After the engraving and cleaning out the script, it may be a good idea to lightly hand-sand the whole front frame area (it had a varnished finish) and reapply one coat of clear polyurethane varnish; the oil you applied will not penetrate a previously varnished surface. However, you have a good heart young man.
Good idea, definitely a good easy way to give a personalized gift for someone. Also really like how you are doing the engraving with the template carving the top layer into it then going back through and going deeper.
Just bought all the gear to get into engraving etc. Really glad I came across this video. I think what you did looks really smart ! Given me a boost to get going and experiment. Have to say the finished article looks super dooper !!! Will be watching more of your stuff. Cheers.
