get a block of aluminium?
I have scraps of stuff like that laying around. Any local fabrication or machine shop would have a bunch of it they may even let a person dig through.
What is the small block of aluminum for?
For straight lines. I use it and run the tip of the grinder along the side of it.
Interesting, I guess aluminum Is a softer metal so it won't wear on the bit.

Ive recently grabbed a dremel stylo+ and its a great little thing for this, and cheap as well. Ive pretty much gone to that alone.

Ive since gone to the smaller stylo and I like it alot. It has less power, but plenty for this type of work and very compact.
